WALTERS, Donald 2008-04-01 Born December 7, 1923 in Fort William, passed away unexpectedly in ICU on Sunday, March 30, 2008 due to fibrosis of the lungs. He is survived by sister Marguerite, brother-in-law Ivor and nephews Ian (Shelley) and Dan (Christine) and their families. Predeceased by mother Elsie, father Arthur and sister Audrey. He worked for Central News Day Co. office and for 27 years at Manitoba Pool Elevator. He was a life member of the Elks Club and also belonged to the Legion. Don’s (Sonny’s) passion was golf, playing it and watching it on TV. He also loved bowling, curling and horseshoes. He played cribbage on Tuesdays and Thursdays and darts on Thursday night, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved animals of all kinds and enjoyed watching them on TV. He loved his three great nieces and great nephew and enjoyed being with them at Shebandowan. We would like to give special thanks to Carl Anderson and Shirley and Gene Madeo for their friendship shown to Don over the years. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home, after which cremation will take place. A private family graveside service will take place later. We would especially like to thank the Doctors and Nurses in ICU that attended to him.

FERRISE, William "Bill" 2008-04-01 FERRISE It is with great sorrow that the family of Mr. William “Bill” Ferrise announce his sudden passing on March 30th, 2008 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, he had a career in Real Estate spanning approximately 45 years, including his own company Ferris Hacquoil Real Estate and Insurance, which was, because of his non-compromising high integrity and honesty, highly successful. Even after his retirement, he remained well known and highly respected by his peers. Bill was a longtime member of the Italian Hall, a founding member of the Thunder Bay Real Estate Board, and a member of the Amethyst Harbour Camper‘s Association. He had many accomplishments throughout his life but he thought his greatest achievement of all was his family, and his most cherished moments were the times he spent with them. Bill will be sadly missed by his loving wife, best friend and companion, Lee, married 62 years, his daughters Debbie Otway (Wayne) and Pam Colpitts (John), his sons Cameron Ferris, John Ferris (Debbie), and Ronne Ferris (Wendy), grandchildren Paul and Laura Otway, Daryl, Darcy, and Jennalee Colpitts, Megan and Becca Ferris, Nathan,Courtney and Lee Ferris. Also survived by his brother Ed Ferris (Anne). Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by his parents John and Rosa Ferrise, sister Anne, brother Frank, and sister-in-law Faye Ferris. Funeral Services for the late Bill Ferrise will be held on Thursday, April 3rd, 2008, where friends may gather at 9:30 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Alan Albao. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Bill‘s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Elle était la fille de feu monsieur Aurèle Gelly et de feu madame Graziella Leblond de Lévis, ainsi que la soeur de feu Charlotte (feu A. Martin) et de feu Colette. Une célébration de la parole aura lieu à la Maison Sainte-Marie-des-Anges 600, 60e Rue Est, Charlesbourg, le mercredi 2 avril à 19h. Le salon sera ouvert jusqu'à 21h et le lendemain de 9h à 10h. FAIRHURST, Francis James (1920 - 2008) WWII Veteran Peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on March 31, 2008 after a brief illness. Frank, a WWII veteran and 60+ year Lion's Club Member had a constant vigil of his family throughout his last days. Predeceased by his wife Norma. Survived by his 4 children Lynn (John Dunwoodie), Stephen (Pat Gladden), Judith (Randy Skelton), and Alan (Nina Picoulas). SINCLAIR, John Edmund (October 15, 1919 - March 28, 2008). A Veteran of World War II, he served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) in North Africa and Italy. John played professional football with the RAF, the Liverpool and Newcastle Football clubs, as well as the Carsteel and Stelco Football clubs in Canada. John was an athlete, coached tennis, played golf and was an avid downhill skier. John was a member of the Camp Fortune Ski Patrol for several years. After leaving industry, he had a very rewarding career with the Federal Department of Indian and Northern Affairs organizing and implementing health safety programs in the Canadian National Parks for over 20 years. John will always be lovingly remembered by Prabha. He is survived by his children Kim, Rory and his 2 grandchildren. He will always be remembered by Roma as well as other relatives and friends. John will also be sadly missed by "Fifi" and his very special friends. The family would like to extend its gratitude to Dr. Santeri and the medical staff at the Ottawa General ICU and the emergency wing, as well as the staff and volunteers of St. Patrick's Home in Ottawa. GRISAK, Millicent "Rennie" (nee Rose). Peacefully in hospital in Perth, Ontario on Thursday, March 27, 2008 Millicent Renwick Grisak at the age of ninety-one years. Rennie was predeceased in 2003 by her loved husband, John Grisak; she will be sadly missed by her sisters Virginia (late Roy) Forbes of Calgary, Alberta and Jacqueline (late William) Asquith of Perth, Ontario, her nineteen nieces and nephews, brother-in-law William Heimbuch, family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Lucy (Halbert) and James Ernest Rose, sisters June (Edmond) Auclair, Mavis (Alfred "Ted") Wilson, Fern (Chester) Rackham and Joycelyn Heimbuch . HUGHES, Ellen (Helen) Theresa (nee Collins). Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving daughters on March 27, 2008. Helen was predeceased by her cherished husband and best friend of sixty-three years, Albert. Helen was the much loved mother of Maureen (Gary), Mary (Rob), Ken (Arlene) and Terry (Ron) and beloved grandmother of Jennifer, Helena, Mike, Matt, Nick and Brad. She will be missed by her sister Peggy Chambers, her brother-in-law John Woods (Wini), Phyllis Roy, Ted Kiernan (Dorothy), Francis Chambers, Bette-Anne MacGregor, John Maxwell (Christine) as well as her many nieces and nephews and their families, and by her dear friends. Helen was predeceased by her mother Eliza Russell, her father Philip Collins, and her brothers and sisters Matt, Bonny, Tom, Martin, Ted, Nick, Bridge (Bridgette), Mary, Betty (Elizabeth), Alice, and Wini (Winifred). Helen moved to Vancouver, B.C. in early 2005 to be closer to her loving daughters Maureen, Mary and Terry who made sure that Mom's life was greatly enriched by the tender care and devotion they provided to her. Helen's outgoing nature together with her love of family, made her beloved by all who knew her. The family would like to express our gratitude to the many gifted and compassionate health care professionals who have been so kind and gentle with Mom throughout the years. WREN, Joyce Alison (nee Clinch) February 15, 1926 - March 29, 2008 Joyce Wren passed away peacefully on March 29, 2008 at the Foothills Hospital, surrounded by her family. Joyce will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of sixty-one years, Gerald; her four children, Donald (Janette), Beverly (Gary), Valerie and Brenda; her nine grandchildren, Fiona (Mike), Oliver (Sheri), Rebecca (Dellas), Angela (Russ), Pamela, Jason, Chris, Logan and Travis; and her nephew, Bill. She was predeceased by her sister, Merle Stevens, and her brother Gordon Clinch. Joyce was born in Saskatoon on February 15, 1926 and grew up in Calgary, where she met and married Jerry in 1946. In addition to raising four children, Joyce worked at the University of Calgary in the Department of Educational Administration for twenty years, before retiring in the early 1980s. Joyce enjoyed many different pastimes over the years, including reading, crochet, needlepoint, and crossword puzzles. She was a loving wife and mother and a proud grandmother - we will all miss her bright smile. We would like to thank the staff at the Brentwood Care Centre, where Joyce resided for the past year. SHERMAN, NELLIE - Mrs. Nellie M. Upton Sherman 96 went home to be with her Lord March 28, 2008 at Narraguagus Bay Assisted Living Facility in Milbridge, Maine. Born May 17, 1911 in Stewiacke, NS she was the daughter of the late Edmund Roy and Annie Isabella (Leake) Weaver. In 1930, she married Percy G. Upton. They lived on Grand Manan and raised their family there. Following Percy's death in 1956, she moved to Fredericton, NB and married the late Clark A. Sherman in 1959 and moved to Eastport, Maine. In the later years of her life she moved to Cherryfield in 1994. Nellie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, and had a real talent for making her home a warm and inviting place. There was always a cup of tea and a plate of cookies for all who came by for a visit. She is survived by her children, Lorraine Ingalls of Oshawa, ON, Dawn Frankland and husband Burton of Whitehead, NB, Russell Upton and wife Joyce of Stittsville, ON, Ronald Upton and wife Kathy of Cherryfield, ME, and stepson Clark Sherman and wife Susan of Pleasant Ridge, ME. She is also survived by 12 grand children, 13 great grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren, two step grandsons and their families, and two step great granddaughters and their families. MITCHELL-RONALD S. - With great sadness we announce the death of Ronald (Sidney) Mitchell at the Charlotte County Hospital on March 30, 2008, at the age of 87. Born in Charlotte County on March 10, 1921, son of the late Alfred and Agnes (Lord) Mitchell. Wife of Dora (Kaglar) Mitchell. A Veteran of WWII, he served overseas with the New Brunswick North Shore Regiment landing in Europe on D-Day on Juno Beach. After the war he was a farmer, woodsman and in the later years employed at Bartlett's Saw Mill. Ronald was predeceased by a son, Gerald; brothers, Kenneth and Lester; daughter-in-law, Linda (Moffatt) Mitchell and Darlene (Allen) Mitchell. CARROLL, TREVOR M. - Unexpectedly, the death of Trevor Michael Carroll of Saint John, NB, occurred on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on December 5, 1971, in Toronto, Ontario, he was a son of JoAnne Carroll (Douglas Melvin), Kenny Bailey (Doris Bailey) and adopted son of Stephen Carroll (Cathy Carroll). Trevor