BROWN, MARJORIE HELEN (1918-2007) - Peacefully, surrounded by her family, Marjorie Helen Brown (nee Ronald) of Bath, NB, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late James Brown, dearly loved mother of David (Corenna), Perth-Andover, Donald (Diane), Kingston, ON, Carol (Larry Millie), Woodstock, Stuart (Karen), Portage La Prairie, MN and Ian (Kathryn), Carleton Place, ON. Cherished by her grandchildren, Todd and Andrew, Wayne and Lee Ann, Jason and Michael, Leah, Erica, Leslee and Drew; as well as her eight great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Muriel McAfee, Joan Smith, the late Kay Holt, all of Saint John, and Ruth McIntosh, Glassville. Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Hilda, and brothers, David and Charles. Marjorie will also be fondly remembered by her aunts, Marge Martinson and Marion Spence and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her love and concern of family was immeasurable. Marjorie was known in both her church and community for her devotion and generosity. She had a long and fulfilling teaching career in Carleton County leading to her retirement in 1977. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Bruce Lockhart, Bath, as well as, to the staff at Saint John Regional Hospital 3CN for their wonderful care and compassion. RAYMOND, Laurette - Laurette Raymond s'est éteinte doucement le 6 septembre au Centre St-Joseph de Sudbury à la suite d'un accident cérébro-vasculaire survenu à son chalet, le 14 aot dernier. Elle était âgée de 93 ans. Elle va manquer à tous ceux qui l'aimaient ; à ses filles d'abord, Claudette et Nicole, à ses petits-enfants Vincent, Marie- Eve et Olivier (Morisset) et à Raphaëlle, Myriam et Jean-Noël (Raymond-Jetté) ainsi qu'à leurs pères Paul Morisset et Yves Jetté Elle sera regrettée par ses soeurs Rolande (Dennie) et Avela (Lamer), sa belle-soeur Thérèse (Belcourt) ainsi que par sa belle- famille Raymond : Rachel et Lucien, Rita et Florian, Sylva, Guy et Jeannette, Gérard et Desanges, Marguerite. HANK (HENRY) KURT SANDLOS P.ENG. - Feb. 13, 1930 - Sept. 1, 2007 Hank passed quietly at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital as the evening sun glowed warmly through the window of his room. He was the beloved husband of Betty-Lou, deeply committed father of Lisa (Dave), Karyn (Jude) and John (Yolanda), proud granddad of Maya, William and Zachary. After graduating from Galt Collegiate, Hank pursued a degree in electrical engineering from Queen's University. He played center on the Golden Gaels football team where he earned the nickname, Man Mountain. Beginning his career at Canadian General Electric, he then moved to S&C Electric, where he worked until his retirement, always believing in the integrity of the company to which he dedicated so many years. He met Betty-Lou in 1964, and would wait attentively for her to return from Hawaii so they could be married a year later. Hank's letters to BL during their courtship speak volumes about his deep love for her and their much anticipated life together. In the early years living in Vancouver, he skied the mountains of Mt. Baker Rim, built a cabin in the woods and spent many happy times there with his young family. After returning to Ontario, his love of skiing found a home at Alpine Ski Club in Collingwood where he served on the board of directors, and later retired with BL to schush down the slopes not far from his backyard. A voracious reader and stubborn debater of history and politics, Hank kept his mind active right up until the last days. This quiet and unassuming man passed his great passion for reading and inquiry on to his children and grandchildren. Family and friends mourn the loss of a principled, kind and courageous person. We are all grateful for the compassionate care Hank received from the nursing staff in the I.C.U. Thank you Hank, for everything. The man has gone back to the mountain. SMITH, M. Elizabeth (Betty) B.A. (McGill), M.Ed. (U of T), HRPBA [Radcliffe (Harvard)] 1923 - 2007 - Betty (nee Weatherill) passed to the next phase of her life peacefully in Banff, AB on August 31, 2007. Predeceased by her former husband Bonnar Smith, in1986, Betty has left her spirit, her love of life, and enthusiasm for lifelong learning with her two sons, Fraser and Graham and her sister Kay and brother-in-law Gordon Coyle, special cousins Margaret (Ted) MacKay as well as close friends and associates. Her life's work as a pioneer in the corporate world included building and managing the Trust Institute for the Canadian Trust Industry, working with business associates to offer their members Certificates and Diplomas in Continuing Education Programs at York University and setting up the Personnel Department at the Ontario Research Foundation. In 1954 she established Personnelle Placement Service to connect Toronto employers with competent female employees. Professionally related volunteer activities included being elected as the first woman Director of the Toronto based Harvard Business School Club and the Toronto Personnel Association as well as Chairing the Board of the Ontario College of Art from 1983-1986. Betty was born in Manitoba in May 1923 and lived in Winnipeg until she moved to Montreal to attend McGill University. The rest of her adult