EMBERSON, Arthur Joseph Patrick - On Thursday, March 27, 2008 Arthur Emberson passed away peacefully at the Henley House. He is survived by his children Laurie (Brian), Deborah (Rick), Kerry (Lola), his step-daughter Laura (Mark), sister Barbara, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by his longtime companion Luisa De Almeida. Art was an over forty year employee at General Motors Plant One. “Arty“ was the equipment and property manager of the Junior B Falcons for many years (1969-1988) and being at the rink was his passion; GO FALCONS GO!!! His family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and nurses of Henley House where he resided. Friends will be received at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St., on Sunday from 5 - 8 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11 am with cremation to follow. CEMBALISTY, John Evan - Surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Merritton, on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the age of 76. Predeceased by his wife, Shirley (1989). Loving companion of Joyce Ruscio for 17 years. Dear father of Brian and Jack. Brother of Evelyn McBride, Helen Hardy, Veronica Cembalisty and Irene Emo. John was a president of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #138 Merritton for 7 years; he held all offices and was a life member of Br. #138, also serving as an officer of Zone B. He participated in various sports activities, volunteered in the Children's Public Speaking and was on the cribbage team. John was also a member of A.D.A.N.A.C. Lodge #614 A.F. and A.M. and a member of O.A.C.E.T.T. of Ontario. He worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway for 35 years retiring in 1991. John's family will receive their family and friends at the LAMB- BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME, 2 Regent St., Thorold on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in The Lamb Chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. The Rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines. YELLINA, Marcella (Martinig) - It is with deep sadness the family announces her death on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Centre. She was born on January 26th, 1915 at Tercimonte di Savogna, Italy, to Antonio Martinig and Maria Petricic both predeceased. Predeceased by two brothers and 6 step-brothers and sisters in Italy and Belgium. She is survived by her sister-in-law Maria Vogrig of Italy and several nieces and nephews in Italy and Belgium. Beloved wife of 65 years to Antonio Yellina. Loving mother of Lydia Stopar (husband Emilio) and Lorenzo both of Sudbury, and Dario (wife Patricia) of Orillia. Cherished Nonna of Frank (wife Anna), Michael (wife Gaetanne), Terra (husband Doug), Laura and Curtis. Proud bis nonna of Dylan, Leondra and Amelia. Marcella and Antonio arrived in Canada in 1951, and settled in Sudbury. She was devoted and loyal to her family, an excellent cook and had a passion for growing flowers. She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Manitoulin Island. The family wishes to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses on the 5th Floor at St. Joseph's Health Centre for their compassion and great care. Special thanks to Dr. Vance and his staff. ELLIS, Thelma Louise ELLIS, Thelma Louise - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on March 27, 2008, in Ocean View Manor, Dartmouth. Thelma was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Estella (Allen) Porter. Born August 28, 1914, in Lake George, Yarmouth Co., Thelma lived all her life in Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co., and moved recently to be close to her family in Dartmouth. She was a devoted member of Bay View United Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. Thelma also enjoyed the fellowship of the New Horizons Seniors Group. She is survived by her son, Alan (Mona), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Krista (Martina), Houston, Tex.; Todd (Elena), Dartmouth; Timothy (Gillian), Toronto; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jordan, Kristal, Kelly, Oliver, Aidan; brother-in-law, Vernon, and special niece, Sandy Sharpe. She was predeceased by her husband, Jesse. A memorial service will be held in Bay View United Baptist Church, Port Maitland, on April 5 at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Port Maitland/Beaver River Cemetery. MacCALLUM, Hartley Eugene MacCALLUM, Hartley Eugene - 96, North River, passed away peacefully Friday, March 28, 2008, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born May 18, 1911, in MacCallum Settlement, he was a son of the late Irving and Lillian (Johnson) MacCallum. Hartley attended North River United Church and was a former woodsman, heavy machine mechanic with the CNR, and later with Jack MacMillan with farm machinery. Hartley is survived by his daughter, Marion (Frank) Tucker, North River; sister, Faye MacKay, Truro; grandchildren, Melanie (Terry) McNutt and Philip (Debbie) Tucker; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Michael and Colton McNutt, Chad and Dylan Tucker. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Beth (MacRae); sisters, Edith, Violet, and Lillian; brothers, Lorne, Victor, Foster, Herman, and Carman. MacDONALD, Anthony Francis "Tony" MacDONALD, Anthony Francis "Tony" - Doctors Brook, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2008, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Doctors Brook in 1916 to the late Dan A. and Sarah MacDonald, Tony remained in his childhood home until 2003, when he became a resident of Glen Haven. Tony worked on the farm on which he was raised during his youth, later working in construction with Colin R. MacDonald LTD until his retirement. Tony will be remembered as a wonderful uncle and an avid cribbage teacher, whose home was always open to friends and family. Known for living a full and happy life, Tony preferred to spend his free time in his garden or watching the ocean from his back deck. He will be sadly missed by immediate family members, Robert Funke (Janet), New Glasgow, and their daughters Jennifer, Robin (Melvin Gilliam), Jillian and Kathleen; surviving sisters, Elizabeth (Lawrence) MacDonald, Ardness; Ann (Jim Finney), Windsor, Ont., and many nieces and nephews. McKEAN, Thomas McKEAN, Thomas - Dartmouth, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, in Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Edwards) McKean. Thomas worked as a foreman at the Halifax Shipyards. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Halifax, and a member of the Halifax Flying Club and an avid pilot. He loved to tinker with anything mechanical and for the last number of years his number one interest was his cars. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; son-in-law, James (Marilyn) Mason, Fall River; stepsons, George (Kathy) Burgess, Fall River; Ronnie Burgess, Winnipeg; stepdaughter, Donna (James) Doyle, Mount Uniacke; brother, George (Mildred), Halifax; grandchildren, James (Karen) Mason, Fall River; Lori (Ivano) Balzen; great-grandchildren, Diana and Olivia Mason, Gracie Balzen; stepgrandchildren, Robyn Burgess, John Doyle, Joe Doyle, Natasha Burgess, and Jeanette. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva; daughter, Diane Mason; brother, Arthur, and sister, Helen. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway 3, Lunenburg, where the memorial service to celebrate Thomas' life will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. WHALEN, Nema Mae WHALEN, Nema Mae - 81, Dartmouth, loving wife of the late Edgar J. Whalen, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2008, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in East Dover, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Annie (Foote) Zinck. In her younger years, Nema worked at Moirs Chocolates. She then worked at Simpsons for many years in the SouWester Restaurant. Nema then was employed at The Bay in the West End Mall, from where she retired early to diligently and patiently care for her husband, Edgar. She was a faithful member of Sheffield Baptist Church. Surviving are her devoted sons, Gilbert, Dartmouth, and Ken (Susan), Halifax; her treasured grandsons, Ben and Brad Whalen, as well as many brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Edgar, in December 2005; her parents, and several brothers and sisters. Resting in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Monday from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, at 1:30 p.m. in Sheffield Baptist Church, 80 Lincoln Cross, Halifax. Dorice M. Miller The passing of Dorice (Caissie) Miller resident of Saint John, NB, wife of Gordon Miller, occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Dieppe, NB, Dorice was the daughter of the late Donat and Irene (Gauvin) Caissie. She is survived by a son, Constable Stan Miller (Jacqueline) of Saint John and daughter Monique Doherty (Patrick), who is presently teaching school in Sarajevo Bosnia. Her grandchildren, Justin and Julia Miller, Kaya and Camdyn Doherty; two sisters, Mae Arsenault (Clifford) of Summerside, PEI, Gloria Savard (Frank) of Pointe-Du-Chene, NB and several nieces and nephews. Dorice was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family. She loved traveling and was very proud of her Acadian heritage, being able to trace her family back to the arrival of Acadians in The NB and NS. Dorice helped establish and taught at what was the first French Kindergarden in the Saint John Area, she was also a member of St. Rose Parish in Saint John. Over the years she has resided in Moncton, Fredericton, Sarnia, Ontario and Saint John. Born July 31st, 1914 in Amherst, she was the daughter of the late Albénie and Élodia (Williams) Bourgeois. Edmée enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, and was a past member of the St-Philippe Golden Age Club.. THOMPSON, ROBERT VAUGHAN, "R.V." - died peacefully at home in Woodstock, NB on March 28, 2008 in his 92nd year. Founder of R.V. Thompson Insurance and Real Estate, he was the son of the late Dr. Robert G. & Mary J. (Sharkey) Thompson. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Mary Elizabeth (O'Neill); his sisters, Joan (in childhood), Jacqueline (John) Page, Yolande (Robert) Snow; and his brother, Victor (Gwen) Thompson. He is survived by his second wife, Marlene Flewelling; two children from his first marriage, son John & his wife Lois Cameron, daughter Carmelita O'Neill; three grandchildren, John T., Margot, and Mary Kathleen and their father, Robbie O'Neill; and a brother, Jerome "Jimmer" (Kay) Thompson. Vaughan grew up in Woodstock, attended local schools, was a graduate of Carleton County Vocational School and began his business career in the law firm of D. R. Bishop. He served during World War II as Captain in the North Shore Regiment. In 1945, he joined the Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada (now Sun Life Financial). For many years he was among Mutual Life's Top 10 Producers in Canada and in 1965, he received Mutual Life's national honor as "Outstanding Man of the Year", the only Maritimer to achieve this recognition. With exceptional sales ability and inherent enthusiasm, he also built up the successful general insurance and real estate brokerages that still bear his name. Involved in civic activities, Vaughan gave generously of his time and talent in public governance roles, particularly in health care. For almost three decades he served on the L.P. Fisher Hospital and Carleton Memorial Hospital boards, as director, and then chairman. In 1971, the New Brunswick Hospital Association (NBHA) elected him President and Chairman of the Board. A lifelong advocate of the need for growth in private sector industry and enterprise, in the 1960's, he headed the Woodstock Board of Trade, working successfully to attract industry to the area and facilitating the foundation of the Woodstock Industrial Park. He also played a leading role in numerous community drives, projects and initiatives to enhance to the recreational, cultural, educational and healthcare aspects of his community. He worked tirelessly to raise funds to build Carleton county's first indoor ice arena on Island Park (in the 1940's) and later, to acquire its first artificial ice plant. He was actively involved in the establishment of the Carleton Memorial Hospital, the Carleton Memorial School of Nursing and Nurses Residence. In the 1970's he spearheaded the founding of the Milton Gregg Memorial Park in Benton. In the 1980's, he lead the effort to provide Woodstock High School Theatre with a concert grand piano. This subsequently facilitated the rebirth of the Carleton County Music Festival. A later fundraising effort was the creation of the Dr. Grace L. Caughlin Scholarship Fund for the Woodstock Community College. He believed that the Vocational School in Woodstock and more specifically the caliber of its educators, had played an instrumental role in equipping individuals of his generation with superb business and excellent communication skills. PÉLOQUIN, Jules 1925 - 2008 C'est avec regret que nous vous annonçons le décès de M. Jules Péloquin à Sorel, le 25 mars 2008, à l'âge de 82 ans, époux de feu Mme. Madeleine Déry. Il laisse dans le deuil sa fille Jocelyne (Michel Touchette), son fils André, son frère Roger, sa soeur Denise, sa belle-soeur Rose Déry, son neveu Robert ainsi que plusieurs autres parents et amis.
