ROBB, William Alexander February 21, 1916 - March 28, 2008 William Alexander Robb, MD FRCS died at his home in Calgary on Friday, March 28, 2008 at the age of ninety-two. His remarkable life began on February 21, 1916 in Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan where he was born on the family farm. Dr. Robb received his MD degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1943 and was promptly shipped overseas and posted to Italy. Following WWII, he became a family doctor in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan where he met Barbara Green, a schoolteacher, whom he married in 1949. Dr. Robb returned to the University of Western Ontario and obtained his General Surgery Certification in 1953. After further subspecialty training at the Universities of McGill and Manitoba, he earned his Fellowship in Urology in 1954. The Robbs moved to Calgary in 1955 where Dr. Robb practiced Urology with Dr. Lorne Mitchell and Dr. Jack Noakes. Together they were recognized for their pioneering work in the "art of the practice of medicine" when special tribute was paid to them on Surgeon's Day in 2007 by the Department of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Dr. Robb retired at age seventy-seven and in his retirement he enjoyed his family and friends, his beautiful backyard, reading history, telling stories and traveling. He was an acclaimed medical practitioner whose generosity and kindness knew no bounds. Dr. Robb's wife, Barbara, predeceased him in 1986. He is survived by their four children Leslie (Gordon Ford), Angus (Susan Kilgour), Calvin (Jane Evenson), and Carrie (Ross Creelman); his six grandchildren Katie (Stephen Kotkas), Helen and David Ford and Hayley, Jackson and Harris Robb; sister-in-law Eileen Robb and many nieces and nephews around the world. He was predeceased by his sister Kay Bruce (Alan) and by his brother Jim. HUGHES, Ellen (Helen) Theresa (nee Collins). Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving daughters on March 27, 2008. Helen was predeceased by her cherished husband and best friend of sixty-three years, Albert. Helen was the much loved mother of Maureen (Gary), Mary (Rob), Ken (Arlene) and Terry (Ron) and beloved grandmother of Jennifer, Helena, Mike, Matt, Nick and Brad. She will be missed by her sister Peggy Chambers, her brother-in-law John Woods (Wini), Phyllis Roy, Ted Kiernan (Dorothy), Francis Chambers, Bette-Anne MacGregor, John Maxwell (Christine) as well as her many nieces and nephews and their families, and by her dear friends. Helen was predeceased by her mother Eliza Russell, her father Philip Collins, and her brothers and sisters Matt, Bonny, Tom, Martin, Ted, Nick, Bridge (Bridgette), Mary, Betty (Elizabeth), Alice, and Wini (Winifred). Helen moved to Vancouver, B.C. in early 2005 to be closer to her loving daughters Maureen, Mary and Terry who made sure that Mom's life was greatly enriched by the tender care and devotion they provided to her. Helen's outgoing nature together with her love of family, made her beloved by all who knew her. The family would like to express our gratitude to the many gifted and compassionate health care professionals who have been so kind and gentle with Mom throughout the years. SINCLAIR, John Edmund (October 15, 1919 - March 28, 2008). A Veteran of World War II, he served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) in North Africa and Italy. John played professional football with the RAF, the Liverpool and Newcastle Football clubs, as well as the Carsteel and Stelco Football clubs in Canada. John was an athlete, coached tennis, played golf and was an avid downhill skier. John was a member of the Camp Fortune Ski Patrol for several years. After leaving industry, he had a very rewarding career with the Federal Department of Indian and Northern Affairs organizing and implementing health safety programs in the Canadian National Parks for over 20 years. John will always be lovingly remembered by Prabha. He is survived by his children Kim, Rory and his 2 grandchildren. He will always be remembered by Roma as well as other relatives and friends. John will also be sadly missed by "Fifi" and his very special friends. The family would like to extend its gratitude to Dr. Santeri and the medical staff at the Ottawa General ICU and the emergency wing, as well as the staff and volunteers of St. Patrick's Home in Ottawa. LABARGE, Henry (Hank), Leonard 1922 - 2008 Born in Tweed, Ontario, son of the late Annie Mae (Kehoe) and Prosper LaBerge. Henry passed away peacefully in Ottawa, with family by his side on Sunday, March 30, 2008 in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Gertrude (Egan) for 52 years. Dearly loved and respected father to Joe (Cathy), Karen (Adrian) and Maurice (Francine). Loving grandpa to Michael, Christine and Kathleen. Predeceased by his youngest son Patrick James, and brothers Anthony, James, John and Clarence. Survived by his sisters Patricia Larkin (Oshawa) and Catherine McLean (Belleville), and sister-in-law Ann LaBerge (Tweed), and many nieces and nephews. Hank was a leading lineman for the Welland Hydro for 37 years. Friendly, outgoing and generous, Hank was admired and loved by all for his determined approach to life's challenges, his integrity and his loving loyalty and duty toward family, friends and neighbours. We