BERGMAN, Martha - May 11, 1924 - November 14, 2007 - Martha grew up in Manitoba, came with family to Ontario in 1941 settling in Virgil. She worked at Wall's Cannery, Woolworths Restaurant, then in 1970 took a Registered Nursing Assistant Course. First she was employed as a RNA at the St. Catharines General Hospital and later at Niagara on the Lake Hospital for 17 years. Along with her sister Mary, she cared for their parents who predeceased - her mother in 1968 and father in 1970. On Wednesday, November 14, 2007, after a brief illness Martha died at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Left to mourn are her sister Mary Bergmann, brother Walter (Helen) Bergmann, two nephews and their families in Calgary, Alberta as well as three nieces and their families in Clarence N.Y., Niagara on the Lake and St. Catharines and by many cousins in Steinbach, Manitoba. Predeceased by his beloved wife, the former Beth Turner in 1987. Loved father of Shirley and her husband Harvey Fulford of Meaford and predeceased by a son Fred “Butch“ Clarke in 2001. OBITUARY GERTRUDE HEDWIG AKERBLOM Born in 1911, in Libau, Latvia, died peacefully in Abottsford, B.C. at the Tabor Home, with family at her side. She was the daughter of Friedrich and Auguste Borowski, sister of Anna Borowski. Having left her birth country in 1936 and living through the war Germany and until 1953, she and her husband, Herbert, who passed away in 1987, moved to Canada, with the children. She was the rock of Gibraltar for her family, in her wisdom and calmness and we will never forget her guidance through our sometimes troubled waters. She will be sorely missed by her sons Frithjof (Helene) and Peter (Mariangela) as well as her three grandchildren, which she cherished and loved, Kim, Daniela, and Oliver. With her outgoing and outspoken personality, she will be missed by all the family and friends living in Germany, Canada and the USA. CLIFFORD EUGENE NODDING- Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a tragic accident at sea, November 13th 2007, Mr. Clifford Eugene Nodding, husband of Mrs. Lorena Gail (Keating) Nodding of Beaver Harbour NB. Born in Blacks Harbour on November 28, 1952, he was a son of Doris Muriel (Dickson) Nodding and the late Byron Nodding. A loving husband, father, son and brother he is survived by his wife, Lorena; two sons, Mark (Tanya) Crocker of Tiberton NS, Nicholas Nodding of Beaver Harbour; one daughter, Jacalyn Nodding of Beaver Harbour; his mother, Doris Nodding of Beaver Harbour; two brothers, Stephen and Mark Nodding (Mary Ann) all of Beaver Harbour; two sisters, Joan (Fidele) Marceau of Blacks Harbour, NB and Ora McCarthy (Emile Belliveau) of Beaver Harbour and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Cliffy was a self employed fisherman and a people person who enjoyed sitting at "Tims" and talking to all those who stopped by. He also was a devoted family man and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Freeport NS. Cliffy was a well known and well loved resident of Beaver Harbour and will be greatly missed by the community. Ethel A. Wood 1924 - 2007 With broken hearts we sadly announce the passing of our precious mother, Ethel Wood, of Church Court, Moncton, formerly of Lower Coverdale, on Sunday, November 11, 2007. Born in Burin, NF, she was the daughter of the late Chesley and Ada Shave. Ethel was married to the late Charlie Wood, her husband and best friend of 60 years. She will be forever loved and sadly missed by her four sons, David (Ellen) of Armstrong, BC, Barry (Marion) of Houston, BC, Brian (Lila) of Moncton, Terry (Ruth) of Lower Coverdale; four daughters, Lynn Ward (Graig) of Shediac Cape, Wendy Wolfe (Greg) of Moncton, Cindi Anderson (Donald) of Moncton and Debbie Johnson (Steve) of Charlottetown, PEI. She was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, who meant the world to her. Ethel will also be missed by her special and beloved brother, Russ Shave and sister-in-law, Emily of Marystown, NF, who she always called her "sister"; brother, Chesley Shave (Linda) of Dartmouth; sister, Sandra Butler (Max) of Goose Bay, Labrador, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Charlie in 2004; infant son, James; and beloved brother, Jimmy and her step mother, Mary Shave. We entrust our Mom into God's care. Her spirit will live on in our hearts forever as "She will rise again in the faces of our children". Mom was a kind, caring, loving and gentle soul loved by all she touched on this earth and now she is our guardian angel in heaven. Milford R. Carter 1929 - 2007 Milford Roy Carter of Indian Mountain, husband of Eulah, passed away at the Dr. George L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Born in Middlesex, March 18, 1929. Mil was the son of the late Benjamin & Carrie (Colpitts) Carter. He worked as a Furniture Refinisher while enjoying his hobby farm. He was an avid woodsman, hunter and fly fisherman. He played a mean guitar and sang like Wilf Carter. In his latter years, he found a new avenue for his creative skills and became an accomplished whittler, creating replicas of the Titanic, sleighs, airplanes, tractors, and many more. In addition to his wife, Mil is survived by son, Lorne (Cindy) and their children; Mackenzie and Isaac, Indian Mountain and daughter, Cathy (Kent) Blades, Cape Sable Island, NS, and their children; Joshua, Matthew and Andrew; brother, Ralph, Moncton; several cousins, nieces and nephews. BURGESS, Linda Pauline Died in The Southwood Hospice on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the age of 56 years following a lengthy illness. Linda was born February 25, 1951 in Great Falls, Montana. She attended the University of Calgary and taught school for many years in Calgary. Linda is