SALUS, (Price) Shirley Lorraine (Renee) Of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the age of 71 years. Renee was born and raised in Lethbridge and worked most of her life in the food industry. The last thirty years she has resided in Calgary. She is survived by her daughters Arlie (Gary) Green, Brisbane, Australia, Trish (Tim) Popel, Strathmore, Alberta and her loving grandchildren. She is also survived by her long-time companion Robert Green, her sisters Pat Rodzinyak and June Popp of Lethbridge, Ken (Sharon) Price of Nanaimo, B.C., Don (Val) of Regina, Saskatchewan. Renee was predeceased by two infant daughters, her parents Arlene and Bill Price, a nephew and two brothers-in-law. In keeping with Renee's wishes, her body has been offered to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen Ukrainian Catholic Church, at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2007. MACIAG, Tadeusz (Ted) August 1, 1927 - October 24, 2007 It is with profound sadness that the family of Ted Maciag announces his passing on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the age of 80 years, when he lost his long and courageous battle with lung disease. Ted was born in Poland on August 1, 1927. As a twelve-year-old, together with all his family, including elderly grandparents, he was forced out under the Soviet gun, from the home and "resettled" in Siberia (Perm), to work in the labour camps and forests. In 1941, the USSR was invaded by Hitler and "amnesty" allowed thousands of Poles to trek south to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan where the Polish Army was forming. Ted's long trek from the USSR led through Iran, Iraq, Africa and Palestine where he continued his high school, until he joined the Polish 2nd Corps under British Command in the Middle East. After the War, Ted came to England where he studied engineering in London. He loved his profession and was involved in many interesting projects in England, Ireland and further afield. He was a recipient of the Oscar Faber Medal. His distinguished career as a Structural Engineer led him to Calgary in the 1970's to work on the new Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Grandstand. Ted's greatest engineering challenge came as Calgary was chosen to host the Winter Olympic Games for 1988. Ted and his team were invited to design the Calgary Saddledome and other Olympic facilities and features. Ted was always delighted and proud to see the flags at the Canada Olympic Park and the Calgary Stampede as they fluttered in the breeze, hoisted on flagpoles anchored firmly in the bases which he designed. He loved Calgary and his initially temporary assignment extended to the rest of his life. He was a consummate engineer, dedicated, hard working to the last day of his life. Ted was a Fellow of the Institute of Structural Engineers in England, a Professional Engineer in Alberta and a member of the Canadian Prairies Group. He will be lovingly remembered for his strong work ethic and for his generosity, wisdom, determination and courage in the face of overwhelming adversity. Ted is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Janina (Janet) and by his three children Andrew (Cheryl) of Calgary, Jan (Margaret) of Peterborough, England, Anna Maciag of London, England and by his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Adam, Alex, Rachel, Gabriella and Lucy. Ted is also survived by his brother-in-law Michael Zalot of Peterborough, England. Ted was predeceased by his parents Pawel and Helena Maciag and by his sister Janina Zalot. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (4718 Worcester Drive S.W, Calgary) on Thursday, November 1, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. BANISTER, Matthew (Matt) James November 22, 1975 - October 22, 2007 Matthew Banister of Calgary passed away suddenly in Prescott, AZ on Monday, October 22, 2007 at the age of 31 years. Matt will always be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humour. A young and upcoming entrepreneur in the Oil and Gas Industry, he was President of Canadian Logging Systems as well as ESG Filtration. Matt left his mark with his unique, energetic, fun-loving nature and million dollar smile that melted many hearts. An avid sportsman, this tremendously athletic man was an aspiring pilot who had a particular love for fishing, working out, fast cars and motorcycles. Matt was outgoing, gregarious and loved to make new friends wherever he went. He will be sadly missed by the many friends and family members whose lives he touched. Matt will be lovingly remembered as the beloved son of Jim and Susan Banister of Calgary, and the devoted big brother to Jay and his wife Ann Banister of Carlsbad, CA. NELSON, Alice I. (Davey) - peacefully, with her daughters at her side, at Alexander Place, Waterdown, Ontario on Sunday October 21, 2007 in her 80th year. Alice was born on Windy Knolls Farm, Wilton in Ernestown Township, March 18th, 1928. She was the youngest of four of the late Bernard Davey and Gertrude Costley. She was often found relating a story to her family about her years on the farm, always with a smile. In Grade 13 she moved to Campbellford, living with her Grandmother, the late Elizabeth (Johnston) Costley and met the love of her life, her soul mate, Glenn Donald Nelson, who passed away in 1999. For the summer immediately after highschool she attended the Toronto Normal School and following taught at S.S. # 17, rural Wilton, for the school years of 1947-48 and 1948-49, when she married Glenn, July 9, 1949, settling in Campbellford. Soon after, they moved to Oshawa, where they raised their two girls, until Glenn's retirement, when they returned to Campbellford. Her love for her family was unwavering and the hugs were endless. She was continuously found giggling and always available with an ear, shoulder or piece of advice if one of her family needed her. The last thing you would always be sure to hear her say is “I love you more!