GRAVES, Lorne Howard (B.A. Queen's) - Peacefully on September 10, 2007, at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, Ontario, Lorne Howard Graves (B.A. Queen's) of Burlington, Ontario, in his 82nd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Louise (Wood) Graves. He was the loving father of Jan Graves-Passmore, her husband Mark Passmore and dear grandfather of Emily Passmore. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Edith Wilson of Brantford, Bernice Wood Flett of London, Frances (James) Sommerman of Traverse City, Michigan, Joyce Polgrain of London, and his nieces and nephews. He will be recalled fondly by his curling, ballroom dancing, and lawn bowling friends as well as his teaching and air force colleagues. Born in Scotland, Ontario, he was the son of Ensley and Ethel Graves. He served with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry for the last part of World War II, and then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was assigned to 434 Bluenose Squadron of Sabre Jets and for more than 13 years flew from bases across Canada as well as in Zweibrucken, Germany and Metz, France. During this period, he held the Canadian Record for Air to Ground Target Practice. Upon retiring from the air force, he became a respected Secondary School teacher and taught for 21 years at Napanee District Secondary School, where many students came to know him in class, at the Tuck Shop, the Curling Club, and the Rod and Gun Club. He was a dedicated volunteer over the years, at his church, and for various organizations such as Banting House, and the Parkwood Hospital Pet Therapy Program. Cremation has taken place. Friends may call during the hour preceding the Memorial Service to celebrate his life which will be held at the JAMES A. HARRIS FUNERAL HOME, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London on Thursday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Robarts Research Institute, or Parkwood Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged. Bess, beloved wife of the late Allan MacNab, was a kindhearted and loving woman with a deep appreciation for cottage life and nature. Dear mother of Gordon and Donald (wife Jane). OBITUARY ANNE FISH (nee JOHNSON) Peacefully, at home with her family in her seventy-second year after a long, very courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Colin Irving, mother of Cynthia and Douglas Fish, grandmother of Paule and Joseph Harvey and sister of Robert Johnson. Much loved also by her stepchildren Caroline, Andrew and Gillian Irving and their children. She will be sadly missed as well by her many friends. Throughout her first career as a social worker and her second as a very talented artist her primary professional interest was in child welfare. With that interest particularly in mind, she served a term as Chairman and was for many years a member of the Board of Directors of Tyndale-St. Georges community centre, an organization founded by the Johnson family in the 1920's working with disadvantaged families in Little Burgundy. WRIGHT, Ron 1941 - 2007 Ronald Clay Wright, the love of my life (Karen Wright), passed away September 6, 2007 in Nanaimo, B.C. The medical reason was pancreatic cancer; the Universe's reason is not ours to know. Ron was a private person and only a few were fortunate to know him well. His public persona was tough, demanding, but fair. His private persona was loving and tender, fun and silly. He lived life his way, never concerned with what others thought. He had a sharp wit and sense of humour which kept me laughing throughout our twenty-one-year marriage. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He was quietly generous and kind. Ron was a natural born leader. This was evident as a child on the playground, during the four years he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, and throughout his career as he rose to the rank of senior executive, developing a loyal following wherever he went: Hallmark Cards, American Airlines, Occidental Petroleum, Canadian Occidental, and myriad clients as management consultant. Ron's passions were cars, golf, bridge, reading, music and World War II. Anything he ventured into he took on with fervor. He was relentless about "making a difference". Ron's biggest passion, though, was his family. Ron was deeply in love with me and his two "fur-kids", Callie and Chigger, and took care of us with all his heart, literally to his last breath. Through his amazing strength, will, and love, he held this ravaging disease at bay until we had made our long-desired move to Vancouver Island, got settled, and renovated our new home. GREEN, Georgia - While at her home with loving family by her side, Georgia Ann Green passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 10th, 2007 in her 80th year. Born on November 7, 1927 in Victoria Carbonear, Newfoundland, better known as Mom, she was loved and adored by her three daughters Dianne Scobel (Frank) of St. Catharines, Kay Dawson (Brian) of Kitchener, and Sherri Heeg (Sybren) of Port Colborne. Amazingly nurturing Nanny to her seven grandchildren Cindy Pestrak (Joe), Renee and Matt Scobel, Brianne and Corporal John Dawson, Nathan and Alana Heeg. Treasured great- grandmother to Austin and Ashley Pestrak. Predeceased by her cherished and loving husband, John Green (1989), parents Pastor George and Mary (Mame) Parsons and brother Jack. She will be sadly missed by her sisters Robina Patterson, Rhoda Gill (Lester), Gwen Dysart (Bob) and brother Gilbert Parsons (Kay) as well as many nieces and nephews. Nanny was loved by all