will forever remember Hank's easy smile, his humourous storytelling and those Irish blue eyes. FAIRHURST, Francis James (1920 - 2008) WWII Veteran Peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on March 31, 2008 after a brief illness. Frank, a WWII veteran and 60+ year Lion's Club Member had a constant vigil of his family throughout his last days. Predeceased by his wife Norma. Survived by his 4 children Lynn (John Dunwoodie), Stephen (Pat Gladden), Judith (Randy Skelton), and Alan (Nina Picoulas). Il était le fils de feu Noël Lacroix et de feu Marie-Anne Larivière; époux bien-aimé pendant plusieurs années de Raymonde Joyce Baker. LABELLE, Alice (née Charron) 1907-2008 est décédée paisiblement au CLSD Montfort le 30 mars 2008, à l'âge de 101 ans. Elle était la fille de feu Omer Charron et de feu Élise Palardi et l'épouse bien-aimée de feu Yvon Labelle. Elle laisse dans le deuil son frère Raymond ainsi que 2 belles-soeurs: Adèla Charron et Émilienne Farley. Elle laisse aussi tout spécialement Richard et Marie Lanoue ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Elle fut prédécédée par 3 soeurs: Berthe, Eugénie et Antoinette ainsi que 3 frères: William, Alphège et Rolland. Il n'y aura pas de visites à la Maison Funéraire. Elle était membre des Filles d'Isabelle, cercle 1262 de Masham. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses fils: Claude (Lise) et Pierre; ses filles: Claudette, Pierrette et Josée (Lee); chère soeur de Jean (Jeannette), Gérald (Jeanine), André, Zéphirin, Rosario (Viviane) et Roméo (Guerty). Elle laisse également plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, 9 petits-enfants, 7 arrière-petits-enfants, neveux, nièces et filleul(e)s. DUKE, ARTHUR EDWARD - Arthur Edward Duke, husband of Edith (Hunter) Duke, of Mispec went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1933 in Saint John he was the son of the late William and Minnie (Currie) Duke. Art was a very active member of Fundamental Baptist Church, serving on several committees. In his younger years he was a member of the Reserve Army Signal Corp. Art worked for Irving Paper for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed motorcycles and spending time with his family. Besides his wife Edie of 47 years, he is survived by sons, Steven Duke and Scott Duke (Shelley Belyea) both of Mispec; sisters, Fern Fudge of Saint John, Fay Duke and Naomi Duke both of Kitchener, Ontario; several nieces and nephews and many friends. ROBERTSON, BARBARA MAE - The death of Barbara "Mae" Robertson of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Everett Robertson, occurred on Monday, March 31, 2008 at her residence. Born February 13, 1921 in Douglas, NB, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Greta (Hawkins) Stephens. Mother to daughters, Gail and her husband Gregory Hughes, and Deborah and her husband Owen Stilwell, both of Saint John; grandmother to Bradley, Kurtis, Martina and Thomas Hughes, Jeremy, Cassandra and Nicholas Stilwell. Predeceased by her sister, Ruth Keene; brothers, Irvine, Aleyne, Jack and Sandy Stephens. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mae worked for Red Rose Tea Co. in Saint John, retiring after 40 years having never missed a day of work. She was an active member of the Saint John Association of the Deaf where she enjoyed the many activities that took place, especially the monthly bingo games. Mae's hobbies included her love of cats and puzzles. STACKHOUSE - Gary Sterling Stackhouse of Saint John, husband of Nadine (Banks) Stackhouse, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 31, 2008 after a brave six month battle with cancer. Born at Saint John, he was a son of Ruth (Henderson) Stackhouse and the late Les Stackhouse, who predeceased him in May of 2007. Gary was a graduate of Saint John Vocational School, and worked at T. S. Simms for more than forty years before his retirement. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling, and spent many happy days at his camp in Musquash. In addition to his wife and to his mother, Gary is survived by his sons, Glen and Greg (Joanne), all of Saint John; his brother, Laurie, also of Saint John; grandchildren Brittany, Connor, Jonathan, and Julianne; and by several nieces and nephews. FERRISE, William "Bill" 2008-04-01 FERRISE It is with great sorrow that the family of Mr. William “Bill” Ferrise announce his sudden passing on March 30th, 2008 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, he had a career in Real Estate spanning approximately 45 years, including his own company Ferris Hacquoil Real Estate and Insurance, which was, because of his non-compromising high integrity and honesty, highly successful. Even after his retirement, he remained well known and highly respected by his peers. Bill was a longtime member of the Italian Hall, a founding member of the Thunder Bay Real Estate Board, and a member of the Amethyst Harbour Camper‘s Association. He had many accomplishments throughout his life but he thought his greatest achievement of all was his family, and his most cherished moments were the times he spent with them. Bill will be sadly missed by his loving wife, best friend and companion, Lee, married 62 years, his daughters Debbie Otway (Wayne) and Pam Colpitts (John), his sons Cameron Ferris, John Ferris (Debbie), and Ronne Ferris (Wendy), grandchildren Paul and Laura Otway, Daryl, Darcy, and Jennalee Colpitts, Megan and Becca Ferris, Nathan,Courtney and Lee Ferris. Also survived by his brother Ed Ferris (Anne). Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by his parents John and Rosa Ferrise, sister Anne, brother Frank, and sister-in-law Faye Ferris. Funeral Services for the late Bill Ferrise will be held on Thursday, April 3rd, 2008, where friends may gather at 9:30 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Alan Albao. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Bill‘s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

