Survived by son David John MacKellar and two granddaughters, Katie MacKellar and Sandy MacKellar, and special friend Ray Procknow. MacLEOD, Donald Welsh December 30, 1918 - October 31, 2007 Died peacefully in VGH one week after suffering a stroke. Predeceased in 1995 by Anne, his wife and life companion for forty-nine years, Don is survived by two sons, Scott (Adele) of Duncan, BC and Howard (Libby) of Calgary, AB; three grandsons, Walker (Kristen), and Kyle of Calgary, Angus of Edmonton; one sister, Joan Imhoff of Parksville; niece and nephew, Dana and Kurt of Denver, CO; cousin, Ian Harlock of Qualicum. Don was born in Athabasca, AB, attended school in Victoria, served in England, Sicily and Italy during World War II (PPCLI), farmed in Athabasca following the war, worked as a loans officer for Farm Credit in St. Paul and Wainwright, AB, served on various boards and committees, and, in retirement, returned to live and play in Victoria. Don enjoyed model trains and boats, woodworking, reading, a lively debate, a good meal, investing, spending time with his friends, and just generally "running the show". Don's greatest passion however, was reserved for his two sons, of whom he was immensely proud. Just as it takes a community to raise a child, so, too, does it take a community to support and sustain our elders; to all those who companioned, befriended, nursed, comforted and in their various ways cared for Don, the family owes a debt of gratitude. MERRICK, Harold Oswel Harold Oswel passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the age of 92 years. He is survived by one daughter Joy Cline and her husband Dr. John Cline of Nanaimo, B.C.; a son Gordon and wife Michelle (nee Bugbee) of Calgary; and four granddaughters, Jayme and Jennifer Cline, Sarah and Felicity Merrick. He was predeceased by his wife Helen (nee Woodrow) in 1991 and an infant son Robert Harold in 1960 and an infant granddaughter Julie in 1990. Harold was born in Tacoma, Washington and came to Rainier, Alberta at the age of four. He graduated from Calgary Normal School in 1935 and taught in country schools for four years. He served five and a half years in the Canadian Army during World War II in Britain and Europe, in the 13th Field Regiment R.C.A. and was a veteran of the D-Day landings. Following six years in the refrigeration trade he spent twenty-eight years as an instructor at S.A.I.T. where he developed the refrigeration and air conditioning programs, retiring in 1980. He was a long-time member of Hillhurst United Church and was an active volunteer with Meals-on-Wheels and the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank until his ninetieth birthday. He was awarded the Heart of Calgary award in 2006 from Volunteer Calgary. He always enjoyed his many visits and time with family and friends all of his days. Special thanks to the Caregivers, and Doctors, at Agape Hospice who took great care of him up until his passing. MCRAE, Mary Agnes - Mary died peacefully at the Leaside Retirement Residence, Toronto, on Tuesday, November 6 2007 in her 78th year. Dear sister of Robert (Joan) of Peterborough. Loving aunt of Douglas McRae of Brighton. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Ian and Lena McRae, and by her nephew Ian. She is fondly remembered by her cousin, James Corrigan of Evanston, Illinois and by her Vancouver cousins. D'AOUST, MYRA B. - Our beloved mother, Myra Bernice (Colwell) D'Aoust, wife of the late J.H.A.O. (Johnny) D'Aoust, departed this life at home at Jemseg, N.B. on Thursday, November 8, 2007. She was born in 1924, the daughter of the late Milton and Frances (Olmstead) Colwell. She will be sorely missed by her children; Catherine (Harold) of Bartholomew, N.B., Milton (Susan) and Allan (Karen) of Jemseg; and her grandchildren, John and Robb Wood, Nicole Laflamme, Danielle Connell, Emily and Catherine D'Aoust as well as Brennan and Hillary Casey and her great grandchildren, Maddie and Jim Wood and her nieces Dawn and Heather. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her older siblings Merville and Edrey. Myra was a graduate of Gagetown Grammer School, attended Dalhousie University and served in the Women's Division, RCAF from 1942 to 1945. She and her husband farmed in Jemseg and for over forty years she was a dedicated weaver with the world famous Loomcrothers of Gagetown. Myra was a charter member and then a life member of the Jemseg Women's Institute and the Queens County Historical Society and Museum, both of which she served faithfully. At her request there will be no visitation, however, there will be a private family funeral service at St. James Anglican Church on Monday, November 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM. Following the funeral service, the public is invited to attend a reception at the Jemseg Lion's Hall at 3:00 PM, to celebrate her life. KUKUCSKA, Anthony (Tony) Sr. – God called his devoted believer, gardener and fix-it man back to His side. This most kind and gentle family man passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 8th, 2007 at Millennium Trail Manor in Niagara Falls in his 93rd year. He was born February 15, 1915. Loved and cherished by his wife, Elizabeth, with all her strength for 62 years. Dearly loved father will be deeply missed by Tony Kukucska Jr. (Klara), Barbara Leblanc (Gil), and Nancy Tunney (Randy). Loving and proud grandfather will be sadly missed by Tania Carnegie (Chris), Brian Leblanc (Tania), and Laura Le (Steve). He will be sweetly remembered to great-grandchild Ava Le. He is survived by sisters Mary Stark (late Matt), Betty Kelly (late Jack), and Anne Papp (late Bob), brothers Michael Kukucska Sr. (Margaret), John