CECILE, George W. Peacefully on August 27, 2007 George W. Cecile passed away at the age of 70 years. George was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Viola; his brothers, Robert, Adrian and Lorne; his cousins, Stella, Wilfred and Rolly. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Robert, Kevin (Debbie), Debbie (Rick); and his grandson Ryan. George is survived by his stepmother Rose; his brother Clayton (Agnes); his sister Connie (Bob); his sisters-in-law, Madeline and Marianne. Left to cherish his memory are his special cousins, Betty (Stan), Marj, Don (Shannon), Mickey & Yvonne and their children, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. George was born in Tecumseh, ON and spent his youth in Windsor until he joined the army in 1954. While in the army he spent time in New Brunswick, Montreal, Soest Germany, Winnipeg and finishing his career in Windsor, ON. After his retirement in 1982, George went to work for his sister Connie and his brother-in-law Bob at the Lock-it Mini Storage then Heaton Sanitation until he moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to his family, but his heart was always in Windsor, ON. Dad enjoyed golfing, reading and experimenting in the kitchen, making the best brownies and pecan pies. George was also a spectator of sports. He would channel surf every channel on the television until he found a sport to watch, even if it was wrestling so he and his grandson could debate about the main event. In keeping with George's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to the Canadian Liver Foundation, P.O. GILCHRIST, J. DOUGLAS (DOUG) - the death of J. Douglas (Doug) Gilchrist of Waterloo St., companion of Barbara Sinderly, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, August 24, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Saint John, a son of the late John and Hazel (Murphy) Gilchrist. Doug drove cab for Diamond Taxi, retiring fourteen years ago and was a member of the Buffalo Club for twenty years. Doug was an avid camper and fisherman. He will be sadly missed by his companion, Barbara; four stepsons, Michael (Barbara) Sinderly of Ontario, Christopher (Tammy) Sinderly of Saint John, Tracey (Andrea) Scott of Saint John, and Darrin (Nina) Scott of Ontario; three brothers, William (Billy) of Saint John, Ralph of Saint John, and Arthur of Quebec; one sister, Barbara Gilchrist; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by a brother, Ronald. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home 100 Waterloo Street, from where the service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 2:00pm with Rev. FRY, DAVID (DIGGER) - The death of David (Digger) Fry, age 56, loving husband of Betty (Hurley) Fry occurred unexpectedly on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Edgar and Helen (Rolston) Fry. David worked as a Sheriff with the Province of New Brunswick for 14 years. He was a wonderful husband and father and was loved and will be missed by all. Besides his loving wife, Betty, he is survived by his son, Michael Fry (girlfriend, Nicole Brown) of Saint John; sisters-in-law, Joyce (David) Bean of Sussex, Bernice (Marcel) Dignard, Faye and Hoyt Goulding and Florence Fry all of Saint John; aunt, Helen Fry of Saint John; cousin, Doug Shippee; several nieces and nephews and many friends. GALLAWAY, Orlie - At his home in Point Edward on Sunday, August 26th, 2007, in his 90th year, Orlie Gallaway passed away. He is survived by his wife Rene (Leaver) Gallaway, daughters, Ann McGaw of Oliphant and Linda James (Harvey) of Errol Village, sons Roger (Jane) and Jim (Brenda) both of Point Edward, as well 2 granddaughters: Elizabeth Whitehead and Sarah Kennedy and 9 grandsons: Warren and Steven James, Michael McGaw, Dave, Paul, Jamie, Terry, Eric and Michael Gallaway, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by sisters Auley Millard, Nina Mellon and Cora Luckins and brothers Garnet and Jack Gallaway. Orlie was a Tool and Die Maker for Autolite/Prestolite for more than 30 years and worked for Fleet Aircraft in Fort Erie from 1941-45. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Orlie's life will take place at St. Paul's Anglican Church (210 Michigan Ave., Point Edward) on Wednesday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Grace Coleman Anthony officiating. Private family interment services will be held later at Lakeview Cemetery. Mietek Weinreich At 80 years and one month, Mietek passed away peacefully on Saturday August 25th, 2007 at 1:30 AM at his home in Toronto. He was surrounded by his loved one who shared in his passing. He is greatly missed by his wife of 56 years Tamara; his son Erez and family - his wife Li, daughter Danielle and son in law Tony; his daughter Pnina and family - her husband Alon, son David and daughter in law Taryn, daughter Adee, son Jonathan, and son Ave; and son Yoram and his family - wife Ronit, son Raz, daughter Maya, son Ely and son Ariel. He is also missed by his extended family in Toronto, New York and Israel as well as his many, many friends. Mietek was born in Grojec, Poland on July 24, 1927 into a well to do family. Before the war, he had a privileged life and was dearly loved by his father, mother and sister. The war transformed his life and his future. Leaving his mother and sister in the safety of Nazi occupied Poland, his father took him and fled to Russian occupied Poland. He never saw his sister or mother again. With the outbreak of hostilities between Russia and Germany, Mietek and his father made their way into Russia - moving with the advancing Russian front. Along the way, Mietek