He was born in London, England on April 10, 1945 and at the age of eighteen months immigrated to Canada with his mum Ada. DUCIAUME, RONALD DAMASE (Ron) May 16, 1946-January 23, 2008 The family announces with great sorrow his death after a brief yet courageous battle with brain cancer at the Timmins and District Hospital on Wednesday January 23, 2008 at the age of 61 years. Loving husband of the late Dorothy Margaret “Doddie” (nee Keyes) who left us on January 26th, 2007. Dearest mother of Shelly Ferguson (husband Chris) of Oshawa and David Duciaume (wife Tracy Seaton) of Timmins. Grandfather "Pappa" of Cameron and Erin Ferguson of Oshawa. Son of Yvette Duciaume (Nee Pichette) of Timmins and the late Maurice Duciaume (1996). Also survived by his sister Joanne Savard (husband Rick) and Marc Duciaume (wife Judi) all of Timmins. Uncle to his loving nieces and nephews Steve Savard (wife Aimée) of Toronto and Marc, Krista (known as Ron’s “Sidekick” ) & Michael Duciaume all of Timmins. Son in-law of Doris "Dot" Keyes (Nee Swain) of Timmins and the late Claude Keyes (2000). Brother in-law of Patricia "Pat" Prower (husband Reg) of Toronto and John Keyes (wife Marilyn) of Texas, U.S.A.. Aunt to Kathy Guthrie (husband Bart) of Connecticut, U.S.A. and Kevin Keyes (wife Michelle) of Texas, U.S.A.. Ron was born in Timmins and has resided here for most of his life. He met his wife Dorothy “Doddie” and they were married on April 15th, 1968. They travelled for a while as newlyweds then decided to make Timmins their home where they raised their daughter Shelly and son Dave. Ron worked for many years in many of the local mines. Recent position was maintenance planner at Kinross Mine until the year 2000. Ron was a woodworker who could build just about any piece of furniture or craft out of wood. His workshop was his retreat. Ron also enjoyed camping with many of his good friends at Tatachikapika campground. He loved to fish and was excellent at filleting. Anyone who knew Ron was aware that the Montreal Canadians Hockey team could do no wrong through his eyes, he was a loyal fan. Over the years Ron and Dorothy had gained a love for travel to various casinos. Ron adored playing cards while Dorothy sat at the slots. After his wife’s passing, Ron became very active with his brother Marc and his sister in-law Judi. He would assist them with various functions by indicating to us on any given weekend that he had a “job” to go do with Marc, Judi and the kids. They kept him busy and active in the community events that they hosted. Ron’s cousin Maurice Pichette was like a brother to him. Maurice was dear friend who held a special place in Ron’s heart, we are forever grateful. Ron has left a big void any many lives and will be sadly missed. The family cannot express enough love and gratitude to everyone who came to support us in any way, shape or form at the hospital during all those hours of vigil. The kindness, care and support shown really displayed the love we feel from our family and friends. DAUPHINAIS, Guy 2008-01-25 1939 – 2008 Guy Dauphinais, loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away unexpectedly at the age of sixty-eight. He died peacefully at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008. Guy was born on June 15th, 1939 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and spent much of his youth in Eli, Manitoba. He also lived with his family in several small communities in Manitoba and graduated from Provencher High School in 1955 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Guy started his working life with the Hudson‘s Bay Company in Thompson, Manitoba, before moving to Red Lake, Ontario. He later moved to Thunder Bay and began to work for Nor-Shore Ready-Mix in 1971, where he continued until his retirement at the age of sixty. Thunder Bay is also where Guy met and married Karen Thurgood on August 19, 1974. He was a skilled craftsman and he enjoyed spending spare time building birdhouses, furniture and doing other woodworking projects. Guy was an avid fisherman, who was just as happy to be in the boat as to catch a fish. He was also a holder of the prestigious Master of Wine Arts Degree from Fontana Candida University, which is proudly displayed in his home. Guy loved the time spent with his family and his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Brent (Collette); granddaughter, Ash (Miles); grandson, Andrew; great grandson, Solomon; nieces and nephews, Paul, Silvie, Louis and Lise; mother-in-law, Grace; brother-in-law, Kenneth; good friend, Mervyn Jourdain and his canine napping companion, Boz. Guy also felt privileged to have known Wanda Anton and Travis Wert. He was predeceased by both parents, Celeste and Irene; sister, Sheila, and daughter, Jacqueline. A memorial celebration of Guy‘s life will be held at the Victoria Inn on Monday, January 28th at 1:30pm. In honour of Guy, donations to The Northern Cancer Research Foundation or The Thunder Bay and District Humane Society would be appreciated.

