Daughter of the late Alexis and of the late Leontine (née Lamarre) Coulombe. Wife of the late Donald Arthur Synder, predeceased in 2000. Loving mother of Marlene Snyder of Sudbury, Andrea Sandstrom (late William) of Painsville Ohio and Marica Bergman (Dennis) of Toronto. Dear sister Anselme “Sam“ Coulombe (late Germaine) of Sturgeon Falls, Hermance Lagacé (late Lorenzo) of St. Ulric and Noella Zatorscke (late Frank). Predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Jeanne Purcelle (late William), Antonio “Tony” (late Antoinette), Marie Rose Coulombe, Leopold (late Florence), Germaine Coulombe, Marie Anne Daoust (late Henri), Pierre (Fernande of Sudbury), Thérèse Poitras (late Rosario) and Robert (Isabelle of Fort Erie). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Quincy (Duann), Ben and by her great- grandchildren, Qimora and Xavier. The family expressed its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Pioneer Manor and Sudbury Regional Hospital (St-Joseph's Health Centre) for their compassionate care. The family will receive relatives and friends at the CO-OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd. E. EVANS, Audrey Kathleen (nee Innes) June 23, 1919 - May 7, 2008 Audrey Evans passed away May 7, 2008 at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 88. Audrey is survived by a son Donald Lloyd (Glenda); a daughter Noreen Kerr; four grandchildren Tara, Christopher (Julie), Danielle and Stephen; and two sisters Dorothy Knechtel of Calgary and Peggy Jones of Montreal, PQ. Audrey's teaching career was challenging and pleasurable, spent in Delia, Hanna, Didsbury and Calgary (Central Memorial and Henry Wise Wood). During these years many enjoyable hours were spent singing in choirs, as well as choir conducting. Experiences in Girl Guide leadership were most rewarding. Audrey's great pleasure was driving to the mountains - a secure retreat. She leaves these parting thoughts: "If life is worthwhile, just play the hand you've been dealt. There is nothing good or bad, but thinking that makes it so." At Audrey's request there will be no Funeral Service. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca . MEDLAR MacNUTT, Frances Patritia. Passed away peacefully at the Jewish General Hospital on May 5, 2008 in her ninety-first year, widow of Gerrard Ernest Macnutt. She will be remembered by her nieces and nephews of the Tait and Boultbee families. Frances lived to a grand old age leaving behind many friends in the Town of Mount Royal and the Royal Montreal Golf Club. Le Waldorf Residence was her home for the past several years, with many thanks to all the staff , nurses, and caregivers. Special thanks to Nancy Miller who brought a new meaning to caregiving. OBITUARY K. BARRY OLSEN 1935-2008 Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog Barry Olsen passed away peacefully at his home on May 4, 2008. His family and friends will miss him dearly but have wonderful memories of their times together. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 51 years Janet, his children Keith, David (Brenda), Jane (Mark), grandchildren Ryan, Jeffrey, Annie and sister-in-law Sheila (Carl). He was an accomplished musician, which was shared and enjoyed by everyone. He was well loved and respected by his colleagues in the shipping industry. In his 53 year career he worked his way from clerk at Robert Reford Company to president of Maersk Canada Inc. and remained chairman after retirement. He accepted the appointment of Honorary Consul General of Denmark and was knighted by Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark for his contributions toward trade relations between both countries. SCHOFIELD, Margaret On Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre in her 73rd year. After a brave battle with cancer fought with characteristic dignity and humour, she is finally reunited with her great love Moe Farlett. Predeceased by her parents Willow and John, she is survived by her sister Joan (Al) of New Brunswick and brother Gary of Ottawa and many nieces and nephews. "Maggie" was the beloved stepmother of Lyla Angelo (Bill) and adored "grandmother" to Amy and Joseph. Margaret attended Lisgar Collegiate and was a long-time employee of the British High Commission and IBM Canada. She was an avid skier and volunteer member of the ski patrol. After retiring from IBM, she volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society. In all walks of life, she made many dear friends. Margaret's family would like to thank