TROYER, Cameron George February 3, 1932 - May 13, 2008 Cameron George Troyer, beloved husband of Amy, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 13, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Cameron was born in Binscarth, MB on February 3, 1932. Cameron grew up on the farm on the Assiniboine River in southwest Manitoba. He attended both Crescent Ridge and Binscarth grade schools. Upon graduating his initial aspiration was to follow in his father's footsteps, as a result he attended and received an agricultural diploma from the School of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. After returning to the family farm Cam realized his calling was engineering and he went on to study at the University of Manitoba in 1954. In 1958, Cam graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Cameron married Amy Zink of Angusville, MB in 1954 and the two of them moved from Winnipeg to Hamilton, ON where Cam took on his first engineering job with Proctor and Gamble. But his western roots were hard to shake and in 1959 he accepted a position with Sun Oil in Estevan, SK. Thus began his long career in the Western Canadian oil patch which included fourteen years with Sun Oil in Estevan and Calgary, and time with Koch and Brascan/Westmin. At Westmin, Cameron held several executive positions over his fourteen year career there. Upon leaving Westmin in 1990 he started up a small oil company with a few of his old friends called Greypower Resources, where he maintained many of his old relationships and connections from his thirty plus year career in the Calgary oil patch. Cameron was a long-time member of the Rotary Club, APEGGA and served on the board of directors of ARBI from 1991 to 2003. Cameron had political interests and volunteered at the inception of the Reform Party. Cameron and Amy have lived in Westgate Community in Calgary for forty-four years where they raised four children and actively participated in the Westgate Community Association. Cameron is survived by his loving wife, Amy of fifty-four years; sons James (Colleen) Troyer and John (Louise) Troyer; daughters, Jan and Susan (Roger) Wellmann; grandchildren, Tannis, Jordyn, Christine, James, Thomas, Sarah, Emily, Brock and Brody. As well as numerous cousins and extended family throughout Canada. He was predeceased by his parents Emery and Janet Troyer and grandson Samuel Michael Troyer. QUEENAN, Bernard. 1920-2008. Bernard Queenan died at his home on May 13 at the age of eighty-seven. He will be deeply missed by his companion Jana, his sisters Molly and Angela, and his nephews Gerard, Brian, Martyn and his niece Claire. He was born in Ballymote in Sligo, Ireland, educated in Scotland at St. Aloysius H.S., won high honours at Glasgow University in Modern Languages and for his graduate degree in psychology. He served in the British Army in India and rose to the rank of Major. AKINS, Timothy "Tim" March 23, 1945 - May 12, 2008 After a long, ferociously fought battle, Tim succumbed to kidney cancer on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 63 years of age. Tim leaves his wife, Carol; daughter Brenda (Todd) and son Bryan (Wanda); four sisters Terry, Susan, Joan and Cathy; three brothers Mike, Pat and Mark and their families as well as parents-in-law Clarence and Annie Hill. Big T will be remembered by Sofia and Guilianna and their parents, Ida and Frank Durante as well as Halle and her parents Lisa and Brad Jackson. Tim was predeceased by his parents, Bud and Mary Akins; brother Bill and nephew Kyle. Tim was a former member of Ironworkers Local 725 and a retired member of Local 720. He obtained a Ph.D. at UWO and went on to a long and varied career as an academic and entrepreneur. SHARP, Gertrude Evelyn 1910 - 2008 Died peacefully in her sleep on May 15, 2008 at the age of 97 years surrounded by her family, in her room at CareWest Royal Park. Gert was raised in Edmonton where she lived until graduation from the University of Alberta with a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics in 1932. After her marriage to W. Gray Sharp in 1936 she moved to Calgary where she lived a wonderful and full life. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with family and friends. Gert was beloved by all who knew her and known for her kindness, generosity, loving spirit and sense of humour. She had the gift of making everyone she knew feel special, especially her family, and will be sorely missed. She will be lovingly remembered by her son William Sharp and wife Jane LeBaron, her grandchildren, Andrew Sharp (Heather), Laura Sharp (Wayne Howse) and Ian Sharp, step-grandchildren Christopher, Sarah and Graham McCrimmon and her great-grandchildren Lulu, Gabriel, Liam and David. GAUTHIER, Evelyn Grace With great sadness the family of Grace Gauthier announce she passed away peacefully May 12, 2008. Grace was the daughter of Anna and Emanual Herman of Delia. She grew up on the farm and attended high school in Drumheller. Grace had many fond memories of farm life and then living in the dormitory to attend high school. She was a graduate of the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing in Edmonton and she treasured her affiliation there throughout her life. In 2007 Grace attended her sixtieth nursing reunion in Edmonton. She worked for a short time at the Colonel Belcher Veterans' Hospital prior to her marriage to Charles (Chuck) Gauthier in 1948. Grace was predeceased by Chuck in 1993. She lived most of her life in Calgary but was always interested in the world and enjoyed traveling to many places as far away as Thailand. Home, family and friends were of the utmost importance to Grace. She spent most of her final days with visitors in her home and on the phone. Grace truly appreciated each and every visitor and was sincerely touched by the attention paid to her. Those who knew her have said they were inspired by her courage, determination and positive outlook. Grace will always be missed by her children: Sharon Gauthier of Calgary and Dr. Charles Gauthier (Karen Thomas) of Banff; her grandchildren Carissa (Schaane) Cameron of Tennessee, Lisa Wenger (Travis Lucier) of Airdrie and Kate Gauthier of Banff; her great-grandchildren Marquell, Hannah, Emma Joy, and Amaris Cameron; her brothers Albert (Anne) Herman and Don (Joan) Herman both of Drumheller, and many extended family and friends. The family wish to thank all those involved in Grace's care especially Dr. Michelle Deyholos, Dr. Ghatage of the Tom Baker Center, Dr. Chu at Evergreen Acupuncture, Dr. Christine Perkins and each of their staff members. Also a special thanks to Janice, Krystal and Michelle of the Palliative Home Care Team and everyone at Carewest Sarcee Hospice. Jorge Nogueira De Sousa July 14, 1938 - May 15, 2008 Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, on May 15, 2008, at the age of 69. Beloved husband of Antonia for 40 years. Loving father of Gisele and Faustino Sanchez and George Sousa. Adored Vovo of Isabella, Micaela and Nicholas. Jorge started his career in Portugal as a professional soccer player and continued that passion right up to his last days. Through his 22 years of service at the Hamilton YMCA, he developed many close friendships and inspired many to lead healthier lifestyles.
