Born June 7th, 1939 to Jack and Dora (Constantineau) Manton (both predeceased), in Dalton, Ontario. Beloved wife of Harold “Spike“ Boal of Sudbury. Loving mother of Bruce of Sudbury and Tara Trimmer (Chris) of Hanmer. Cherished grandmother of Katrine Trimmer, who gave so much joy to her life. Dear sister of Margaret Gavin (Bob), Jean Byers (Denis), Carole Tyreman (Bill) and Pat Lalonde (Armond) all of Sudbury, John (Mary) of Kelowna, B.C., and Don (Nancy) of Pembroke. Dear sister-in-law of Bonnie Thomas (Ron predeceased) and Cathie Horne (Dan) both of Kirkland Lake. A great listener for her many nieces & nephews. Dolly worked many years for the Taxation Data Centre and was a member and former Executive member of the Mended Hearts and CWL. She enjoyed time with the “Bridge Girls“ and her scrabble games with her dear friends. Dolly will be remembered for one who never complained, her gentle heart and always having a smile to share. COOK, Ernest Douglas - Suddenly at the North Bay General Hospital on Sunday March 30th, 2008 at the age of 76 years. Douglas Cook was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (nee Casey) who predeceased him in 2002. The proud and loving father of John of Calgary, Paul and his wife Karen of North Bay, and Peggy-Lou Shook and her husband Stephen of Brampton. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Matthew and Amy Cook and Brittnie and Maggie Shook . Born in Halifax Doug was the second youngest of the thirteen children of John and Letitia Cooke. He was predeceased by his parents and ten of his siblings. He is survived by his sisters Doris Bryson of Dartmouth and Ruth Benjamin Soles Lake. Doug was an aircraft mechanic by trade and retired as a Warrant Officer from the Canadian Air Force after a 35 year career. His family would like to thank the North Bay General Hospital Emergency Department staff for their professional and compassionate care. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. Parents et amis regrettent le départ de Larry avec son optimisme inébranlable, sa bonne humeur contagieuse et sa grande générosité. Survived by her 7 children; Sandy (wife Linda), Gail (Allan), Rick (fiancée Kelly), Kris (husband Dan), Janice (Don), Dana (wife Uno), Doug (wife Diane) and adopted son Jim (wife Donna). Grandchildren, Todd (wife Maria), Marnie (husband Peter), Paula, Kylla (Paul), Alan (Brigitte), Ian (Petyna), Carmen (husband Kimmo), Valerie and Mark predeceased, Jena, Erika, Lisa, Steven, Leah, Dan (Kim) and Michael (Judy). NIDD, James Alton January 6, 1923 - March 29, 2008 James Nidd, beloved husband of Bernice Nidd (nee Johnston) of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the age of 85 years. James was born in Ottawa, ON, married Bernice in 1949 and moved his family to Calgary, AB in 1957. James's career was in aerial photography and he worked for Spartan Air Services, Kenting Services and finally formed his own company, Foto Flight, in 1978. Jim was a WWII Veteran, joining the Canadian Armed Forces at eighteen; he spent the next four years on the front lines in Europe. The loves of Jim's life were his family, hunting and fishing, smoking his cigar and walking his dog in the prairie. He also was a life-long learner, always with a book in hand; he passed this love of knowledge on to his children. Besides his wife, Bernice, James is survived by his five children, Phillip Nidd (Christine) of Houston, TX; Deborah Guthrie (William) of Kelowna, BC; David Nidd (Debbie) of Creston, BC; Mark Nidd of Kelowna, BC; Joanne Rota (Tony) of Revelstoke, BC; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as several nephews and nieces. James was predeceased by his parents, James and Beatrice; sister Sadie Stevenson, brothers Donald and Morley Nidd. Henderson Doris Thérèse Henderson, 80, wife of the late Jim Henderson, of Moncton, with her loving family at her side, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Sunday, March 30th, 2008. GARDNER, Elnora Anne (Greig) Daughter, sister, mother, nurse, wife, aunt, friend, Noranne, Nan, Annie, Anne. Anne Gardner, born July 24, 1940 in Trochu, Alberta, passed away March 29, 2008 in White Rock, British Columbia. She leaves behind husband Edward, daughters Colleen and Shannon Cochrane, of Calgary, parents Fay and Henry Greig, of Trochu, brothers Chuck (Myrtle) Greig and family of High River, Dale (Maureen) Greig of Barrhead, sister Evelyn (George) Zaklan and family of Surrey, Ed's family Vicky (Dale) Baxandall and family, Rob (Terri) Gardner and family, Nancy Barnes and family. Noranne attended all of her grade school in Trochu, then graduated from the Calgary General Hospital as a registered nurse in 1961. Anne married Brian Cochrane in 1961 and moved to Pincher Creek where she worked at the hospital. Both of her daughters were born in Pincher