Lacaille Benoit À la résidence St-Brigid, le 20 janvier 2008, est décédé M. Benoit Lacaille, époux bien-aimé de Huguette Gamache, demeurant à Québec. Les funérailles auront lieu en présence des cendres le samedi 2 février 2008 à 10h, en l’église St-Michel de Sillery (1717, Côte Sillery) où la famille sera présente une heure avant la cérémonie pour recevoir les condoléances. La mise en terre aura lieu au cimetière St-Patrick. Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil ses trois enfants: Marie (Pierre Meilleur), Louis (Marie-France Bonneau), Roger (Marie-Claude Rousseau); ses petits-enfants: Alexandra, Jean-François, Laurent, Marc-André et Pierre-Philippe; ses belles-soeurs et beaux-frères: Lt. Paul-Edmond a grandi à Village Montmorency et alors qu’il était étudiant en médecine, il a suivi la construction du pont de l’Île d’Orléans. Il était très attaché à cette île où il a passé tous les étés de sa vie, d’abord sur la propriété familiale de St-Laurent où il avait construit un magnifique tennis avec ses frères puis sur la grève près de la grotte à Maranda où il avait sa résidence d’été et ses fameux yachts. Devenu passionné de ski alpin dans la quarantaine, il a établi sa demeure à Lac-Beauport sur le bord des pistes du Mont St-Castin puis au pied de la station de ski Le Relais où une piste porte son nom. Médecin, chirurgien, pionnier dans l’implantation de plusieurs nouvelles technologies, il s’est spécialisé à l’Université Harvard dans les années 1940 et a œuvré pour la Croix-Rouge durant la guerre. Tous ceux qu’il a soignés se souviendront de son approche humaine et de son sens de l’humour. Sa prescription: le sport, l’activité physique, le plein air… La famille remercie le personnel de Place Alexandra pour les bons soins et l’atmosphère chaleureuse qui a entouré ses dernières années. DIANE KAY WOLCH (WILSON) February 17, 1935 - January 26, 2008 Diane Kay Wolch of Victoria, BC ended her long fight with cancer early on the morning of January 26, 2008. Born in Montreal, Quebec to Muriel Olive and Charles Tappen Wilson. Diane was raised in Montreal where she graduated from McGill University as a Finance major. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Joan Hyland (Wilson). She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Lorne A. Wolch, children Susan and Bruce (Darcy) and her adoring grandchildren Kaitlyn, Robbie, Holly and Fisher; stepchildren Sara (Julian), Mark (Sandra), and Jonathan; step-grandchildren Ari and Jackson; nieces Tara and Meghan and nephews Sean and Tim. Professionally, Diane was the first female stockbroker at Burns Fry Limited in Winnipeg. She was also a financial consultant at the Exchange Consulting Group and was appointed to the Manitoba Securities Commission. After moving to Victoria in 1994, she was appointed to the British Columbia Securities Commission for 3 consecutive terms. Always generous, Diane's volunteer work was varied and extensive. In Winnipeg, she was actively involved in the Junior League, eventually becoming President. She was a member of the Board of Governors and Treasurer of Balmoral Hall School. And, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for nine years, culminating in her appointment as President of the Board of Directors. She was also the first female Commodore of the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club. In Victoria, she was a member of the Board of Directors for Pacific Opera Victoria. She also participated in the Capital Campaign for the new research facility for the B. C. Cancer Agency of Victoria. In her early years in Montreal, Diane was a track and field star. This led to a lifelong love of tennis, snow skiing, golf, hiking, kayaking and swimming. She was always active and fit, as illustrated by her involvement in Dragonboat racing in Victoria after she was diagnosed with cancer. Her hobbies included poker, bridge, book club, birding and gourmet cooking. The family would like to express our deepest thanks to Dr. Phillip Kelly and the nurses on 7A at the Victoria General Hospital for making the last weeks of Diane's life as comfortable as possible. A service will be held in Diane's honour at 11:00 am on Friday, February 1, 2008 at St. John the Divine, 1611 Quadra, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Diane's name to theUniversity of Winnipeg Foundation or the B. C. Cancer Agency of Victoria (Capital Campaign). Jean was happy in her role as grandmother and loved being with the kids. Jean will be greatly remembered for her generous nature and loving spirit. Jean was involved with the United Church