WEAVER, Aileen Elizabeth (nee Sutcliffe) - passed away with family by her side at Trenton Memorial Hospital on Thursday, January 24, 2008 in her eighty- eighth year. Dearly beloved wife of the late Gerald Ames Weaver. Daughter of the late James Albert and E. Grace Sutcliffe. Predeceased by brother Bruce and sisters Helen, Miriam, and Eva. Precious mother of Gerald Bruce, Stephen James (Maria), and Martha Jane. Loving Grandmother of James and Nicholas Weaver, and Luis Rodriguez and Alina Weaver-Rodriguez. BARRY, ELMA "DICKIE" ARTHURS - With great sadness the family of Elma " Dickie" (Puddington) Arthurs Barry, of Saint John, NB, the last survivng member of her immediate family, wife of the late Clement Barry, announce her death on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Chapel Grove, Kingston Peninsula, at the home of her uncle, James Edwards, she was the youngest daughter of the late Medley and Beatrice (Edwards) Puddington. During the war years she taught school. Dickie held memberships with the Federal, Provincial and Saint John Liberal Associations, the Peninsula Pearls, Maritime Fiddlers Association, Coles Avid Reader Club and attended All Saints Church, Clifton Royal, NB. She possessed a great passion for animals and birds. She is survived by one son, Richard (Gail) Arthurs of Chapel Grove; two daughters: Virginia-Lee Robb of Saint John, NB and Gale (David) Curdy of New Maryland, NB; grandsons: Jason (Sherri) Arthurs, Justin Arthurs, and David McCurdy, granddaughters Jodi (Aiden) McCormack, Jennifer, Jillian and Erin McCurdy, great-grandchildren Colton and Tiffany Arthurs, Declan and Quinlan McCormick, Tristian Arthurs. McCOY, Lillian “Alberta“ - Passed away at Hastings Manor, Belleville on Saturday January 19, 2008 in her 106th year. Alberta was the daughter of the late Alex and Annie (Ida) McCoy. She was born Feb. 20, 1902 in Remington where she grew up with her brothers, William, Herbert, and Earl, and her Sister Myrtle. In 1926, Alberta entered the “School of Nursing“ at Ottawa Civic Hospital, graduating as an R.N. in 1929. She nursed for a short time but chose to return home to care for her ailing parents. She remained on the farm where she worked hard but took time out to enjoy her flower gardens. During the 1980's, Alberta and her two brothers purchased a new home and moved to Corbyville. When her brothers passed away, ill health forced her to move to Hastings Manor, Belleville. Alberta was a dedicated member of Madoc Chapter O. E. S. and served as Worthy Matron in 1973-74, the Emerald Year. Worthy Grand Matron at that time was Edna Dobbs, Belleville and Grand Marshall was Marjorie Morgan, Brighton. The Funeral Service was held at the BELLEVILLE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL on January 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Matheson officiating. Spring interment Cooper Cemetery. Lui survivent aussi sa soeur, Ida Brûlotte (Fernand Longpré), ses belles-soeurs et beaux-frères, nièces, neveux, autres parents et ami(e)s. CORNFIELD, VIVIAN DORIS - 90, West Saint John, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 13, 1917, in Amherst, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Edgar George and Ida May (Brenton) McEachern. Vivian was a homemaker spending most of her life as a resident of West Saint John, as well she was a life long member of Douglas Avenue Christian Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John Thomas Cornfield; sisters, Iris June Pattman, Saint John, Dawn Marie (Robert) Doul, Saint John, Frances Elizabeth (Charles) Finley, Grand Bay - Westfield, Marilyn Joyce Gates, Saint John. RIVETT, Mervin Leslie -1942 - 2008 -It is with deep sadness that the family of Mervin Leslie Rivett announces his passing at his home on Thursday, January 24, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Mervin fought a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Kirkland Lake. Mervin was employed by the Town of Kirkland Lake Works Department for 30 years. He was predeceased by his infant son Mervin Leslie in 1970 and father Henry Rivett in 1980. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Alice (nee Lamarche) and his beloved children Dianne (Danny), Henry (Reina) and Norman (Vivian). Mervin will be fondly remembered by his mother Evelyn Rivett; grandchildren Casey, Brody and Jesse Lafleche, Kristin and Tiffany Rivett. He is survived by his siblings Leona, Norma, Vivian (Rudy), Ted (Margaret), Lorraine (Bill), Helen and Arnold (Sherry) and also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Mervin will be greatly missed by his faithful pets, Penny and Catou. He enjoyed playing pool, woodworking, playing cards and going for walks. Conrad St-Amand 1924-2008 À l’Hôpital Général de Grand-Sault, le vendredi 25 janvier 2008, à l’âge de 83 ans, est décédé Conrad St-Amand, époux de Carmen Lévesque, domicilié à Saint-André. Né à Saint-André en 1924, il était fils de feu Georges St-Amand et de feu Agnès Soucy. Avant sa retraite, M. St-Amand était employé du district scolaire, étant concierge à l’École régionale de Saint-André pendant de nombreuses années. Il était membre des chevaliers de Colomb, 3e degré du conseil 7222 de Saint-André et également membre du Club d'Age d'Or de Grand-Sault. Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil un fils, Lucien (Roselle) de Grand-Sault, cinq filles, Alice St-Amand de Saint-André, Jacqueline St-Amand (André Isabelle) de Kedgwick, Pierrette Rosebrook (Michael) et Micheline Roy de Saint-André et Lise Rioux (Mario) de Grand-Sault, onze petits-enfants, huit arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que des neveux et nièces. Il a été précédé par une fille, Françoise St-Amand en 2005 et un petit-fils, Sylvain Rioux en 2002, ainsi que ses soeurs et frères, Emma Rioux, Esther Caron, Jeanne Tremblay, Will, Albert, Oneil, Aurèle et Pius. L'abbé Dancause a été missionnaire au Brésil pendant 3 ans, curé de la paroisse Sainte-Elisabeth-de-Warwick, animateur de pastoral à l'école secondaire de Warwick en plus d'avoir oeuvré pendant 20 ans comme aumônier au CHSLD l'Ermitage de Victoriaville. Il laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Judith (Dr Marc-Yvon Leclerc); son beau-frère Paul Rondeau (feu Pierrette Dancause), ainsi que sa belle-soeur Nicole Lavertu. Il laisse également dans le deuil sa famille spirituelle madame Liliane Demolon et ses enfants Éric, Laurent, Geneviève, Louis et aussi plusieurs neveux, nièces, autres parents et ami(e)s. JAMBOR, Dr. John L. 1936-2008 John died on January 18, 2008 after struggling with cancer for 10 months. He knew that he had lived his life well and was content in his acceptance of the inevitable. After receiving his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in geology from the University of British Columbia, John Jambor joined the Geological Survey of Canada in Ottawa in 1960, During this period, he received his Ph.D from Carleton University in 1966. In 1993, John returned to his roots in the Vancouver area, continuing his work in environmental mineralogy as Adjunct Professor at both the University of Waterloo and at the University of British Columbia, and as the principal of Leslie Research and Consulting. He has been the recipient of several national and international awards: including, from Mineralogical Association of Canada, the Hawley Award (1970), the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal (1977), the Berry Medal (1991), and the Past Presidents' Medal (2002) awarded to scientists who have made significant contributions to the mineralogical sciences during their career. He has been an Honorary Life Member of MAC since 1982. He received the Barlow Medal from the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and recently was honored with a Life Membership. Dr. Jambor has published widely, making important contributions in the fields of mineralogy, petrology, crystallography, and mineral deposits. Dr. Jambor also contributed to the earth sciences through editorial duties, of