Creek. In 1972 she returned to work as a full-time psych nurse at the Calgary General. In 1980 she moved to Richmond. Anne married Ed in 1981, their love and commitment to each other was evident to all they encountered. She stayed in psychiatry and worked at UBC and Peace Arch hospitals until her retirement in 2004. She traveled extensively, played the piano, badminton, danced and sang. The birds and rabbits in the backyard were a constant source of enjoyment. Her attitude and outlook was positive to the end, never varying from her life-long desire to care about others. She took the time to make sure those around her would be taken care of and always had a "thank you so much" for those caring for her. In lieu of flowers, donations please, to the BC Cancer Foundation. Arrangements through Prairie Winds of Trochu. The Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at St. Paul's United Church, Trochu. CHILDERHOSE, Reta Ailene (nee McQuigge) - Died peacefully at her home on Sunday March 30, 2008. She was 85 years old. Aileen is predeceased by her parents Stephen and Hazel McQuigge, and her two sisters: Isabelle and Marie. Born in Havelock, Ontario, she married her late Husband Victor (Vic) Childerhose and they were life long citizens of Kingston. She will be remembered by many as the nurse- receptionist for Dr Al O'Hara. Surviving her are her three sons: Brian (Susan); Brent (Gwen) and Barry (David) - (the three Bs!); her niece Anne Marie Smith and her nephews: Victor Stevenson and Thomas and William Whitney. Reta was especially close to her hopelessly spoiled grandchildren: Megan, Tyler, Lauren and Connor, who will recall her sensitivity and loving presence. Above all, she had ability to make each of them feel special. Reta will be remembered by all for her sharp and zany sense of humour, her loyalty to her family and her unconditional love. She was particularly fond of parties in which she entertained at her home. She liked nothing better than to laugh loudly with her family and friends while sharing some rum toddy. During dark times, Reta would always, somehow, find something funny to comment on, and help everyone's mood. Reta was a woman who lived her life on her own terms. Her generosity, sensitivity and unique wit made the lives of those who knew her a little brighter. Asked once what single quality she wanted her children to demonstrate, her answer was one that she showed always, and that was “compassion“. She left her life on her own time with dignity. She is deeply missed. WILSON, Kathleen Agnes (Kaye) - July 16, 1920 ~ March 31, 2008 - Peacefully and surrounded by family, Kathleen Agnes Wilson passed away at the Ontario Finnish Resthome on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the age of 87. HORNE, Sybil Isabel April 2008-04-01 Mrs. Sybil Isabel April Horne, age 82 years, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Sybil was born in Fort William on April 15, 1925, attended Franklin Street School and Selkirk High School and was a lifelong resident. Sybil worked in the office at Can Car during the war and then Great Lakes Paper until she married John in 1948. Sybil survived the polio epidemic of the 50‘s, leaving her husband and two small children while she was in Toronto General Hospital for over a year. She returned home to her family through her determination and strength of character. Sybil‘s daughters were the 1st recipients of the polio vaccine in Fort William. After she was widowed in 1967, while raising her daughters she returned to Great Lakes Paper Woodlands Benefits Division until retirement. Sybil was a member of St. Andrew‘s Presbyterian Church, Iona Guild and the Order of the Eastern Star, Connaught Chapter. Her main interests included her family and summers at Oliver Lake. Sybil loved to swim and taught all the kids to swim. She was so proud to have presented the swimming medals at the ‘81 Canada Summer Games. Sybil was most generous in supporting a large number of charities. Sybil lived independently and to the fullest. Friends and neighbours will miss seeing Sybil out on her scooter wearing her latest hat. Sybil will be deeply missed by her daughters April, Pam and Karen, grandchildren Tara Vilas (Victor), Vancouver (here) and Taylor Clarke, Matthew and Molly Hogan, great-grandson Connor Vilas, brother Gaye Stewart (Margaret), Burlington (enroute) nephews Ian and Jim Stewart and Gerry Culliton. She was predeceased by her parents John and Jane Stewart and husband John Horne. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at St. Andrew‘s Presbyterian Church at 11:00am with Rev. Bert Vancook officiating. Interment of ashes in Mountain View Cemetery. KENNEY, Edward Price January 23, 1929 - March 30, 2008 Edward Price Kenney of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the age of 79 years. Ed was born in Redland, AB and was the eldest son of Owen and Helen (Nellie) Kenney. He spent many years in the oil industry in Calgary and then retired to Victoria in the early eighties. Ed and Nadine moved back to Calgary in 1999. He thoroughly enjoyed golf, music, sports, gardening and travelling. Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly fifty-eight years, Nadine, and by his children, Susan (Bill) Marriott, Ross (Rhonda Mikulak), Michael, all of Calgary, AB; Beverley of Victoria and Roger of Edmonton, AB. Grandpa will also be missed by his grandchildren, Devin Raskin, Kellie Rondeau (Jamie Graham), David Rondeau of Victoria, BC, Christopher Marriott, Heather (Kelly) Baardseth, Daniel Kenney and Stephanie Kenney, all of Calgary. His great-grandchildren Liam Graham and Kaycee Baardseth also gave him special pleasure. He will be remembered by his sisters, Ellen Todd of Vancouver and Carolyn (William) McLennan of Calgary. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Ross Owen, in October 1938. He will also be missed by numerous relatives and friends. CAMPBELL, Susan In the Carleton Place Hospital, on Monday, March 31, 2008 at age 60 after a 6 month fight with cancer. Susan Margaret McCourt, daughter of the late Vernon and Melba McCourt. Beloved wife of Gordon Campbell. Loved always by her daughter Jodie (Richard) Hoerdt and their children Stefan and Spencer. Also loved by her step-daughter Debra Healey and her children Andrew and Jordan. Fondly remembered by her sister Jane (James) Wolfe and by Jodie's father Larry Robinson. TOFFELMIRE, Gladys Elsie Margaret Wareham - Peacefully in her sleep, at the home of her son, on Monday March 31, 2008. Born in London, England, on November 26, 1922. Beloved wife of the late Elmer B. Toffelmire, loving mother of Ted Toffelmire (Deirdre Waywell) of Kingston, and predeceased by her daughter Nancy E. T. Fahrner (Chris) of Toronto. She is survived by her cherished granddaughters Elizabeth Fahrner and Claire, Maggie and Nicola Toffelmire; her sister Doris (Harry) Mabson of Toronto; and her brother Victor (Judy) Wareham of Windsor. Gladys was an artist with yarns. She kept her family and friends well supplied with socks, sweaters, hats and mitts, none of which followed a pattern and all of which included a new technique or design that she had come across. These skills extended to crochet, and more recently her daughter Nancy introduced her to the fineries of needle-arts to which she aspired. Her creative abilities were also evident in her love of gardening. She was a longtime avid horticulturalist as a grower, society member, and competition judge. She surrounded herself and others with the beauty of flowers, including her many gardens, the wildflowers at the Lemoine Point Conservation Area, and annual daffodils at Edith Rankin Memorial Church. Gladys was an independent woman. When she was told that something was not possible, she would find a way, as she taught her children, and their children. Possibly the clearest example of such role modeling was when she became a private pilot at the age of 63. The family will receive friends at the ROBERT J. REID & SONS FUNERAL HOME, “The Chapel on the Corner“, 309 Johnson Street (at Barrie Street) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held from the Chapel on Thursday, April 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Interment Cataraqui Cemetery. HAWRELAK (nee Ticknor), Gladys Cecile 2008-04-01 Born in Port Arthur, Ont. (Thunder Bay) January 6th, 1917, daughter of Arthur and Dorothea Ticknor passed away in Redcliff, Alberta March 27, 2008. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons and two daughters - Jacqueline of Calgary; Alan of Edmonton; Janet Hagisavas (Nick) of St. Albert; and Robert of Redcliff, Alberta. Also two grandsons Alex and Ari Hagisavas. Plus brother A.E. (Ted) Ticknor and wife Irene of Kitchener, Ont. and sisters-in-law Vera Ticknor of Toronto and Maxine Ticknor of London, Ont. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband George Hawrelak in 1987 and two brothers John (Jack) Ticknor 1985 and Robert (Bob) Ticknor in 2000. Gladys was educated in Port Arthur and then worked as a photographer and tinting artist for the Fred Lovelady Camera Shop. When war was declared in 1939 she volunteered with the Red Cross Transport and worked after hours with them - members of the army trained them. In 1943 she joined the RCAF, Photographic Section. She met her husband, George, also a member of the RCAF during this time and they were married in 1944. When war ended and they were discharged from the Air Force they came west to Alberta. George graduated with a pharmacy degree in 1951 from the U of A. Upon graduation they bought the drugstore in Redcliff, Alberta establishing a permanent home.
