HILL, Hugh BTh, MA, MLIS - The family is saddened to announce that suddenly, as the result of a recent illness, Hugh Hill, Library director at Emmanuel Bible College, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2007 in his 50th year. Hugh was the loving husband and best friend to Gail (nee McMillan) and adoring Dad to Liam and Miriam. He is survived by his father Stanley Hill, sister Alexis Dixon (Scott) of Orangeville, and brother John of Kitchener, Hugh was loved as a son by in-laws Don & Eileen McMillan of Owen Sound, and also leaves brother-in-law Eldon McMillan (Linda), sisters-in-law, Sheila Tedford (Richard) and Carol Walker (Wayne) all of Owen Sound. Also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Elva (1989). Ernest Hugh Knowles Hill was born in Ballymena, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland on August 14, 1958, Hugh emigrated to Canada as a child with his family, residing first in Toronto and then Brampton, and following his marriage to Gail, the family settled in Kitchener, were both Liam and Miriam were born. Hugh was an ardent student of many forms of literature, but was particularly well-read in his field of Christian theology. He was a passionate collector of books and loved to search out new titles to acquire. As an ardent bird-watcher, he also amassed a collection of prints and water colours depicting many of his favourites. An accomplished musician Hugh expressed his abilities in practical ways through he and Gail's involvement in the music ministry at several Kitchener churches, most recently Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Tuesday, October 30 from 7- 9p.m. and again on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the HENRY WALSER FUNERAL HOME 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Légaré Carmichael Rita 1923 - 2007 Au Centre Saint-Augustin, Québec, le 28 octobre 2007, à l’âge de 84 ans et 8 mois, est décédée dame Rita Légaré, épouse de monsieur Maurice Carmichael. Originaire de Beauport, madame y a toujours habité. Elle était la fille de feu dame Bernadette Lemelin et de feu monsieur Théophile Légaré. McLEOD, Charles Marshall - April 21, 1932 - October 24, 2007 - Charlie died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday night. Charlie was born at Northslope Farm on the 8th Line of the former Nottawasaga Township, and lived there his entire life. He married Maureen Carollyn Herrington on October 30, 1964, and together they raised three children on the farm amid much rowdy laughter and hard work. Charlie is survived by his wife, sons Alex and Ian, daughter Mariane, daughter-in-law Kathy, son-in-law Charlie Rentner and by Delia Iafrate. He adored his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Connor and Rosaleigh. He was predeceased by his sister Jean Yeager and brothers-in-law Joe Yeager and Dean Potts. Charlie will be sorely missed by his surviving siblings: Don and Betty McLeod, Hazel and Harry Rowley, Marion and Bill Gordon, Phyllis Potts, Mildred and Jim Walker, Helen and Ron Wright. He will be fondly remembered by 32 nieces and nephews, their children and a wide extended family. Charlie will be missed for his gentle ways and quiet, quick wit. Visitation with the family at Fawcett's Funeral Home in Creemore on Friday, October 26 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Devin Anthony Thompson 1990 - 2007 Devin Anthony Thompson of Rexton, N.B., passed away on Monday, October 29th, 2007 as the result of a motor vehicle accident. This is to have succeeded." The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. And the guide said, "Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning. But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, she fed them and bathed them and taught them how to tie their shoes and ride a bike and reminded them to feed the dog & cat and do their homework and brush their teeth. The sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this." Then the nights came and the storms and the path was sometimes dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the Mother drew them close and covered them with her arms, and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come." And the morning came and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the Mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children," A little patience and we are there." So the children climbed and as they climbed they learned to weather the storms. And with this she gave them strength to face the world. Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding, hope, but most of all, unconditional love. And when they reached the top they said, "Mother we would not have done it without you." The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years and the Mother grew old and she became little and bent. But her children were tall and strong and walked with courage. And the Mother, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned so much and are now passing these traits on to their children." And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her and gave her their strength, just as she had given them hers. One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill, they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And the Mother said, "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads held high, and so can their children after them." And the children said, "You will always walk with us Mother, even when you have gone through the gates." And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. COOLEY, William Ronald (Bob) of Stratford and formerly Niagara Falls passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Monday, October 29, 2007 in his 89th year. Born in Belleville he was a son of the late William R. (Jeff) Cooley and Olive (Wright) Cooley. Bob's parents were born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's, settling in the Niagara Region. During WWII Bob served with the Canadian Corps of Engineers and was awarded a dispatch for distinguished service. On Aug. 7, 1948 Bob married Dorothy Louise (Doris) Harrod in Niagara Falls where they lived until moving to Stratford in 1965. Bob was employed for over 45 years with Dominion Chain; was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Stratford Branch #8; a life member of the International Association of Machinists and a member of the Stratford Masonic Lodge #332. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He was predeceased by his wife Doris on May 26, 2006. Dear father of Dana William Cooley and friend Elaine Lindsay of Collingwood and the late Brian Michael Cooley. Also survived by daughter-in-law Margie McGibbon and husband Greg of Gadshill; grandchildren Luc & Julia Cooley, Gena Cooley-McGibbon and Jeremy McGibbon; 1 sister Margaret Marshall of North Carolina and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was also predeceased by 1 brother Charles Bruce Cooley. FLEMING, Richard Michael Georges. June 22, 1942 - October 25, 2007. Richard passed away after a long battle with cancer, in the arms of his wife and family. He was the loving son of the late Marie Juliette Gauthier and Walter Richard Fleming. Cherished husband and soul mate to Orysia Wywiorka, brother to Anthony (Rhea), Mark (Jean) and Michael. Devoted father to Oksanna (Frank). Stepfather to Natalka Lee (David) and William Gach (Sharon). Loving grandfather to Elizabeth (Chay), Krista, Carolyn, Samantha, Mario and Erik. Brother-in-law to Helen DeVincentis (John). Uncle of many nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn, many friends. Richard will be fondly remembered by the many students whose lives he touched as a devoted teacher and as a respected principal at the Sault-St-Louis School Board. He found great pleasure in reading (several books at a time) and enjoyed listening to fine music. He was always keen to learn something new, he even learned to speak Ukrainian. His gentle nature and sincere demeanor left a lasting impression. He was well known for his quick wit and dry humour, which we will all miss. The family is sincerely grateful to the doctors and nurses in Oncology who lovingly cared for him over the years at St. Mary's Hospital. Bruce's passions were music, Scrabble, table hockey, family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for those things as well as for his gracious, giving personality and his positive attitude toward every aspect of his life. VALCOURT, Leon Henry - In loving memory of Leon Henry Valcourt who passed away Thursday, October 25th, 2007 in Sudbury. Beloved son of Jean Valcourt (nee Robertson) of Edmonton, Alberta and the late Henry Valcourt. On most Sundays he would take his mom for a drive in the country or to their favourite restaurants. Those memorable times will be missed by his loving family.