which the most significant are Scientific Editor of The Canadian Mineralogist (1971-1975); Co-Editor, The Canadian Mineralogist (1975-1977); New Minerals Editor, American Mineralogist (1989-2007); Consulting Editor for Exploration and Mining Geology (1991-1999). Dr. Jambor has also been editor or co-editor of seven special issues, short courses and related books, as well as series editor for five Mineralogical Association of Canada short courses. In recognition, he has been awarded the L.G. Berry Medal (MAC), Honorary Life Membership (MAC), and the Julian Boldy Memorial Award (CIM Geological Society). Dr. Jambor's interests included environmental mineralogy when environmental mineralogy was not even named as a science. The Group of Seven wine club was an important part of Jol's life. He was most happy in your company. The triumphant and superbly memorable blind tastings were always a source of happy reminiscence. He kept something aside for the 200th anniversary of the Group of Seven get togethers and, though he would not expect it, we know there will be a glass or two raised in his memory. John started curling in 1963 as a "therapeutic" alternative to working on his PhD. John made life-long friends at CityView (Nepean, Ontario) and at Tunnel Town (Tsawwassen, BC) most of whom never knew what he did for a living, but grew to appreciate the quietly skilled competitor with a love for wine and a great appreciation for the game he loved. He curled at least 2 times a week until he could physically no longer do so and was glad that his illness was diagnosed after he had completed his commitments to his curling team. That was John. John was exceedingly generous professionally and your thanks to him helped make his last weeks peaceful and serene. He is survived by his son Jay and his wife Lynne; his sisters-in-law Margaret Heenan and nieces Aretha and Madeline, and Janet (John) Davies, nephews Danny and Mike on the McCarthy side particularly William (Dolores), and his far away daughters Allison and Leslie Jambor and granddaughter Shizen. We want to particularly thank Dr. Colleen Lee and the Delta Home Support group. John requested that there be no funeral. He will be interred at Ocean View Burial Park, 400 Imperial Street, Saturday January 26, 2008 at 12 noon, with his sister Alice McCarthy, and Mother and Father Joanna and John Jambor, followed by an open house afterwards from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Yvon Fournier, of Hearst The funeral service for Hearst resident Yvon Fournier, 65, was held Jan. 14, 2008. He died Jan. 12 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 12, 1942 in Ste-Anastasie-Lyster, Québec, he came to the Hearst area in 1969. A cutter, he was a generous, jovial person who enjoyed fishing, nature and wildlife. He leaves his sisters Lucette of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Qué., Denise (Claude) of Thurso, and Réjeanne (Maurice), Monique (Rémi), Pauline, France (Pierre), Jocelyne (Martin) and Guylaine, all of Lyster, and brothers Gaston (Ghyslaine), Gérard, Jean-Marc (Madeleine) of Lyster, Julien of Hearst, Jules of Montréal, Florent, Réal (Francine) of Montréal, and Jocelyn (Diane) of Hearst. Margaret Violet Fern Szynkorenko (née Johnson) died on January 8, 2008 at the Englehart and District Hospital. Mrs. Szynkorenko had been ill for two years. She was born February 28, 1932 in Coleman Township to Nathan and Ellen Johnson and married Porfirij (Joe) Szynkorenko August 3, 1957 in New Liskeard. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, her parents, brothers George, Harry, Tom, Jimmy, Nathan, Leslie and sisters Grace and Tillie. She is survived by sister Albertine Gray, daughter Erelene (Terry) Chenette, son Edward (Maggie) Szynkorenko, grandchildren Trina, Trent, Stefan, Chad, Chelsea, great-grandchildren Jonah, Joshua and McKenna. Mrs. Szynkorenko was a member of the Christ Church Anglican in Englehart where she has lived since 1995 and St. Simons Anglican Church in Temagami. She was a cook, waitress and homemaker and will always be remembered for her spontaneous sense of humour. The funeral was held at Christ Church Anglican in Englehart with Reverend Linda White officiating January 11, 2008 with cremation to follow. Gérard Joseph Leblanc of Kapuskasing, died at home on January 8, 2008. Mr. Leblanc was born on May 12, 1916 in Rogersville, New Brunswick. He was a carpenter in the pulp and paper industry. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing. He is survived four daughters, Lorraine Losier and Bea Bezel (Nick) of Kapuskasing, Joanne Gaulin (Lucien) of Moonbeam and Louise Lomas (Bill) of Dryden ; two sons, Victor Leblanc (Shirley) and Raymond Leblanc, both of Kapuskasing and two sisters, Elmire Langer of Raymond, Washington and Helen Price of London. Mr. Leblanc was predeceased by his wife Aldéa Leblanc, his sister Eva Tedesco, his mother Elvina Déprés and his stepfather Albert Déprés. Roland Côté, of Hearst The funeral service for Hearst area campgrounds entrepreneur Roland Côté of Lac Ste-Thérèse, 62, was held Jan. 12, 2008. He died Jan. 9 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a four-month battle with cancer. Born July 19, 1945 in Mattice, he came to the Hearst area as a youngster. He was since 1993 owner of the family-run Le Ranch du Lac snowmobile-and-camp grounds facilities along the lake’s southwest shore. Predeceased by his brothers Léo, Gérard, Lucien and Joseph Côté and sisters Symone Lessard and Thérèse Vienneau, he leaves his wife Rollande (née Lemay) Côté, daughter Carole (Éric) Baillargeon, and a son Bob (Nancy Leduc) Côté, all of Hearst. Also surviving are his sisters Jeanine (Armand) Samson of Hearst and Laurette (David) Bois of Fort Frances, a brother Raymond (Pierrette) of Lauretteville, Qué., and granddaughters Jessica, Erika and Alexanne. Cremation took place prior to the service directed by Rev. Rémi Lessard at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral. Commemorative donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

HICKEY, PATRICK W. A. - The death of Patrick W. A. Hickey of Station Rd., Nauwigewauk, husband of Theresa M. (Shielder) Hickey, occurred unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Mr. Hickey was born in Nash Creek, N.B., a son of the late John and Elexia (Corrier) Hickey, and had resided the greater part of his life in the Saint John area. He had been employed at the Saint John Dry Dock and at Atlantic Sugar Refineries. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Steve at home, Wayne (Kathy) of Texas, John at home, and Rickey (Tina) of Saint John; one daughter, Joyce Ewart of Saint John; two brothers, Ralph (Lillian) and Joe, both of Jacquet River, N.B.; a sister-in-law, Ann Hickey of Hammond River; four grandchildren, Alexa and McKael Hickey, and Dionne and Kevin Ewart; three great-grandchildren, Haley, Danny, and Tanisha Butler; and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday morning at 12:05 PM. COLWELL, MICHAEL L.- After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer and broken hearted over the recent loss of his loving wife Jean in December, Michael Leslie Colwell passed away on the 23rd of January 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital . Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Stanley and Ruby (Paxton) Colwell. He will be sadly missed by sons, Jeffrey (Kim) and Mike (Serge Boudreau); his beloved "sis", Bunny (Ray Chaisson) Cormier; grandchildren, Michael Jacques, Scott Colwell, and Amber Colwell and several nieces and nephews. Also, grieving the loss of his best friend, is Nuisance and Mandy May, Michael's four legged "partners in crime". Léonce Henri Tremblay of Val Rita, died at Sensenbrenner Hospital on January 13, 2008. Mr. Tremblay was born on August 10, 1933 in Harty, Ontario. He was a bus driver. He enjoyed hunting, taking care of his animals and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite; a daughter, Rachelle Dubé (Norm); three sons, Claude (Pierrette), Gilbert (France) and Sylvain of Kapuskasing; three brothers, René (Monique) of Kapuskasing, Aimé (Eliane) of Val Rita and Jean (Laurence) of Val Rita; four sisters, Laurette Filion of Harty, Marguerite Perras (Gabriel) of Kapuskasing, Rose Murray (Héribert) of Timmins and Rita Bergeron (Denis) of Harty; one sister-in-law, Thérèse Tremblay of Kapuskasing, as well as eight grandchildren, Kevin, Steven, David, Amy, Eric, Megan, Anaïk and Kelly. Mr. Tremblay was predeceased by his parents, Ulysse and Albertina Tremblay; one sister, Simone; one brother, Antonio Tremblay and one brother-in-law, Paul Filion. DUCIAUME, RONALD DAMASE (Ron) May 16, 1946-January 23, 2008 The family announces with great sorrow his death after a brief yet courageous battle with brain cancer at the Timmins and District Hospital on Wednesday January 23, 2008 at the age of 61 years. Loving husband of the late Dorothy Margaret “Doddie” (nee Keyes) who left us on January 26th, 2007. Dearest mother of Shelly Ferguson (husband Chris) of Oshawa and David Duciaume (wife Tracy Seaton) of Timmins. Grandfather "Pappa" of Cameron and Erin Ferguson of Oshawa. Son of Yvette Duciaume (Nee Pichette) of Timmins and the late Maurice Duciaume (1996). Also survived by his sister Joanne Savard (husband Rick) and Marc Duciaume (wife Judi) all of Timmins. Uncle to his loving nieces and nephews Steve Savard (wife Aimée) of Toronto and Marc, Krista (known as Ron’s “Sidekick” ) & Michael Duciaume all of Timmins. Son in-law of Doris "Dot" Keyes (Nee Swain) of Timmins and the late Claude Keyes (2000). Brother in-law of Patricia "Pat" Prower (husband Reg) of Toronto and John Keyes (wife Marilyn) of Texas, U.S.A.. Aunt to Kathy Guthrie (husband Bart) of Connecticut, U.S.A. and Kevin Keyes (wife Michelle) of Texas, U.S.A.. Ron was born in Timmins and has resided here for most of his life. He met his wife Dorothy “Doddie” and they were married on April 15th, 1968. They travelled for a while as newlyweds then decided to make Timmins their home where they raised their daughter Shelly and son Dave. Ron worked for many years in many of the local mines. Recent position was maintenance planner at Kinross Mine until the year 2000. Ron was a woodworker who could build just about any piece of furniture or craft out of wood. His workshop was his retreat. Ron also enjoyed camping with many of his good friends at Tatachikapika campground. He loved to fish and was excellent at filleting. Anyone who knew Ron was aware that the Montreal Canadians Hockey team could do no wrong through his eyes, he was a loyal fan. Over the years Ron and Dorothy had gained a love for travel to various casinos. Ron adored playing cards while Dorothy sat at the slots. After his wife’s passing, Ron became very active with his brother Marc and his sister in-law Judi. He would assist them with various functions by indicating to us on any given weekend that he had a “job” to go do with Marc, Judi and the kids. They kept him busy and active in the community events that they hosted. Ron’s cousin Maurice Pichette was like a brother to him. Maurice was dear friend who held a special place in Ron’s heart, we are forever grateful. Ron has left a big void any many lives and will be sadly missed. The family cannot express enough love and gratitude to everyone who came to support us in any way, shape or form at the hospital during all those hours of vigil. The kindness, care and support shown really displayed the love we feel from our family and friends. HAWKINS, MARGARET M. (CROCKETT) Margaret M. (Crockett) Hawkins of Burton, passed away at her home, January 23, 2008. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Ronald Edmond Hawkins; daughter, Marie Cogswell of Burton, NB. Born in Broxburn, Scotland, she was the daughter of James Crockett and Isabella Hutchinson. Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Margaret's greatest pleasures were spending time with her family and welcoming friends. She also enjoyed the natural beauty of nature.
