Marie Claudia "Anita" Phillips 1947 - 2008 Anita Phillips, 60, of Irishtown, passed away surrounded by her family at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, February 1, 2008. Born in Toronto, she is the daughter of Yvette (Doucette) Brush and the late Samuel Edgar Brush. Anita was a movie buff and enjoyed singing, dancing and was a collector of music. A loving and caring wife, mother, daughter and sister, she will be deeply missed by her husband of 36 years, Eric Phillips; her son, Dave and his wife, Michelle Phillips of Riverview; her mother, Yvette Brush of Whitby, On; brother, Edward Brush and his wife, Carolynn of Oshawa, On; sister, Deanna Young and her husband, Robert of Peterborough, On; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation is at the Riverview Funeral Home, Pine Glen Rd. on Monday, February 4, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00pm The funeral service will be held at Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 1:30 pm with Marlene Phillips officiating. Patricia Lila Lee SACKVILLE, NB - Patricia Lila Lee passed away January 25, 2008 at Sackville Memorial Hospital surrounded by loving friends and students who supported her through her short illness. Professor emeritus Lee was a highly respected singer and musician who taught voice in the Music Department of Mount Allison University from 1982 to 1999. Patricia was born in 1934 in Odessa, Washington to Leslie Ward Lee, Supt of Schools, and Zella Green, a music instructor. Prior to joining the Mount Allison faculty Ms Lee received her Masters degree in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. After moving to New York City in 1960, she soloed with the Amato Opera Theatre, was accepted into the Metropolitan Opera's Young Company, which toured the U.S. and Mexico, and joined the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera when it opened its new venue at Lincoln Center. In addition, Ms Lee taught voice privately in Sackville and also Amherst, Nova Scotia. Surviving are her half-sister, Margaret Fea; nephews, Daniel, David and Ronald Lee and Thomas Fea; nieces, Lori Gilmore, Kathy Grey and Barbara Hull; and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her parents, L.W. and Zella Lee; a brother, Robert S. Lee; and half-brother, Leslie W. Lee. Cremation has taken place under the supervision of Jones Funeral Home, Sackville (364-1300) and burial will be beside her parents in Spokane, WA. By her request there will be no funeral or visitation. However, there is a reception on Tuesday, 4:30 to 6:30, for friends, guests and former colleagues at the Mount Allison University President's Cottage. A scholarship fund will be set up. JONES, VELLA BLANCHE (BURTT) The death of Vella Blanche (Burtt) Jones, wife of the late Glenwood Jones, of Burtts Corner, NB, occurred on February 2, 2008 at York Manor Nursing Home. Born on April 24, 1911 in Burtts Corner, NB, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Ora (Cooke) Burtt. Vella was a member of the Burtts Corner Church of Christ and was formerly a member of the choir and taught Sunday school for many years, also she was the past Secretary/Treasurer for fifty-five years and enjoyed helping with the children's Christmas pageants. She was also a member of the Burtt's Corner Ladies Progressive Conservative Group and past President of both the Burtt's Corner Senior Robin's Group and the Ladies Sewing Circle. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. One of Vella's most cherished memories was attending one of the Queen's Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace in 1989. She is survived by her niece, Janet Jones (Aulden), Priscilla (wife of special nephew Douglas who died in May 2004); and several other nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Vella was also predeceased by her sisters, Gladys Gilbey, Aletha Burtt, Bernice Gilby, Freda MacDonald, Eva Mahar, Lola Burtt; and brothers, Douglas, Gerald, Gifton and Douglas. Visitation will take place at Burtts Corner Church of Christ on Monday February 4, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from the church on Tuesday February 5, 2008, at 2pm with Pastor Graham Crandall officiating. Interment will take place at the Burtts Corner Cemetery, at a later date. She will also be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews. Nancy graduated from Victoria Public Hospital Nursing School in Fredericton in 1965 and then used these skills and knowledge to raise her family. She was an active member of the Mactaquac Baptist Church and was involved in many areas of the ministry. Nancy daily demonstrated her love of the Lord. She particularly enjoyed the fellowship of the Ladies Morning Out and Mary Love ABW Group. She looked forward to getting together with the Keswick Ridge Quilters to work on new projects. A celebration of Nancy's life will take place at the Kingswood Lodge, 31 Kingswood Park, Fredericton, NB (Off Hanwell