BUSHEN, Loran Carl BUSHEN, Loran Carl - 87, West Dublin, Lunenburg Co., passed away March 23, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in West Dublin, he was the son of the late Urban and Annie (Bell) Bushen. He worked for Shell Canada for 27 years. He was a member of West Side United Church, Pentz. Surviving are his daughter, Linda (Ronald) Herman, West Dublin; son, Gary (Maryann), Pinehurst; brother, Earl (Norma) Bridgewater; grandchildren, Tammy Harnish, Reginald, Scott (Krista), Tony (Margo); great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ostin, Cheyann, Angel, Lisa, Gavin, and Lindsey. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mildred; son, Fred. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in West Side United Church, Pentz, Rev. FAHIE, Wallace Edward "Wally" FAHIE, Wallace Edward "Wally" - 78, Lakelands, Hants Co., passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born on August 7, 1929, in Halifax, he was a son of the late John and Frances Etta (Doyle) Fahie. He was a former automotive salesman, having worked with many auto dealers in the Halifax-Dartmouth area. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, and worked as an instructor with the fire department. Wally is survived by his wife of 33 years, the former Phyllis Mary Wolfe; daughters, Robin, Bedford; Lori (Cliff) Kultgen, Othello, Wash.; sons, Anthony "Tony" and Russell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, John, Frank, Wayne, Terry, Ronnie, and Robert; sisters, Edna Sargent, Josephine "Jo" Ferguson; Kaye Fahie; June Greenwood; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Lorraine Shannon. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King St., Windsor, followed by a memorial service in the chapel with Father J.J. MacDonald officiating. GRAY, John C.M. "Mac" GRAY, John C.M. "Mac" - 91, Bridgewater, formerly of Halifax, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Goldboro, he was a son of the late Robert and Tamar (Bolt) Gray. He is survived by his loving wife, Florence; son, Bill (Cynthia), Ottawa, and much loved granddaughter, Bethany, Ottawa. John is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marble Gray, Creston, B.C.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Annie (Roby Hannon/Harold McLean/Harold Lenahan); brothers, Bob (Clara), Bill (Vivian), Cecil (Dot), Walter (Kitty), and Joe. HUBLEY, Donald George HUBLEY, Donald George - 79, Glen Haven, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Glades Lodge, Halifax. Born in Glen Haven, he was a son of the late George and Grace (Boutilier) Hubley. Donald was stricken with polio at the age of 14, leaving him physically disabled but not limited to lobster fishing in the Bay or planting a large vegetable garden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and bowling with the White Caps Seniors Club. He was an avid musician, playing the violin at many of our community events. He was also a member of the 50+ Club. Surviving are sister, Rhoda (Granville) Langille, Glen Haven; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Winfred, and Malcolm; sister, Marion. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, and funeral service Thursday at 11 a.m., both in Ronald A. LOGIE, Donald LOGIE, Donald - The death of Donald Logie of Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen, N.B., formerly of Hampton, N.B., husband of the late of Mildred (Porter) Logie, occurred March 21, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Saint John, the son of the late Edward and Mabel (Ripley) Logie. Donald was employed by the Veterans Land Act for thirty years and the Town of Hampton for eight years. He was a member of Hampton United Church and served on many committees. Donald was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Hampton Branch No. 28, Saint Andrews Society, The Corinthian Lodge No. 13, F. & A.M., Luxor Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Saint John, and Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 149. He is survived by daughters, Heather Ann Hart (David), St. Stephen, N.B.; Lynn E. Richardson (Lorne), Ottawa, Ont.; son, David B. Logie (Kaye), Cambridge; sister, Joan Taylor, Saint John; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandson, Dan. Visitation took take place in Hampton United Church, New Brunswick, on Monday from 12-2 p.m. Funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. in Hampton United Church with Rev. Keith Lyons officiating. Born in Feltzen South, she was a daughter of the late Artemas and Talitha (Wagner) Zinck. During the earlier years of her life, she had been a teacher in the rural areas of Nova Scotia. In later years she had been a field worker for the Canadian Red Cross in the schools of Nova Scotia for many years up until her retirement She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, John Bernard; brothers, Stannage, Orlean, Lawrence, Lorraine, Alexander, Maurice, Willis, Earl; sisters, Beulah Fralick, May Gagnon, Muriel Lowe, Mary Ann (Marion) Conrad. USHER, Margaret Louise USHER, Margaret Louise - 71, Auburn, Kings Co., formerly of Waterville, Kings