HART, Nellie Irene (nee Zwicker) 1922 - 2007 Passed away peacefully on Monday October 29, 2007 at the age of 85 years. Nellie Zwicker, loving wife of the late Gordon Hart (2001). Beloved mother of Nadine Slight of Winnipeg, MB, Laura (Doug Mason) and John of Vernon, BC. Cherished grandmother to Jennifer, Colleen, Cheryl, Douglas, Alison, Sarah, Emily, Joshua, Jared and great grandchildren Tessa, Justin, Amanda, Nicole, Cole, Brady, Chase, Ian and Malcolm. Survived by her dear sister and forever friends, Laura Zwicker. The family sincerely wishes to thank the nursing staff of 5th floor East of the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre for their dedication and extraordinary care of mom during the final stages of her illness. Bill was born in Jasina, Czechoslovakia on December 23, 1921. Beloved husband of the late Janina Jakubowicz and by first marriage of the late Stella Jamza. Dear father of John and Steve Petruck. HERMOLIN, Rheta-Helen (nee Fischman) At Humber River Regional Hospital, October 27, at the age of sixty-eight years. Devoted daughter of the late Samson and Anna Fischman; adored sister of Sheila Fischman (Donald Winkler) and Marilyn Fischman (Robert Lewis); beloved companion of Octavio Gonzalez. A graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto, 1964, she was a member of the Pharmacy Department at Toronto East General Hospital for fourteen years, retiring in 2003. We are grateful to the medical and nursing staff in the respiratory ICU at Humber River Regional Hospital for their superb and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held in the Music Room at Hart House, Sunday, November 4, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to Amnesty International or to the Elgin and Area Heritage Society, P.O. OBITUARY OGNJEN KOVACEVIC (OGI) March 3, 1977 - Sept. 25, 2007 Passed away peacefully at the age of thirty after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his beloved family in his home country of Bosnia. Predeceased by his father Ranko. Survived by his one love, Andrea; His proud mother, Dragica; Cherished sisters, Svetlana and brother-in-law Ranko; Tatjana and brother-in-law Alex; as well as his sweet nieces and nephews. Ogi will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends. He will live in our hearts and souls forever. Funeral services were held September 28 in Bosnia. TEMPLETON - David Gibson Templeton passed away unexpectedly at London Health Sciences Center in London, Ont. on September 29th, 2007. David was born in Cambuslang, Scotland, January 18, 1922, son of the late James Bryden Templeton and Elizabeth Gibson Templeton. He came to Canada in 1926 with his parents and two brothers John and Robert. His family settled in Havelock, NB where he attended Havelock Superior School. He was a Veteran of World War II. Following the War he worked several places in Canada, eventually settling in London, Ont. where he married Gleneva "Glennie" Dickie from Cornhill, NB on August 9, 1952. He worked for 34 years with London Hydro, retiring in 1987. His wife predeceased him August 30, 2006. He is survived by one daughter Nelda Templeton of London as well as two brothers, Robert (Gertrude) of Havelock, N.B., James (Myrna) of Barrie, Ont., three sisters Elizabeth (Charles) Keith, Havelock, Margaret (late Harold) Wood, Fredericton, and Mary (late Eldon) Coates of Shediac, also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother John (late Jean) of Sussex, N.B. in 1998, as well as an infant older brother prior to coming to Canada. Funeral service was held at Westview Funeral Chapel in London, Ont. October 3rd with burial at Tyrconnell Cemetery, Wallacetown, Ont.. where his wife Glennie is also interred. A reception was held at the home of his nephew David Morris and wife Jennifer, Wallacetown. All of David's siblings were present for his funeral service as he died of a heart attack just a few hours before those from NB arrived in Ontario for a reunion of the family. October 31, 2007

BROWN, GORDON FRANCIS - The death of Gordon Francis Brown, husband of Betty (Morrow) Brown, occurred on October 30, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Harold P. and Loretta (Joyce) Brown. He was employed with Marine Atlantic, Princess of Acadia, retiring as a bartender in 1997. He was a member of St. Francis X Church, Sussex, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Council #8213. He had a great love of horses, being a trainer and owner, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, James of Saint John, Carol Brown (Frank MacDonald) of Oromocto; his brothers and sisters, Mary (Paddy) Powers of MA, Joyce (Chuck) Bugg of AB, Patricia Brown of Saint John, Ronnie Brown of Cambridge Narrows, Phyllis (Allen) McGrath of Saint John, Margaret Conway of Saint John, Fred (Cathy) Brown of Saint John, Harold (Elaine) Brown of Sussex Corner, Michael (Sandra) of Quispamsis, Cathy (Don) Coes of Quispamsis, Geraldine (Don) O'Hara of Saint John, Linda Brown of Toronto; brother-in law, Bobby (Betty) Morrow of Toronto; grandchildren, Jennifer and Brandon and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Eunice M. McCormack 1905-2007 Sackville, N.B.