Loving father of Shirley Artinian and her husband Harry and Patricia Mac Lean and her husband Sterling both of St. Catharines. Dear grandfather of 4, great grandfather of 5 and great great grandfather of 2. Survived by his sisters, Ann, Mary and Ruby. Predeceased by his parents Doris and John Lysick and his brother Fred Lysick. Longtime employee of General Motors, Michael retired in 1974. PETERS, John - Passed away in the presence of his family on March 30, 2008. Born June 27, 1929 in Marienthal, Russia to Maria (1937) and Heinrich (1955) Peters. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (1997). Surviving are his children Henry (Kathy) of Stoney Creek and Art (Carol), Helmut (Barb), Willy (Sheila), Harold (Penny) all of St. Catharines/Niagara. Grandfather of Chris, Lauren, Christie, Collin, Kevan, Heather, Marcie, Michelle and Kelly. Great Opa to Riley. Also survived by siblings, Maria (Henry 2007) Heidebrecht, Nick (Anna) Tessman and Lydia (John) Penner all of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was predeceased by a brother Heinrich (1944) and stepmother Anna (1995). John's working years were spent at Sheldon Plumbing and Heating. In his retirement years John enjoyed his family, traveling and tending to his garden. TINKER, Nell V. - Suddenly on April 1, 2008 at The Wexford in Toronto. Predeceased by her loving husband of more than 60 years, Gordon. Fondly remembered by son Art (Linda) of North Vancouver; daughter Susan (Rick Scott) of Ajax; grandchildren Gillian Burnett; Adam, Kevin and Adrian Scott; Geoff Tinker and Matthew Hryciw; six great-grandchildren; brother Arnold Budd; brother-in-law Harold of Ottawa and sisters-in-law Sylvia Slemmestad and Dorothy Barnett of the GTA. Born in St. Catharines on May 23, 1915, Nell graduated from Normal School in Hamilton and went on to teach at Edith Cavell Elementary School in St. Catharines before volunteering to serve with the Canadian Red Cross in London during WW II. A committed and selfless volunteer until the age of 90, Nell was active in service to St. Jude's Anglican Church, the Canadian Red Cross, Bermondsey School, Centennial Hospital and The Wexford and sang in the choirs of St. George's in St. Catharines and St. Jude's (Wexford). She will be missed by many whose lives she touched. EVANS, David Richard January 4, 1915 - March 28, 2008 David Evans, beloved husband of Betty, passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital on Friday, March 28, 2008, surrounded by his family. Dave will be lovingly remembered by Betty, his wife of fifty-seven years, his daughter Gail, her husband Chris Mothersele, their children Shawn and Sarah, and his son Dr. Wayne Evans, wife Maggie, their sons Arthur and Matthew, as well as many other family members. He was predeceased by his brother Glyn and his sisters Eluned and Gladys. Dave was born in Provost, AB, brought up in nearby farming district of Edgerton, AB and graduated from Vermilion College of Agriculture. He moved to Britain in 1938, and built Hawker Hurricane fighter planes, in London, which was a reserved occupation during early WWII. He returned to Canada in 1940 and continued work in the aircraft construction industry with Vickers and Boeing, prior to joining the RCAF, where he immediately became an aircraft inspector. His interest in mechanics continued throughout his life as he tinkered with engines of many types. After the war, he returned to Alberta and worked for the Alberta Seed Growers and met the love of his life, Betty, in Edmonton. Dave was appointed Superintendent of Operations in the Peace River Area for the Seed Growers. He and Betty moved to Peace River after they were married in 1950. Dave, Betty and children moved to Edmonton, prior to his transfer to Calgary with the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1960. Always interested in learning, Dave worked towards his RIA designation in Accounting, which led him to a new career path with the Federal Government until he retired in 1975. He continued his interest in the financial world and participated actively in financial markets well into his retirement. He always loved the outdoors, was involved in many sports including hiking, camping, skiing, curling, swimming and golfing. He was also an avid bridge player and voracious reader. Other favourite activities were square dancing with the Gadabouts and dancing with the Gliders at Confederation Park Seniors Centre and activities with the Second Sixties and the Welsh Society. Dave and Betty travelled extensively to New Zealand and Australia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, in addition to many trips to Britain and throughout North America, spending time with many old and new friends. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Northmount Baptist Church, 451 Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary. His family would like to thank the staff at the Colonel Belcher Care Centre and Foothills Hospital for the care and attention Dave received. RAMEY, Peter Marcellus - Left this world peacefully on March 31, 2008 at the PRHC Palliative Care Unit, aged 78 years. Peter was born January 18, 1930 in Cobalt, Ontario. Loving husband of Margaret (Friesen) for 58 years. Devoted father to Kathleen Ramey-Hoy (Alan), David (Rosemary) and Susan. Proud “Gramps“ to Matthew and Daniel Hoy, Peter, Elizabeth and Lauren Ramey. Lovingly remembered by sisters Mary Ramey of Toronto, Joan Bouchard of London, Monica Evelegh of Dundas, and brother Noel Ramey of New Liskeard. Peter is predeceased by his parents, Kathryn (Kelter) and Harry Ramey, two brothers, Pilot Officer Lyman Ramey, and John Ramey. Peter was proud to say that he was from Cobalt, the famous mining town, and enjoyed his youth there. He eventually worked for Mutual Life Assurance Company, and retired from that Company after a very successful 45- year career. Peter was Branch Secretary of the Peterborough Mutual Life office, and later chose to become an Agent. He finished his career with Mutual as one of their top agents. He cared deeply for his many clients, and always looked to their best interests. Peter had many personal interests, but his passion was politics. He was a lifelong Liberal and was very active in local campaigns throughout his life in Peterborough. Peter was also active with many local groups and associations for which he volunteered his time and talents. Peter will be remembered by his distinguished and gentle manner, and his great sense of humour. