CARTIER, Gordon “Gordie” Charles - age 44 of Dresden passed away Friday February 1, 2008 at Chatham Kent Health Alliance Sydenham Campus Wallaceburg. Born in Sarnia son of the late Rufus and Violet (Richie) Cartier. Survived by sisters, brothers and in-laws: Rose M. Saunders of Dresden, Ron S. Saunders of Sarnia, Annette Benjamin of Dresden, Leona Cartier of Strathroy, Bernie and Shirley Cartier of Dresden, Rosaire and Nancy Cartier of Wallaceburg, Theresa Whitmarsh of Chatham, Evelyn and Doug Charron of Ridgetown, Cecilia Bury and Tom Buller of Kitchener, Dennis and Tammy Cartier of Ridgetown, Norman Cartier and Alice Zmuda of Chatham, Stella Round of Ingersoll, Ruthann Cartier of Chatham, Eddy Cartier of Chatham, Michael Cartier and Sue Claridge of Chatham. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Yvonne Finn (1916-2008) INKERMAN FERRY - Aux Résidences Mgr-Chiasson de Shippagan, le vendredi 1er février 2008, à l’âge de 91 ans et trois mois, est décédée Yvonne Finn, épouse de feu Alexandre Finn, domiciliée aux Résidences Mgr-Chiasson, mais autrefois d’Inkerman Ferry. Née à Bas-Caraquet le 29 octobre 1916, elle était fille de feu Mathilde Lebouthillier et de feu Elizée Gionet. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants qu’elle aimait, une fille, Edith; deux fils: Rhéal (Délia Haché) et Alexandre (Odette Landry), Georgine Brideau qu’elle considérait comme sa fille; un gendre, Fernand Gionet, tous d’Inkerman Ferry; deux petits-enfants qu’elle chérissait: Chantal Finn (Joey Losier) de Cornwall, Ont., et Michel Finn (Raphaëlle Deraspe) de Kingston, Ont.; une belle-soeur, Antonia Gionet de Bas-Caraquet, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Une fille, Hedwidge (27 août 2003); ses soeurs: Justine, Geneviève et Léontine, ainsi que ses frères: Alexis, Lévis et Joseph, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. Mme Finn était la dernière personne vivante de sa famille immédiate. Les visites se feront à compter de 19h, le lundi 4 février, à la Maison funéraire Bulger de Shippagan. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Michel d’Inkerman, le mardi 5 février, à 16h. Heures de visites: le lundi 4 février, de 19h à 21h et le mardi 5 février, de 14h jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles. NEWCOMBE, Edmund Peter Q.C. 1924 to 2008 On Thursday, January 31st, at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in his eighty third year. Dear husband of Lois (Whillans) and very beloved father of Alex, Jane and John. He will also be greatly missed by his sister Elizabeth Mayo and all her family as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter was born in Ottawa on July 23rd , 1924, son of E.F. Newcombe, K.C. and Jessy Newcombe and grew up in Ottawa. He was educated at Ashbury College, then McGill University. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. After graduating from Osgoode Hall, he joined the law firm of Gowling, MacTavish, Watt, Osborne and Henderson in Ottawa, now Gowlings LLP, where he carried out his litigation practice and mentoring, for fifty years. He was a life-time member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, a member of Advocates' Society, a Fellow and past provincial Chairman of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and a member and past President of the County of Carleton Law Association. He was very actively engaged in working with his community and charitable organizations, including the Victorian Order of Nurses, the John Howard Society, the United Way, the Council of the Village of Rockcliffe Park and its School Board, and the Ashbury College Board of Governors. His favourite activities included his time at the cottage, sailing on Grand Lake, and cross-country skiing in winter. His lifelong love of history, the law, and his whimsical sense of humour manifested itself in many lively conversations with family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 6th, at 11:00 am at St. David and St. Martin Presbyterian Church, 444 St. Laurent Blvd., Ottawa. SYME, Rev. Robert Alexander On February 4, 2008, The Rev. Robert Alexander Syme died peacefully at his home in Deep River, after a long and valliant battle with colon cancer. Bob is survived by his mother Anne, his wife, Ruth and their children Alison 9Marty Sulek) of Farmland, Indiana, and Christopher (Melissa Greiner), Hilary (Craig Swaby), Peter, and Matthew (Elizabeth Thorpe) of Toronto. He will be much missed by grandchildren Riehl, Oscar, Alexander, Julian, Caleb, Jamal, Tia and Emma; by his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Beth and by his many nephews and nieces, in-laws and cousins. He was a faithful servant of his Lord through his calling to the Presbyterian Church in Canada, first as a lay leader; then in 1977 he graduated from McGill and Presbyterian College in Montreal. He was ordained and served until his retirement from pastoral ministry in 2005. A Memorial service will be conducted in the Deep River Community Church on Friday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. In memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Deep River Community Church would be gratefully appreciated. FOSTER, Rosemary 2008-02-04 Rosemary Foster of Thunder Bay passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the age of 86. Born in England on November 26, 1921 Rose came to Canada in 1949 settling first in Niagara Falls Ontario moving to Nipigon then to the Thunder Bay area. Though her work history was mainly in the food service industry her last years of work prior to retiring were spent at the Salvation Army Florence Booth Home and the City of Thunder Bay Crisis House. She had a love of opera music and was an accomplished organist and pianist in her younger years. Rose was predeceased by George Foster Sr. in 1983, her parents John and Mary Pender, sister and brother in law Doreen and Tom Machin, brother in law Ernie Smith, son in law Lloyd Simmons and a brother in infancy. She is survived by her sister Kathleen Smith of Niagara Falls, her daughters, Leonie (Omer) Belisle, Nipigon, Kathleen (Alan) Kartinen, Thunder Bay, Eileen (Bruce) Crozier, Kakabeka Falls and Martha Simmons of Red Rock her sons, John (Ann) Manitoba, Michael (Mary), Florida, Colin Thunder Bay, Kevin (Lori) Saskatchewan and George Jr. of Alberta. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada, England and the USA. According to Rosemary’s wishes cremation has taken place and funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Church celebrated by Rev. Al Campeau. Interment will follow at a later time in Mountain View Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