STRZESZEWSKI, Michael 2008-04-01 Mr. Michael Strzeszewski age 79 years, a resident of St. Joseph’s Care Group-Hospital passed away at his residence on Monday, March 31, 2008. Mike was born in Warsaw, Poland on June 19, 1928. He came to Canada in 1949, working in P.E.I. for DOMTAR. He was a member of the Polish Legion #219. He is survived by his friend Henry Derynck and many other friends who assisted Mike over the last 30 years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Hospital at a later date. Interment will be held in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21. N. Court Street. We would like to thank all of the Doctors and Nurses for the wonderful care given to Mike during his stay at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

YOUNG, Marian Elizabeth (nee Sleeth) - in her 81st year, at Marshall Gowland Manor, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31st, 2008. She is survived by her children Debbie and her husband Ronald Baines of Mooretown, Diane Young of London, Bill Young and his wife Bernadette of Ottawa, and Barb and her husband Ted Helbin of Sarnia. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, Tara Young, Christina, Laurie and Colleen Young, Jim Helbin, and Julie Everaert, and her great grandchildren Justin and Jenna Everaert. Marian was predeceased by her husband William “Lloyd“ Young in 1981. Marian was born and raised in Sarnia. She moved to Wilkesport where she ran a pick-your-own fruit farm with her husband Lloyd and raised her family. She was affectionately known as “the foreman of the berry patch“. She was actively involved in her community and developed a love for figure skating. She was a founding member of the Moore Figure Skating Club. Marian travelled extensively in Ontario and Michigan with figure skating, where she was a respected judge. In her later years, she returned to Sarnia where she volunteered with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and Sarnia V.I.P. Marian loved her family, enjoyed the company of her dear friends, and had a special affection for her pets. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and a celebration of Marian's life will be held on Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 am at High Park United Church on Brenchley St. in Sarnia. BIELEK, Lucienne - The family announces with sorrow the peaceful passing, at the Extendicare Timmins Residence, of Lucienne (Lucy) Bielek on Monday, March 31st in her 89th year. She was pre- deceased by her husband, Hank, in 1994. She is survived by her two sisters, Thérèse (Elwood) Farrell and Gail White, and her brother, André (Thérèse) Larivière. She is also survived by her children, Bob, Jim (Sharon) and Doug (Debbie). She will be missed by her grandchildren, Kim, Robert, Mike, Crystal, Chad and Matthew and great- grandchildren, Travis, Meghan and Bryanna as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be sorely missed by her lifetime friend, Lila Adams. Lucy was well known as the first French immersion program teacher in Timmins. GRISAK, Millicent "Rennie" (nee Rose). Peacefully in hospital in Perth, Ontario on Thursday, March 27, 2008 Millicent Renwick Grisak at the age of ninety-one years. Rennie was predeceased in 2003 by her loved husband, John Grisak; she will be sadly missed by her sisters Virginia (late Roy) Forbes of Calgary, Alberta and Jacqueline (late William) Asquith of Perth, Ontario, her nineteen nieces and nephews, brother-in-law William Heimbuch, family and friends. He arrived in Canada from Italy on May 22, 1954, in search of a better life for his family. From the basement of his home on St. Urbain Street, he founded Roma Cap Co. Inc. in 1962. He ran this company successfully for forty years, thanks to his hard work and the same intrinsic values he instilled in his children. Beloved husband for fifty-eight years of Ines Santucci. Dear father of Lucy (Tony Felicissimo), Marie (La Ricca), Tito (Anna Stella Passalalpi) and Linda (Frank Carfagnini) and the late Giuseppe. Cherished grandfather of Dino and Claudio La Ricca, David Felicissimo (Sandra Pisegna) and Ivana Felicissimo, Paolo and Sandra Carfagnini (John Markantonakis) and Joseph and Alessandro Passalalpi, great-grandfather of Victoria and Jonathan La Ricca and the newly born Olivia Markantonakis. Galliano dedicated his life to his family and treasured the frequent visits from his children to nightly telephone conversations with his grandchildren. Until his very last days in the hospital, he insisted that his children eat before he did, and even through pain, courageously managed to wink at his loved ones to assure them he was doing fine. His affection, love and wisdom will be greatly missed by everyone.