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 859 Barnardo Avenue, Peterborough on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 11 a.m. Those who wish to express their condolences but are unable to attend the mass are welcome to meet with the family during the hour before the service at the church. OBITUARY DR. MICHAEL J. CRIPTON 1934-2008Dr. Michael John Cripton seventy-three, died at ProTem Health Services, Gorge Rd. Moncton on March 27, 2008. Born in Montreal he was the son of the late John and Veronika (Tkachuk) Cripton. Dr. Cripton's first passion was in helping others. This ability first came to the fore when - as a boy of nine - he was placed in the Weredale boy's home of Montreal after his father (a Ukrainian-immigrant labourer) died and his family dissolved. He became a central part of the school and he was placed in a supervisory role at a young age. He often referred to the experiences and struggles that he had with the younger children (and children his own age and older) at Weredale at stages such as bedtime and lights out. His own children benefited from this wisdom at bedtimes! He clearly experienced the first pulls towards his lifelong passions of mentorship, leadership and volunteerism at Weredale. He remained involved at Weredale as a resident and councilor until his graduation from Dental School at McGill in 1957. He went on to practice general dentistry in Fredericton where he met his wife Nancy. After their marriage he returned to Montreal to study Orthodontics and then he moved to Moncton in 1961, becoming the second Orthodontist in the province of NB at that time. He was a passionate volunteer in his chosen profession of dentistry, where he held many professional, administrative and leadership roles in national and international professional organizations and governing bodies. He served as President of the Canadian and New Brunswick Dental Associations, President of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists and President of the Royal College of Dentistry of Canada. He was also active in international dental organizations including acting as President of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, delegate to Federation Dental International meetings and he chaired the Atlantic section of the American Academy of Dentists. Not surprisingly, one of the skills he was proudest of was his ability to run effective meetings! This was a reflection of his desire to accomplish all that could be accomplished in whatever he did. No task was too daunting for him whether professional or personal and this was the spirit he brought to all of his work. These many organizations and their memberships, and all the people that worked with him benefited from this spirit and his ability to inject it into his leadership roles. Mike was equally passionate about volunteering, helping and leading in civic duty and community service. He served as President of the Moncton Boys Club, Chairman of the National council of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and he was active in fundraising for these organizations. He was a fundraiser for the Easter Seal Campaign, President of the Moncton Rotary club (and had perfect attendance there for 43 years), a District Governor of Rotary and a Provincial President of the McGill University Alumni Association. He loved hockey and served on the Executive Committee of the New Brunswick Hawks. He was a bilingual Councilor at Large of the Moncton City Council from 1970 to 1974 and later served as chair of the 8000 seat Moncton Coliseum Commission. He was active in local business as well co-founding C103 FM in 1988. His contributions have been recognized by many awards such as the top Pierre Fauchard Academy award, and Distinguished service awards from the Canadian Dental and Orthodontic Associations. He was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977 and the Builder of Youth award from the Moncton Boys and Girls Club. His greatest enjoyment and likely what he considered to be the greatest of these many honors he enjoyed until the time of his death, being "Boppy" to his seven grand children. He is survived by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Nancy (Green) Cripton; son Michael, Halifax; daughter Mary, Halifax; son Peter (Cara Inglis) Vancouver; son David (Nadia Jenefsky) New York; and son-in-law Harry Fitzgerald (Halifax); sister Jennie Larose and her husband Jacques of St. Jean de Richelieu, QC; and seven beloved grandchildren; Veronika and Max Fitzgerald; Hana, Cara, and Sasha Cripton-Inglis; Benjamin and Stella Cripton. He was predeceased by brothers Steve, George, and Billy. After her mother's death in Italy, Pamela came to Canada in 1952 to stay with her father Philip Gualtieri. Beloved wife of Geppino, dear mother of Italo and Joey. Predeceased by her loving children Rosie and Philip. Sister- in-law of Raffaele (Maria) Calabrese, Assunta and the late Mario Petrone, the late Michael and Giovanna Calabrese, Bina and the late Corrado Zumpano, Ida (Vince) Maletta and Bruno (Anna) DeMarchi. Pamela will be missed and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. PETRY, Rhea Irene - Peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site on Monday, March 31, 2008. The former Rhea Lefebvre age 87 years. Much beloved wife of 65 years of Theodore (Ted) Petry. Loved mother of Denis, Cantley, Quebec and Bob (Karen Wooding) of Cornwall. WILSON, Margaret Lois (Doyle) Our Mum, Gran, Auntie and friend, joined her daughter Corinne in heaven on March 29, 2008. Margaret was the first daughter of seven children born to Alice E. Matheson and William P. Doyle in Dodsland, SK, January 8, 1920. She grew up in Hoosier, SK and began her life away from the family farm in 1937 in Vancouver. In 1939 she moved to Calgary, met Mervin Wilson and married in 1943. Together they raised six children: Marilyn (Paul Dyck), Lenore (Peter Pfiffig), Corinne (Don Morris), Gerald, Sharlane Cressman (Clive Donaldson), and Laverne Cressman (Ruth Andres). They have welcomed and enjoyed thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In sixty-four years together she and Mervin were active community members, and travelled over 250,000 Km by motorhome, collecting family, friends and genealogy information which produced two books. Her legacy to us includes a strong faith, love of books, music, the value of hard work, enjoyment and care of family and home, the joy and purpose of simple living, and a door always open. A Service to celebrate her life will be held in Rosebud, the community she loved, on Thursday, April 3 at 12:00 p.m. in the Evangelical Covenant Church (west side).