Co. passed away at home on March 22, 2008. Born in Berwick, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Lulu (Loomer) Foster. Surviving are her son, Glen (Ivy Lee) Weaver, Scarborough, Ont.; daughter, Patty (Ted) Llewellyn, Cambridge Station; grandsons, Rod and Alex; brother, Donald (Glenda) Foster, Grafton; sisters, Janet (Alan Doucette) Lutz, Berwick; Ruth (Ron Martin) Foster, Coldbrook; Norma Giffin, Berwick; sister-in-law, Pat Foster, Stoney Creek, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a stillborn son, Douglas James; brothers, Kenneth and Ronald Foster; sister-in-law, Marilyn Foster. Margaret managed and owned the R. & M. Variety Store in Waterville for 25 years, where she became a friend to all who came into the store. She was an active member of the Kingston United Baptist Church. Her generosity and kindness to others will always be remembered. Margaret will be missed by her best pal, "Rocky" the dog. There will be visitation today from 7-9 p.m. in H.C. AITKEN, Mary Joyce 2008-03-25 Mary Joyce Aitken, age 92 years, resident of Pinewood Court and formerly of 30 Prospect Ave, passed away peacefully on Thursday March, 20 2008 with her family by her side. Mary was born and raised on the family farm on September 10, 1915 in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. In 1943, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in the Maritimes as a parachute packer. In 1945 Mary then moved to Port Arthur and married Ronald G. Aitken. They settled in Sunshine owning and operating the Sunshine Hotel until 1952. Mary later resided in Ignace where she operated the Ignace Hotel until 1968. She continued with working in the hotel business at the Marina Inn, Port Arthur. She was also head cook at the Ortona Legion for many years, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6. Mary was a caring and loving mother and grandmother who was loved by many. She was an avid gardener who spent many hours in her garden growing a variety of vegetables and beautiful flowers. She loved cooking and entertaining, and was famous for her perogies, cabbage rolls and cinnamon buns. She always shared her bounty with family and friends. Those who knew Mary remember her for her generous and sweet nature. Mary was predeceased by her husband Ron in 1985, brothers John, George, Peter, and sisters Helen, Ann and Kay. Mary is survived by sons Bill (Jane) of Sunshine, Ontario, Brooks (Denese), grandchildren Travis, Jessica, Brad and Crystal, and sister Alice of St. Thomas, Ontario. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday March 31, 2008 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 264 Wilson St. with Pastor Bosma presiding. Dane was a form carpenter for Lead Structural Form Work Ltd. for many years. He was a dedicated worker, caring husband, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Kata; sons, Steven and Dennis; daughter, Deanna; daughter-in-law, Amanda; grandson, Alexander; granddaughter, Kaitlin; brother, Marijan; sister-in-law, Sonja; nephews, Ante and Alan; niece, Tanya, and other family members in Croatia. SHILLINGTON, THOMAS W. E. (1932 - 2008) - The death of Thomas Winslow Earl (Tom) Shillington, husband of Lois, of Rockland Dr., Moncton, occurred at his residence on Sunday, March 23, 2008 following a period of failing health. Born in Saint John on March 26, 1932 he was the son of the late Earl Shillington and Helen (Winslow) (Shillington) Jones. Tom had been employed with CN Telecommunications in Saint John and Moncton for many years prior to his retirement. Following retirement Tom was very active in the Christmas Tree Association and he owned and operated Tom's Choose and Cut Christmas Tree Lot in Colpitts Settlement. He was also an avid salmon fisherman. Tom is survived by his wife, Lois (Power); two sons, Thomas Jr. of Moncton and Fred of Colpitts Settlement; one sister, Rita Moore; one brother, John (Audrey) all of Saint John; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one sister, Grace. MURPHY, Gay - (1944-2008) - Gay passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on March 23, 2008. At her side were her loving family and friends. Dad passed away peacefully in the Greater Niagara General Hospital where he had been since May of 2007. He was predeceased by his wife Olga in 1981. Dad left behind his children: - sons Tony (Loucette) and Konstantyn (partner Joanne), daughters Helen Tkach (Ed) and Jania Tibbs (Jim), eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Latisha (Taylor) Morrison. Florence had lived in MacPherson's Mills for most of her married life. She had resided in Thorburn Senior Citizens Apartments since 1995. She was an adherent of Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn. She is survived by sons, John (Elsie), Stellarton; Wayne (Cindy), Halifax; daughters, Jo-Ann (Robert) Rector, Thorburn; Nancy (Karl) Graham, Kenzieville; Sherri, (Tony) Cross, Salem; daughter-in-law, Bonnie; grandchildren, Lisa, John, Karen, Ashley, Wayne Jr., Jeffrey, Bradley, Jeremy, Cameron, Michael, Samantha, Holly, and Taylor; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert, Joseph and William Morrison, all of Union Centre; Edward Morrison, Stellarton; sisters, Ida Cameron and Maude (Calvin) Cameron, both of Coalburn; Faye (Jimmy) MacLean, Union Centre; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Burns Albert Cameron; son, Brian, and sisters, Annie Davis and Jane Kenny. Family flowers only. The family received visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in H. W. CLISH, J. Ernest CLISH, J. Ernest - 71, Valley, Colchester Co., died peacefully after a lengthy illness, on Sunday, March 23, 2008, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, of COPD. Born in Salmon River, Colchester Co., in 1936, he was a son of the late George R. and Flora (Currie) Clish. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Webb; son, Scott; daughter, Annette (Sterling) Downing; grandson, Robert; granddaughters, Sonya and Hailey, all of the Truro area; mother-in-law, Kate Webb, Economy and Truro; brothers, Bert (Karen), Pictou; George (Janice), North River; sisters, Anne (Ross) Wall, Hilden; Faye (Vernon) White, Hilden. He was predeceased by infant son, William Ernest. Ernie's working years were spent in Truro, most of which were for Brookfield Foods. While in good health he enjoyed square dancing and our cottage in Economy. Though ill during most of his retirement, he discovered a love for Intarsia and spent many happy hours in his workshop. He was a member of St. David's United Church, Bible Hill. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today in Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. FRASER, Jessie M. "Jay" FRASER, Jessie M. "Jay" - 103, Windsor, Hants Co., died Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. Born September 29, 1904, in Pinehurst, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Rev. Colin and Mrs. Jane (Phillips) McRae, second eldest of a family of four children now all deceased. She was educated at Mount Allison University from which she graduated in 1931. She subsequently attended McGill University where she obtained the degree of Master of Social Work. She married William Ross Fraser who was a United Church clergyman and later became a professor of philosophy at Sir George William University, now Concordia University in Montreal. Mrs. Fraser was employed by a social service agency in Montreal, and at the time of her retirement in 1970 was a Supervisor of Social Service. Following the death of her husband she moved to Wolfville, and resided there until 1995 when she became a resident of Melville Heights in Halifax. Prior to her death she resided at the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. Mrs. Fraser enjoyed reading and playing bridge. She was a relatively private person despite having many friends. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family as her parents and sisters, Lillian and Bernice (Digby), and Evelyn (Toronto), all predeceased her. She is survived by nephew, Colin (Diana) Purdy, Windsor, and a niece, Jane Hartman, Ottawa. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). He was the owner of M and M Tile, and did work for Nova Tiles and Floors Plus. He enjoyed life to the fullest. Toni was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. KNAPP, Pamela Louise KNAPP, Pamela Louise - 60, Clementsport, passed away March 21, 2008, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with her children by her side. Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Leslie (Smith) Wright. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing darts, camping and spent many years at Camp Arcadie. She loved to dance and was in the Digby School of Dancing. She danced for Princess Margaret. She was a parishioner of St. Edwards Church, Clementsport. She was an associate member of the Annapolis Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 21, she volunteered at the Bethany Bargain Bin in Digby, and was an employee of the Annapolis Royal Save Easy. She is survived by daughter, Kala Knapp, Falmouth; son, Kenneth (Bernadette) Knapp, Margaretsville; stepsons, Brian (Robin) Shorey and Rick (Marilyn) Shorey, both of Granville Ferry; stepdaughters, Vickie (Rick) Smith, Upper Clements; Brenda (Terry) Hamilton, Lequille; grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell and Kate (Tim); great-granddaughter, Lexie; several stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sister, Sister Bonnie, Rossway; brother, Douglas (Beulah), British Columbia; nephews, Tony (Dee) and Patrick (Karna); great-nephew, Spencer. Mom passed away peacefully in Halifax Infirmary, QEII, on Good Friday, March 21, 2008, with family by her side. Born in Halifax December 3, 1915, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Maud (Murphy) Warner. She was the wife of the late Garfield N. MacLeod. She is survived by son, Gary (Marlene); grandson, Bryan (Cindy); grandson, Ian, and great-grandson, John Garfield "Jack". Also surviving are brothers, Francis, Walter, Ralph, Ernest, Victor and Alan; sisters, Lillian, Joan, Joyce, Theresa and Marion, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her stepmother, Sadie; brothers, John, Elmer, Charlie, Edward, Harold, Roy, Ronald, Gordon, and her sister, Helen. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Coming from a large family, she had a dry sense of humour and a colourful side that made her special. She loved the honesty and the innocence of children. Funeral mass will be held in Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Spryfield on Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m., Father Rob Arsenault officiating. Reception to follow in the church basement. It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our father, son, brother and friend, Bill, who succumbed to his illness on Thursday, March 20, 2008. Born September 18, 1952, in Halifax, he was a son of Parker Norman Regan and Betty Joan Regan. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying activities such as, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a prominent businessman in Windsor, most notably at the skidoo dealership, R.D. Holmes. He was also known for his very creative sense of humour. Bill is survived by his loving children, Karley Lynn, Calgary, Alta.; Barrett William, Ellershouse; Kelsey Lauren, Halifax. He is also survived by his parents, Parker (Jean) Regan, Windsor; and Betty Joan Regan, Halifax; brother, Bruce (Debbie), Windsor; and sister, Barbara, Toronto, Ont.; also niece, Nataly, and nephew, Mathew. SPAFFORD, Barbara Joan SPAFFORD, Barbara Joan - 72, Delray Beach, Fla., and Halifax, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2008. Barbara was an avid gardener, toiling many hours at her home on Armview Avenue. Her gardens were admired by many passersby. The boaters on the Northwest Arm had a spectacular view of the property's water-facing gardens. She spent many hours on the interior and exterior of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and the Ashburn Golf Club, gardening and arranging floral displays. Barbara was a member of the Garden Club of America and enjoyed home and garden hours to the Cotswolds in the United Kingdom. She was awarded a diploma in flower arranging by the Jane Parker Floral School, London. Barbara was a keen golfer and played the game with the natural enthusiasm she showed for life. She was the ladies club champion of the Country Club of Florida in 1995 and the St. Andrew's Club in 2007, in addition to winning the St. Andrew's Putting Championship three times. Together with her husband, Spaff, a foundation was established with the Royal Canadian Golf Association - The Barbara and Elliott Spafford Scholarship for the benefit of an Atlantic Canadian golfer pursing post secondary opportunities. A lover of dogs, she took great pride in the many blue ribbons she and her black Labrador retrievers won at shows in the Halifax area. A generous supporter of King's-Edgehill School in Windsor, Barbara and her husband were responsible for the construction of the campus aquatic centre, known as the Spafford Pool. Barbara was an active supporter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Rally for the Cure, a cause very special to her. She is survived by her husband, Elliott; daughter, Heather Jean McInnes, Falmouth; son, David Russell McInnes (Karen), Halifax; stepdaughter, Margot Spafford, Halifax; her beloved grandsons, Scott James Forrest, Peter Shawn Forrest, Matthew David McInnes and Mark Peter McInnes, and stepgranddaughter, Layne Spafford; and her brothers, Albert and Wilfred Bennett. A memorial service will be held in Halifax in the late spring. SAULNIER, J. Raymond SAULNIER, J. Raymond - 79, Halifax, passed away March 23, 2008, in Glades Lodge, Halifax. Born in Meteghan, Raymond was a son of the late Lionel and Edith (Moulaison) Saulnier. He will be missed by his family. He was a barber for 42 years in Halifax. He loved fishing, bowling, the outdoors, walking his dog, and he also coached hockey. SCHURMAN, Mary Kathryn SCHURMAN, Mary Kathryn - 101, passed away March 23, 2008, in Saint Vincent's Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Murray MacPherson and Margaret Jane (Sutherland) MacPherson Walsh. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a former resident of Truro and Middleton. She was a graduate of Normal College, Truro, and taught in many Nova Scotia Communities, retiring in Middleton. She was a life member of the Clan Macpherson and a life member of the Annapolis Valley Historical Society; also an Honorary Life Member of the Alumni Association of Nova Scotia Teachers' College. Mary was an avid reader and a music enthusiast. She was active in church work and her community. Surviving are nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by all, especially nieces and nephews, Jackie (Ron) Lohnes; Heather Dionne, Marc, Ben, Mary and Karen Lohnes, to whom she was very special. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Ambrose Schurman; a sister and a stepbrother. She was a member of St. John's United Church, Halifax. Respecting her wishes, her body has been donated to science in care of the Anatomy Department at Dalhousie University. A committal service will take place at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. A special thank you to the caring staff of Saint Vincent's Nursing Home.
