FONTAINE, Larry Sr. - The family of Larry Fontaine are sad to announce his passing. He passed away after a battle with cancer on September 5, 2007 in his 75th year. Larry and the late Lydia were married in 1955 and together raised their three children, Sue (Bill), Larry (Barb) and the late Ronald, all of Port Colborne. Larry was the proud business owner of Fontaine's Moving and Storage that he started with Lydia in 1953. He loved to work and you just never knew what he was going to try next. Larry will be missed by his grandchildren whom he loved to name his vehicles after, “The Three Puppets“, Michelle (Al), Shannon (Jay), Amy (Phil), “Miss Katelyn and Miss Alysha“, Tyler, and his four wheeling buddy Jacob. Larry was also blessed to have great grandchildren; Ethan, Isaac, Casey, Jake, Chris and Ryan. Larry was born in Quebec and at a young age moved to Niagara with his mother (the late Mary Louise) and siblings. Larry had a full and rewarding life with many interesting stories that we will all enjoy and laugh about for years to come. He is survived by his sisters Gilberte Gervais and Lise St. Aubin, his brother Marcel Fontaine and his in-laws Georgette Fontaine and Don Molnar. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Albani, Tony, Jeanne Lejeune and Monique Molnar. MacQUEEN, Paul - at the Douglas Memorial Hospital on Wednesday September 5, 2007. Paul MacQueen beloved son of Delina (Lee) and dear brother of The Reverend Karen MacQueen and Darlene (Eric) Kowal. Cherished uncle of Melanie, Jamie Lyn, and Joshua. His father Colin MacQueen predeceased him in 1999. Paul started working as a trackman on the railroad and later became a Conrail track workers union leader for the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Union. After his union career he worked as an investigator for the Cantor, Lukasik, Dolce and Panepinto law firm. ALLEN, Janet Born November 2, 1922 Glasgow, Scotland. Departed this Mortal Coil September 3, 2007 Victoria, British Columbia. Predeceased by her husband Gordon, grandchildren Jennifer McCullough, and Graham Poole. Survived by her son Roy Allen, daughters Lynda McCullough (Mark) and Jeannie Poole (Rick) and grandchildren Andrew and Emily Poole. She was an active member of the Strathearn United Church Ladies Auxiliary in Edmonton; her baking was always in demand at the church bazaars. After moving to Victoria from Edmonton at her husband's retirement in 1977, she continued to volunteer her help at the Gorge Road Hospital. Also she was a member of the Esquimalt Arts and Craft Society and served as Treasurer and provided the wonderful floral arrangements for the Annual Craft Shows. Janet also was a volunteer member of the Royal British Columbia Museum Gift Shop. All she met found her to be a very warm and special person. Very special thanks from her family to Janet's friends and caregivers that gave her much comfort and help. TATARNIC, Elizabeth (nee Wisnoski) - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Tatarnic, at St. Catharines General Hospital after a brief illness, on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Edward Walter Tatarnic (1954). Loving mother of Geraldine Waud of St. Catharines. Cherished sister of David Wisnoski of Grimsby and sisters Ann Andreychuk (the late Nicholas) and Jane Koluk (the late Anton “Tony“), both of Grimsby, and Teresa Dowhun (William) of Stoney Creek. Also survived by brother and sisters-in-law Michael (the late Mavis) Tatarnic, Stephanie (the late Donald) Andersen, and Olga Tatarnic of Niagara Falls. Predeceased by two of her cherished children, John Christopher (2002), and Johanna Elizabeth Sandham (2002), brother William Wisnoski (the late Mary), sister Olga Sawchuk (the late Steve), brother-in-law Harry Tatarnic (the late Olga), and sister-in-law Mary (the late Joseph) Serada. Elizabeth was born in Elk Ranch, Manitoba and moved to Grimsby with her parents Fred and Mary Wisnoski in 1930. Elizabeth loved the company of many nieces, nephews, family and friends in her life. She was young at heart and always vibrant and active. Some of her accomplishments included being a masterful cook and talented seamstress. She enjoyed her career at the Grimsby Public Library from which she retired in 1985. Ever active in her church, she was a devout and faithful parishioner whose deepest wish was for the church to thrive. LEEW, Eva Victoria April 26, 1920 - September 5, 2007 Eva Leew, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on September 5, 2007 after a difficult but courageous struggle with lymphoma, at the age of 87 years. Eva was born on her maternal grandparents' homestead near Ponoka, AB on April 26, 1920 to Emily and Frank Morris. When she was two years old her family moved to New York and later to Chicago where she started school and stayed until she was eleven. The family returned to farm at Rimbey, AB and Eva finished high school at Ponoka. Eva moved to Calgary when she was eighteen to work her way through Garbutt's Business College. She started her working career at Northwestern Brass in Ogden. Eva married Alex Leew on September 9, 1944 and with her loving man she built a family home and raised her family in Tuxedo Park. Eva worked for ten years for Dr. Rothwell in downtown Calgary. She was a leader in Home and School, the Canadian Girls In Training at Northminster United Church and the community association. She loved to travel, to walk in nature and to curl and swim at the Calgary Winter Club. Over the years she hosted many wonderful parties for her family and friends. She attended passionately to flowers and birds in her backyard and at "the cabin". She was devoted to her family including her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Eva was a feisty woman with a forgiving, loving, gentle and child-like spirit. She left us with her heart full of love. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Alex; her three children, Barbara (Larry), Shirley and Ted (Jeanie); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. SHANKLAND, William “Bill“ - On Monday September 3rd, 2007. William was the beloved husband of Mabel (nee Jeffrey) for 61 years. Loving father of Linda McCarthy (Pat), Susan Brown (Bob), and Gordon, all of North Bay, and Len (Debbie) of Petawawa, and Heather Haywood (Ross) of Queensland, Australia. Sadly missed by his 11 grandchildren: Alison Milne (Coby), Ryan & Robyn McCarthy, Jason, Jeffrey & Sarah Shankland, Shannon Brown-Saucier (Gerald) & Gordon Shankland Jr., and Craig, Erin & James Haywood; great-grandfather of Mattisen Ryleigh Saucier. Survived by his sister Anne Seymour of New Liskeard and sister-in-law Eunice Phillips of North Bay. Bill will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Agnes, sisters Susan Manson and Mary Lomack, and brothers David and Gordon. Bill was born in Aberfoyle, Scotland and came to Canada with his parents at an early age. He went overseas in 1940 and served for five and a half years with the Royal Canadian Engineers during WWll. Back in Canada, he eventually operated his own business, “Shankland Plumbing and Heating” and for a period of 23 years he enjoyed working for all of his customers here in North Bay. Dad treasured many happy memories, especially those on Trout Lake. He and Mom bought the property in the early 1950's when they actually had to sled in from Regal Road during the winter months. The two have spent all of those years enjoying their family of five kids and their families. Fishing, swimming, barbequing, water-skiing, boating, cross-country skiing, and curling were their favourite activities and they were always “on the go.“ In recent years, life had been quieter but Bill's zest for work never seemed to wane. The man with the “Andy Capp“ hat was out shoveling the gravel on his driveway just two weeks ago and he was playing miniature golf the day before he died. He loved his family, he loved life and he enjoyed his retreat on Trout Lake. Cherished father of Mark and his friend Gabrielle Stein, of Barrie; Colleen and her husband Gerald Perkin, of Dorchester; Collin, and Elan, both of London. BREHMER, Connie February 27, 1918 - September 4, 2007 It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the age of 89 years. Connie married Bud Brehmer (who predeceased her in 1988) and came to Canada in 1945 as an English War Bride. She had a varied career, including eighteen years with the Calgary Board of Education. She loved playing cards and enjoyed her many trips to Florida, Las Vegas and the lakes. Her life's greatest moments were anytime she could be surrounded by her family. Connie is survived by her children, Jean and husband Vern Becker of Kimberley, BC, Alan and wife Diane Southworth of Boynton Beach, FL, Judi and husband Tom Davis of Calgary; grandchildren, Jeff (Debbie), Tim (Susan), Todd (Brenda), Jay (Penny), Craig (Therese), Kari, Lisa (Robert), Michael, and Sean; great-grandchildren, Kelly, Brooke, Alycia, Tanya, Kayla, Michelle, Brad, Josh, Jericho, Clare, Roy, Kate, Meghan, John Michael, Matthew, and Joseph; also special great-grandchildren, Tyler, Alexis and Michael; and great-great-grandson Braxton. CLAUSEN, Marlene Bernice May 10, 1938 - September 5, 2007 Marlene Bernice Clausen passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the age of 69 years. Marlene was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. After high school she left on her own and moved to Calgary. Along the way she also spent time in Vancouver before moving back to Regina to have her son Keith. In 1985 Marlene and Keith moved to Calgary where she spent the rest of her life. Marlene spent most of her career working for Air Canada, primarily in the reservations department until she retired. Marlene was a quiet, family oriented person and will be remembered always. Marlene will be deeply missed by her son Keith; her brothers, Larry (Iris) and Dean; and her sister, Linda; and her sister-in-law Victoria. She will also be remembered by her niece Kari; her nephews Perry, Darin, Trent, Scott, and Sean and a long-time friend, Fran. Marlene was predeceased by her parents Paul and Stella Clausen and her brother Kenneth. KILGOUR, Rose Marie - July 8, 1937 - September 5, 2007. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose Marie Kilgour (Anderson) on September 5, 2007. Rose Marie, a resident of Ilderton and formerly North Bay for many years, passed away peacefully in her 71st year at University Hospital in London with her family at her side following a brief battle with cancer. She died with the comforting knowledge that her family and many dear friends were supporting her in their prayers and thoughts. Rose Marie was a devoted and loving wife and best friend of 50 years for Jim (Ilderton) and a loyal and supportive mother for her two sons Jim (Cecilia) of Kitchener and David (Anne) of Sudbury. Pre-deceased by her parents Dan and Grace Anderson. Dearly loved sister to Joyce (Bill, deceased) Currie of London and John (Marilyn) Anderson of Peterborough. Sister-in-law to Gary (Josephine) Marshall of Calgary and Barbara (Ron) Johnson of London. A loving Nana for Kaitlyn and David Kilgour (Kitchener) and step- grandmother to Stacey Kilgour and Anthony Biafore (Calgary) and Adam and Ryan Venedam (Sudbury). Rose Marie will be missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including her life-long knitting partner, Aunt Thelma. Adored aunt of Kim, Bill, John, Johanna, Cathy, Greg, Dan, Susan, Debbie, and Rick. She had a special bond with her “granddog“ Hunter, who certainly loved Rose Marie as his Nana. Rose Marie's life was rich with love and revolved around her family and dear friends, who are now fortunate to be left with fond memories of an unforgettable person whose loyalty and compassion were without boundaries. Her sense of humour will continue to bring smiles to our faces for years to come. If there were Olympics for knitting, Rose Marie would be a multi-medal winner for Canada as her legacy will include hundreds of knitted items that she crafted with love over the years for her family and friends. She also knit countless baby outfits for donation to premature babies at area hospitals. Without a doubt, her favourite time of the year was Christmas, when she would decorate her home and share the best of the season with family and friends. Heartfelt thanks to the compassionate and outstanding medical teams of nurses, doctors and staff at University Hospital's ICU, Transplant Unit and Palliative Care Unit. A special thank you to her family physician Dr. Jo-Anne Hammond for her outstanding care over the years. Memorial visitation will be held at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Saturday from 2:00- 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. WILSON, Richard (Rick) Allan September 13, 1946 - September 4, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce that Richard (Rick) Allan Wilson of Calgary passed away peacefully in the company of his family on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the age of 60 years. Rick was born on September 13, 1946 in Regina, SK. He was the gold medalist in his graduating year from UNB Law School, obtained his Masters Degree in Law at Harvard University in 1971, and practised law in Calgary for thirty-five years. Rick's passions in life were family and friends, travel, golf, and anything and everything Irish. He also maintained a deep religious faith and a profound devotion to the Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, quick wit, generous spirit, and love for his family and friends. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Kristin Carlsson; son-in-law Tony Carlsson; grandsons, Simon and Jonah Carlsson, and his brother Bob Wilson. FERGUSON, John H. - 61, of Buzzards Bay, MA, died September 4, 2007 after injuries he sustained in an accident. He leaves his beloved wife of 37 years, Anne Blanchfield Ferguson. He was the son of the late John H. and Muriel R. (Eagles) Ferguson. He was a Canadian born and bred. He grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario but made his home as a wash ashore on Cape Cod for almost 30 years. John graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering. John was a Professional Engineer for R.S. Means, a division of Reed Construction Data in Kingston where he worked for 12 years. He was very active in the Professional Engineering Society of Massachusetts at both the state & local level. He was past president of the Massachusetts Society for Professional Engineers. John was the consummate traveler and story teller. He stood almost 6' 5“ but was known for being kind, gentle and polite - a Canadian through and through. His passions were many and varied. He was an ardent outdoors man who hiked, bird watched and climbed mountains. He traveled and climbed in both the American & Canadian Rockies. His love of the outdoors was boundless. John was a passionate reader who had already read & moved on by the time everyone was talking about the latest book. For his family & friends he baked the best bagels and bread. John was a founding member of the Bourne Youth Soccer League and coached both soccer and basketball. For all his passions though, in the end it always came back to his family. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his three devoted children, Jacob Blanchfield Ferguson, Jenabeth M. Ferguson both of Buzzards Bay, and Margaret Ferguson Tompkins and her husband Guy of Douglas, Alaska; a granddaughter, Ava Cecelia Tompkins; his brother Peter Ferguson of Fonthill, Ontario. He was an adored brother-in-law, gentle uncle to many nieces and nephews and advocate of Michael Anderson.