Rd.) on Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, all are welcome and refreshments will be served. BLAIR (AOCA), Robert (Bob) George 1944 - 2008 - On Saturday, February 2nd, 2008, Bob passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, after a courageous four-year battle with colorectal cancer, in his 63rd year. He was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on March 13th, 1944, to parents W.R.N. (Buck) and Audrey (nee Cooke) Blair. Bob is survived by his wife Virginia (Ginny) (nee Roberts) and his daughter Kathryn (Miriam and grandson Kameron) of Ottawa, brothers Richard (Carolyn) of Winnipeg and John (Patricia) of Calgary, and nieces and nephews Karen, Robert, Jade (Louis) and Caitlin. He will be missed by close friend and business associate Wendy Grant. Bob was a graduate of Graphic Design from the Ontario College of Art. After a brief time in Ottawa at Campeau Corporation he and Ginny moved to Cornwall in 1970 where he became a Teaching Master and then Chair of Graphic Design at St. Lawrence College for 25 years. In 1994 he, Ginny and Wendy purchased Cornwall City Press. His passions included antique automobiles, painting, fishing and spending time at the home he and Ginny built in Martintown with his family, pets and friends. In keeping with Bob's wishes a funeral will not be held, but rather friends and family can meet for a celebration of his life at Cornwall City Press, 700 Campbell Street, Cornwall on Saturday, February 9, 2008 between 1:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon. Raymond J. Leger 1929-2008 A l'Hôpital régional Dr G.-L. Dumont, le mardi 4 février 2008, à l'âge de 78 ans, est décédé Raymond 'Ray' Joseph Leger, domicilié à Moncton, rue Fernwood. Né à Moncton le 25 mai 1929, il était le fils adopté de feu Arthur et Florence (Belliveau) Leger. Il laisse dans le deuil deux filles: Jeannine Berube (Ed) de Scoudouc, Doris Ayles (Adelard) de Moncton; trois fils: Paul (Fernande) et Tony (Peggy) de Dieppe, Peter de Moncton; treize petits-enfants: Monique et Danny Berube; Kim, Nicole, Monique , Rick, Sabrina et Ray Leger; Jason et Brian Ayles; Christa, Shawn et Jennifer MacDonald; neuf arrière-petits-enfants; deux frères: Jerry et Ronald (Angie); ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Ray was retired from VIA Rail with 26 years service, a veteran of the Korean War having served with the 4th Field Squadron of the Royal Canadian Engineers, a former member of the Magnetic Hill Golf and Country Club, an avid hunter, and bowler, especially ten pin. He is survived by two daughters: Jeannine Berube (Ed) of Scoudouc, Doris Ayles (Adelard) of Moncton; three sons: Paul (Fernande) and Tony (Peggy) of Dieppe, Peter at home; 13 grandchildren: Monique and Danny Berube, Kim, Nicole, Monique , Rick, Sabrina, and Ray Leger; Jason, and Brian Ayles; Christa, Shawn, and Jennifer MacDonald; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jerry and Ronald (Angie); numerous nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by his best friend and wife of 58 years Ida (Leger) Leger, a son, George, a daughter, Theresa, and a granddaughter Michelle. At Ray's request, no visitation at the funeral home. The funeral mass will be held Friday, February 8 2008 at 10:30 a.m. from St.-Louis-de-France Roman Catholic Church, Lewisville. Ivan W. Steeves 1940-2008 Ivan Steeves, 67, of Hillsborough passed away peacefully on February 3, 2008 at his home with his loving wife by his side, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Salem on March 21, 1940, the son of the late Howe and Blanche Steeves. Ivan grew up in Salem, and in his younger years could often be seen trailing after his father in the woods or at the saw mill. He worked for various companies over the years, such as Co-op, Eatons and Rusco, before going into business for himself. He created Steeves Products Ltd. a machine repair shop and operated the local Irving Convenience Store. Ivan enjoyed spending time in his shop, which was often occupied by family and friends sharing stories. He was always ready to listen to others and equally ready to express his own strong opinion, in his "tell it like it is" manner. He was a proud member of the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years; serving as Fire Chief for over 22 years from his appointment in 1979 until his retirement in 2001. This proved his dedication to his community as he also answered all fire calls at his home. He was a very humble man who did not like to take a lot of credit, but he was a true asset to his community and the surrounding areas for many years. Routinely sought out by the whole community for his immeasurable and diverse wealth of knowledge; his grandson referred to him as his own personal "text book". Above all things he was a true family man. He took great pride in being a father and grandfather. He was always delivering his own special brand of playful teasing that told his family he loved them dearly. He was a beloved husband, dad and