- The death of Eunice M. (Dixon) McCormack, age 101, occurred on Tuesday, October 30th, 2007, in the comfort of her home. One of Sackville's oldest residents, Eunice was just two weeks away from her 102nd birthday and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born on November 9th, 1905, in Sackville, N.B., she was the daughter of the late James Leaman and Margaret Olivia Louise (Avard) Dixon. Eunice graduated from Mount Allison University in 1928 and went on to teach at Mount Allison Academy. In 1932, Eunice married Major Waldo McCormack. She was a charter member of the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a longtime and active member of the Sackville United Church, member of the U.C.W and member of the Women's Fellowship of the Sackville United Church. Eunice was known for her great interest and knowledge of history and genealogy. In her later years, one of Eunice's greatest pleasures was going to eat at the Bell Inn in Dorchester, N.B. and meeting and talking with people. She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Joyce Dixon of Sackville, N.B. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Waldo McCormack; by her only child Marjorie McCormack and by her two brothers Edgar and Carman. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). The family will receive visitors on Thursday, November 1, 2007 from 2-4 PM at Campbell's Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place from the Funeral Home on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 11 AM, with Father Kevin Stockall officiating. Burial will take place in the Sackville Cemetery. Viola Catherine (Carter) Martin Viola Catherine (Carter) Martin of 10 Queen St Miramichi, NB passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital with her family at her side on Tuesday, Oct 30th. Born in Kouchibouguac, November 24, 1921 the daughter of the late Clifford & Evelyn (Myers) Carter. Those who knew her will remember her as a woman of great faith, a loving mother and friend and an avid gardener and great cook. Mary Eileen Lewis Mary Eileen Lewis (Delahunt) of Fredericton died peacefully at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Monday, October 29th, 2007 at the age of 87. Born on December 9th, 1919 in Moncton, N.B. to the late John and Maude Delahunt, she was the beloved wife for 60 wonderful years of the late Laurence Wilson Lewis. Eileen leaves behind many happy memories of life lived to the fullest with her large and sometimes noisy family, who always brought her great joy and happiness. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends alike for her kind and gentle spirit, her deep commitment to her faith, her love of a good joke, and her apple pies. She was the loving and devoted mother of Donald Lewis (Monique) of Dartmouth, Robert Lewis (Patricia) of Fredericton, Margaret Wickett of Ottawa, Bruce Lewis (Val Biskupski) of Fredericton, Carol McCoombs (Gerry) of Fredericton, and Kathy Lewis (Brent Hickman) of Halifax. She was the cherished grandmother of her thirteen grandchildren, John, Robert (Adelle Pratt) and Michael (Mimi) Wickett, Steven (Stacy Coy), David and Andrew Lewis, Brian, Michael and Katherine Lewis, Kelly Murray (Terry) and Jennifer McCoombs, Ben and Laura Hickman, and her six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Russell, Maxwell and Elisa Wickett, and Thomas Lewis. She also leaves behind her youngest brother, William (Kay) Delahunt of Moncton. MOORHEAD, JANET JOYCE (GARROW) The passing of Janet Joyce (Garrow) Moorhead, of Burtt's Corner, NB wife of Jim Moorhead, occurred on Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 24, 1935 in Kenora, ON, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Adzine (Caron) Garrow. Janet loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, they were the love of her life. She enjoyed watching the Blue Jays. In addition to her husband Jim, Janet is survived by her daughters, Charlene (Norman) McTaggart of Burtt's Corner, NB and Darlene Moorhead of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Todd Jennings of Stouffville, ON and Victoria Reid (Charles Clark) of Burtt's Corner, NB; sister, Gloria (Larry) Krutz of Surrey, BC; brother, Percy (Eva) Garrow of Kenora, ON; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by sisters, Betty Hunter and Bernice Letain; brothers, Ray, Stanley and Gordon Garrow. PARENT Soeur Irène PARENT (Soeur Irène) Est décédée au Monastère des Augustines de Chicoutimi, le 30 octobre 2007, à l'âge de 90 ans et 2 mois, Soeur Irène Parent A.M.J. (en religion Soeur Marie-de-la-Présentation). Elle comptait 68 ans de profession religieuse. Née à Saint-Prime, Lac-St-Jean, de Léonide Boudreault et de Abraham Parent. Soeur Irène a exercé sa profession d'infirmière à l'Hôtel-Dieu St-Vallier de Chicoutimi. En 1955, elle est choisie parmi les fondatrices de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Notre-Dame de l'Assomption à Jonquière, où elle assume la responsabilité des laboratoires jusqu'à son retour au monastère de Chicoutimi en 1968. Par la suite, elle enseigne en « Technique de Laboratoire médical » au CEGEP de Chicoutimi. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée au Parloir de la Communauté 225 rue St-Vallier Chicoutimi le vendredi 2 novembre 2007 de 14 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 21 h. CALDWELL, Helen Mary 1921 - 2007 Helen Caldwell passed away on October 29, 2007. She was predeceased by her mother Frieda Alexander Caldwell, her father Lewis W. Caldwell, and her brother Lewis W. Caldwell, Jr. Miss Caldwell was the granddaughter of Dr. Robert A. Alexander of Grimsby, Ontario and the great-granddaughter of the Rev. James Lynn Alexander, who settled in Grimsby from Ireland in 1800. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Col. Robert Nelles, a United Empire Loyalist, who was one of the earliest pioneers to settle in the Grimsby district. She was also a great-granddaughter of Col. Alfred Booker and Eliza Pettit of Huguenot ancestry. She will be lovingly remembered by Neil and Darcie Bentley, Darcie's daughter Alicia, and Helen's many friends and neighbours. Miss Caldwell worked for the Imperial Bank (later the CIBC) until her retirement in 1984. She was also a member of the Glencoe Club since its inception, and enjoyed competitive figure skating and swimming for most of her life. Helen devoted years of service to her Lord through teaching Sunday School and praying for innumerable people as leader of the Prayer Chain at Christ Church. GRAHAM, Ewen B. "Pip" Pip was born in Calcutta, India on October 31, 1930, grew up in England and moved to Canada in 1956. He spent a full life at Graham Ranches at Millarville, Alta., and Hornby Island, B.C. He gently passed away in Victoria on October 20, 2007. Pip was educated at Cambridge; there he met Nicki, his beloved wife of fifty-four years. Pip worked to develop the equestrian sport of 3-Day Eventing nationally and internationally as a course designer, technical delegate and organizer. His involvement in numerous Olympic Games were marked by professionalism and attention to detail. He founded The Tack Shop in Calgary, one of Canada's largest equestrian supply companies. An accomplished rally driver, he placed second overall in the 1966 Shell 4000 Rally with navigator Henry Acteson. In 1982, Pip and Nicki moved to Hornby Island. They explored the coast to Alaska on their boat Lonely Bird, and spent winters in Maui. Pip is remembered as a true gentleman, with a heart of gold and an incredible sense of humour. He will be missed by his wife Nicki; and children Juliet, Arifin Andrew (Wiluya), Nicholas (Margot) and Tessa; and grandchildren Annie Bishop Onda (Rob), and Christopher and India Graham; and brother Nigel and family of Nairn, Scotland. HARRIS, Frederick James Sr. 1913 - 2007 It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Frederick James Harris Sr. on Monday, October 29, 2007 at the age of 94 years. Fred will be forever remembered by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Charlotte; son Fred Harris Jr. (Alex); daughter Margaret Dippel (Ole); sisters Minnie Kosior and Orah (Clarence) Hagen. Fred was born and raised in Medicine Hat, AB on a dairy farm and married his childhood sweetheart in 1939. He was a radar technician in the R.C.A.F. in World War II. Fred operated a hardware store in Turner Valley, and then became a teacher at the Turner Valley High School and Crescent Heights High School in Calgary. After retirement, Fred became an ordained minister in the Anglican Church. His greatest love was God and his family, and his greatest pleasures were fishing and woodwork. WATTERS, Dorothy "Bernice" (nee Northcott) August 20, 1922 - October 22, 2007 Dorothy (Bernice) passed away peacefully at the Airdrie Bethany Care Centre on Monday, October 22, 2007 at the age of 85 years. Bernice is survived by her loving husband of nearly sixty-four years Harold; son Roger (Brenda) Watters, daughters Kathleen (Murray) Pearen, Valerie (Harry) Hall; also survived by grandchildren Keith (Shannon) Hall, Jennifer (fiance Ryan) Hall, Chad (fiancee Jenn) Pearen and Teresa Pearen; and one great-grandchild Alexis Hall. She was predeceased by her parents George and Bertie Northcott, brother Earl Northcott and brother-in-law Larry Saunders. Bernice was born on the farm at Balzac then