the staff of the Ottawa General Hospital and the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre for their care and kindness to her and support of the family. van der ROSS, Levan James August 3, 1989 - May 7, 2008 Levan van der Ross passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the age of 18 years. He is survived by his loving mother Carol, father Bruce and younger brother Lyle and many relatives in South Africa and abroad. Levan was born in Cape Town, South Africa and moved with his family to Calgary, where he was well known as an avid athlete, student and friend to so many who respected and loved him. His sports endeavors were many such as his first love football, downhill mountain-biking, hockey, snowboarding and skateboarding. He was a perfectionist which helped him lead the Wildcats Football Team to Provincial Championship in 2006 and in high school he would go on to receive an "Outstanding Linebacker" Award at Central Memorial. To adults who knew Levan, he was known as the "nicest and most polite kid around" and to his friends, "he was the funniest guy we know". Kennedy, Ms. Julie 2008-05-09 Ms. Julie Kennedy, age 49 years of Taylor Dr., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Born in Port Arthur in 1959, she grew up in the city attending Lakeview High School after which, she joined the Armed Forces and travelled extensively throughout Canada, living in Ottawa and Dartmouth. Returning to Thunder Bay, she took a job driving school bus with Iron Range until she took a position driving rock truck for Lac Des Iles Mines. Working there was second nature for her and she, with the exception of her pink hardhat, fit in as one of the "guys". She never minced words and always spoke her mind. If something was bothering her, she would let you know. Julie would however, never hesitate to lend a helping hand and do anything she could for co-workers, family, and friends. When she wasn’t working, Julie enjoyed all the pleasures life had to offer, spending quality time with her many good friends especially "going for hot dogs" with her friend Paige. She was an avid reader and a very "crafty" person, making many things including dresses for her family and costumes for her grandchildren. Julie was very family oriented and loved spending time with them. To those who knew her she was "the rose between two thorns:". Julie had been actively involved in the community including her Sorority and serving as the C.O. of the Thunder Bay Police Youth Corps. Julie will be sadly missed and always remembered by her daughters: Connie Kennedy and Sara (Kyle) Viens; granddaughter Alexis; Grandma’s boy Aidan; siblings: Kathy Mayer, Diane (Stuart) Cuff, and Bruce (Maria) Mayer. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as her very close friend Carl and his family. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert Mayer in 2007 and Margaret Mayer in 2006. Funeral Services for the late Julie Kennedy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. CARPENTER, Major (ret) U. Craig Served his country in peace and war died May 8, 2008 in Ottawa. He is survived by Norah his loving wife of 57 years and three sons; Rodney and his wife Donna, Ottawa; Stephen and his wife Donna, Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario; Geoffrey and his wife Leslie, High River, Alberta. Loving grandfather of Ryan and Matthew; Caitlin and Griffin. Born in Toronto January 25, 1926. Attended Upper Canada College until moving to England. While attending boarding school in England he joined the RCAF and served with 6 Group Bomber Command during WWII. On release in Canada he returned to college prior to joining Caldwell Mills, Dominion Textiles as Manager of Public Relations. Returning to the RCAF in 1955 serving in Air Defence Command/NORAD and RCAF/DND Headquarters as a Public Relations Director. He also served with the Canadian Government Exhibition Commission and the Office of the Prime Minister. Craig Carpenter was predeceased by his father Major F.N. Carpenter, RCR and RWF and mother Ida May. Brothers: S/L Tom Carpenter RCAF; (Margy) Captain Alan Carpenter MC. RCA; (Pat) Major General Fred Carpenter AFC. CD. RCAF; (Jacquie); Lt. Jack Carpenter, Fleet Air Arm (KIA) sister Betty McVittie (formerly) RCAF WD (George) survived by one sister Barbara Kitson formerly (WRNS) (Peter) and brother Major David Carpenter (ret) REME (Ann). KENNEDY, Joseph Herbert - Peacefully at Georgetown Hospital on May 5th in his 99th year. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy Sheila Kennedy (nee Reeve) with whom he was married for 72 wonderful years, his son Brian Kennedy and wife Lynn, his daughter Janet Mavor and husband Leslie, his grandchildren Beth McLay (Rusty), Doug Kennedy (Sonja), Sarah Fraser (James), Christie Ferguson (Steve), and Robert Thomson, as well as his great grandchildren Katie, Joey, Livia, Liam, Ben, Abby, Cayden and Kailey. Joseph and his predeceased sisters Mildred and Gladys were born and raised in Wheatley, Ontario. Following several teaching positions, his graduation from the University of Western Ontario, a period as a school principal and many enjoyable years as a school inspector in the northern Ontario communities of Timmins, Kirkland Lake and Huntsville, he joined the Department of Education at Queen's Park. This was followed by another promotion to Regional Superintendent centered in North Bay where his responsibilities included all school systems from kindergarten to grade 13 in the North Eastern area of the Province. He was honoured to have a new school in Matheson named after him. He was also pleased to contribute in its formative years to Nipissing University in North Bay where he served on its first Board of Governors. In retirement years (38 of them) Joe and Peggy spent some of their best times at their cottage on Eagle Lake in the Sundridge and South River areas of Parry Sound District. He will be remembered for many things. . . his integrity, reliability, honesty, sense of humour, love of his family and more than anything else he was a gentleman. The family would like to thank Christoff and Ursula Sommer the owners of their excellent Mountainview Retirement Home in Georgetown and their fine staff members. The family also would like to acknowledge the compassion and care of Dr. J.P. Van Bendegem, nurse Lynn Harmer of Mountainview, the care givers in the palliative care unit at Georgetown Hospital as well as the nursing staff members of Compassionate Care. In 2001 Marijane completed her Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Toronto. She was very involved in her community, serving as a life guard and a swimming instructor at Welland swimming pools, Camp Brebeuf, the YMCA and won awards for her swimming accomplishments. Marijane enjoyed art and music, playing violin in the Niagara Youth Symphony, serving as the princess for the Croation Folk Arts Group Knez Branimir and won third place in Miss Teen, Toronto. June Baker (nee Fleming) is survived by husband Keith and sons Stephen (Aimee) of St. Catharines, Samuel of Orillia and step daughter Kimberly (Janice) of Hamilton. She is survived by her parents Eveline and George Fleming of Elmvale and brother Robert (Joy Lyne) of Toronto. June was an active member of the Westmount United Church, Orillia, a long time supply teacher with the Simcoe County Public Schools, a member of the Sunshine Rug Hookers, she loved art, scrapbooking, card making, stamping and photography. June was a loving person who generously gave of herself to all and we were truly blessed to have known her. SZLEK, Stanley (Stanislaw) (1920-2008) - Passed away peacefully on May 7th in his eighty-eighth year at the Brantford General Hospital. Beloved husband of Weronika (Kus) for over 66 years. Loving father of Stefania Szlek Miller (Jack Evans), Zigman Szlek (Vicki) and John Szlek (Cheryl). Will be sadly missed by grandchildren, Julian, Shannah, Tara, Roman, and Angela, and by great grandchildren, Jacob and Leigha. Remembered fondly by Karl and Josephine Kus and their family in Canada. He is predeceased by his parents, Jan and Marianna (Michalec) and his brother, Stefan, and is survived by his sisters, Anna Kowalska and Zofia Matusik in Poland. Stanley was born on September 9, 1920 in Zieblice, Poland. During the Second World War, Stanley and Weronika were forced labourers in German-occupied territories. They were in refugee camps in Southern Germany after the war where they buried their son, Waldemar Szlek, on November 12, 1946. They emigrated to Canada in 1951, and became proud citizens. Stanley for many years worked full-time in factories, including Massey Ferguson, while running a very successful farm operation near Mount Pleasant. Stanley was an extremely hard- working man who was very devoted to his loving wife and family. He will be deeply missed. Family and friends will be received at the THORPE BROTHERS' FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 96 West Street, on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 2 to 3 pm.