Women “UCW“ where many knitting and craft projects were produced for craft sales as well as for friends and family. She came to Canada on January 9, 1959 with several friends to work as a nurse at the Memorial and General Hospitals. She met George in Sudbury and married him on September 10, 1960 in England. We would like to thank the many friends who supported our family throughout Jean's illness. We are extremely grateful to the caregivers of the 3rd floor at Extendicare Falconbrige for their compassionate care and love of Jean. We always knew she was in good hands. LATHAM, Rev. John Alfred - of Blenheim and formally of Blenheim passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Saturday January 26, 2008. John was born 71 years ago in St. Thomas to his parents Elsie (Grundy) and Harry Latham, both predeceased. Surviving is his wife of 32 years Marjorie “Marnie“ (Target) Latham. Also surviving are their two children Donna Latham and Timothy Latham. John started his ministry by being made deacon in 1978 and was then appointed Deacon in charge of Parkhill and Ailsa Craig and Brinsley June 1, 1978. John was ordained to the priesthood in February of 1979. In 1982 he was named rector of Blenheim's Trinity Anglican Church, Grace Anglican in Rondeau, and St. Paul's Anglican in Erieau. He was the Regional Dean of Kent in 1983 and rector of St. John's in Sarnia in 1988. John retired from active ministry in 2001. According to John's wishes, cremation has taken place and a service celebrating his life will be held on Monday February 4, 2008 at Trinity Anglican Church, Blenheim at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. David Fuller of Trinity Anglican Church. The Right Reverend Bruce Howe, Bishop of Huron, will celebrate Holy Communion. (Retired) (October 7, 1930 Bellevue Farm, Grafton - January 25, 2008 Oxford Mills) - After a brief stay in the Winchester District Memorial Hospital, Bob died on Friday morning, January 25, 2008. Beloved father of Dean Usher (Lorraine Dignard) of Metcalfe and Shelley Usher of Ottawa. Grandfather of Seaton and Nelson Usher of Metcalfe. Survived by his brother John Usher (Betty) of Vancouver, his sister Beth of Colborne and nieces and nephews across Canada. Predeceased by his parents Nelson and Blanche Usher (nee Kerr), by his son Robert McKenzie Usher, his brother Richard and his sister Alice. He is also survived by Bonnie Foster of Oxford Mills, his life partner and her children Kris, Karen and Emily Abel of Toronto. He will be missed by his life long friends Doug Clark (Barbara) of Kingston and also by the many good friends he has made in the Kemptville area. Well known in this area for his love of reading, bookstores, poetry, dogs, horses, agriculture and people. He is beloved by us all. Bob joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1951 to 1953 where he served in Korea, retired in 1979 and was called back to serve another term of duty until 1984. During his military tenure, he achieved the rank of Artillery Captain. Bob was a farmer, a poet, an author, a teller of stories and the best of mentors. COLLINS, Michael J. - January 27th 2008 in his 90th year, at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie. Survived by Mary, his loving wife of sixty-three years and their children Michael (Linda), Kathy, Tom (Rasa), and Brian (Louise). Also survived by grandchildren Ian (Christine), Anna, Jason (Kim), Amy (Jeff) and Shauna, and great-grandchildren Monty, Kylie and Kyle. Born in Dublin in 1918, coming to Canada as a ten-year old, Mike became a farmer in Vespra Township near Barrie. He served in the Grey & Simcoe County Foresters and then joined the RCAF in World War II. After the war, he worked at Camp Borden, Ontario and Toronto International Airport. Mike was a writer and avid historian all his life, publishing numerous magazine articles, fiction pieces and a collection of rural stories called Side Roads & Rail Fences. He was a member of the Canadian Authors Association and the Laubach Literacy organization. In retirement Mike continued to write, travel, and garden. He also obtained a university degree from York and served as a director of the Gryphon Theatre Society and president of the Georgian Bay Credit Union, both of Barrie. A member of St. Mary's Parish in Barrie, Mike will be sorely missed by his friends and family. Friends may call at the STECKLEY- GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME (Clapperton and Worsley St.), Barrie on Monday 7-9 pm and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Parish prayers will be held on Tuesday