SCOTT, BYRON H. - It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Byron Hales Scott, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbour. Byron passed away at his residence in Sussex, NB on January 23, 2008 at the age of 66. Born in Bathurst, NB he was a son of the late Andrew and Inez (Peters) Scott. He was a member of The Sussex Vale Golden "K" Club, St. Paul's United Church. He will be sadly missed by wife Patricia "Pat, Tish" (Dempsey); children, Shauna Curtis and husband Jamie, Fredericton, Tammy Buchanan and husband Kevin, Sussex, Troy and fiancé Andrea Baskin, Sussex, Diana "Dee Dee" Chiasson and husband Roger, Labrador, Shannon Zoeller and husband Eddi, Bathurst, Michael and wife Carol, Bathurst and Dean, Texas; five grandchildren and youngest grandson Dylan Buchanan, Sussex; sisters, Ruth Chiasson, Bathurst; and mother-in-law Isalee Dempsey, Bathurst; several sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Eldon and Irving; sister Marvel MacCullum; and brother-in-law Ken Chiasson. Byron spent his working career as a miner in coal, iron ore and potash mines. In retirement he enjoyed working in his shop in the backyard, helping others as best he could and spending time with family and friends. Byron was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army Kettle and many fundraising events. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Saturday from 3-5 and 7-9PM. HARDY, H. Reginald, Jr. (Professor Emeritus of Mining Engineering, Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering, Penn State University H. Reginald Hardy, Jr. (August 19, 1931 to January 22, 2008 H. Reginald Hardy, Jr., 76, of State College, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born August 19, 1931 in Ottawa, Canada, he was the son of the late Henry Reginald Hardy, Sr. and Lois Irene (Moreland). Reg was the loyal, loving husband of Margaret Mary (Lytle) married on June 5, 1954. In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his sons: William Reginald, Syracuse, N.Y. and David Alexander, Las Vegas, Nev.; and granddaughter, Lony Alexandra Mori and her husband, Brian, Pittsburgh. Hardy received his B.Sc. degree in physics from McGill University in 1953, his M.Sc. degree in physics from Ottawa University in 1962 and Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1965. Reg joined the faculty at Penn State in 1966 following 13 years with the Mining Research Section, Fuels Division, Canada Department of Energy, Mines & Resources in Ottawa. During the past 40 years, Dr. Hardy had a passion for his scientific work with his major area of interest in application of acoustic emission/microseismic (AE/MS) techniques to the geotechnical field. During this period he carried out a number of major field and laboratory research projects for the former U.S. Bureau of Mines, the American Gas Association, the IBM Corporation, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Pennsylvania Department of Highways. During his tenure at Penn State, Dr. Hardy directed some 40 Ph.D. and Masters students, published over 60 research papers in geotechnical and mining journals, four technical monographs, and 11 conference proceedings. In 1975 Dr. Hardy organized the First Conference on Acoustic Emission/ Microseismic Activity in Geologic Structures and Materials, which was held at Penn State. The sixth conference of this series was held in 1996. He was active on the editorial review committee of the Journal of Acoustic Emission. He developed and taught a number of rock mechanics courses, carried out extensive field and laboratory research, and consulted widely on behalf of government and industry in the United States, Canada and overseas. He had been a Visiting Research Fellow in the Mining Engineering Department, University of Nottingham and Imperal College, England, a Visiting Professor in the Geophysics Institute, Ruhr University, Germany, a DGF visiting Professor at the University of Aachen, Germany, and a Senior Visiting Fellow, Japanese Society for Promotion of Science, in the Electrical Engineering Department, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He was a member of AIME, ASTM, Canadian Association of Physicists, American Geophysical Union, and the American Society of Nondestructive Testing. Dr. Hardy was listed in Who's Who in America, in American Education, in Science and Engineering