DORAN, Donald Karl - Peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at the age of 70 years. He will be fondly remembered by his children Carol (Dale) Pettet, Kim (Nick) Parfitt and Jim (Cathy) Doran. Grandfather of Derek and Jennifer Pettet, Andrew, Nicolas and Alysha Parfitt and Max Doran and great-grandson Michael Pettet. Also survived by his sister Pat (Grant) MacDonald of P.E.I. and brother Herb (Joan) Doran of Bancroft, Ontario. Predeceased by his parents Mary and Karl. Don was a long time member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 666 (St. Catharines) and Local 800 Sudbury. Cremation has taken place. A private service has been held. In Don's memory donations to the Alzheimer's Society or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. SCOTT, BYRON H. - It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Byron Hales Scott, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbour. Byron passed away at his residence in Sussex, NB on January 23, 2008 at the age of 66. Born in Bathurst, NB he was a son of the late Andrew and Inez (Peters) Scott. He was a member of The Sussex Vale Golden "K" Club, St. Paul's United Church. He will be sadly missed by wife Patricia "Pat, Tish" (Dempsey); children, Shauna Curtis and husband Jamie, Fredericton, Tammy Buchanan and husband Kevin, Sussex, Troy and fiancé Andrea Baskin, Sussex, Diana "Dee Dee" Chiasson and husband Roger, Labrador, Shannon Zoeller and husband Eddi, Bathurst, Michael and wife Carol, Bathurst and Dean, Texas; five grandchildren and youngest grandson Dylan Buchanan, Sussex; sisters, Ruth Chiasson, Bathurst; and mother-in-law Isalee Dempsey, Bathurst; several sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Eldon and Irving; sister Marvel MacCullum; and brother-in-law Ken Chiasson. Byron spent his working career as a miner in coal, iron ore and potash mines. In retirement he enjoyed working in his shop in the backyard, helping others as best he could and spending time with family and friends. Byron was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army Kettle and many fundraising events. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Saturday from 3-5 and 7-9PM. HARDY, H. Reginald, Jr. (Professor Emeritus of Mining Engineering, Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering, Penn State University H. Reginald Hardy, Jr. (August 19, 1931 to January 22, 2008 H. Reginald Hardy, Jr., 76, of State College, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born August 19, 1931 in Ottawa, Canada, he was the son of the late Henry Reginald Hardy, Sr. and Lois Irene (Moreland). Reg was the loyal, loving husband of Margaret Mary (Lytle) married on June 5, 1954. In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his sons: William Reginald, Syracuse, N.Y. and David Alexander, Las Vegas, Nev.; and granddaughter, Lony Alexandra Mori and her husband, Brian, Pittsburgh. Hardy received his B.Sc. degree in physics from McGill University in 1953, his M.Sc. degree in physics from Ottawa University in 1962 and Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1965. Reg joined the faculty at Penn State in 1966 following 13 years with the Mining Research Section, Fuels Division, Canada Department of Energy, Mines & Resources in Ottawa. During the past 40 years, Dr. Hardy had a passion for his scientific work with his major area of interest in application of acoustic emission/microseismic (AE/MS) techniques to the geotechnical field. During this period he carried out a number of major field and laboratory research projects for the former U.S. Bureau of Mines, the American Gas Association, the IBM Corporation, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Pennsylvania Department of Highways. During his tenure at Penn State, Dr. Hardy directed some 40 Ph.D. and Masters students, published over 60 research papers in geotechnical and mining journals, four technical monographs, and 11 conference proceedings. In 1975 Dr. Hardy organized the First Conference on Acoustic Emission/ Microseismic Activity in Geologic Structures and Materials, which was held at Penn State. The sixth conference of this series was held in 1996. He was active on the editorial review committee of the Journal of Acoustic Emission. He developed and taught a number of rock mechanics courses, carried out extensive field and laboratory research, and consulted widely on behalf of government and industry in the United States, Canada and overseas. He had been a Visiting Research Fellow in the Mining Engineering Department, University of Nottingham and Imperal College, England, a Visiting Professor in the Geophysics Institute, Ruhr University, Germany, a DGF visiting Professor at the University of Aachen, Germany, and a Senior Visiting Fellow, Japanese Society for Promotion of Science, in the Electrical Engineering Department, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He was a member of AIME, ASTM, Canadian Association of Physicists, American Geophysical Union, and the American Society of Nondestructive Testing. Dr. Hardy was listed in Who's Who in America, in American