FLINT, William Ross FLINT, William Ross - 87, Lunenburg, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Mid-Lothian, Scotland on December 25, 1920, he was a son of William Small and Mary Amelia (McGlynn) Flint. During the Second World War, Bill served in the military as a Staff Sergeant in France and West Africa. He was a systems engineer with Litton Canada for 25 years and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Fay; stepdaughter, Jean Millar, Corkum's Island, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Norina, and brother, Stanley. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date. AKERMAN, Gareth AKERMAN, Gareth - 33, Halifax, died in a plane crash in Florida on March 13, 2008, while doing scientific research on birds and their environment. Gareth embraced life passionately. He loved his family, nature, music, traveling, and the company of his friends. BRIAND, Leonard J. "Lenus" BRIAND, Leonard J. "Lenus" - 81, Pondville South, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2008, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Pondville, he was a son of the late Raymond and Sarah (Luce) Briand. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 47, Grand Anse. Besides his great love for his family, Dad also held a special place in his heart for his favorite dog, Duffy. He enjoyed music and dancing with his loving wife, and many friends. His favourite hobby was repairing and rebuilding bicycles, for which he was well-known. He is survived by wife, Eleanor (Boudreau); son, Curtis (Cindy), Westmount; daughters, Diane Forgeron (Mervin Nicholls ), Roseline Forgeron, both of Truro; Carol Covin (Howard), Dartmouth; Patsy Dorey (Leonard), West Arichat; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Boudreau and Theresa Boudreau (Patrick), both of Arichat. He was predeceased by his brother, Chester; sister, Amelia; granddaughter, Charlene Fauvelle. Visitation will take place today from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in C.H. DOUCETTE (Arsenault), Marie DOUCETTE (Arsenault), Marie - 1904-2008, Nouvelle Que., formerly of Cape St. Marys, Digby Co., passed away peacefully in L'Aube Riviere Nursing Home, Nouvelle, Que., on March 27, 2008, in her 104th year. Born August 16, 1904, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughters, Marguerite (Stanley) Doucette, St. Omer, Que.; Alphonsene "Al" Beatty, Halifax; Annette LeBlanc, Mercier, Que.; sons, Gaston (Jackie), Charlesbourg, Que.; Harold (Hugette), St. Phillipe de la Prairie, Que.; Victor (Marion), Nouvelle, Que.; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse; son, Omer, and grandson, Maxime. We feel blessed for having her in our lives for so long and we will continue to thank God for the blessings she brought into our lives, her undying love and guidance and the precious gift of family.

GILLIS, Gregory Myles GILLIS, Gregory Myles - 81, Halifax, passed away March 27, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Dominion, he was a son of the late Daniel and Lucy Gillis. He worked for General Electric in Halifax for 27 years. He was a life member of St. Stephen's Parish in Halifax. Greg enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and spending time at his cottage. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, and dearly loved spending time with his granddaughters and was looking forward to the birth of his third granddaughter. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Ethel (Pettipas); daughters, Kendra (Phillip) Walker, Karen (Jeffrey) Farwell; son, Kevin; granddaughters, Kiersten and Madison Walker, all of Halifax; sisters, Stella Holmes, Sudbury, Ont., and Mary Crowell, Richmond Hill, Ont. He was predeceased by sister, Tina; brothers, John, Allen, Anthony, and Daniel. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, in Blessed Mother of Calcutta Parish, 6032 Normandy Dr., Halifax, Rev. Gilbert Bertrand OMI officiating. LYONS, Sister Clare Marie LYONS, Sister Clare Marie - 91, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died suddenly at Bethany, the Motherhouse, on Thursday, March 27, 2008, in the 73rd year of her religious life. Sister Clare Marie was born in Calgary, Alta., and was the fifth oldest in a family of eight children. She was a daughter of the late Peter Bernard Lyons and Cecilia (Jennings) Lyons. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on September 10, 1934. She pronounced her first vows on August 15, 1936, and her perpetual vows on August 15, 1939. Following her first profession, Sister Clare Marie attended St. Francis Xavier University and graduated in 1939 with a B.Sc. degree. In 1949 Sister Clare Marie graduated from St. Martha's School of Nursing, at which time she obtained her R.N. In 1951 she obtained her Master of Science degree in nursing education from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Sister Clare Marie was missioned to St. Martha's School of Nursing from 1939 to 1964, holding positions of instructor, assistant director, and director of nursing. In 1964 she went to St. Joseph's Hospital in Glace Bay, as director of the School of Nursing and served in that capacity until 1970. From there she worked as Nursing Education Consultant for the Registered Nurses' Association of Nova Scotia from 1970 to 1980, during which time she resided in Halifax. This ministry involved her being consultant to all Schools of Nursing in Nova Scotia. In 1980, Sister Clare Marie returned to Bethany and became the director of activities for the senior sisters at Bethany. She held that position until 2003, when she, more or less, became fully retired. However, she had continued her ministry as contact and communication person with every graduate from the former Schools of Nursing in Antigonish and Glace Bay, as well as with members of the Registered Nurses' Association of Nova Scotia. Sister Clare Marie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by sisters, Cecilia, Elizabeth and Mary Theresa, and by brothers, John Patrick, Joseph Stephen, Father Clarence and Father Edward. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. The remains will be resting at Bethany beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, where a Celebration of Vigil will be held that same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday afternoon, March 31, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel. Born in Valley Mills, he was a son of the late Charles and Jessie (MacLean) MacLean. Charlie Dan was an adherent of Orangedale United Church and a long-time resident of Richmond Villa, St. Peter's. He is survived by sister, Sadie (Glen) Mattinson, Peterborough, Ont.; brothers, Murdock (Jessie), Truro; Robert (Joan), Marble Mountain, and several nieces and nephews. MURPHY, George Michael, Cdr (N) (Ret'd), CD MURPHY, George Michael, Cdr (N) (Ret'd), CD - 64, Upper Sackville, passed away peacefully in QEII Health Sciences Centre on March 27, 2008. Born in Ottawa, Ont., he was the son of the late John and Florence (MacDonald) Murphy. George dedicated his life to his family and those around him. George had a successful finance career with the Canadian navy with posting on ship (Terra Nova) and in Ottawa, Toronto, Moncton, and Halifax, achieving the rank of Commander by his retirement as Head of Base Supply at CFB Halifax in 1993. He then worked as the Director of Purchasing for the Nova Scotia Department of Supply and Services from 1993 to 2004. He had a great love of golf and gardening. George is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Hamilton); daughter, Leslie, Halifax; son, Greg (Jackie Crowe); grandson, Dustin, Bedford; sister, Margaret (Dave) Moffatt; niece, Kim (Mike) Shelp; nephew, Michael (Donna), all of Ottawa; special cousin, Donna Cooper, Dubai, UAE; sister-in-law, Lorna (John) Cahill, Upper Kent, N.B.; nephews, Brett (Serena) Cahill, Beechwood, N.B., and Jason (Jennifer) Cahill, Holmesville, N.B. DOYLE, Arthur Vincent Peacefully, and surrounded by his family, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Thursday, March 27, 2008, of Mr. Arthur Vincent Doyle, of Mt. Stewart, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary G. (MacDonald) Doyle, and dear father of Garry (Ann) Doyle, Debbie Crane and James “Kipper” (Mary Leah) Doyle. SIMPSON, Frank Russell Age 95, of Mitchell Street, New Glasgow, N.S., passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Lewis R. and Jemima (Ormiston) Simpson. He was a retired letter carrier, and clerk with Canada Post. He was a member of Trinity United Church. He was an Amateur Radio Operator (VEI FY). He is survived by sons, Stewart (Barb), Charlottetown; Wayne (Elaine), Abercrombie; grandchildren, Karen, Kim (Tim) McRoberts, Rob, Nancy (Phil) McGee, Kent (Tanya); great-grandchildren, Daniel, Breanna, Katie, Emily, Ella, Nicholas, Abbey; brother, Ernest, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Marion Simpson, Lindsay, Ont. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Kathleen Ella Stewart; a brother, Harold and sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Simpson. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. BRADDELL, Eber (Scott). On March 19, 2008, Scott passed away peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, B.C., at the age of ninety-seven. He will be greatly missed by his daughters Patricia Pier (Duke) and Barbara Kaburda (Mike) and by his four grandchildren, Ford and Alison Pier and Lara and Carl (Angie) Kaburda. He is also survived by his brother David Braddell in Reston, MB, and his sister Heather McKinlay (Michael) in Bahrain. