ULJAREVIC, Dostinja 88 years. Peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2007, at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Borisa (1999). Loving mother of Spasoje, Milivoje, and Jovanka Uljarevic. Predeceased by her parents Jovan and Petrusa Mulina, brother Krsto, and sisters Jovana and Stana. Survived by her sister Kosa Sredanovic of Yugo-slavia. Will be forever remembered by her niece Zora Adzic and husband Ivan and their sons Nikola (Sara) (daughter Lian), Andrija (Jelena), Zora's niece and nephew, Aleksandra & Aleksandar Dzomba, family in Mil-waukee, WI, and Cleveland, OH, and many relatives in Yugoslavia. Will also be sadly missed by Kumovi in Oak-ville, Hawkesbury, Brantford, Windsor, and Michigan. NEAL, Frances Emeline October 5, 1927 – August 24, 2007 Peacefully, in her 80th year, at Victoria Village Manor in Barrie, on Friday August 24, 2007. Frances was born and raised in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. She was Controller for 25 years at Holt Renfrew's Bloor Street Store and spent 8 years in Finance at Hazelton Lanes in Toronto where she lived until her retirement. She then moved to her home on the water on Lake Simcoe in Innisfil. She lived her life with passion and great enthusiasm until being diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1995. Frances will be dearly missed by her Daughter, Barbara Grabinsky Phillips and her husband Murray, who gave her undivided love and care through her final years. Special memories will live on in the heart of her Grandson, Doug Grabinsky and his wife Rhonda, to whom she attentively taught the love of sports and many other life lessons. Her Great Grandson, Spencer Grabinsky, to whom she taught her wisdom and the importance of family, will ever- lovingly remember her. Frances is predeceased by her parents Helen and Rowland Hayman, and her youngest Brother Fred. She is survived by her Sister, Florence Graham and husband Lewis of Nova Scotia and Brother George Hayman of New Brunswick, as well as her many Nieces and Nephews. GAUDET, JOSEPH ALCIDE The death of Joseph Alcide Gaudet occurred on August 24th, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Charlie and Margaret Gaudet of Laketon, NB; three brothers, Wilbert, Joe and Jim of Fredericton, NB; three sisters, Amelia (Millie) Dine of Fredericton, NB, Mamie Kinsella of Chatham, NB, and Lottie Robie of California. Joe is survived by Wayne Kinsella (nephew); and several nieces, nephews and cousins; his caregivers, Millie Stewart and James Stewart. LEGERE, RONALD J. - The death of Ronald J. Legere, loving husband of Virginia (Fuentes) Legere of Damascus Road occurred on Sunday August 26, 2007 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born 1935 in Saint John he was the son of the late Guillaume William and Mary (Chaisson) Legere. Ronald worked as a Millwright with Local 2262 for 35 years. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force serving as a Peacekeeper in Egypt and Italy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. Thelma May Baldwin 1911-2007 Thelma May Baldwin, 95, of Moncton, formerly of Hillsborough and Albert, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2007 at the Moncton Hospital. Thelma was born on October 2, 1911 in Albert, the daughter of the late Silas and Meriam Turner. She was a retired school teacher and taught several generations of students throughout Albert and Westmorland Counties. She was a member of St, Mary's Anglican Church in Hillsborough. At the age of 95 she was still living independently. She had many stories about life in New Brunswick throughout the 20th century. She also had a great deal of knowledge and insight on many topics and was happy to sit down and talk to you about any subject you would like to discuss. She will be deeply missed by her son, Derek Baldwin of Toronto; daughter, Katherine Baldwin of Saint John; her sister, Alice James of Halifax; and three grandchildren, Robert, Jennifer and Mark; with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Scovil Baldwin. There will be no visitation honoring Thelma's own request. BRANDER, Stuart James (Jim) Died in Victoria on August 19, 2007 at the age of 91. Although quiet and modest, he was a truly heroic figure to many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Born in England on December 21, 1915, Jim showed a great affection for animals from earliest childhood. An outstanding student and athlete, Jim finished school in 1933 during the Great Depression and soon after joined the local police force in Stokeon-Trent where he remained until the beginning of the Second World War in 1939. He joined the British Armed Forces shortly after hostilities began and served with distinction for the full duration of the War, seeing extensive action, particularly in Burma and other parts of Southeast Asia. In 1947 he left the armed forces, married his wife Lorna (who predeceased him in 1992), and emigrated to Canada. After graduating from UBC with an engineering degree in 1952, Jim began a long and successful