BYRNE, June At the Montfort Hospital on Saturday, February 16, 2008 in her 82nd year with her family at her side. Cherished wife of Jim Byrne. Loving mother of Andrew (Mary), Christopher (Laura), Kathleen (Allan), Robert and Michael; devoted grandmother of Celia Byrne. June graduated in Honours Chemistry from the University of Toronto and worked at AECL, Chalk River, and demonstrated in the Chemistry Labs at Carleton University ("If you want to know what's going on, ask Mrs. Byrne.") In the past, she was very active with the Gloucester Senior Adults Centre; she was a recipient at the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for her work as a volunteer. Friends are invited to visit at the Church of the Epiphany, 1290 Ogilvie Rd. on Thursday, February 21 from 10:30 a.m. until Service time at 11:30 a.m. which will be followed by a reception at the Church. CONDREN, Eleanor Ruth (Green) The passing of Eleanor Ruth (Green) Condren, wife of Hilton Condren, husband for more than 54 years, of Fredericton, occurred on February 14, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was born on August 7, 1936 in Tracey Mills. Eleanor retired after 20 years of employment as an Accountant for Extendicare Ltd. She was hired in Oshawa, ON and then transferred to Halifax in 1984. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Wanda Alison Condren of Quebec; three brothers, Harold Norval Green of Douglas, Darrel Green (Bernice) of Stanley and Lawrence Green (Sharon) of Cross Creek; three sisters, Caroleigh Passant (Alan) of Whitby, ON, Dianne Horsnell (Gary) of Nashwaak Bridge, Cathy VanHorne (Gary) of Fredericton; several nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Steven Mark Condren in 1991 and Duane Pearl Condren in 1992; one brother, David LeRoy Green in 1987 and one sister, Judith Ann (Green) Waugh. There will be no visitation by request. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in Bristol Free Baptist Cemetery at a later date. PETTIT, David Brian June 17, 1945 - February 16, 2008 With his wife Joan and daughter Karen by his side, Dave passed away peacefully in Ottawa on Saturday, February 16, 2008, two rich and adventurous years after being diagnosed with colon cancer. He was a loving, caring, and dedicated husband for more than 40 wonderful years, and a beloved father to Karen (Adam) and the late Mark. Dave was predeceased by his parents Sherwin and Lucy and was a loving brother of Mike, Keith, and the late John. He will be forever remembered by his two grandchildren, Alexander and Lindsay, who always made him smile. Dave's wisdom and guidance will always be treasured by his son-in-law, Adam. He will also be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Following a career in finance with IBM and Canada Post, Dave retired four years ago. His inner strength and the chemo treatment enabled Dave to continue to find the joys in life. He spent countless hours at the cottage and found pleasure in exploring new endeavours: touring in the RV which replaced their 140-year old log cabin, "playing" with his lathe, and researching his family tree. He is remembered by all who knew him as kind, gentle, and hard-working. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Wednesday, February 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. SIMEY, Evelyn Evelyn passed away on Saturday, February 16th after a long struggle with cancer, she was an exceptionally strong person who fought courageously with her illness. At the Family Medical Clinic, General Hospital, they called her "The Miracle Woman". She leaves behind her devoted husband Cecil, who was also her best friend, after 61 years of marriage and her daughter Kerry Lynn, the love of her life. Many thanks to Dr. Montpetit for such compassionate care and many thanks to the staff of Ward B-5th floor of the Civic Hospital for their care and concern. ST. PIERRE, Gerald Hector Suddenly at Winchester Hospital on Monday, February 18, 2008 "Gerry" Hector St. Pierre of Morrisburg at the age of 69. Gerry was a carpenter by trade and worked at Upper Canada Village. His hobbies were woodworking and golfing as well as driving for Upper Canada Motors. Loving husband of Irene (Menard) St. Pierre of Morrisburg. Dear father of Nicole (Thomas Moriarty) Robinson of Chesterville, Suzanne (John) Miczki of Ottawa, Paul (Tracey) of Shanly and Marc (Michelle) of Morrisburg. Devoted grandfather of Michael, Shawn, Marc, Devin, Ashley, Ryan, Meghan, Victoria and great-grandfather of Spencer and Todd and godsons Donald and David. Sadly missed by brothers Edward of Alberta and Ronald "Butch" (Pauline) of Sudbury, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. WARNOCK, JOHN WESLEY - This kind, gentle, and quiet man passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 17, 2008 at the age of 86. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Lillian F. (Johnson) Warnock of 71 years. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late John and Evelyn (Nice) Warnock. He was employed with the Canadian Pacific Railway as a trainman for 42 years. At his retirement, he moved to Oak Point, N.B. where he purchased a small farm and woodlot and raised beef cattle for a number of years. In earlier years he was a member of the YMCA's fitness club where he participated in running and earned a brown belt in Judo. He enjoyed skating in later years, and in his seventies took up sailing and boating on the Saint John River. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, New Brunswick Branch #22 for fifty years. He attended St. Paul's Anglican Church at Oak Point and served as Cub Master of the 1st Greenwich Cub Pack. He was loved and respected by his family of two daughters, Carol (Dr. Ronald) Craig of Quispamsis and Dorothy (Richard) McFadden of Oak Point; one sister, Vera (Herbert) Swazey of Fredericton; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and the extended family of his late son John (Irene) Warnock of Harvey, which included seven step-children and step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by son James in infancy; son John; infant grandson John; and his brothers, Rupert and Percy Warnock. By request there will be no visitation. A Memorial service will take place at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 2:30 pm followed by a reception in the Fallsview Family Reception Centre. MARTIN, ROBERT J. - The death of J. Robert Martin of Miramichi, NB., husband of Lois (Morell) Martin, occurred on Feb 17th, 2008 at the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home. He was born in Chatham, NB., in 1926, the son of the late John S. Martin and Mary (Cassidy) Martin. He was educated in local schools, graduating from St. Thomas College in Chatham. He went on to Dalhousie University, Halifax, where he received a degree in Law. He practiced law in Chatham for 30 years. During this time he was active in many organizations, including the Hotel Dieu and Mount St. Joseph Board of Directors, the Board of Trade, The Miramichi Agricultural Exhibition Association and the Board of Directors of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home. He held various offices including chairman. He was president of the "Friends of St. Thomas" a group which endeavored to keep St. Thomas University in Chatham. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1956-1960, councilor of the Town of Chatham and was the Mayor from 1967-1971. He had also been a member of the Northumberland County Council. He was made Freeman of the Town of Chatham in 1993. He was appointed a Provincial Court Judge in 1982 and retired 10 years later. He and his wife enjoyed eight winters in Naples, Florida and two winters in Victoria B.C. before his health deteriorated. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, J. Stephen Martin (Sandra Barss), Halifax, N.S., Frederick C. Martin (Wanda), Victoria, B.C., Dr. Geoffrey R. Martin (Dr. Erin Steuter), Sackville, N.B., Andrew P. Martin of Campbellton, N.B.; two granddaughters, Charlotte Steuter-Martin and Marilla Steuter-Martin, Sackville, N.B.; one brother, Msgr. George W. Martin, Saint John, NB; one sister, Anna McKendy of Nepean, Ont; one brother-in-law, George W. Morell (Ethel) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; several nieces and nephew's. He was predeceased by two brothers, John D. Martin and Dr. Frank Martin; sisters, Molly, Edith, Sister Marion Martin and Catherine Martin. Gerald Raymond Whalen 1929 - 2008 Gerald Raymond Whalen passed away at the Saint John Regional hospital on Monday, February 18th, 2008 after a lengthy illness which he bore with quiet courage. Gerald was born in Picadilly on April 30th, 1929, the youngest of the family of the late Thomas Whalen and Theresa (O'Leary) Whalen and grew up on the farm adjacent to the Sussex Golf Course which his grandfather Daniel had purchased in the eighteen hundreds and which included the DeCourcy Lake together with the property now owned by the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources. After