was employed with Zellers as a cashier. Besides his parents he is survived by brothers, Derick (Taralyn) Carroll, Stephen Foote, step-brother, Bradley Doucette, sister, Crystal Carroll all of Saint John, NB; cousin and best friend Bernie MacEachern, nieces, Janelle Carroll and Jenelle Foote, several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews. Evelyn Shand Peacefully, Evelyn passed away at the age of 82. Evelyn is survived by children George (Carol), Kathy (John), Sherri (Grant) and Doug; her grandchildren, many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. She was predeceased by her husband George Sr. and grandson Christopher. Special thanks go out to her niece and best friend Sandra Sanders, for all her help and consideration over the years. Evelyn was born to Moses and Josephine Lafournaise in Boggy Creek (San Clara). She moved to Winnipeg where she met and married George Shand. During her life Evelyn worked for AEC, CN and later for the Manitoba Government as a home care worker. She loved to cook and bake for others and often read tea leaves for her friends. She made many friends in life as a seamstress and made clothes and did alterations. She designed and created wedding dresses and occasionally took on projects like aircraft wing covers and costumes. Evelyn's special interests were; reading; caring for her roses and morning glories; and walking her little dog Ginger. Evelyn will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of the Charleswood Care Centre for making her last days comfortable. Special thanks go to Bea and all the staff of Unit 1. In accordance with her wishes, Evelyn will be cremated and she will rest at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. MELLENGER, MABELLE BERTHA - Mabelle Bertha Mellenger of Saint John, who had been residing at St. Joseph's Hospital GEM Unit, passed away peacefully on March 30th, 2008 at the age of 103. She was born in Saint John on Jan. 16th, 1905 and was the daughter of the late Alfred Croucher and Bertha Jane (Barbour) Currie. Mabelle attended Victoria School and Saint John High School. She was instrumental in starting the Girl Guides in Saint John and was active for many years in the canoe trips led by Dr. William McIntosh. She also loved skiing and golf. Mabelle was one of the original members of the Westfield Golf Club, spending many summers in Westfield. In 1930 she married Edmund Rex Mellenger and they moved to Toronto and later to Montreal. During the war years, they lived in New York, Detroit and Buffalo. After the war, Mabelle spent 17 years travelling with Rex in Europe. In 1964 they moved back to Saint John and remained there for the rest of her life. Mabelle was always a very active member of Trinity Church. She was predeceased by her husband Rex, and two brothers, Laurence and Vance. She is survived by two nephews, Leslie and Alan Currie, and two cousins, Pat Peer and Ruth Anne Phinney. Mabelle always had such a positive attitude about life and friends, and it was always a joy to be in her presence. She had endless stories to tell and always kept her friends spellbound by her adventures. She was truly an inspiration to all of the following generations, and will be sadly missed. Mabelle was a marvelous person and it is a pleasure to celebrate her life. An announcement about a memorial service will be made at a later date. GARDNER, Elnora Anne (Greig) Daughter, sister, mother, nurse, wife, aunt, friend, Noranne, Nan, Annie, Anne. Anne Gardner, born July 24, 1940 in Trochu, Alberta, passed away March 29, 2008 in White Rock, British Columbia. She leaves behind husband Edward, daughters Colleen and Shannon Cochrane, of Calgary, parents Fay and Henry Greig, of Trochu, brothers Chuck (Myrtle) Greig and family of High River, Dale (Maureen) Greig of Barrhead, sister Evelyn (George) Zaklan and family of Surrey, Ed's family Vicky (Dale) Baxandall and family, Rob (Terri) Gardner and family, Nancy Barnes and family. Noranne attended all of her grade school in Trochu, then graduated from the Calgary General Hospital as a registered nurse in 1961. Anne married Brian Cochrane in 1961 and moved to Pincher Creek where she worked at the hospital. Both of her daughters were born in Pincher Creek. In 1972 she returned to work as a full-time psych nurse at the Calgary General. In 1980 she moved to Richmond. Anne married Ed in 1981, their love and commitment to each other was evident to all they encountered. She stayed in psychiatry and worked at UBC and Peace Arch hospitals until her retirement in 2004. She traveled extensively, played the piano, badminton, danced and sang. The birds and rabbits in the backyard were a constant source of enjoyment. Her attitude and outlook was positive to the end, never varying from her life-long desire to care about others. She took the time to make sure those around her would be taken care of and always had a "thank you so much" for those caring for her. In lieu of flowers, donations please, to the BC Cancer Foundation. Arrangements through Prairie Winds of Trochu. The Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at St. Paul's United Church, Trochu.