Kukucska, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents Anthony and Helen Kukucska, sister Helen Teknos, and infant daughter Theresa Anne. Mr. Kukucska was a faithful member of The Parish Community of St. Kevin where he served as an usher for decades. He was also a member of the Hungarian Hall, the Hungarian Self-Culture Society and the Canadian Hungarian Christian Association. He retired from Atlas Specialty Steels after 37 years of service. The family will receive relatives and friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where Rev. Norman Bordage, CSC will conduct a Vigil at 2 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Parish Community of St. Kevin on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Mabel Patricia Chisholm Mabel P. Chisholm, with her loving family at her side, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday November 7, 2007. Born in Ohio, Antigonish County, NS, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Angus and Agnes (Delorey) MacLean. Mabel was a retired secretary at Atlantic Engine Rebuilders Ltd., Moncton; member of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society and the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, former member of the Moncton Curling Club and she enjoyed quilting and ceramics. GOSSELIN, Laurier - Mr. Laurier Gosselin passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Kirkland & District Hospital at the age of 84 years. Laurier was born on September 27, 1923 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He married his wife Alphonsine of 62 years on November 12, 1945 in Rouyn, Quebec. Together they lived in Larder Lake from 1946 to 2006 and then moved to Kirkland Lake. He was predeceased by his parents; son Pierre and his sister and brother. Laurier is survived by his wife Alphonsine; sons Roger (Sue) of St. John, New Brunswick, Donald (Lorraine) of Larder Lake, Raymond (Anita) of Yellowknife and Guy of Sudbury and daughter Carmen (Reg) Beaudoin of Kirkland Lake. He will be fondly remembered by his 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Laurier is also survived by his brother Normand (Priscilla) and nieces and nephews. It is with great sadness the family of Pierrette “Pete” Cté announces her death on Nov. 7, 2007, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Pete was happiest when her loving family and friends were close by, and she slipped away as they kept vigil by her side while singing her favourite songs. Pete is survived by her devoted brothers and sisters: Paul Cté (Juliette), Terry Whitton (Norm), Luke Cté (Annette), Frankie Morandin (late Guido), Marc Cté (Annette), Madeleine McTavish, Jeannine Foran (Ralph) and sister-in-law Colombe Cté. She was predeceased by her parents Omer and Marie Cté and her brother-in-law Guido Morandin. Pete also leaves behind many nieces and nephews of whom she was extremely proud and loved dearly. She adored her nieces' and nephews' children and beamed with pride when in their presence and when she spoke of them. Pete will be deeply missed by her close circle of friends. Pete touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a loyal sister and friend and was never one to miss out on the fun. She was quick to respond to anyone who needed her help and would give willingly and without hesitation. Pete worked tirelessly all her life. She was an employee of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union in Kapuskasing before opening and working at Jen Lang Shoppe with her sisters for more than 30 years. She also worked for Morandin Dry Cleaning and, after retiring, was happy to give her time and attention to the children at École Sacré-Coeur where she worked daily yard duty. Pete always stayed busy and loved to be with people. She was very active within her church and was a long-time member of the McIntyre Curling Club and the Porcupine Dante Club Ladies Auxiliary. She will be missed by her friends in her investment group, poker and bridge clubs and breakfast club. The family is very grateful to Bayshore nurses Tania, Jennifer and Liz for the tender care provided to Pete. Special thanks to Dr. Gillies and Judy and Sharon in the oncology department at Timmins and District Hospital. MAHANEY, MARION (COLES) - The passing of Marion Mahaney (Coles), aged 97 occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, November 8th, 2007. Born in Brooklyn, Newfoundland; relocated to Saint John with her family at age 5. She is predeceased by her husband, Cecil Roy Mahaney; her parents Minnie and Job Coles; and two sisters, Lillian Brown and Carrie Morrow. She was a sister-in-law to the World Famous Mahaney Quadruplets, born on Christmas Day at home in 1923. She had previously worked at Manchester/Robertson/Allison (MRA's) Department Store as a seller, buyer and supervisor of the linen department. She loved to learn and prided herself in leading her class every school year with her lowest mark being 98. Two days before passing she could still recite poems, name all the counties of New Brunswick, and say the alphabet backwards; a true inspiration to us all. A diabetic for 62 years, her health battles were often great, but she never gave up. Even after she became blind she retained her wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by her 3 daughters; Marilyn Rodgerson and husband Peter, Frances Levesque, and Norma Wilson and her husband Lawrence with whom she lived with; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews. Visiting is at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, November 9th, 2007. A short graveside service will be held at Fernhill Cemetery on Saturday, November 10th at 11:00 am. Before her death she requested no flowers.
