Hone-Empain, Geneviève 1909 - 2008 Les familles Hone et Empain ont le regret de vous annoncer le décès de Geneviève Hone, épouse de feu du Baron Louis Empain, survenu le 21 février à Bruxelles. Fille de Jules Hone et de Gabrielle Gérin–Lajoie de Montréal, elle laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs Pascale Hone et Monique Hone-Carrier, ses enfants Michel (décédé), Claude, Monique et Luc, ses petits-enfants Joanna, Isabelle et Nathalie et ses trois arrière-petits-enfants ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces. Femme de caractère et de sourire, elle vécut auprès de son mari Louis des années intenses tant à travers leurs oeuvres caritatives qu'au niveau des arts et de la spiritualité. LONDON, JOHN MERRILL - John M. London, husband of Joyce (Rhan) London of Grand Bay-Westfield passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2008 surrounded by his family. Born 1943 in Saint John to the late Harry and Myla (Shanks) London. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; he loved spending time with his family and friends. John was a Sheet Metal Worker and worked for Fundy Ventilation and First Choice; John also belonged to the Sheet Metal and Roofers Worker Union Local 437. Besides his wife Joyce, he is survived by sons, Charles (Terrie) of Quispamsis, John of Nerepis; daughters, Cheryl and Sandy, both of Virginia and April of Nerepis; grandchildren Branden, Madison, Shena, Brittany, David, Shelby, Alexander and Aiden and many friends. LEAVER, DEBORAH ANN - Deborah (Debbie) Leaver of Saint John, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 3rd, 2008. Born in Halifax on Sept. 9th, 1923, Debbie was married to the late Sam Leaver and was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Harry, George, Charlie, and Bill of NS and sister, Muriel of NS. Debbie was a generous lady and caring, compassionate mother and is survived by two sons, John Leaver (Sharon) of Brantford, ON and Carter Leaver of Saint John; her daughter, Trisha Leaver (Carl) of Riverview, beloved sister, Peg Sidney of Halifax; two grandchildren, Heather and Duane Leaver of Saint John, NB; as well as many nieces and nephews. Debbie was a Canada Service Veteran and served with the Canadian Women's Army Corps overseas during WWII in England, Holland, Germany and France. She was a Commissionaire at Saint John Nurses' Residence and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Women's Auxiliary-Sussex branch. Throughout her life she enjoyed making crafts, sewing, reading, loving her family and making sure her pets were well cared for. She was cherished by her family and will be dearly missed. McKINLEY, Manon (nee Bastarache) After a courageous battle with cancer, Manon at the age of 38, died peacefully at the Hospice at May Court on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. RUBIN, Leona Ella (nee Goodfellow) 1918-2008 Leona Rubin, loving wife, proud mother and grandmother passed away peacefully close to her 90th birthday on March 26th. Leona was born in Vars, Ontario to parents Robert John and Ella May Goodfellow on April 13, 1918. Leona attended Navan High School and received her nurses training at Salvation Army Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario. Leona married John Alfred Rubin in 1953, they moved from Vancouver British Columbia with their three daughters to Portland OR in 1962. Leona worked as a nurse in both pediatrics and gerontology. She loved her nursing career and she loved working with children and the elderly. Mom enjoyed life, people, children and animals. She had a great sense of humour and fun. She also enjoyed reading, riding her bike and crocheting. Mom was a twin and very proud of being a twin, she was family oriented and she always mentioned her twin sister Betty when she talked about her family. Mom was a member of St David's of Wales Episcopal Church in Portland, she served on the vestry, was a member of both the Daughter's of St. David's and St. Margaret's Guild. Mom was preceded in death by her five sisters and three brothers. Mom is survived by her husband of 55 years John and her daughters, Janice Rubin of Eugene OR, Barbara Scalise (Steve) of Westerville Ohio, Sally Sayler of Portland OR and her three grandchildren, Michael Scalise, Amanda Scalise and Audrey Sayler and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 pm Sunday April 13th, at St. David's of Wales Episcopal Church 2800 S.E. BELL, Neil Donald January 9, 1938 - April 3, 2008 Neil Bell, beloved husband of Rena Bell of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the age of 70 years. Neil was born in Calgary and married Rena Grose on August 27, 1960. His career as a Peace Officer for Alberta Corrections provided him with many opportunities in Southern Alberta. He had a passion for Life and always showed it with his smile and attitude. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and was known as "Uncle Neil" to many. Besides Rena, his loving wife, Neil is remembered by his two sons Brian (Sharmaine) and Dale; grandchildren Brady and Amy; sister Doreen (Howard), three brothers Ralph (Betty-Ann), Eric (Joyce) and Percy (Ellie); as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. HAMM, Kurt (Sr.) - March 2, 1921-April 3, 2008 - Peacefully slipped into Glory at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Thursday, April 3, 2008, as his Lord and Saviour called him home. Beloved husband and best friend of Renate for nearly 60 years. In particular he often reminisced about the freedom he enjoyed in Canada and as a result, later in life, became a volunteer at Niagara Correctional Centre where he visited and encouraged inmates. MICHAEL J. SUMMERFIELD - 1964-2008 - Passed away suddenly, in Kitchener, on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, after a lifetime illness. RYCKMAN, Robert Maxwell - of St. Thomas, passed away on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital , in his 68th year. Beloved son of the late Dr. Maxwell and Helen (Charlton) Ryckman. Dear brother of Anne Marie and husband William Burton of North Bay and James Ryckman of Belle River. Dear uncle of Geoffrey Burton and his wife Estelle (Gevers), Mary Beth Burton, Ginny Ryckman and husband Cory, Lynne Ryckman and husband Glenn MacKinnon. Also survived by five beautiful great-nieces whom he adored and by Ross and Sue Moore, whose life long friendship and devotion in his time of need meant everything to Bob in his final days. (The family is truly grateful for you friendship.) Robert was born in St. Thomas on August 26th, 1940. He was a retired teacher and worked in North Bay, Hamilton and was the Director of Education at the University of Toronto. He also did supply teaching for the Thames Valley Board. Bob was a Mason, a member of the Hi-Ro Shrine Club Clown Unit, former member of the Rotary Club and was a member of Trinity Anglican Church. A Public memorial service will be held at WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. Cremation has taken place, with private interment of the ashes in Elmdale Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation. HOUSE, Daphne Joan (nee Clements) - passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital Thursday, April 3, 2008, with her family by her side. Daphne was the beloved wife of 52 years to Victor Cyril House (deceased December 8, 1997), dear mother to Pamela (Gerald) House of Niagara Falls, Penelope (William) Obee of Minden, dear grandmother to Terri-Lynne, Robyn, Kristen, Janna, Hunter and Meaghan, cherished great-grandmother to Kyla, Riley, Aidan, Quinn, Terra, Zachary, Maya, Avery-Wilder and Ethan. Daphne was an extraordinary humanitarian and long- standing member of and contributor to St. Martin's Church for which she was awarded the Order of Niagara. More recently, Daphne was a member of Christ Church. Daphne's love of living and her family and friends was exemplified by her exceptional thoughtfulness and ability to provide comfort to those who needed her wonderful compassion and guidance. She was a loyal friend and true confidante to many and a woman whose rapport with children was remarkable. Daphne chose to live her life in a way that demonstrated her greatest joy - the giving of love everyday. Mom, Nanna, Grandma and G.G., we wanted you to live forever but your health wouldn't allow that. You are immortal in our hearts and minds.
