LONGCROFT, Wendy Gay (nee Selwyn) Wendy passed away on March 23, 2008 after a courageous fourteen year battle with breast cancer. Wendy was born in Peshwar, Pakistan on January 16, 1939 and moved to England in 1946, where she met and married Peter. They immigrated to Canada with their children in 1975, living first in Calgary, Alberta and then Sidney, British Columbia. Wendy is survived and will be forever missed by Peter, her devoted husband of forty-seven years, her son David (and his wife Carrie and their children, Jonathan and Claire), and her daughter Amanda (and her husband Robert Harris and their children, Bryn and Aidan). She is also survived by her brother Jeremy Selwyn and her half-siblings Michael Selwyn and Christina Selwyn. Wendy's love for life was only surpassed by her love for her family. None of us could have had a better caregiver, nurturer, friend or deckhand. She took on the challenge of her disease with her typical selflessness and volunteered for many years at the Victoria Cancer Lodge, caring for others in the face of her own illness. In the last few years of her life, she discovered the excitement of dragon boat racing and found great joy in the camaraderie she shared with her fellow breast cancer survivors on The Island Breast Strokers paddling crew, taking the gold at the world championships in Singapore two years ago. Being on the water was nothing new for Wendy. She had spent many boating holidays with Peter and was looking forward to spending more time with their many friends from the Sidney-North Saanich Yacht Club. We would sincerely like to thank Dr. Ewen Cadger, Dr. Sharon Allen, Dr. Jim Wilde and the team of caregivers at both the Victoria Hospice and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. A private ceremony for the family will be held at this time, with a memorial party to follow later this summer, where we hope that her friends will gather and tip their glasses in honour of a fine lady. ROCK, Ted A. (Teddy) December 6, 1953 - March 30, 2008 Sadly, Teddy passed away at the age of 54 years. He is survived by his sister Lynn Rock (Lee Nilson) of Canmore, AB and will be fondly remembered by his sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, particularly his long-time friend, Alec McQuarrie. Teddy was predeceased by his parents, Ted and Jean and recently by his uncle Billy Warwick and aunt Millie McAuley. He worked all of his career in Sales & Service, with the Entertainment Industry being his favorite. Teddy had a tremendous gift of wit that could bring a smile or laughter to everyone he touched. KURTZ, Mathias (Matt) Anthony December 23, 1916 - April 2, 2008 Mathias Anthony (Matt) Kurtz, beloved father of Linda Kurtz of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Matt was born on December 23, 1916 in Burdett, AB. He farmed on the family homestead in the Burdett area. In 1940, Matt moved to Calgary and soon became employed with the CPR at the Palliser Hotel. He held several positions with the company and eventually retired in 1982 as Controller. Matt married Kay Stuber in 1948, who predeceased him in 1985. Matt was a member of the Stampede City Chorus in Calgary and the Desert Aires Barbershop Chorus in Phoenix, AZ. He also enjoyed gardening, especially producing tomatoes. Besides his loving daughter Linda, Matt is also survived by his sister, Sister Theresa Kurtz of Antigonish, NS; his dear friend Lorraine Egglestone of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and Kay's family. Besides his wife, Matt was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. Suzanne Allain 1920 - 2008 Suzanne Allain, 88, of Manoir St-Jean Baptiste, Bouctouche has passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday April 2nd, 2008 at the Manoir St-Jean Baptiste, Bouctouche. She was married to the late Ernest Allain (1976). Born in Bouctouche on March 27th, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Livail and the late Emilienne (Bastarache) Caissie. Suzanne is survived by two daughters, Rose-Mai Martin (Neldé) of Bouctouche, Brenda Cormier (Ronnie) of Saint-Antoine; one son, Désiré (Noreen) of Saint-Louis de Kent; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a special nephew, Alcide Duplessis (Alfreda) of Bouctouche; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two sisters, Melessie and Zélia; and two brothers, Lionel and Régis. TORTOSA, Juan (John) - Suddenly in Almeria, Spain, on March 26, 2008, a week after the death of his beloved wife Josefina Tortosa of nearly 60 years, Juan Tortosa, in his 88th year. Dear father of Delio Tortosa and Mary Tortosa, and beloved grandpa to Shannon Stevenson. Juan will be greatly missed by his family in Canada and his extended family in Spain, including many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Manuel (Dolores), Eulogio (Angelina) and Carmelo of Spain, and son- in-law Kevin Stevenson. Also survived by his brother Julian (Delia) of Spain. Juan and Josefina lived on Franklin Street in Sault Ste. Marie for many years. For the past 23 years, they lived primarily in the village of Enix near the city of Almeria on the southeastern coast of Spain where both were born and raised. Glendon Garth"Glen" McNaught of Cobalt died peacefully, with his loving family at his side, on March 28, 2008, at the Temiskaming Hospital. He was 73. He was born in Haileybury on September 18, 1934 to Robert Stanley McNaught and Iza Lillian Beatty. He