career as a civil engineer in Southern BC where he became a highly respected specialist in marine construction. He worked full-time until well into his 80s and continued work on a parttime basis thereafter. His last work-related file is dated 2006. At a personal level he was noted for being kind, considerate, and courageous, and for his understated but lively sense of humour. He is survived by his son Jim and daughter-inlaw Barbara, his granddaughter Cathy, his cousin Alice and her son John, his niece Janet and her children, and other relatives. Amongst his many friends, it is particularly important to acknowledge Ginnie, Moraia, Maggie, and Dawn, who contributed so much to his later years. It is also important to recognize his animal friends, particularly Tan, several Rovers, Basil, Charlie, Misty, Toby, and Norm. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 30 at 2:00 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC. We hope to see many of Jim's friends and associates. HUNTER, Edward May 20, 1919 - August 21, 2007 Ed Hunter passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 21, 2007. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Helen; children, Jean (Alan), Bev, Mary Lou (Blaine), Jim (Annette), daughter-in-law Chriss and son- in-law Garry; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Ed is also survived by his sister Mary and sister-in-law Jean (Cliff), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two baby sons, daughter Margaret and son Ted. MacDUFF, Sharon Crystal (nee Brandrick) 1947 - 2007 Sharon passed away suddenly at her home on August 13, 2007, after a lifelong battle of various illnesses. Despite struggling with numerous health problems she raised two children and supported her family valorously. Her ability to remain in high spirits, despite her health, was a source of inspiration to the family. Her greatest love was for her three grandchildren whom she delighted in playing with and adored being around. Sharon will be missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob (Sandrelle); her daughter and son-in-law, Kim (Steve) Gillette; three grandchildren, Zoe, Zach and Alice. ABRIAM, Brian Wayne June 13, 1977 - August 23, 2007 Brian Wayne Abriam of Calgary passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the age of 30. He was born in Calgary on June 13, 1977. He was diagnosed with leukemia in January 2005 and received two bone marrow transplants. He defeated his leukemia and had been in remission since June 2006. He passed away of lung complications from his recovery treatments. Although Brian's life was cut short, he accomplished so many things and touched so many people's lives. He excelled academically throughout his life, achieving things far greater than what was expected of him. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. degree in Biological Sciences. After graduating, he started his career as an environmental lab analyst for Bodycote. His coworkers described him as hard working and fun-loving. Brian enjoyed being active and played many sports such as basketball, hockey, skiing, karate, and rollerblading. In addition to sports, Brian had a fondness for a variety of hobbies, such as collecting comic books, building crafts, and cooking. He also had a passion for playing his guitar and drums. Throughout his illness, Brian's relentless attitude and faith is a true example of human triumph over suffering. His character embodies patience, hope, strength, and courage. What also distinguishes Brian from everyone is his pure heart. In addition to being intelligent and athletic, Brian was humble and caring. He would always think of others before himself. Moreover, many will remember Brian for his humorous and witty personality which was as contagious as his smile. Brian had a profound love for his family. He was the model son and big brother. He dearly respected, treasured, and loved his parents. To his younger brothers, he was a mentor, a best friend, and a hero. He also had a soft heart for his nephews, nieces, and younger cousins Darrius, A.G., Jonathan, Jeziah, Mylena, Julyan, Mateo, Katrina, and Robert. Brian is also loved by his countless friends, cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, godparents and other relatives, especially by Marilou, Melva, Beverly, and Gemma whom he treated as sisters. Brian is survived by his parents, Joe and Erlie, and his younger brothers Jason and Gene. Brian was predeceased by his grandparents from the Philippines, Genaro and Socorro Abriam and Mateo and Paulina Balbin. Brian and his family would like to give their sincerest thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the ICU of Foothills Hospital. We are especially grateful to Dr. Chaudry, Dr. Savoie, Dr. Zacharias, Dr. McCrae, and all the amazing and compassionate nurses of Unit 57 and the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic of the Tom Baker Centre. There are no words to describe how much we appreciate the care and joy you brought to Brian's life. You truly were his guardian angels.