evening at 8:45 pm. MINNIS, Muriel Joy Eleanor (Haufschild), of Vineland, aged 78, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2007 at Albright Manor, Beamsville after a long illness. Muriel was the loving wife of John for 54 years, dear mother of John and his wife Linda (Huntsville), Susan and her husband Mark Andersen (Enterprise), and loving grandmother of Katie Minnis. Muriel was the beloved sister of Beryl Campbell (Frank) of Meaford, and Ann Zabal and Mary Houston (William) of Niagara Falls. Muriel was predeceased by her parents Amy Beryl and Walter Haufschild. Muriel was born in Toronto, studied piano and was honoured to play in a recital at the Royal Conservatory of Music. The family moved to Niagara Falls in 1942 where she attended Simcoe Street School and NFCVI where she was voted Outstanding Student in her senior year. Muriel graduated from Hamilton Normal School and began her teaching career at John Marshall School in Stamford. She enjoyed choir work at Morrison Street United Church and later in Oshawa and Bancroft. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at a later date. 10972849

SEEBACH, Calvin Arthur - On Monday January 28, 2008, left us peacefully in the company of his family at the G.N.G.H. to be with his beloved wife Alice. Cal will be dearly missed by his children Holly (Anthony), Karl, Norm (Darlene) and Joanne; grandchildren Max, Sam, Chris, Carl, Janice and Jennifer; brothers Elroy (Diana), Ron (Joan); sister Carol (Al); sister- in-law Margaret and many nieces and nephews. Cal was the son of the late Carl and Louisa Seebach of Fort Erie and was predeceased by his wife Alice, son-in-law Greg, brother Ken and sister-in-law Marjory. Cal was born and raised in Fort Erie and could be found as a young boy delivering the Review with his brothers. He left Fort Erie to serve with the US Army with the 9th Infantry at Fort Dix, then returned to Canada to serve with the 27th Canadian Infantry at Borden and was deployed to Europe with the NATO forces from 1951 to 1953, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning to Canada, he followed in his father's footsteps and chose a career with Canada Customs as an officer in Niagara Falls where he met Alice. Cal held various positions throughout Southern Ontario before retiring as the Collector (District Director) for the port of Niagara Falls. Cal enjoyed his family, golf and lunching with his friends during his retirement and was a member and former Poppy Chairman of the Royal Canadian Legion , Branch 71 in Fort Erie. Gramps had a deep love of his family and cherished many special moments with his grandkids. He was an enthusiastic spectator on the soccer field cheering on the boys. He will be deeply missed floating around the pool on his water noodle; a beer in his hand and a smile on his face . . .Godspeed Gramps! A private Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 30th at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date in Fairview Cemetery. CANOUGH, Gordon (Captain) - Passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday January 26, 2008 at Hotel Dieu Shaver. Beloved husband of Annette for 47 years. Loving father of sons Robert Terry (Marguerite) of Ottawa and Kevin Charles. Grandfather of Daniel, Jeremie, Jacob and Megan. Survived by his sister Ruth (Simeon) Langevin of Massena N.Y. Predeceased by brothers Harry (Helen), Allen (Elaine), and Neil (Carmen). Gordon worked as a Mariner for 45 years. After sailing as a ship's Captain for five years he became employed as a marine pilot in 1965 by the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority until retiring in 1991. Until his passing, he was a member and past president of the Cooperation of Professional Great Lakes Pilots. In 1980 he was appointed by the Minister of Transport as a member of the board of directors of the GLPA until 1996. He served in the armed forces from 1944 - 1946. He was active in the community and an active member of St. Julia's Church. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of both St. Catharines General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Shaver. Friends and family will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Wednesday January 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated from St. Julia Catholic Church on January 31 at 10:00 a.m. Vigil prayers will be held on Wednesday at 3:00p.m. in the funeral home. IREDALE, Andrew James - After a lingering illness borne patiently Andrew died on Sunday, January 27. Son of the late George (1992) and Martha (1979) (McQuilkin) Iredale.