“ She was an amazing Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family, but never forgotten. She was the devoted mother of Alice Marie & Jim Waldriff of Waterdown, Heather & Steven Gray of Lansdowne. Cherished Gramma/Ma of Brandie (Matt), Tony (Cheryl), Ashley (Mark), Joshua and beloved GG of Jordan, Aiden & Mason. Survived by her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Francis of Kingston. FLAGG, LEROY CHESTER - Leroy Chester Flagg, (85) of North Head Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital October 25, 2007. He was born of the late Ainsley and Elva (Parker) Flagg. Leroy worked all of his life in the fishing industry; he lobster fished in his early years from a dory, worked at weir fishing and was most known for his entrepreneurial skills that earned him the title "King of Dulse" as one of the first original wholesalers of dulse. He enjoyed 65 years in business most which he worked with his late wife, Angeline (Angie) and his son, Gerry. He is survived by his son, Gerald (Gerry) Flagg (Joanne) of North Head, one Sister; Leola Wormell, North Head, two brothers; Roland (Flora) and Glendon, both of Castalia. His three grandchildren, Justin, Jodi, and Jada, three great grandchildren; Tristin, Gage, Kasey; several nieces and nephews. Also besides his wife, Angeline he was predeceased by one grandchild, Jerri - Ann; six sisters, Kathleen, Lillian, Iva, Beatrice, Belva, Mary, two brothers; Frederick and Rexford. Elsie P. Ryder Elsie P. Ryder, 88 of Moncton, with her family at her side, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. Born in Lancer, SK, she was the daughter of the late James and Maude (Wilmot) Stannard. Elsie was a member of First Baptist Church, former choir member and was a member of the WMS. He was 88 years of age. Born 1919 in Grand Pre, NS he was the son of the late William A.B. and Lillian (Hardacker) Morine of Bear River, NS. He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor J. Morine of Bear River, NS and brothers-in-law, Lester Fleet and John Harris. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, celebrating on July 14, 2007, Marjorie Patricia (Fleet) Morine and his children; daughter, Patricia J. Morine, Quispamsis, and sons; Douglas S. (Florence Alward) Morine, Grand Bay-Westfield and Donald E. (Cathy Flight) Morine of Upper Loch Lomond, NB. He has seven precious grandchildren that were his pride and joy. Patricia's son Justin (Juanita Hardy) Blenkhorn, Saint John; Douglas and Florence's son Brent (Chrissy Laskey) Morine, Morrisdale, NB and Donald's children; Jonathan (Jennifer Petrovich) Morine, Saint John, Sara Donn (Neil Cross) Morine, Fort Mac Murray, AB, Krystal Morine, Halifax, NS, Allison Doran, Fort Mac Murray, AB and Julia Morine, Halifax, NS. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lila Harris of Berwick, NS and a niece and nephews Robert (Joan) Harris of Berwick, NS and Gary (Carol) Harris of Mount Uniache, NS and Ester (Gary) Van Wart and Emdon (Nancy) Fleet both of Saint John, NB. Scott served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. After returning from the war he graduated from Nova Scotia Technical College, Truro, NS. He then worked at McAvity's, T.S. Simms as machine shop supervisor for 30 plus years, then Joe's Machine Shop until retirement. He was a top 'marksman' and was a 'custom gunsmith' in his non-working time for the general public, Saint John Police Department and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His other hobbies were hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and his camps. He was able to get out hunting on Monday and Tuesday with Douglas the two days before his passing, and that meant very much to him. JEFFERY, Dale Maxwell 1929 - 2007 Dale Maxwell Jeffery, a long-time resident of the Red Deer Lake and Priddis areas, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2007 at Rising Sun Long Term Care in Black Diamond. He is survived by his daughter Susan, son-in-law Mark Egeland, and loving granddaughter Hunter; also by his cousin Roger (Margaret) Maltby and family. Dale was predeceased by his wife Hazel in 1992, and by his daughter Heather in 1976. Dale was born in Calgary on April 29, 1929. The only child of Roy "Jeff", and Nena Jeffery, he was raised on the family farm west of Midnapore, which he took over in the 1960s. He married Hazel White in 1962. In the early 1990s, as the city overtook their farm, Dale and Hazel headed west to a cattle ranch in the Priddis area. Dale enjoyed hockey and badminton, and was an avid fisherman. He also loved farming and ranching, and watching wildlife graze against the backdrop of the Rockies. His kindness and generosity made him loved by all. Dale was a wonderful man who will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Rising Sun LTC who made Dale feel right at home over the past five years. Also to his many friends that gave continued love and support during his last years. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Red Deer Lake Community Hall.
