HACKBORN, Kenneth Martin - Born January 30, 1933, passed away peacefully May 13, 2008 in his 76th year. Predeceased by wife Evelyn Hackborn (June 2007), son Ron Hackborn and stepsons Robert and Dennis Franklin. Survived by Wendy and Shaun Davis (Tanya, Stephen) of Calgary, Martin and Shelley Hackborn (Carly, Eric, Sarah, Darryl) of Cambridge, Jean Hackborn of Calgary, Stepdaughters Loretta “Lori” Hillis (Amanda, Michelle, Candice), Teresa Franklin (Aaron, Alyssa), Patti and Dan Roy (Joseph, André) and stepson Doug Franklin (Sarah, Alexandra) all of Cambridge and great grandfather to 6. Brother of Sylvia and Joe Miller of Burford and Beverly Atkinson of Brantford. Ken enjoyed making ice cream floats for his grandchildren. In his younger years he worked as a bartender at both the Royal and Iroquois Hotels. He was a dedicated employee often working 7 days a week at Canadian General Tower for over 40 years. He was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus and Navy Club where he enjoyed playing cards and crib. Ken loved to socialize and was often the life of the party. Ken also enjoyed hockey and golf in his retirement years and was very proud of his ‘Hole in One' Resting at CORBETT FUNERAL HOME, 95 Dundas Street, Cambridge where the family will receive friends on Tuesday May 20, 2008 from 2-4 pm. and 7-9 pm. Marjorie Elizabeth Balog of Cambridge, Ontario died on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at her residence, in her 80th year. Marjorie (Knisley), beloved wife of the late George Balog (1989). Dear mother of Karyn Henderson and her husband Rick of Grimsby, Gary Balog and his wife Patricia of Burlington, son-in-law John Miller and his wife Marylou of Kitchener. She was lovingly remembered by five grandchildren, Tara, Ryan, Peter, Matthew and Michael. Survived by three brothers, Bill Knisley (Irene) of Mansfield, Ont., Ron Knisley of Oakville, Norman Knisley (Marion) of Keswick, brother-in-law Allan McDougall (Lea) of Markdale and four sisters Helen Wilton of Durham, Isabel Woods of Forest, Adel Francis (Don) of Quebec, Marlyen Torrie (Arthur) of Prince Albert, Sask. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents William and Rita Knisley, daughter Pamela Miller, sister Thelma McDougall, sister-in-law Joyce Knisley, brothers-in-law Neil Wilton and Ben Woods. Marjorie had been a lifelong resident of the Cambridge area, an active member of Trillium United Church. She worked many years at Bell Canada, and later moved to CN Weber and retired from there. Funeral services were held at the Trillium United Church in Cambridge on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 11 am with Rev. Mark Rutledge officiating. Interment was in Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge. Marjorie was a source of encouragement to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by friends and family.

KISSEL, Michael - At Bluewater Health, Mitton Site, on Sunday, May 11, 2008, Michael died peacefully with family present at the age of 90. Beloved husband of Anne (Wogzyn). Loving father of Leslie Anne and her husband Charles, Raymond and his wife Cathy, and Gerald. Proud grandfather of James, Alexander and Catherine Anne. Michael was the son of Elia Kisil and Anna Madgiak and the brother of Jean, Joseph (predeceased), and Mary and was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After training as a machinist, Michael joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he served for four years during WWII in the North Atlantic on convoy duty and continued serving in the Reserves. He was granted his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Manitoba and completed additional studies in engineering at the University of Windsor. As a registered professional he worked for Imperial Oil in Regina, Sarnia and Fort McMurray. Michael was a dedicated member of St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was a supporter of a wide number of causes, a generous helper of those in need, an avid gardener, an accomplished woodworker and lover of pets. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Fr. Pauline Fidler, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 11, 2008, in her 87th year. Born in Hanover, daughter of the late Alexander and Barbara (Gross) Zimmer. Survived by her husband Harold Fidler, daughter Marilyn Bennett (Alf Poechman) of Hanover and son Ronald (Shirley) Fidler of Hanover, grandchildren Debora Bennett (Ed), Ron Bennett (Jill), Brenda Ortman (Murray), Nancy Reardon (Pat) and Ken Bennett (Lorrie), 12 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Margaret Kerr of Hanover, Joan Zimmer (Sam) of Quebec and brother Wally (Ella) Tibbo of Chesley. Predeceased by daughter Dianne, brothers John Zimmer, Ted Zimmer, Bob Zimmer and Doug Zimmer and stepmother Betty Zimmer. YARD, Sister Kathleen Mary (Sister Mary of the Rosary) - A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON, died in Pembroke, Ontario on the 14th day of May 2008 in the 78th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, nieces, Ethel Hynes, Ellen Kavenaugh, Rosalie Ledwell, other devoted nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Peter and Irene (Carew), brothers, Henry, Stephen and Arthur, sisters, Mary and Esther. Kathleen was born on November 1910, in St. John's, Nfld. She entered the Community on September 25th, 1930, pronouncing final vows on July 17th, 1936. Her ministry involved various duties, including, sacristy and food services, caring for residents at St. Patrick's Home, Ottawa, assignments at the Seminary, Ladner, B.C. and at Assumption Convent, Vanier, where she served for a total of thirty-four years. In prayerful acceptance and peace, she lived her final years at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Dorothy Cora Rain Dorothy Cora Rain of Riverview passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Moncton Hospital at the age of 87. Born in Saskatchewan, January 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Leila (Harmon) Riley. Dorothy was a homemaker spending her time caring for her family. A member of Lower Coverdale United Church, the Lower Coverdale U.C.W. and the Women's Institute. Dorothy was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Frank H. Tingley Chapter. An active member of her bridge club and belonged to the Parklanes Bowling League and Bridgedale Seniors Club. She is survived by her loving husband, Ed; two sons, Ronald (Sandra) and Larry (Bobbi) all of Riverview; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased her brother Ralph. Margaret E. Budd 1916 - 2008 It is with great sadness that we, the family of Margaret E. Donohue Budd, announce her passing at home on Thursday, May 15, 2008. Surrounded by her loving family, she went peacefully to her home with the lord. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Effie Mae (Dowd) Donohue. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Percy and by brother, Joseph; sister, Florence; brother, John; son-in-law, Harold Frankland; sister-in-law, Josephine and brothers-in-law, Laurier Savage and Walter Cassidy. She worked for many years in the shoe department of Eaton's Department Store. She was a member of St. Bernard's Parish, she was a volunteer and a member of the Saint John Ambulance. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family and travelling extensively throughout her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by daughters, Ann Frankland of Barrie, On and Joyce Caterini (Lorenzo) of Halifax, NS; and sons, Percy (Linda) of Toronto, ON and Ronald of British Columbia; sisters, Helen Donohue, Kathleen Savage and Edith Meredith all of Moncton; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren , nieces and nephews. Helen Beatrice (Stewart) Jarvis 1922 - 2008 Helen B. Jarvis, widow of the late Dr. Carl Jarvis D.V.M., of Riverview, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Collina, Kings Co., NB, March 21, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Beatrice (Coy) Stewart. Helen was a graduate of Sussex High School and the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing. She was a private nurse in Belleville and Guelph, On. and a Labour and Delivery nurse at the former Hotel Dieu Hospital in Chatham, NB, and the Moncton Hospital, retiring in 1982. She was a life member of the U.C.W. of St. Paul's United Church in Riverview, the Moncton Hospital Nurse's Alumnae and the Moncton Hospital Nurse's Health Care Auxiliary. She had been a volunteer at the Moncton Hospital, Red Cross, Canadian Blood Services and the Veteran's Outreach Program at the Canadian Legion Branch # 6 Moncton. She was a Past Matron of Prince Charles Chapter #27 O.E.S. Chatham, NB; and an affiliated member of Frank H. Tingley Chapter # 5 O.E.S. Moncton. She was an avid Bridge player. She is survived by daughters, Beverley Campbell (Barry) of Lower Newcastle, NB, and Lynne Mutch (Trueman) of Napanee, On; son, Stewart (Karen) of Courtice, On; five grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Carl Jarvis in January, 2000; sisters, Alice Robinson and Edna Powell; and by brothers, Earle, Gordon and Charles. LAHTI,Erkki 2008-05-16 Mr Erkki Jaakko Lahti, age 82 years passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at St. Joseph‘s Hospice. He was born in Ylivieska