and recently in Who's Who in the World. He was the recipient of the ASTM C. A. Hogentogler and Richard L. Templin Awards, a Distinguished Member SME/PCMIA's Pittsburgh Section, and the recipient of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences' Matthew J. and Anne C. Wilson Outstanding Teaching Award. He was a Fellow of the Acoustic Emission Working Group (AEWG) and received the AEWG Achievement and Gold Medal Awards for Pioneering work in the geologic applications of acoustic emission. Reg was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church. His compassion and giving spirit provided strength to family and friends throughout the world. He enjoyed traveling, exploring the different parts of the globe for fine arts and music. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, at the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 W. Beaver Ave., State College. Yvon Fournier, of Hearst The funeral service for Hearst resident Yvon Fournier, 65, was held Jan. 14, 2008. He died Jan. 12 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 12, 1942 in Ste-Anastasie-Lyster, Québec, he came to the Hearst area in 1969. A cutter, he was a generous, jovial person who enjoyed fishing, nature and wildlife. He leaves his sisters Lucette of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Qué., Denise (Claude) of Thurso, and Réjeanne (Maurice), Monique (Rémi), Pauline, France (Pierre), Jocelyne (Martin) and Guylaine, all of Lyster, and brothers Gaston (Ghyslaine), Gérard, Jean-Marc (Madeleine) of Lyster, Julien of Hearst, Jules of Montréal, Florent, Réal (Francine) of Montréal, and Jocelyn (Diane) of Hearst. HAWKINS, MARGARET M. (CROCKETT) Margaret M. (Crockett) Hawkins of Burton, passed away at her home, January 23, 2008. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Ronald Edmond Hawkins; daughter, Marie Cogswell of Burton, NB. Born in Broxburn, Scotland, she was the daughter of James Crockett and Isabella Hutchinson. Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her sons, Ron (Gary) and Eric; sisters, Helen Morton and Mary Curtis; brothers, Douglas, James, Joseph and David Crockett. Margaret's greatest pleasures were spending time with her family and welcoming friends. She also enjoyed the natural beauty of nature. PAULSON, Allan Gerald - In loving memory of Mr. Allan Gerald Paulson who passed away peacefully at the Northview Nursing Home, Englehart, on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the age of 75. Allan had a cheerful personality and got along well with all his fellow workers. He was elected President of the first students council at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Kirkland Lake, where he grew up. He played a wide variety of musical instruments in the High School Band - violin, clarinet, trombone & harmonica. He once boasted that he could play the minute waltz in 59 seconds flat. He traveled the length and breadth of Canada as a diamond driller and latter as a construction pipe fitter. Predeceased by one son Daniel. He is survived by his ex wife June Larson and daughter Eleanore, both of Kingston, On. Sons Mark & John, both of Nelson, B.C. Brothers Harold of Marathon and Bob of Toronto. In keeping with the families wishes, cremation has taken place. Final burial will take place at the Kirkland Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a memorial weekend at Kenogami Lake about August 3, 2008. Final details will be announced. HARRISON, HARRY E. - The passing of Harry E. Harrison, husband of the late Annie (Moore) Harrison, of Fredericton, N.B, occurred on January 23, 2008 at the Veteran's Health Unit. Born on January 29, 1920, he was a son of the late Elbridge "Buck" and Mildred (Harris) Harrison. Harry was a retired merchant with the Marysville Stores Co. and was later a security guard at the University of New Brunswick. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Carleton York Regiment in Italy and Holland. Member of Marysville Legion Branch # 15. Harry is survived by one daughter, Shirley Fowler (David) of Dartmouth, N.S; three sons, Donald (Connie) of Penniac, N.B, Doug (Lorna) of A.B and Gerald (Pamela) of Harvey Station, N.B; as well as, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents; Harry was predeceased by his first wife, Madeline (Dunphy) Harrison and his second wife, Mildred (Manzer) Harrison.