resided in Haileybury until 1963 when he moved to Cobalt. Mr. McNaught had worked at Agnico Eagle Mine for 21 years in the shop until the closing of the mine. He was an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 44 Cobalt and was active in the community as a member of the Golden Age Club and Past President of the Cobalt Kiwanis Club. He had also been the Chairman of the Easter Seals Campaign. Mr. McNaught loved watching wrestling and was known as "The Lounge Chair Wrestler." His family will remember him as an outspoken man with a very big heart. Mr. McNaught was predeceased by his parents; and siblings Gertrude, Bernice, Lenard, Winona "Tootsie," Robert "Bert," Lorraine, Norman, Thelda, Gwynneth, Roland and Walter. He is survived by his loving wife Colleen (nee Riley) whom he married on September 7, 1963. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Jennifer (and her husband Mark) Ziller and their children Catherine and Derek; sister Carol (and her husband John) Cherwick; sisters-in-law Genevieve Parcher and Georgina McNaught; and will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews whom he was proud to have call him uncle. Funeral services will be held at the Haileybury and District Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. Pastor Fred Knutson officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Cobalt Veterans Cemetery. TREMBLAY, Maurice 2008-04-04 It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of Maurice Richard "Moe" Tremblay at the age of seventy-seven, on Thursday, April 3rd, 2008. He died peacefully in his sleep on a warm and sunny morning, with family by his side. Moe was born in Hearst, Ontario on February 18, 1931. He was raised in Geraldton where he worked in the local gold mines to finance his post-secondary education. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa and completed his Bachelor of Education at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. He always spoke fondly of those years, especially at St. F. X. where he enjoyed playing hockey for the X-men. In later years, he completed his Masters of Education through the University of Ottawa. He began his teaching career in Brandon, Manitoba in 1954, and later accepted a position with Fort William Collegiate Institute. At F.W.C.I., he taught numerous subjects, provided guidance counseling and coached various sports for thirteen years. In 1969, he accepted a position as Guidance Consultant/Supervisory Officer with the Ministry of Education, which he held until his semi-retirement in 1989. Moe had many loves in his life, especially his family and entertaining his grandchildren and often spoke of the importance of family in our lives. He was an avid golfer, enjoying many rounds of golf with his sons, grandsons and friends. He enjoyed curling most of his life, at the Fort William Curling Club, with the Take it Easy League, in a Teacher‘s League he helped organize, and in many regional ’spiels‘. Moe also liked watching sports, mostly his children and grandchildren playing hockey, baseball, soccer, cycling, running track or whatever they were involved with. He also enjoyed attending many of the Brier Curling Championships. Blessed with an outgoing personality, Moe was an excellent public speaker with a great sense of humour, which entertained us on many occasions. He had a wonderful ability to make friends and be at ease with any company or in any situation. Moe is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Beti, and their children: Gerard, Yvonne, Paul (Anneli), Michelle, Victor (Joanne) and Richard. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Garret, Alison and Stephanie; Lauren and Carly; Erik and Michael. He was the last of his birth family, predeceased by his: parents Yvonne and Emile; brothers Herman, Roddy and Gilbert (Pee Wee) and sister Lillian. To celebrate the life of Maurice Tremblay, a Funeral Mass will be held at 12:10 P.M. on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at St. Agnes R.C. Church, 1019 Brown Street, celebrated by Fr. James Panikulam. Interment of Ashes will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. An evening gathering will be held on Monday, April 7th from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7:00 P.M. in the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James. Family and friends are invited to share their words of comfort and remembrance at that time. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer‘s Society of Thunder Bay, the Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. We thank all who helped with Dad‘s health care in the final months, especially the staff in the Hummingbird Wing at Pinewood Court. A good man, a good husband, a good father, a great friend. Thank you, Dad. We love you and will miss you.

COOK, Wilma Florence - The former Wilma Thompson passed away peacefully at Lee Manor in Owen Sound on Tuesday April 1, 2008 in her 101st year. Born in Euphrasia Township, Wilma was a daughter of the late Wesley and Catherine (née McKenzie) Thompson. She was predeceased in 1977 by her husband Danard Alexander Cook of Meaford and formerly of Rocklyn. She will be remembered as the loving mother of Keith Cook (Sheila) of Brantford, Douglas Cook (Pat) of Collingwood, and Sandra McDougall (Tom) of RR 5 Owen Sound. Sadly missed Grandma of six and great-grandmother of eleven. Predeceased by an infant son Gerald, and by a sister, Jean Clugston.