CRUPI, Francesco 2008-02-04 Mr. Francesco Crupi, age 89 years, a resident of Grandview Lodge, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Sunday, February 3, 2008. Francesco was born in Siderno Marina Reggio Calabria, Italy and lived there until 1949 when he immigrated to Fort William. He worked for Sask Wheat Pool until his retirement in 1983. His home, family and especially his garden were very important to him. He is survived by his sons Michael (Marina), Angelo (Tina), Peter (Lucy/Christine) and Jim, grandchildren Tanya Newman (Jamie), Jessica, Natalie, Vanessa, Christopher, Frankie, Daniel and Sabrina, great granddaughter Leia, sisters Nina (Michael) Crupi, Natalina Minnella, Rosa Lenardo, sisters-in-law Theresa Commisso, Angelina Crupi, brothers-in-law Joseph (Gina) Commisso. As well numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive here and in Schreiber, Toronto, Calgary, Springfield Mass; and Italy. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Assunta, father-in-law Angelo Commisso, brothers Carmelo, Cosimo, Dominic and Guiseppe, sisters Teresa Minnella and Maria Commisso. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in St. Dominic’s Church at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lapolla c.s.. CRISPINO, Brenda 2008-02-04 Mrs. Brenda Crispino, age 59 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away at her residence on Friday, February 1, 2008. Brenda was born in Fort William and has resided here all of her life. She was very active in the community through her volunteer efforts. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick‘s Cathedral. Brenda is survived by her husband Ralph, daughter Theresa, sister Francine Fedun, brother Alan Hendricks and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Theresa and Stephen Hendricks. ADAMS, Gordon 2008-02-04 It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Gordon Adams on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the T.B.R.H.S.C. He was born in Port Arthur on October 2, 1934 and attended Jumbo Gardens School. Gordie was employed by Bennett‘s Bakery, Port Arthur P.U.C, and retired from Vulcan Machinery in 1987. He enjoyed watching sports on T.V., especially the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and NASCAR Racing. He was very involved in local sports coaching t-ball with both the Fort William Nationals and Port Arthur Nationals, serving as a goal judge at P.A. Arena and Fort William Gardens as well as driving stock car for a few years. These were happy times watching his son Gordie develop a love for sports. Over the past few years he looked forward to his Tuesday McDonald‘s Coffee Club and driving for Meals On Wheels. Left to mourn are his wife of 47 years Jeanne, and son Gordie. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Lil Fortes and her husband Vic, brothers Arnold, John and his wife Rose, and Matt and his wife Helen. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Archdeacon Mark S. Conliffe presiding. The service will be complete in the chapel with a reception to follow in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. KEARY, EDITH MARY - Edith Mary Keary, 93, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Saturday February 2, 2008. She was the wife of the late James Robert Keary. Edith was born in Saint John, NB in 1914, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Herbert) Golding Small. She was a homemaker and an employee of Centrecare until she retired in 1979. Her greatest love and joy was all her family. HARRIOTT, DERICK RONALD (BON) - The death of Derick Ronald (Bon) Harriott, husband of Margaret Anne (Lord) Harriott, of 21 Alexandra Cres. St. Andrews N.B., occurred at the Charlotte Co. Hospital, on Sunday February 3, 2008. Born in Middlesex, England, Bon was a son of the late Alfred L., and Annie (Brown) Harriott, he came to Canada in 1940. He was an Electrician. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of 51 Years; a son, John.K. Harriott, of St Andrews,N.B.; one daughter, Deborah J. (Dale Clarke), of Grand Prairie, Alberta; four brothers, Lennox Harriott, of Fairvale, N.B., Alfred Harriott, of Dartmouth, N.S., Frank.E. Harriott, of Fredericton, N.B., and Hugh Harriott, of Gondola Point, N.B.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by one brother, Cyril. BROWN, GERARD PAUL - of Woodstock passed away at Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville on Saturday, February 02, 2008, at the age of 43. Gerard is survived by his mother, Royce M. Brown of Woodstock; three brothers, Terry Brown of Woodstock, Darin Brown and his wife Kimberley of Woodstock, Douglas Brown and his wife Julie of Nackawic; one sister, Cindy Lawrence and her husband, Andrew of Woodstock; one Aunt, Dianne Brown (Tom) of Saint John; a longtime friend, Barbara MacArthur of Saint John; and a brother, Dwayne Miller of Saint John. Gerard was pre-deceased by his father, Robert D.Brown on December 5, 2002. Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB, with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11am. from Scott Funeral Home Chapel. The Venerable Walter Williams will be officiating, with interment in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery, at a later date.