lost his father and was left an orphan fending for himself. With the strength of his personality he made his way to Tashkent in Uzbekistan where he survived the remainder of the war. There, he worked in the mines for a time, and then was an assistant to a wartime "merchant". Along the way, he caught malaria which plagued him for the remainder of his life. But he survived, on little more than guts and determination. After the war, he made his way back to Poland to find what was left of his family. He reconnected with his cousin Luba - who helped him to stay in Poland. There he entered the orphanage Srodmorow. He became an ardent Zionist and joined Hashomer Hatzair - where he became a leader of his group establishing lifelong friendships In 1949, he emigrated to Israel and settled on Kibbutz Revadim. He became one of the pioneers that built the country - plowing the barren fields and making them bloom. He was a devoted socialist and Zionist and believed in the ideals of equality and a homeland for the Jewish people. His love for Israel was intense and passionate. His friendships from that time were deep and long lasting. During that time, he married his wife Tamara, and had two children - Erez and Pnina. In 1959, he and his family moved to Toronto. Here, he established a successful chain of retail stores that became Lumberking, Lumber City and Lumber Guys. He was a great marketer and had a love for merchandising and selling. In Canada, he had his final child - Yoram. Mietek was involved in many charities throughout his life. He helped found the Ann Frank foundation for needy children in Israel. He also raised funds for Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and Toronto. In later life, he was involved in JIAS where he helped many Russian Jewish immigrants to establish themselves in Canada. He was a member of Free Loan CASA which helped give financing to many Jewish people in need. In the past 47 years in Canada, Mietek created a great success - providing well for his family and giving the opportunity to succeed in their own right. A larger than life personality, Mietek was the center of any social gathering, business meeting or family function in which he participated. He was an intellectual who mastered 3 languages and read high literature in all. He was generous and warm. He opened his home to all. Often it was said that visitors from Israel to Toronto first went to customs and then went to the Weinreich home. This was often true. Mietek had a full rich life and a remarkable journey. We miss him dearly. LESCOMBE, Keith Raymond Jack, C.A. 83 years, peacefully, on August 26, 2007, at Malden Park Continuing Care Centre. Loving husband of Dorothy, with whom he celebrated over 60 years of marriage. Dear father of Todd and wife Sherry, and Craig. Loving grandfather of Kristin and Sara. Survived by sister Joan Cross. Predeceased by brother Alan, sister Pat and brother-in-law Ed Cross with whom he played many rounds of golf, and will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Keith was a veteran of WWII serving with the RCNVR and continued serving after the war. He served his community for over 20 years with the Windsor-St. Clair Rotary Club, becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. Keith retired from Rose City Ford and was on the Ford Accountants Honour Roll 31 times. DOIDGE, Harlow - On Monday, August 20th, 2007, Harlow (Harley) Lee Doidge passed away at Vancouver. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a man who touched many lives and will live on forever in our memories. Harley was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan on February 2nd, 1949. He grew up on his family's farm near Dafoe and completed high school in Wynyard. At 19, Harley left home and started his career with the RCMP. He proudly served 27 years throughout British Columbia. In 1994 he and his family retired in Kamloops. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred Doidge. He leaves to mourn his mother Nora, wife Joanne, son Michael (Shannon) and his precious grandson Landon, daughter Jodi, brothers Charles (Pat), Leon (Karen), nieces Melanie (Kevin), Holly, Charmaine (Greg) and Trena, his mother-in-law Sylvia, sister-in-law Sandy, Aunts (Jessica Fink, Joan Bamford and Irene Schubert) many cousins & good friends. Harley was a lover of country music, old westerns and the simple things in life. He was a protector and a provider who would do anything for those he loved. John E. Cassidy John E. Cassidy 90, of Villa Providence, Shediac, formerly of Royal Court, Riverview and Lutz Street, Moncton passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday August 25, 2007. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Charles and Celina (Bourque) Cassidy. John was a former employee of the Federal Government for over 35 years with Canada Post, D.O.T. and the Dept. of Public Works, retiring in 1974. John was a member of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, Past President of the Moncton Lions Club(1960-61), for many years he was involved in Junior & Senior Baseball and Hockey, one of the Founders of Moncton Little League & Pony League Baseball, member of Moncton Legion Branch #6, member of the Moncton Curlers Assoc. and was made an Honorary Life Member (1994) and was Past Chairman of the Monctonian Bonspiel (1982), NB Ganong Cup Play (1977) and the NB Seniors. Veteran of the 2nd World War, served in Canada and the North Atlantic Area with the Canadian Postal Corps S/Sgt (1940-45). LUCYSHYN, Adolph Edward - Following a lengthy valiant struggle with cancer, Al is now resting with the Lord in peace. Al passed away peacefully at the Northumberland Hills Hospital on Sunday August 26th, 2007, surrounded by the love of his family, at 80 years of age. Beloved husband of Patricia Margaret Rogers. Predeceased by his son Gary. Much loved father of Marlene Lapointe (Lloyd), Patricia Casteels (Ed), Christine Chapman (Andy Wright), Tracey Lucyshyn (Don Broomfield). Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Alexandira, and brothers Jack and Nick. Al leaves loving memories for siblings, Francis, Carl, Johnny, Alex and Theresa, as well as fifteen grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and in-laws. Origingally from Prudhome/Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Al moved to Toronto in his early twenties, where he met his wife and stared a family. They moved to the Colborne area in the late 60's, and then to Cobourg in 1995. Wherever Al went, he immediately was surrounded by new friends, drawn to his zest for life, easy going nature, and dedication to whatever he applied himself to, from being a loving husband and father, to a conscientious worker, to a caring friend to all. Al was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, earning his Fourth Degree, and worked tirelessly for the local chapter. Friends will be received at MACCOUBREY FUNERAL HOME, 30 King St. E. in Cobourg on Wednesday, August 29th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Parish Prayers to be said at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 8:30 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael's Church (Corner of University Ave. and Division St. in Cobourg) on Thursday, August 30th, at 1:30 pm. CARR, EVA ELIZABETH - On Friday, August 24th, 2007 at the Oromocto Public Hospital, Eva Elizabeth (Mowry) Carr of Geary, N.B., passed peacefully away surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born March 15th, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Harriett (Booker) Mowry, and the wife of the late Rued Carr. She was a devoted mother and friend to many over the years. Eva delighted in visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quiet kindness that reached out to all who knew her. Eva will be remembered for her life-long love of animals, birds and the beauty of nature. In addition to her parents and husband, Eva is predeceased by her sisters, Helen Harris, Mildred Harris, Doris Galbraith, Mae Morgan, Evelyn Duncan-White; and brothers, John, Stewart and Manford Mowry. Eva is survived by her children, Ronald (Linda) Carr of Fredericton, Bonnie (Robert) Harnish of Geary, Arthur (Debbie) Carr of Douglas, Darrell (Dolores) Carr of Moncton, Heather (Ian) Boone of Geary, Lorraine (Linden) Ball of Waterville, and Laurie (Darlene) Carr of Edmonton, AB; sister-in-law, Edith Allen of Fredericton; brother-in-law, Ray (Myrtle) Carr of Geary; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her little dog, Cindy-Lou. TURNER, Alma - Following the devastating effects of a stroke, Alma Turner passed away on Friday, August 24, 2007 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Tillsonburg. Predeceased by her husband Edmund Turner in 1993, Alma is survived by her son Jerry Edmund and his wife Suzanne of Tillsonburg, daughter-in-law Terry Turner, wife of the late James Arthur Turner (1991) of Sault Ste. Marie and their daughter Tamara. Brother Russell Sanderson and his wife Marie of Hamilton. Sister-in-law Caroline Sanderson wife of the late Harold Sanderson of Niagara Falls. Brother-in-law Herman Cote and his wife Ann of Niagara Falls, NY. Sister-in-law Catharine Free, wife of the late Bert Free of Fonthill, and sister- in-law Lois Turner, wife of the late Robert Turner of Niagara Falls. Granddaughter Kelly Turner and her husband Mike MacDonald and their three children, Jason, Kiara and Kirstin of Tillsonburg. Grandson Cullen Turner of Woodstock. LABONTE, Joseph Edward February 12, 1937 - August 25, 2007 Ed's gone fishing! It is with great sadness and love that we announce that Ed has passed on, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Ed was a loving husband to Joey, his loving dedicated wife of forty-seven years. Ed will be loved and never forgotten by his children Joe (Nadina), Michelle (Gary), and Angela (Brenda). He will be cherished and fondly remembered as the gentle, loving, teasing, joking Papa by his five grandchildren Amanda, Alex, Laura, Cole, and Nghia. Ed was born and raised in St. Paul, Alberta. Ed started his career with Trans Alta Energy as a pole guy. Ed celebrated his retirement as a dedicated thirty-five year employee of the Alberta Liquor Control Board in 1993. He was a gentle man filled with compassion and integrity and did not like to see anyone down on their luck. During his retirement years he enjoyed helping others as a volunteer driver for the Care Bears Society. Ed loved to fish, duck hunt and as a young man he explored the wilderness and surrounding landscape of the Foothills around Pincher Creek, often taking his family along for the adventure. Ed served on the boards of the St. Michael's School Board and Parish Council for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His passion for gardening kept his family's and extended family's pantries filled with fresh and canned tomatoes each and every year. The aroma of sweet peas every fall filled the house. He was an avid reader, always with a multitude of books on the go, and his mind was filled with facts that amazed us all. Prayers will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at Eden's Funeral Chapel. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, 958 Christie Avenue, Pincher Creek.
