PERPETE, Stella - It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Stella Perpete on November 8th, 2007 at Pioneer Manor in her 87th year. Predeceased by her dearest husband Frank Perpete. Daughter of the late Henry Picard and Pamela (Royal) of Chapleau, Ontario. Stella will be dearly missed by her loving daughter Beatrice Michael and son George Perpete (wife Betty). Cherished grandmother of Kevin, Steven, Linda and Melissa, and her nine great grandchildren. Stella worked many years for the Ontario Government in the Post Office, Switch Board, and the Grocery Store at the Burwash Correctional Centre until its closing in 1974. She and husband Frank moved to Sudbury in that year where they both retired. Stella loved doing needlepoint and working in her garden at the cottage before tragically losing her eyesight. She was a very private individual who expressed great love, generosity and support for all her family.Cremation at Park Lawn Crematorium. PIPER, Stanley David - Suddenly at his home in Azilda, on Sunday, November 11, 2007 in his 90th year. Stan Piper (formerly of Powassan) was predeceased by his wife Edna Eileen (Farley) (1922-1987). He was the beloved father of Eleanor Rumley (Tom) of Azilda and Donald Piper (Cora) of Dundas. He will be lovingly remembered by seven grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Stan was predeceased by his siblings Margaret Aultman and Robert, Lawson, William and Archie Piper. YIP, Victoria (nee Lore) Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years on November 11, 2007 in Ottawa, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Quene (1994), who she faithfully supported during their 62 years of marriage. She was born in 1911 in Victoria, B.C, the first child of Chinese scholar Lore Neen and Chan Ling Ching. Her father instilled in her an appreciation of art, nature, beauty, and a love of learning. At the age of eleven, Victoria's mother passed away, leaving her to care for three younger sisters (Louise, Mary, Helen) and two younger brothers (Martin, Abraham), while still attending Chinese school and English school. She later taught Chinese school, while working to help support the family. In 1935 she married Quene, 16th son of Chinese Canadian patriarch, Yip Sang, and over the years Victoria became a beloved member of this very large and well known Vancouver family. In 1942, Victoria and Quene left Vancouver with their young family and settled in Blubber Bay, a small coastal community on Texada Island, where Quene worked as a chemist. Over the next twenty-five years, while caring for three growing boys, Victoria actively participated in many community activities such as the PTA, recreation association, United Church, and bridge clubs. She also taught painting, brought in a Shakespearean play, and even produced and directed a play featuring local children. She was renowned for her fabulous Chinese meals and made many lifelong friends on the island. Victoria welcomed and extended her hospitality to all those around her, regardless of whether they were blood relations or not. In 1967, Victoria and Quene moved back to Vancouver where she later worked as a buyer in Ming Wo Cookware. In 1980, she "officially retired" but continued to share her stories and experiences in the film "Saltwater City" and the book "Voices of Chinese Canadian Women", as well as with Chinese Canadian historical writers like Paul Yee and Wayson Choy. Two other artistic passions in her life were Chinese opera, which she attended in Victoria and Vancouver in the 1920's and 1930's, and oil painting, which she pursued in her fifties and sixties. In 2003, Victoria moved to the Amherst nursing home in Vancouver. Two years later, she moved to the Glebe Centre nursing home, and she spent her final days at the Ottawa General Hospital. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff for their dedicated and compassionate care, and special thanks to her wonderful longtime caregivers, Carolina and Ann. Victoria will be lovingly remembered for her strength, generosity, kindness, love and devotion to her family and her many, many friends and relatives. She is survived by sister Louise, sons Rick (late Angeline), Randall (Brenda Austin) and Robert (Lisa), grandchildren Jill, Andrew, Karen, Jennifer (and partners), and Sophie, Melissa and Alison and also great-grandchildren Benjamin, Andrew and Eveline. He is survived by his loving wife Linda Mulvey; son Sam and daughter Rita; stepsons Colin (Candace) and Andrew Campbell; his parents John and Anne Penner of St. Catharines; brothers Ralph (Kathy) of Winnipeg and John (Julie) of Toronto; sisters Janice Penner (Tim) of Niverville and Colleen Froese (Gary) of Kitchener; and many nieces and nephews. Gerry moved to Manitoba at the age of 19 to attend Winkler Bible School and later settled in Winnipeg. He worked at various jobs in Winnipeg and was employed with Centra Gas and Manitoba Hydro for the past 27 years. He enjoyed many sports including golf, cross country skiing and hockey. He was a caring, loving person who had many friends, with some friendships spanning over thirty years. Gerry loved to drop in on friends and have coffee. Many friends enjoyed fellowship with Gerry in church and friends at Beginning Experience will miss his caring smile and kind words. Gerry had a strong faith in God which gave him courage and hope during his recent illness. He was very thoughtful of others and giving of himself, and never complained to the end. He will be sadly missed by his wife and family. The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Oncology, especially Dr. Ralph Wong and nurse Denise and the staff on 5E at St. Boniface General Hospital for his care. STEWART, Frances Elizabeth (Weir) - Peacefully at Marshall Gowland Manor, Sarnia on Saturday November 10, 2007 FRANCES ELIZABETH (WEIR) STEWART, Age 90, formerly of Brigden has joined her husband Andrew Stewart (1990) in heaven. Frances was born in Scarborough Township on September 19, 1917 and was married to Andy in August 1941 on the Weir farm in St. Mary's. She is survived by her sons William (friend Joanne) of Guelph and Donald (Geraldine) of Mooretown. Grandchildren Andrew (Allison), Scott (Rosie) and Paul Stewart, Brian (Pat) Stewart of Mooretown, Carolyn (Joe) Stonehouse of Corunna. Great grandchildren Tavin Stewart; Matthew, Michael and Kate Stewart; Tyler and Nathan Mater; Beau, Brett and Ben Stonehouse. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Frances was a teacher for a few years before getting married. Frances and Andy moved to Brigden in 1951 with their sons and operated the Purity Creamery and Frances ran the Dairy Bar until almost 70 years of age. Frances and Andy spent many winters in Florida and she continued her trips south after Andy was gone. She was involved in the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter 39, Womens Institute, Brigden United Church U.C.W and the Brigden Fair, where they were able to win many prizes for their roses, baking and crafts. She was also an astute bridge player. She is predeceased by her parents Roy and Sybil (Sellers) Weir, brother Lloyd Weir and his wife Marion, sisters Margaret Howe and her husband Herb, Gladys Strahan and her husband Carl, brothers-in-law Tom Stewart and his wife Marion, Mel Stewart and his wife Evelyn. Friends will be received at STEADMAN BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, BRIGDEN on Thursday, November 15, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with Funeral Service on Friday, November 16th at 1:00 pm.
