LEVEQUE, Russell Pierre 1910 - 2007 Russell Pierre Leveque, born Saturday, October 29, 1910 in Medicine Hat, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2007 in Calgary, at the age of 97 years. Russell was a lifelong entrepreneur and one of the pioneers of oil and gas development in Alberta. He was a gifted pianist and will always be remembered for his wit and generous nature. Russell is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by a son, Peter (Jean) Leveque; three grandchildren, Peter Leveque, Christopher Leveque and Anne (Brian) Simpson and their mother, Marianne Leveque; five great-grandchildren, Chantal, Jeffery and Danielle Leveque, and William and Megan Simpson; sister-in-law, Phyllis Ross; and dear friends, Doug and Loretta McMillan. Devoted grandfather of Jason, Eilis, Liam, Sarah, Jamie and Aran Short; Kaitlin Butler Rees; Aislinn and Rebecca Old. Great-grandfather of Vimy Grant and Mya and Lana Cardinal. Much loved brother of Frances Dunbar (Calgary) and dear friend of former son-in-law John Butler (St. Catharines). Since moving from Calgary in 1965, Alan was a proud resident of Old Oakville and was the first president of the Oakville Lakeside Residents' Association. He was an active member of St. Jude's Anglican Church in Oakville. His gentle wisdom and kindness will be sadly missed by all who knew him. WALKER, Kathleen Alice September 13, 1920 - November 9, 2007 Kathleen Alice Walker of Calgary passed away after a long battle with cancer, with her family by her side, on Friday, November 9, 2007 at the age of 87 years. Kathleen was born and raised in Hanna, moving to Exshaw in 1947. She moved to Banff and then retired in Calgary in 1973. Kathleen was one independent lady, however, she was always the strength of her family. We will miss her deeply now that she is retiring in peace. Kathleen is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lauretta and John Pedhirney of Calgary, Kathy Walker and Garry of Salmon Arm, BC; and her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Linda Walker of Balgonie, SK. She is also survived by her brother Bill Roberts of Ontario; her seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Sister Carolyn Schan - (Sister M. St. Armand) - It is with great sadness that The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie announce the sudden death of Sister Carolyn Schan (Sister St. Armand) on Sunday, November 11, 2007, in Nairobi, Kenya. Born in Fort William, Sister Carolyn entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in February 1959. Sister Carolyn continued her education completing a B.A. and M.Ed. at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay. Sister Carolyn's teaching career took her to Nassau, Sudbury, Fort William, Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay serving as teacher, vice-principal and principal. Following retirement from the position of vice-principal at St. Joseph's-Scollard Hall, North Bay, Sister Carolyn responded to a call to become involved in missionary work. Her missionary zeal, combined with a concept of Church' went beyond the boundaries of our catholic tradition. Sister Carolyn became a volunteer with the Mennonite Central Committee in Bolivia where she worked in Community Development as Director of an orphanage and later in establishing library programs. In 1994, Sister Carolyn moved to Kenya where she lived and worked with Maasai women supporting and assisting them in marketing their handcrafts. It was here that Sister Carolyn also assisted in the development of a girls' school named Restore Hope enabling girls to acquire the necessary skills to support themselves and their families. Sister Carolyn embraced the Maasai people, culture and language with sensitivity, compassion and concern. She will be remembered and celebrated as educator and missionary committed to justice for all. Predeceased by her parents, Rae and Alice Schan, and her sister Sharon Mintenko (Billy, deceased), Sister Carolyn is survived by her brothers Raymond (Judy), Andy (Stephanie) and Michael and her sisters Margaret Mills (Chuck), Wynn Capricci (Laurie) and Barbara Schan (Bob Andrews), several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and her extended Maasai family Agnes and her grandson Raymond. WIACEK, Joseph Marian - The family announces with great sorrow the passing of Joseph Marian Wiacek, peacefully at the Stedman Community Hospice on Sunday, November 11, 2007. Beloved son of the late Joseph and Mary Wiacek; dear brother of Dr. Wilhelmina Wiacek, Bernard, and sister-in-law Josephine Wiacek; predeceased by brothers Edmund, Theodore and Adolphe, and sisters Stephanie Wolak, Valeria Dudley and Kay Wiacek. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Joseph was in the first graduating class of the Brantford Catholic High School (presently St. John's College). He attended St. Michael's College, University of Toronto, and subsequently graduated as a gold medalist from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1953. He was a partner at Trepanier, Hagey, Kneale and Wiacek and most recently Counsel to the law firm of Trepanier Verity. Joseph served as president and secretary of the Brant Law Association, president of the Brant County Legal Aid Committee, a member of the Brantford Committee of Adjustment, president of the Optimist Club of Brantford, secretary of the Brantford Downtown Association, chairman of the Board of Governors of St. John's College, president of St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish since its foundation and served as a Trustee of the St. Joseph's Parish Memorial Scholarship Fund. He was also a dedicated member of the St. Joseph's Parish Choir, and an ardent supporter of the musical life of Brantford. The family will receive friends at the “THORPE BROTHERS' FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL“, 96 West Street, on Wednesday from 2 to 9 pm with CWL Rosary at 3 pm and Parish Prayers at 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 235 Brant Avenue, on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 11 am followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery. RYDALL, Richard (Dick) - Passed away peacefully at the Grand River Hospital, K-W Health Centre on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the age of 60 years. Beloved husband of Ruth (nee Jack). Loving father of Angela Rydall, Crystal Hogg (David), Shannon Ernest (Michael) and Amanda Rydall (Scott MacDonald). MCGOVARIN, Carol Jewel Evangline - On November 9th at Sunnybrook Hospital at the age of 63 after a brief illness and surrounded by her family, Carol went to be with her Lord. Loving wife of Fred, affectionate mother of Sherry, Michael, Annalise, Christine, Julie and their partners and attentive Nana to Christina, Domenico, Destany, Jolon and Melia. Carol will ever be remembered by all her family, many relatives and expanding list of dear friends. Predeceased by sisters Joyce McGregor and Viola Meecham and brothers Harold, Walter and Garth, Carol is survived by sister Shirley McKean and brothers Alfred, Garnet and Eddie who has never ceased to be her special friend. Always deeply involved in church life, Carol spent the last three years with her husband Fred in the Turks and Caicos Islands establishing a Christ centered skills training centre and the island's first home for children. Many friends from the Island treasure her loyal friendship.