life was spent in Toronto until she chose to retire in Collingwood in 1989, and then in 2005 to Banff, AB. to be closer to her family. Active volunteer work included Chairing the Strategic Planning Process for the Georgian Triangle ( 1989 - 1991) and Chairing the Georgian College Collingwood Community Advisory Committee (1994- 1998). From 1991- 1994 she was elected to Collingwood Town Council. Celebration of Betty's life will be held Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 11:00am in TRINITY UNITED CHURCH, Collingwood. Ray spent seven years in Taiwan and Singapore, returning to Kanata in 2002. A talented artist, Ray has exhibited his works in Canada, Taiwan, Singapore and Florida. He was a devoted family man, spending much of his free time at his beloved cottage and wintering in Florida with family and friends. Ray had a love of life! Born on August 1, 1949, she was the daughter of Earle A. Patterson and the late Selena M. (Swan) Patterson. SCHUSTER, Rudolf “Rudy“ - In loving memory of Rudolf “Rudy“ Schuster, 76 years, who passed away Wednesday, September 5th, 2007 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Memorial Site. Beloved husband of Radmila (Conic) Schuster of Sudbury. Loving father of Susan Pharand (husband Chad) of Guelph, David Schuster (wife Donna) of China, Nancy Schuster (partner Lucas) of Vancouver and Mark of Toronto. Cherished grandfather of Trevor, Lucas, Collin and Connor. Dear brother of Elizabeth Dordevic of Sudbury. Predeceased by his parents Jovan and Karolina Schuster, brother Johan and sister Helen Hlisch. Will be missed by his nieces and nephews Bobby and John Dordevic, Nellie Hlisch and Ros Scott. Rudy was born in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia on July 8th, 1931 and moved to Canada in 1951. Rudy worked in the Smelter at INCO for 39 years retiring in 1991. He belonged to the Quarter Century Club and was a faithful volunteer for Extendicare Falconbridge. He loved to garden and was a true sports fan. He enjoyed socializing with his friends at the mall. Rudy was very trivia minded and loved to play a good joke. He was extremely proud that his 4 children were university educated and happiest when surrounded by his family especially his grandchildren. HRYTSAK, Lucienne Marie (nee Lecompte) - In loving memory of Lucienne M. Hrytsak (nee Lecompte), 84 years, who passed away Thursday, September 6th, 2007 at St. Joseph's Health Centre. Lucienne was born in Lavigne and married Melvin Hrytsak in 1944 in Sudbury. A proud Canadian, during the war years Lucienne worked at INCO in the Smelter. Lucienne grew up in Verner moving to Sudbury in 1942. A devout Roman Catholic, she attended St. John the Evangelist Chruch and belonged to the parish C.W.L. She had belonged and actively participated in the P.T.A. at her children's schools for many years. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and gardening. The focus of Lucienne's life was her loving family. Beloved wife of Melvin of Garson. Loving mother of Gary of Spring Bay, Irvine (wife Lillian) of Sudbury, Judy Chaperon (husband Craig) of Garson, Michael (wife Melanie) of Philadelphia and Debbie Anthofer (husband Jeff) of Markham. Cherished grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and 1 grandson predeceased. Dear mother- in-law of Diane Hrytsak of Calgary. HACKSTETTER, ANNIE MICHELE (nee Philip) Born September 29, 1925, Madnapalli, Madras (Chennai) India. Albyn School Aberdeen, University of Edinburgh, M.A., Force Naval Francais Libre Official 1. Teacher, Le Caron School. Died, Huronia District Hospital Midland Ontario, September 2, 2007, after a short battle with cancer accompanied by a stroke, age 81. Michele was pre-deceased by her husband, Dr. Karl Hackstetter in 2005 and her sister Mado Vigne (Jean) of Chateau-Thierry, France. Michele is survived by her sister Mary Philip of Midland Ontario and her brother Hugh Philip (Evelyn) of Aldergrove B.C. Also survived by her loving children Ricarda Beutler (Arthur), Denman Island B.C., Rene Hackstetter (Anne) of Midland, Karl - Philip Hackstetter, North Bay and Ian Hackstetter of Balm Beach Ontario. Also survived by her loving grandchildren, Kirsten, Eric, Madeleine and William. Also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Cecile Ouhmani, Marie Francoise, Wendy, Brenda and Neil. Michele will be missed by countless friends from North America, Europe, South Africa and Australia. VAN WYLICK Joseph van Wylick passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on Thursday September 6th 2007 in his 84th year. Loving husband of Johanna (nee Groetelaars) van Wylick. Devoted father of Jeanette (David) Dempster, Marian (Dennis) Landry, Frank (Dale) van Wylick, Leo (Sue) van Wylick, Josepha (Ken) Schonberger, Cecilia (Bill) Rizzo and Marcus (Michelle) van Wylick. Predeceased by his son Michael. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Gregory, Kyle, Blake, Denise, Amy, Joseph, Jessica, Gregory, Andrew (Pamela), Michael, Daniella, Nicholas, Sydney and Alexandra and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters in Holland. Joseph retired from Atlas Steels and was an avid chess player, gardener and golfer and will always be remembered as a generous man who supported many charities throughout his life.