moving to the Airdrie area where she devoted her life to her family, friends and farm work. WOODS, Dennis Stewart August 11, 1938 - October 30, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Woods of Calgary at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis worked as a Millwright at the CPR Ogden Shops until his retirement in 1991 and more recently could be seen around western Canada with his M&M Meat Shops companion "Max the Bull". Dennis touched many lives and will be lovingly remembered as a gentle and hard-working man. He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-six years, Sylvia and their children Jeff (Kerri) Woods and Jackie (Kevin) Gruber; his grandchildren Stephanie, Torri, Tayden and Jordan; his brother Al (Elaine) and family; and numerous extended family and friends. Dennis was predeceased by his grandson Jacee Dennis in 1996. This is to have succeeded." The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. And the guide said, "Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning. But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, she fed them and bathed them and taught them how to tie their shoes and ride a bike and reminded them to feed the dog & cat and do their homework and brush their teeth. The sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this." Then the nights came and the storms and the path was sometimes dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the Mother drew them close and covered them with her arms, and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come." And the morning came and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the Mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children," A little patience and we are there." So the children climbed and as they climbed they learned to weather the storms. And with this she gave them strength to face the world. Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding, hope, but most of all, unconditional love. And when they reached the top they said, "Mother we would not have done it without you." The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years and the Mother grew old and she became little and bent. But her children were tall and strong and walked with courage. And the Mother, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned so much and are now passing these traits on to their children." And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her and gave her their strength, just as she had given them hers. One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill, they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And the Mother said, "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads held high, and so can their children after them." And the children said, "You will always walk with us Mother, even when you have gone through the gates." And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. Charles Walter Johnson May 23, 1910 - October 30, 2007 "C.W." departed peacefully into eternity, at Burlington, Ontario in his 98th year. Born at Humber Bay, Toronto, the eldest of ten children, to William Henry Johnson and Eva Elizabeth Newman. Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret Ellen Pridham, in 2006. Dearest father to Ann and her husband Roger, Donald and his wife Teri, David and his wife Mary-Anne, and Mark. Loving "Poppa" to Christopher, Sarah, Jason (Ali), Andrew (Kim), Lucas and Charlie. Great-grandpa to Aynsley, Reid and Ethan. Loved and respected uncle to many nieces and nephews. Survived by sisters Frances Blair (George), Bunny, "Jimmy", Betty and youngest brother Don (Mary). Predeceased by brothers Pete and Ted and sisters Florence Elliott and Peggy Steel. A graduate of Mimico High School, Walter was awarded the King's Scout designation in 1926 and was an active member of the West End YMCA. Moving to Burlington in 1951, he became a founding member of the Burlington YMCA and served as a long time member of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Fruit & Growers' Association and the Halton Wentworth Growers' Association. As a lifelong market gardener and grower and always devoted to his beloved "Burnside Farm", Walter participated for decades in the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair both as director, judge and exhibitor. He took great pleasure in judging at the Ancaster and Milton Fall Fairs where his involvement with children gave him great pleasure. Always a gentleman, Dad was a true symbol of the ethics and character that his generation of Johnsons epitomized, the patriarch of the family, exhibiting great strength and fortitude to the end. Dad, we shall always miss your sense of humour, support and love, especially your twinkling blue eyes and welcoming smile. Thank you for sharing your wonderfully long and fulfilling life with all of us.