grampie who has left so many good memories, which will be treasured forever. "God saw you getting tired, And a cure was not to be, So He put his arms around you, And whispered, "Come to Me". A Golden Heart stopped beating. Hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best." He will be deeply missed by his devoted and caring wife of 45 years, Judith (Milton); his cherished children, Velda Steeves (Reginald) of Shenstone, Marney Steeves (Arden Beaumont) of Hillsborough, Krista King (Kevin) of Newmarket, Ontario and Carrie Steeves (Brian Hedd) of Moncton; his six precious grandchildren, Matthew Steeves (Jackie Rossiter), Amanda Steeves, Brandon King, Andrea King, Marissa Trites and Marley Trites. He is also survived by younger brother, Wesley Steeves; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was also a very special brother-in-law who will be fondly remembered by all of Judy's family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his younger sister, Wendy. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation Monday, February 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. PLEXMAN, Anthony E. - We have lost our Rock, our Light, our beloved Anthony. With deepest sorrow, his family announces the passing of Anthony (Tony) E. LOWNDS, ADA MARION - Ada Marion Donley, RN, of Fredericton, NB, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, January 31, during surgery at Saint John Regional Hospital. She is the daughter of the late Allen and Jean Donley (Roulston) and grew up on the family farm near London, Ontario. Horses, school patrol, and her neighbour Ann Cronyn, RN, originally from Woodstock, NB, were important in her early life. Her family were very active members of Siloam United Church. In 1973, she married the Rev. Jon Richard Lownds and moved to New Brunswick, living for the summer in the Anglican Rectory in Florenceville. A year spent in Ottawa, where Jon did post-graduate study and Ada worked at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, was followed by a move to the Anglican Rectory in Doaktown, where she lived for nearly 8 years. Ada worked in the nearby Doaktown Health Clinic, volunteered with Saint John Ambulance, and was the first Director of Nursing at the Boiestown Nursing Home. She next moved to the Anglican Rectory in Zealand for 7.5 years, and began working for the Victorian Order of Nurses, first running a pilot program developing the first Adult Day Centre for VON, then, after the births of her miracle children Jonathan Richard and Ann Elizabeth Jean, she branched out into other areas of VON work - foot care, home visiting, clinics and working in New Brunswick Housing facilities in Fredericton. She loved her work and missed it deeply when forced to go on disability two years ago. Ada lived for the past 18 years in St. Margaret's Anglican Rectory in Forest Hill, and has been an active member of St. Margaret's Parish family, putting her hand to many tasks and being an inspiration to the congregation. Here she discovered a name for the ministry she exercised throughout her married life - "Parish Nursing", and she worked to help develop this practice Ada's epitaph " What you do is ." Ada is survived by her husband "Fr. Jon"; her son, Richard; and daughter, Elizabeth; her sister, Francis Okihiro of Toronto; and brothers, Evan (Barb) of London and Neil (Georgie) of Winnipeg; and several nieces and nephews, and their children. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening at St. Margaret's, 775 Forest Hill Road, Fredericton. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Margaret's Tuesday at 2 PM with a reception following in the narthex. The Rt. Rev. Claude Miller will officiate, and the Rev. Neville Cheeseman will preach. Loving “Papa“ of Joshua of Sarnia. Born at Cobalt, ON, Mr Scripnick had resided in the Sarnia area since 1950. He was pre-deceased by a son Richard, a sister Irene Adams and three brothers Rene, Jean and Henri. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Outre son épouse et sa mère, il laisse dans le deuil quatre filles: Jessica Mallais Lavigne et Maryse Mallais Lavigne (Jean-Philippe Chiasson), toutes deux de Caraquet, Nadine Lavigne (Dave Ross) de Caraquet et Cindy Lavigne (Patrick Guay) de Lévis, Qc; deux fils: Marc Lavigne (Nicole Duclos) et Marcel Jason Lavigne (Savanna Legacy), tous deux de Moncton; une belle-fille, Mélanie (Denis Dugas) de Montréal; six petits-enfants: Maxime, Roxane, Mya, Justin, Alex et Oceanne; cinq soeurs: Zélia (feu Léonce Landry) de Caraquet, Julianne (Gérald Michaud) de Saint-Jacques, Adéline (Guy Nadeau) d'Edmundston, Sylvia Lavigne Label et Donalda (feu Marcel Phillibert), toutes deux de Montréal; deux frères: Paul-Marcel (Thérèse Savoie) et Jean-Pierre, tous deux de Caraquet, ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines. À la demande de la famille, un don au Centre d'oncologie de l'Hôpital Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont serait très apprécié.