her family as she loved them with all her heart. She was taken from us too early; she was our inspiration and our guiding light. McDONALD, Patricia Kay (nee Hawaleshka) 1928 - 2007 Patricia Kay McDonald passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the age of 79 years after a decade-long courageous battle with cancer. She was a truly wonderful and sweet lady with a heart of gold, always thinking of others first, especially when it came to her late husband and children. Patricia was born on March 17, 1928 in Vegreville, Alberta and grew up on a farm in Ispas near Edmonton. She attended school there and later worked as a cook for Canadian National Railways in Jasper where she met her husband to be. She made many lifelong friends through her work there and at the Fort Gary Hotel in Winnipeg. On August 27, 1955, she married Alfred Alexander McDonald and they were blessed with four children, Robert, Allan, Karen and Brian from 1960 to 1964. Her family lived in Transcona, moving from the east to the west side of Winnipeg to Charleswood in 1975. A kind and loving hockey mom, she always supported all of her children in their pursuits. In 1986, she moved to Edmonton and Vancouver briefly and then to Calgary in 1987 living in Marlborough for a few years and then in an apartment adjacent to Prince's Island Park. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred on December 6, 1979, by her father, Alexander Hawaleshka in 1980, by her mother, Annie Hawaleshka (nee Luchak) in 1983, by her sister Jean in 1997 and by her brother Metro in 2002. She leaves behind a brother, Merle and sisters Helen and Violet. In addition to her children, she is also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren Alison, Cameron, Derek, Paul, Alexander, Bradley, Patrick and Eric. Patricia had a loving smile, warmth and generosity about her that was extended to everyone that met her. She truly enjoyed cooking and everyone will miss her garlic dill pickles, bread and authentic Ukrainian dishes including perogies and cabbage rolls. Her life is a shining example of great tolerance, acceptance, sacrifice for family and devotion in the name of love. She truly made this world a better place with her presence and her time on earth leaves no doubt that she will enter the kingdom of heaven. Her family will miss her dearly and will always be blessed by her example of unconditional love. Thanks to Dr. Ghatage, her primary oncologist and all of the dedicated doctors, nurses and caregivers over the years who assisted her with her fight with cancer. A special thank you to all of the wonderful people at The Agape Hospice in Calgary who made her as comfortable as possible. She was truly thankful for the caring love and attention that she received in her final days. An informal gathering for family and friends to celebrate her life will take place at Bow Claire Apartment at 717 First Avenue S.W. in Calgary on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at St. Andrews Church on St. Andrews on the Red, No. 3 St. Andrews Road in the rural Municipality of St. Andrews just north of Winnipeg at 1:00 p.m. where her ashes will be buried with her late husband Alfred. ADAM, Benjamin Heinz Died suddenly on September 5, 2007 after collapsing on the soccer field at Keyano College in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Ben was born on June 21, 1977 in Burnaby, BC. He moved with his family to Langley, BC in 1987 where he attended The King's School. After graduating in 1995, Ben was a part of various community sports teams including football, baseball, and soccer. He went on to earn a degree in Human Kinetics from Trinity Western University where he played on the Spartans men's soccer team from 1997 to 2002. He also was a part of the TWU coaching staff from 2003 to 2005. A coach at heart, Ben was a part of the coaching staff on many soccer teams at the community, provincial, and national level. In 2006 he accepted a coaching position at Total Soccer Systems in Richmond, BC. Ben's goal of becoming a college level soccer coach came true on August 7, 2007, when he accepted the position of Athletic Coordinator and Women's Soccer Coach at Keyano College in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Ben will be lovingly remembered by his parents Christian and Gudrun, siblings Tanya (Peter), Joy (Ryan), Ruth (Josh), Jeremiah, and Hannah; niece Tama; aunts; uncles; cousins; friends and the soccer communities he was a part of. Survived by her daughter Sheila Protti (Ray) and son Lionel; grandsons Michel (Casey) and Nicholas Protti, and greatgranddaughter Claire Protti. Joe's early life was spent in Kelowna, Bournemouth, and Chilliwack. She arrived in Duncan in 1935 to assist the resident public health nurses at the health centre on Ingram Street. In 1937, she married Jack Dobson and, for the next 54 years supported him in his business, various interests, and in his 24 years of public life as an alderman and then mayor of Duncan. Always involved in the community, Joe was an active member of the WA and ACW at St. John's Church, IODE (of which she was a life member), Rotary Anns, Queen Margaret's School parents' association, Maple Bay Yacht Club, and Peers Counselling. She was happiest when occupied with volunteer projects, socializing with friends (especially parties with dancing), or pursuing her interests of badminton, hiking, gardening, reading, cooking, sewing, sailing on the Idler II with Jack, and the companionship of her various dogs and cats. Her travels included driving across Canada with her parents in 1924 in a Model T, trips with