Education, in Science and Engineering and recently in Who's Who in the World. He was the recipient of the ASTM C. A. Hogentogler and Richard L. Templin Awards, a Distinguished Member SME/PCMIA's Pittsburgh Section, and the recipient of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences' Matthew J. and Anne C. Wilson Outstanding Teaching Award. He was a Fellow of the Acoustic Emission Working Group (AEWG) and received the AEWG Achievement and Gold Medal Awards for Pioneering work in the geologic applications of acoustic emission. Reg was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church. His compassion and giving spirit provided strength to family and friends throughout the world. MORRISSEY, John Cameron (Jack) February 12, 1924 - January 24, 2008 - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, of a very special man who was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and a caring brother. Jack Morrisey was the beloved husband of Jacqueline Jackie (nee Basler) for 47 years. Dearest father of Lisa and her husband Bernhard Wiehle, and Catherine and her husband Kevin Walker, and a special grandfather to Michael John Walker. He was a caring brother to Francis Irving Morrissey and his wife Dorothy or Sarnia, brother-in-law to Marie Linden of Listowel, John and Alice Basler of Elmira, George and Sharon Basler of Listowel, Tom and Sandy Basler of Listowel, John and Debbie Huck of Kitchener, Doug and Diane Letson of West Montrose. Jack is lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents John Morrissey and Catherine Cameron, 3 brothers-in-law - Jim Basler, Bill Linden, and Jack Seiler, 2 sisters-in-law - Theresa Basler, Eileen Huck. 1 niece Christine Seiler. Jack worked in the lumber industry for many years in South Western Ontario and the United States while employed by Laidlaw Lumber and MacMillan Bloedel. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving as a Wireless Air Gunner with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was an active golfer at Greeenwood Golf Course in Sarnia. Jack also enjoyed traveling to interesting locales with his family. Jack's lifelong compassion and devotion to his family will remain in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Doctor W. Kindrachuk of Sarnia, Dr. R. Fowlis and his nursing staff of Kitchener. A special thank you to the compassionate and caring staff of the I.C.U. at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener for their efforts during his valiant final confrontation with heart related problems. ALLCOCK, Elizabeth - Loving wife of the late William Gordon Allcock, passed away peacefully at the Plummer Hospital on January 23. She spent the last few months celebrating her 90th birthday with family and friends, and had just celebrated the birth of her first great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late Luella and Garret Lamb, sister of Barbara Lamb (late Tom Gillespie), Laurence (Florence), the late Fraser, sister- in-law Dorothy Butler (Bob) and late brother- in-law Stuart Neundorf. Dearly loved mother of William, James, Marion Lesnik (Michael), Margaret Buffington, and John (Jennifer Baker). Elizabeth took great pride and joy in her grandchildren Christopher Allcock, Katherine (Lonnie Wilson), the late Robyn Buffington, Emma and Jack Lesnik, Cameron and Daniel Allcock, and recent great-grandchildren Tyler and Lucas Wilson. Aunt of Tom (Suzanne) Lamb, Marie Lamb- Martine (Brian), Barbara Lamb and Jill McLean (Bob) and many great nieces and nephews. Elizabeth proudly served her country as a WREN in WW2 and maintained an active relationship with the Canadian WREN Association. Elizabeth and Bill, her loving husband of 57 years, lived many years in Thunder Bay and were long-time members of Trinity United Church, and since their move to Sault Ste. Marie, with St. Andrews United Church. Although her family resides around the world - in New Zealand, Thunder Bay, British Columbia, Sault Ste. Marie and Australia, until very recently she kept daily contact through E- mail, a skill she learned when she was 85. Elizabeth was known for her extraordinary priority to keep in touch with family and friends. Elizabeth and Bill traveled every summer to their cabin on Lake Superior where family values were reflected in their love of nature and love of family. Elizabeth passes on a legacy of service, loyalty, and generosity to all that knew her. Lifelong Earlton resident Rollande Gauthier died peacefully at her home January 20, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. She was 73. Mrs. Gauthier was a faithful member of Paroisse Saint-Jean-Baptiste. She was also known for her outstanding involvement in the community and dedication to various organizations, including Carrefour du Bel Age, Club de l’Age d’Or, UCFO, and Meals on Wheels. She also served as a municipal councillor for the past 13 years. She will be remembered by her family and many friends as a vibrant, outgoing person with a wonderful joie de vivre. She was predeceased by her parents, Rolland and Augustine Léveillé, and by her brother Hector (the late Cécile) Léveillé. She is survived by her husband, Maurice, and children André Gauthier (Carmen Breault) of Dymond, Lilianne (Guy) Gravel of Earlton, Céline (Claude) Duguay of Earlton, Doris (Martin) Maillé of New Liskeard and France Gauthier (Peter) Connelly of Dymond. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. TODD, Wendy Evelyn - Feisty to the end, Wendy passed away in Ottawa on January 19, 2008, three days after her 64th birthday. She leaves her son Peter (Linda) and granddaughter Samantha, Smith Falls; brothers Dave (Barb), Calgary; Harry (Bonnie), Edmonton; and Phil (Joan), Whitby. She was predeceased by her parents Winthrop and Evelyn, brother Arthur and daughter Donna. No Funeral Service is planned. Memorial tributes may be made to The Lung Association or Humane Society. She is remembered by her children: Beverley Byron, Murray (Karin) Tremblay and Linda Sawicz; her four grandchildren: Lisa, Jason, Jarrett and Ryan; and one great-grandson. After a short illness, Thérèse Forget (née Courchesne) died peacefully at the Temiskaming Hospital with her family by her side on January 12, 2008. Mrs. Forget was born in Belle Vallée to Stanislas Forget and Marguerite Dessert on November 5, 1918. Educated in Belle Vallée, she worked at the Haileybury Hospital in housekeeping until becoming a full-time homemaker. Mrs. Forget was predeceased by her husband Albert Forget on July 29, 1976. She is survived by her daughters Fernande (Ernest) Toupin and Denise (Gaston) Plamondon as well as her son Henry (Debbie) Forget, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her brother Maurice (Aurore) Courchesne and her sisters Yvonne Goudreault and Alice Courchesne. The funeral was officiated by Père Germain Turcotte and took place at Paroisse Sacré Coeur with arrangements for a burial at the New Liskeard Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Relatives and friends attended from Richmond Hill, Tillsonburg, Val Caron and Brampton. Pallbearers were grandsons Jean Paul Forget, Bruce Toupin, Robbie Forget, great-granddaughter Renée Toupin, great-grandsons Mathieu and Patrick Toupin. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Temiskaming Hospital and extend a special thank you to Dr. Corbin, Simone and Nicole.

Dear father of Jackie (Dan) Mosher, Kathy (Fred) Pigott, both of Savage Harbour; Jerry and Chrissy (Bill), both of Montague. Loving grandfather of Tammy, Michael, Stephen, Jamie, Tracy, Amy, Amanda, Cynthia, Catlian, Chelsey and Sheila. Great-grandfather of Makayle, Makenzy, Cole and Emily. Survived by his brothers Joseph, Florida; Paul, Michigan, and sister, Agnes VanDenBremt, Charlottetown. SHEDDEN, Roderick 2008-01-25 Mr. Roderick James Shedden age 61 years of Thunder Bay, passed away unexpectedly at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital on January 23, 2008 with his family by his side. He was raised and educated locally and joined the Fort William police force in 1967, retiring in 2000 after 33 years of service. Rod‘s family was most important to him and he married his best friend Carol on June 18th of 2007 in Las Vegas. His son Trevor was his best buddy and partner in "Shedden Motors" where they spent many hours in the garage. He had a special bond with his daughter Carla and his two very special granddaughters Carly and Erin. Rod is survived by his loving wife and best friend Carol, his son Trevor (Louisa), daughter Carla (Paul) Mclnrue, his granddaughters Carly and Erin Mclnrue, stepdaughter Erin Hammond and stepsons Andrew (Megan) and Jason Hammond. He is also survived by his sister Lynne (Ron) McDougall, brother Nelson (Susan) Shedden as well as numerous other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Froella and son Scotty. Cremation has taken place. As per Rod‘s wishes no funeral service will be held. A ’Celebration of Life‘ will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 2:00pm in the Provincial Room at the Prince Arthur Hotel. PAULSON, Allan Gerald - In loving memory of Mr. Allan Gerald Paulson who passed away peacefully at the Northview Nursing Home, Englehart, on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the age of 75. Allan had a cheerful personality and got along well with all his fellow workers. He was elected President of the first students council at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Kirkland Lake, where he grew up. He played a wide variety of musical instruments in the High School Band - violin, clarinet, trombone & harmonica. He once boasted that he could play the minute waltz in 59 seconds flat. He traveled the length and breadth of Canada as a diamond driller and latter as a construction pipe fitter. Predeceased by one son Daniel. He is survived by his ex wife June Larson and daughter Eleanore, both of Kingston, On. Sons Mark & John, both of Nelson, B.C. Brothers Harold of Marathon and Bob of Toronto. In keeping with the families wishes, cremation has taken place. Final burial will take place at the Kirkland Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a memorial weekend at Kenogami Lake about August 3, 2008. Final details will be announced.