his father passed away in 1950, he and his brother Carson operated the farm until 1959, when they sold it and moved to Saint John. In Saint John he worked for a time for the CPR. It was while there he purchased his house at 386 Lowell St., which he generously shared with his mother and two of his siblings. He then turned to carpenter work, mainly building family homes. He remained in that occupation for the rest of his working life. Gerald was a member of the carpenters union and a long standing parishioner of the Assumption Catholic Church. He is survived by his sisters, Mary and Teresa, both of Saint John; and by his brother, Fred of Sussex; and by his nephews, John McGinnis (Beth) of Fredericton, and Tom McGinnis of Saint John's NL; and his nieces, Mary (Don) Smith, Paula (Pat) McDonough, Geraldine (Don) Newman, Eleanor McGinnis, Christine (Pat) Kelly, Caroline (Mike) Ryan all of Saint John, and Carmel (Kevin) McCabe of Halifax. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Carson; and his sister, Rita McGinnis; and by an infant brother, Thomas. O'DONNELL, VIVIAN ISABELLE Vivian passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB on February 17th, 2008 surrounded by the love of family and friends. MCMILLAN, LOUISE GERTRUDE At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Sunday, February 17, 2008 Louise Gertrude McMillan of Fredericton passed away at the age of 88. Born in Grand Falls, NB she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ellen (White) West and wife of the late Patrick McMillan. She was a former member of the Catholic Women's League in various areas. Louise was an avid quilter and she enjoyed other crafts. She loved animals, especially horses. She is survived by three sons, John of New Maryland, George of Mazerolle Settlement and Charles (Dawn) of Charters Settlement; two daughters, Patricia Brewer (Mike) of Douglas and Virginia Franklin of Kelowna, BC; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. ROONEY, LORRAINE NORMA - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lorraine Rooney, wife of Brian Rooney of the Kingston Peninsula, NB, occurred on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Gagetown, NB, on May 26, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (Smith) Boone. Lorraine loved her family and friends. She loved to spend time outside gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, and played bingo in support of the Animal Rescue League. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Brian; her son, Wade Warren (Marilyn) of Evandale; her daughters, Colleen Rooney (Daniel Anstis) of the Kingston Peninsula, and Loretta Boyle (Brian) of Morna; five grandchildren, Alex and Kyle Boyle, Karly, Kurtis and Dylan Warren; her brothers, Reginal (Judy), Clifford (Blondine), and Junior (Pat) Boone; her sisters, Joan Connelly, and Yvonne Stella (Fred Briggs); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Eldon, Covett, and Hugh Boone. DANN, GLENDON JOHN - The death of Glendon J. Dann of Erb's Cove, NB occurred suddenly on February 15, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was the son of Nancy (White) Dann and the late John Dann. He was born in Saint John and was a vendor of the original Kingston Farmer's Market. He worked at farming and lumbering most of his life. Glen made sure his nephews and nieces had lots of part-time work at the original Farmer's Market and splitting wood. He was a beloved son, father and grandfather. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Dann of Kingston, NB; two sons, Robert John Dann, Erb's Cove, NB and Jeffrey Lee Dann (Jennifer), Kingston Creek, NB; one sister, Bonnie Turner (Tony), Kingston, NB; three brothers, Ronnie Dann (Margaret), Kingston, NB, Malcolm Dann (Margot), Kingston, NB, Allan Dann (Heidi), PEI; two grandsons, Carson and Connor Dann; three nieces, Kendra Dann, Jennifer Howarth and Robin Dann and four nephews, Jordon and Mitchell Dann and Jonathan and Reuben Turner; several aunts and uncles. CHOWN, MARGARET ELIZABETH - The death of Margaret Elizabeth (McConnachie) Chown, age 60, wife of Beverley Chown, occurred at the Sussex Health Centre on Friday, February 15, 2008. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of Dorothy (Bettle) McConnachie, the late Alexander McConnachie. She is survived by her husband, Bev; her mother, Dorothy; two sons, Jeff and Catherine of Iqaluit, NU and Brian of Iqaluit, NU; one granddaughter, Lena; two sisters, Sandra and Jim McFarland and Nancy McConnachie of McDonald's Corner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. BASQUE, DOREEN M. - After a couragous battle with cancer, the death of Doreen Mary Basque, of Saint John, NB, wife of William Porter, occurred on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John she was a daughter of Clarence and Claudette Basque. Doreen was employed with Wyndham Worldwide Canada, and at the Irving Building as a custodian. She attended St. Pius X Church and enjoyed doing crafts. Besides her husband and parents, Doreen is survived by son, Jason Basque; daughter, Sarah Basque, both of Saint John; brothers, Kenneth (Sheri) Basque and Leonard (Shelley); sisters, Debbie (Dwayne) Bustard, Yvonne Basque and Laura Basque all of Saint John; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. STEELE, James Lees - (Born Dundee, Scotland, Immigrated to Canada 1956) Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the I.O.O.F. Home, Barrie on Sunday, February 17, 2008 in his 98th year. Loving husband of the late Alice (nee Smith) for 70 years. Dear father of Jim and his wife Anne of Flinton and David and his wife Carol of Barrie. Grandfather of Ewen (Lisa), Eric (Tami), Doug (Janet) and Scott (Sherri). Greatgrandfather of Ainsley, Breanne, David of Toronto and Matthew, Jason and Shannon of Barrie. Survived by a sister Dolly, predeceased by brothers Hugh, Jock, Alex, David and sisters Ann and Maisie of Forfar, Scotland. Jim was the custodian at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church for many years and more recently a member of the Essa Road Presbyterian Church. He was an avid gardener and past member of the Sons of Scotland Lovat Camp Barrie. Life member of Forfar, Scotland Kilwinning Lodge #90 Masonic Order. During W.W.II, he served with the Black Watch R.H.R. (UK) in France, Gibralter and Burma. Doug was a life long resident of Saint John and had been employed for many years as a machinist with the Saint John Iron Works. JOHNSTON, Ruth – (1920-2008) – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth on February 18, 2008. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Carolyn (Jim) and Margaret (Chuck), grandchildren Carrie (Mark), Lesley (John), Lori (Rodney) and Deborah, great- grandchildren Aidan, Lauren, Keegan, Ashleigh, James and William. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Joseph (Joe) Johnston. Predeceased by her sisters Geneva, Elva and brother Harold. Ruth was born in Chippawa to Jessie and Harold Ricker and will be remembered by nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Mom was devoted to the care of her family and greatly enjoyed her hobbies of knitting and weaving. Ruth also enjoyed being a member of the Chippawa Women's Institute and the Women's Missionary group. PIHACH, George - In his 95th year at the Welland Hospital, George died peacefully in the presence of his children Vivian and David. He has gone to join his beloved wife of 63 years Mary; who was his traveling companion, navigator and polka partner. He lived 30 years in the village of Fenwick, visiting friends and neighbours on his trusty scooter. Born on a farm on Pihach Street in Pelham, he farmed for over 50 years. He was known as a successful pig farmer also raising geese, turkeys, ducks and chickens. For over six decades, the Pihach family ran a weekly egg and farm produce home delivery service in Welland. He served his community as a respected councilman in Pelham Township for 18 years. George was strongly proud of his Croatian heritage and his roots in Danja Stubica. He loved motorcycles, fast cars, fishing, dogs and especially his family. Predeceased by his oldest son George, wife Mary, brother Louie and sister Vada. Left to cherish his memory are daughter Vivian Stevenson (Art) of Gig Harbor, Washington and son David of Thorold; eight grandchildren Karey (Randy), Amy (Bob), Michael, Adam, Lindsay, Chelsea, Craig (Becca) and Dayna; five great grandchildren Natalie, Katie, Liam, Brianna and Emily; four sisters Margaret, Jenny, Stephanie (Guy), Ruby. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Woodlands of Sunset where George was a resident for his last two years, the nursing staff of three south of Welland Hospital and his amazing family doctor, Joanna Hope. RASO, Domenic - After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Domenic passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 17th, 2008 in his 89th year. Her smile lit up her face and warmed the hearts of all who knew her.