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary in June 2006. A celebration of Scott's life will be held at Crescent United Church, 2756 127 St., Surrey, B.C. on Friday, April 4 at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place, followed by interment at Victory Memorial Park, Surrey (604-536-6522). RICHARDSON, LLOYD GEORGE - The death of Mr. Lloyd G. "Midge" Richardson, husband of the late Lois E. (Baird) Richardson, occurred peacefully at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing on March 28, 2008. Born in Norton, N.B., he was the son of the late E. Heber "Slim" and Ethel (Sherwood) Richardson. Lloyd was a stevedore and a member of I.L.A. Local 273, retiring in 1985. He was a member of RCL #14 and RCL #69. He spent the last 10 years living at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing. Mr. Richardson is survived by his son, Doug (Gail) Richardson; his daughter, Dian Richardson, his sister Millie Butler, all of Saint John West; grandchildren, Justin and Eli; several nieces and nephews, as well as sisters-in-law, Millie Richardson and Doris Richardson. He was predeceased by brothers, Fred, Albert, and Eddie, and sisters Estell, Gertie, and Edna. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home (634-1701), 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John. MILLER, DORICE M. - The passing of Dorice (Caissie) Miller resident of Saint John, NB, wife of Gordon Miller, occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Dieppe, NB, Dorice was the daughter of the late Donat and Irene (Gauvin) Caissie. She is survived by a son, Constable Stan Miller (Jacqueline) of Saint John; and daughter, Monique Doherty (Patrick), who is presently teaching school in Sarajevo Bosnia. Her grandchildren, Justin and Julia Miller, Kaya and Camdyn Doherty; two sisters, Mae Arsenault (Clifford) of Summerside, PEI, Gloria Savard (Frank) of Pointe-Du-Chene, NB; and several nieces and nephews. Dorice was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family. She loved traveling and was very proud of her Acadian heritage, being able to trace her family back to the arrival of Acadians in The NB and NS. Dorice helped establish and taught at what was the first French Kindergarten in the Saint John Area, she was also a member of St. Rose Parish in Saint John. Over the years she has resided in Moncton, Fredericton, Sarnia, Ontario and Saint John. She attended Notre Dame D'Acadie in Moncton and graduated from Oulton Business College and worked at Eaton's in Moncton. MACKINNON, FRANCES J. -formerly of Champlain Heights, Saint John passed away after a brief illness at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, March 28th, 2008. Born in Campbell's Cove P.E.I. on March 19th, 1919 to the late Howard and Jane C. (MacAulay) Campbell, Frances is survived by three sons, Walter (Sharon) of Charlottetown P.E.I., Gerard (Susan) of Bedford N.S., and Norbert (Lucille) of Quispamsis N.B. She was grandmother to seven grandchildren, Roger, Kenny, Lisa, Elizabeth, Susanna, Grant and Julie; sister to Ronnie Campbell and Monica Howlett, both of Souris P.E.I.; and aunt to several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) Angus who passed away in May 2006; four brothers, John, Walter, Joseph and Louis; two sisters, Agnes MacPhee and Margaret Beckingham. Frances was a former member of the CWL at St. Joachim's Church and the Simonds Lionettes. Alonzo J. Cormier 1933 - 2008 Alonzo Cormier, formerly of Dieppe, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Moncton, on January 6th, 1933 he was the son of the late Sam and Helene Cormier. Alonzo retired from the CN Yards following many years of service. His passions were harness racing and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Laura in 2007; and daughters, Jane McGrath and Irene. MARCHAND, Faye Olivia MARCHAND, Faye Olivia - 57, Halifax, passed away March 27, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII, with her family by her side, after a battle with cancer. Born in Arichat on November 25, 1950, she was a daughter of Olivia (Joyce) LeBlanc and the late Joseph LeBlanc. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Victor; son, Wayne (Paulette) Samson, Saskatchewan; daughter, Pheobe (Dion) Boudreau, New Brunswick; Dean (Tracy) Marchand, Lorne (Hank) Marchand, Saskatchewan; sisters, Helen (Leon) Boudreau, Lois (Alfred) Boudreau, Petit de Grat; Pauline MacKinnon, Karen LeBlanc, Lower Sackville; Debbie (Dave) Catlin, Winnipeg; brothers, Dennis (Mary) LeBlanc, Vern LeBlanc, Lower Sackville; Keith (Audrey) LeBlanc, New Glasgow; four grandchildren, Tony, Cheyenne, Maykala, Braydon; stepgrandchildren, Matthew, Amber, Deano, Becky, Brett, Kailyn, Corina; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from Cape Breton to Vancouver. She never missed the boys' hockey or baseball games and loved to fish and hunt with her husband and sons. She was always very proud of her daughter, Pheobe, son, Wayne, and Dean and Lorne. They will forever cherish the wonderful memories of Faye spending all of her time and love with them. She loved the time spent with her mother and sisters playing cards and bingo and going out to eat, also her three brothers' many visits to Cape Breton and Halifax, and how she loved her close knit family. A special thank you to the palliative care staff, doctors and nurses of 9B. Besides her parents and husband Anne was predeceased by daughter, Elizabeth Anne Carver; brothers, Ottie, David, Murray, George, Frederick, William, Alden and Alfred Redstone; and sister, Doris Redstone. Anne was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Saint John and Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Fredericton. Anne was also involved in the Ladies Missionary Societies. Par des gestes, des manières, des expressions, nous te sentons tout près. Nous nous surprenons souvent à se demander ce que tu ferais, où tu serais, quels défis tu relèverais. KEMPSTON, Sean Michael - Passed away peacefully on Monday 24, 2008, in his 30th year. Beloved dad of Brooke and Benjamin. Husband of Lisa. Forever cherished and loving son of Dr.Stephen and Maxine Kempston. Special brother of Stephen. Son-in-law of Wayne and Deborah Sutherland. Sean will be greatly missed by his Grandma Thelma Duval of Sudbury, and by his aunts and uncles Maureen (Larry) Darkes, Dr.John (Patricia) Kempston, Martha (Robert) O'Daiskey, and by his dear cousins Roberta (Mike), Jamie (Jody) and their daughter Cameron, Lisa (Darren), Cynthia (Trevor). Predeceased by his grandparents Jack and Vera Kempston and Alfred Duval. Sean will be fondly remembered by extended family and friends. Sean's family received friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, in St. Catharines on Thursday, March 27. Cremation followed visitation. TILLBERG, Mr. Bert - passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ontario with his family at his side on March 25, 2008. He was born, Hilding Mansfred Tillberg, March 22, 1922 in Port Arthur Ontario. He grew up in Ellis, Ontario, served in the Canadian Armed Forces in Europe, and took part in the liberation forces in the Netherlands where he met Els, his wife of 62 years. They married in Vught, Netherlands on April 24, 1945 after which they returned to Canada and raised a family of five. Bert is survived by his wife, Els, his children, Elaine (Edward) Agarand of Kingston, Ontario, Nancy (Mark) Tillberg- Gleghorn of Calgary, Alberta, Kenneth Tilllberg of Ottawa, Ontario, Birget Tozer of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Peter (Nancy) Tillberg of Thunder Bay, Ontario. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Lisa, Erik and Savanah and two great grandchildren, Quinn and Soren. Bert loved travelling and the great outdoors, walking and biking as much as he could. He loved to nurture all wildlife. He was a gentleman through and through. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of St. Joseph's Hospital, Palliative Care Unit for all their support through this difficult time. QUINN, Charles Albert Jerome (Chuck) 27 October 1941 - 24 March 2008 After an intense, three week battle with cancer, our courageous Chuck was sadly taken from us late Monday night. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his soul mate, Ellenore, sons Chad and Orrin, and other loving family members, and comforted with compassionate palliative care. Chuck was admired by all for his generosity, strength, work ethic, tell-it-like-it-is honesty, unique sense of humour and his love and respect for everyone. KELLEY, Fred À Beaconsfield, le 27 mars 2008, à l'âge de 82 ans, est décédé paisiblement, après une longue maladie qu'il a combattue avec courage, grâce et dignité, monsieur Fred Kelley, époux de feu Marylee et père dévoué et affectueux de Geoffrey (Judith Harper), Stephen, David et Mark (Angela Yazbek), grand-père fier de ses petits-enfants Angela, Tess, Gregory, Sara et Marisa de Beaconsfield et Aidan, Isaac, Lucas et Callum de Toronto. Frère attentionné de Helen Morrison, Brian et Sara Kelley. Fred était non seulement un bénévole enthousiasme et dévoué au sein de notre communauté, mais aussi un homme actif dans la politique locale pendant plusieurs années. De loin, son rôle le plus accomplissant a été son travail auprès des patients de la Résidence de soins palliatifs de l'Ouest-de-l'Île et cela, au cours des cinq dernières années.