Jack to New Zealand and Australia, the UK and Europe, and to Ontario to visit her grandsons. Warm thanks to Sanita Cabrera for her years of care, and to the Chemainus Health Care Centre staff and volunteers for their compassionate and caring attention over the past 2 years. PARKER, DONALD "HUME" - Unexpectedly at his residence in Lords Cove NB on September 9, 2007, Mr. Donald Hume Parker, husband of the late Sarah Bernice (Conley) Parker. Born at Deer Island on August 18th 1931, he was a son of the late Austin and Hilda Mae (Richardson) Parker. A loving father and grandfather he is survived by two sons, Jerome (Laura Lee) and Michael (Carrie) both of Lords Cove; three grandchildren, Holly (Allison) Belliveau of Leonardville NB, Zachary Parker (Carol Butler) of Lords Cove and Candace Parker of Fort St. John BC; two great grandchildren, Jarrett and Bradley Belliveau; his companion, Bonnie Bishop of Lords Cove; one sister in law, Elna Parker of Lords Cove; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Hume was predeceased by one brother, Owen Parker. Prior to his retirement, Hume had worked for the Department of Transportation as a Ferry Captain for 20 years and enjoyed both building and tending his Weir's, before and after his retirement from the DOT. He was a member of the Lords Cove Church of Christ and a former member of the Deer Island Orange Lodge. Hume was also was a member of the Fundy Weir Fisherman's Association and in his early years a member of the Deer Island Band. Resting at the Lords Cove Church of Christ from where the service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Murray Spencer and Rev. Glenn Cox officiating, followed by interment at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery at Calder's Head NB. Visiting will take place at the church on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. Elle laisse ses enfants: Marie-Andrée, Thérèse, Marcelle (Gilles Bray), Isabelle (Claude Vachon), Jean-Luc (Roselyn Lalonde), Simon (Estelle Guibord), François (Louise Jubainville), Chantal (Marcel Lavigne), Pierre-Yves (Maryse Lalonde), Renée (James Newsom) et Mireille (Edward Keast); ses 24 petits- enfants et 4 arrière petits-enfants. Elle laisse également ses frères et ses soeurs: Mgr. Jean Gratton, Sr. Marcelle fdls, Maurice (feu Gisèle Charbonneau), Jeannine (Dr. Arthur Barette), Monique (Yvon Chenier), Marie-Louise (feu André Leclair), Jacques, Philippe (Paulette Mainville) et Cécile (Conrad Lapensée), ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, parents et amis en plus de son ami très cher Claude Brazeau. Elle fut prédécédée par son frère René (Gertrude Vinette) et sa soeur Yvonne (Jean Demers). GOULD, Ida Goldie (1915-2007)- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ida Goldie Gould, in Toronto on Sunday September 9, 2007. She was the beloved wife of the late Joe Gould, mother to Shirley (Alex Mesbur) and Ruth (Stephen Smith) and grandmother to Lisa Mesbur (Darcy Brebner). She leaves her dear sisters Sadie Ratner and Zelma Wasserman and brother Jack Finkelstein. She was predeceased by her brother Mitchell Finkelstein. Auntie Ida will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and their families. In 1948, she and her husband opened Dorothy Gould Reg'd, a high end ladies fashion store and in 1960, she opened her own business, Charmante Ladies Wear, a casual clothing and sportswear store that she operated for 20 years. Both stores were prominent fixtures in downtown Regina. She was an active member of the Regina Jewish Community and a past president of the Regina chapter of Hadassah WIZO. A funeral service will be held at the Regina Jewish Cemetery at 1PM Wednesday September 12th. Donations in Ida's memory can be made to the charity of your choice. STEEN, WARREN WILLARD - The passing of Warren Willard Steen, husband of Dorothy (Hanson) Steen, of Fredericton, occurred on September 10, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton. Born on January 2, 1921, in Cardigan, NB, he was a son of the late Frank and Jennie (Saunders) Steen. He retired in 1981 as Director of Purchasing with the Department of Supply and Services - Province of New Brunswick. Warren was a Veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 - 1946 in England, Germany and Holland as Lieutenant in the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment and was a member of the Fredericton Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4. He was a member of Wilmot United Church where he was an Elder and was active in the Sunday School program as well as the Men's Group. Warren enjoyed golfing, playing cards and spending his winters in Florida. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing, softball and bowling. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Betty (Paul) Craig of Islandview; one son, Jim (Wanda) of Fredericton; three grandchildren, Jeff and Brent Craig and Katherine Steen; four great grandchildren, Ashlee, Marci, Sarah and Jacob Craig; one brother, Donald E. (Jacqueline) Steen of Rothesay and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Ina Ludford; and an infant sister, Wanda. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 are asked to assemble for a Legion Tribute Service on Wednesday at 6:45 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 2 pm with Very Rev. Dr. Peter Short officiating. Honourary Pallbearers will be Alfred Hamill, Pat Boyle, Fred Brown, Wayne Wade, Don Rideout, Earl Davidson, Charles Seymour and Gordon Seymour. Interment will take place in the Forest Hill Cemetery Field of Honor at a later date.