survived by: her husband Jim; daughters Jennifer and Sara; mother and father Vivian and Paul Andersen; sister Kathleen Ware; brothers Roger Andersen and Kim Andersen; and eight nieces and nephews. BERTRAM, Olga Rose (nee Hospodarec) May 10, 1935 - November 10, 2007 Olga Rose Bertram (nee Hospodarec), beloved wife of Dave Bertram, was suddenly called home to the kingdom of our Lord on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the age of 72 years. She was born on May 10, 1935 in Drumheller, AB. Besides her loving husband of forty-eight years Dave, Olga is survived by her three children, David Bertram, Janice Bertram and Karen (Greg) Judge and grandson Jarod Judge, all of Calgary. EWING, Melanie Marie September 18, 1979 - November 11, 2007 It is with profound sadness we announce the death of Melanie (Mel) Ewing, who lost her lengthy and courageous battle with mental illness on Sunday, November 11, 2007 in Calgary, at the age of 28 years. Mel was a kind-hearted person with a witty sense of humour and a radiant smile. She loved music and animals. These words by Ralph Waldo Emerson may best describe Mel's philosophy of life, "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." Mel leaves to mourn her parents Helen Ewing and Robin Reesal; her grandmother, Violet Ewing; her uncles and aunt, Chris and Wendy Ewing and Mark Bennett; her cousins, Alexis, Eliza, and Duncan; special friends, Giselle and Val; and many other supportive family members and friends. FRERE, Ernest Pierre Joseph Ernie was born in Trochu, Alberta on May 3, 1950 to Pete and Helen Frere. He passed away suddenly at his home in Calgary on November 13, 2007 at the age of 57. He was raised in Trochu and attended school at Pontmain and Tro-Val High. While growing up he worked on the farm, played hockey, and enjoyed riding his motorbike. Upon graduating from high school, Ernie moved to Calgary for employment. He earned enough money to travel to Europe for a year. Those who knew Ernie well will remember how meticulous he was at keeping his vehicles clean. Ernie was predeceased by his mother, Helen, and his youngest brother Wayne (Guv). He is survived by his three children Brad (Michelle) and their children Tyson and Avery, Danielle (Michael), and Marc; his father, Pete and his wife Doris; sisters Jackie (Bruce), Paulette (Blair), Elaine (Allan), Rinky (Norm); brothers Roger (Donna), Pokey (Cara), Marcel (Frances); numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. HIGGINS, Anthony "Tony" Joseph December 22, 1966 - November 13, 2007 With profound sadness we have lost our son, brother, uncle and lifelong friend to a tragic accident. Tony passed away at the Foothills Hospital on November 13, 2007 at the age of 40 years. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Julia Higgins; brother Don (Joy) Higgins; sisters, Valerie (Bob) Tutty and Patricia (Sandy) Macdonald, as well as his niece, nephews and many lifelong friends. Tony was predeceased by his father Victor Higgins on December 21, 2006. NOEL, John 1941 - 2007 John was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on June 3, 1941. Despite a valiant effort over many months, he was unable to recover from heart surgery. He passed away at Foothills Hospital on November 10, 2007. John spent most of his working life in Calgary having been employed by Explosives Limited. He enjoyed the friendship of his co-workers and many others, particularly those in the mining industry. He was also active in amateur radio and was president of the Calgary Radio Club for a period. VE6LL is now silent. His other interests were camping and golfing. His pet pooch, JoJo was a constant companion. John is survived by two brothers, Peter of Sidney, BC and Jim of Victoria, B.C. He has many other relatives on the east and west coast of Canada as well as in the U.S.A. Several were on his regular e-mail list. Many thanks are due his caregivers both professional and those close friends who spent countless hours at his side over the past months. RISPLER, Bruce Charles 1939 - 2007 Bruce Charles Rispler was born in Caslan, Alberta, and lived and worked in many places throughout the province. He moved to Calgary thirty years ago and established a career in accounting, a profession to which he was well suited. Bruce was a dedicated smoker who loved strong coffee and rich foods. He was an expert at crossword puzzles and enjoyed playing cribbage. He was often a very private man with a dry sense of humour and a stubborn will, but was also a kind man with a boyish charm and a soft spot for children and animals. Our dad died on November 11, 2007, at the age of 68 years. He will be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched, but especially by his three children Kevin, Amanda and Teresa. WILLIAMSON, David Gordon - Passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at his home in Calgary at the age of 48. From 1990 until his resignation in 2006 due to health problems, David was one of the safest and most conscientious drivers for the Calgary Handi-Bus Association. Despite his many health issues, he always kept his wit and sense of humor. Having to overcome many obstacles, he was always keen to work; after leaving Handi-Bus he worked at Petland and was most recently employed with Wal-Mart. He loved camping and the outdoors and spent many summers camping in Alberta and British Columbia with his mother, his nephew Justin, and friends. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a loving uncle to his four nephews. He is survived by his sister Laurel (Marc) Holmes of San Francisco, CA and his brother Bob (Trish) and their children, Justin, Reece, Zachary and Jordan, of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur in 1989 and his mother, Margaret in 2002.