Finland on March 20 1926 where he worked on the family farm and operated an independent gravel truck service. He moved to Port Arthur with his wife Kerttu and Daughter Irma in 1957. He was a quiet, patient, husband, and father who was devoted to his family, always putting us first and giving us his best. He was talented in many areas always ready and able help, fix, and teach us. He taught his children and grandchildren, many skills that remain as a testament to his abilities. Dad built numerous homes that remain as a reminder of his handprint as we drive around Thunder Bay. He had working skills in numerous areas ranging from mechanics, bricklaying, and bush worker. But his trade which he most recently earned his living at, was Carpenter/Welder. He was a member of the Local 1669 Carpenters and Joiners Union for over 40 years and was a valued employee at many companies in the region, particularly at Thunder Bay Harbor Improvements for many years. Dad was also a long-time member of Hilldale Lutheran Church, previously the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church on Secord St. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Kerttu, 2 children Irma Nystrom (Bryan) and Markku (Tanis), 4 Grandchildren Matti, Mikko, Alyssa, and Hanna, Brother Matti (Ilona) and Sister Eila in Finland. He also has numerous nieces and nephews in Finland and Canada. Erkki is predeceased by his parents Hilma and Kustaa Lahti and his 2 brothers Viljo and Kustaa. Expressions of sympathy can be made as a donation to Hilldale Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice. Funeral services for the late Mr. Erkki Lahti will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 1:00pm. in Hilldale Lutheran Church, 321 Hilldale Rd, with Rev. Jari Lahtinen officiating. BARSTAD, Ronald Richard August 14, 1949 - May 8, 2008 Ron passed away peacefully on May 8, 2008 in Indonesia. He is survived by four daughters Michelle Barstad, Monica (Brad), Kendra (Kelly), and Deanna (Don), and eleven grandchildren; two sisters Helen (Jack) Talbot, and Elvina (Walter) Langhans; four brothers Gerald, Robert (Karen), Leonard (Shirley) and Gordon. Ron will also be missed by ex-wives Gwen and Linda, and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews in a large extended family. He will be mourned by many friends worldwide. He was predeceased by parents Elvin and Eva, and by six brothers Melvin, Clarence, Duane, Errol, Donald, and Fred. Ron spent most of his forty-three year working career in the oil patch in various jobs. Most recently he was employed by Baker Hughes in Indonesia. Ron enjoyed most sports, but especially golf, hockey, and rodeo. He spent his early years in Gleichen, AB, then lived and worked in many locations throughout North America, the United Kingdom, South America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. He enjoyed work and was always eager to socialize and was usually first to rise and last to sleep. BESSEY, Judith Lucille (Little) - Judith passed away Tuesday May 13th after a courageous battle with cancer. At only 56 years she was taken much too soon but she put a lot of love in her years and we all will have many happy memories. Survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Wayne, and treasured children Donna, Kim, Lisa McGreevy (Stephen), James Cook (Connie), of Hamilton, Carla Enman (Grant), Darren (Laurie-Ann), and so loved grandchildren Taylor, Brittany, Madison, Lawrence, Jennifer, Rebecca, MacKenzie, Brady, Justin and Bree-Anna. Daughter to Ted Little (Donna) and Gwenna Little of Ladysmith BC, Sister to John Little (April) of Squamish BC, Elaine Eddy (Frank) of Honeymoon Bay BC, Mark Little (Pat), and Ian Little (Corrine) of Quesnel BC, and brother-in-law Don Powell. Fern was born in Manitoba. She graduated from nursing school at St. Rose, MB and nursed in Calgary at the Holy Cross Hospital for seventeen years. Fern will be remembered for her kindness to others. KERCHER, Clara Marie Clara Marie Kercher, beloved wife of Bill, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 after struggling with the complications of diabetes for many years. Born July 31, 1931, the second daughter to Nora and Albert Smale, she spent most of her early years in Drumheller, AB. Clara met her husband, Bill, in Drumheller where they married in 1954, then moved to Calgary to raise four daughters. OLIVER, Penny Adele (Leckie) Penny Adele (Leckie) Oliver, loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend, passed away suddenly on May 11, 2008 at the age of 59. Penny was predeceased by her best friend and husband, Dale, her mother, Doris, and her sisters Janice and Lynne.
