IRISH, E J W "Win" 1912 - 2007 It is with profound sadness that our family has had to say goodbye to a wonderful father, grandfather and true gentleman, Ernest James Wingett "Win" Irish of Calgary, on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the age of 94 years. No matter what the endeavour, the outcome would always reflect Win's strength of character and his absolute commitment to honesty, integrity and reliability. Win was born on December 23, 1912 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. He was raised and educated in Lethbridge, AB and West Vancouver, B.C. where he received his B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia. He then earned an M.Sc. from the University of Toronto, a Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and then began a long and varied career with the Geological Survey of Canada. He spent many years in the field completing much of the original mapping of Northern British Columbia. Win treasured his memories of his summer exploits and when prompted, would entertain us all with wilderness stories of local guides, pack horses and bear encounters. Win began his career in Ottawa and in 1962, moved his family to Calgary where he was employed by the Institute of Sedimentary and Petroleum Geology. He retired as the Scientific Editor in 1977. Win is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sue and their children, Chris and Catherine, David and Romaine and their children, Jason and Shawna, and Stephen and Jody and their children, Robert and Kelly. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly sixty years, Ursula, in 2002, and brother, Ronald. A Private Family Celebration of Win's life will be held. FONG Jung Won (Clarence) May 9, 1933 - August 26, 2007 Free at Last, Free at Last Thank the Lord He's Free at Last Clarence peacefully entered eternity embraced by his family and beloved son Michael. He joins his brothers Ron and Dale and leaves behind his sisters Laverna, Candy and Wanda. He spent many loving years with Aggie and son Michael. His legacy is grandsons Billy and Taylor. Clarence and Corinne's lives had been entwined the past 29 years. His inherited family of Brent and Donna, grandsons Brandon, Nathan and Jeffrey; Greg and Julie, granddaughters Brittney and Amber brought him joy. As a teenager Clarence worked on the CP Boats to Alaska, then had a lengthy career with CNCP Tele-Communications. He enjoyed and was active in the North Shore Winter Club during his earlier years. Later he lovingly cared for his dogs which had been rescued by the SPCA. Clarence was a good and stoic man. His treasured family and friends remained loyal and steadfast by his side during his ailing years. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice in memory of Clarence. ROSEBROOK, Myrna Gail Peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the age of 68 years, after a brave and courageous battle with heart disease, Myrna Gail Rosebrook (nee Parke) passed away in Ottawa, Ontario with her family by her side. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Ferne Peever (nee Parke), her husband John Boeyen and his family, her children Cheryl (Dave Bracken), Darlene (Jerry Nieczyporowski, Bob (Sue Pettes), Christina (Maurizio Barbieri), Stephen (Pamela Wiles) and her six grandchildren, Ryan and Amanda Bracken, Michael and Matthew Rosebrook and Grace and Jake Rosebrook. Myrna was loved by many nieces, nephews and friends and will be remembered fondly for her incredible kindness and compassion. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. OBITUARY WILLIAM EURFYL DAVIES (November 17, 1908 Burry Port Wales, Great Britain - August 7, 2007) In his ninety-ninth year, died in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Predeceased by his wife Monica (2006), brothers Howard and Tom, sister Elizabeth, nephew Eurof, grandnephew Mark, grandson Douglas (1992), he is survived by daughter Marguerite (Robert), sister Gwyneth, sisters-in-law Pearl and Sheila, nieces Pat (Mervyn), Susan (Stephen), Maureen (late Gordon), Kevin, Cathy, grandchildren Sandra (Richard), Carol (Keith) and Lois, great grandchildren Nadine, Sarah, Sonja, Jessica and Travis. Following coal mining and Royal Navy service (HMS Dispatch) around the Americas, he rose from fitter in Depression era Montreal industries to Chief Inspector with Aviation Electric. An athlete, he approached national level in rugby, soccer and cricket, later pursued golf, and taught all of his grandchildren how to swim. Bill and Monica left Montreal in 1984 to be near their daughter and her family. After his stroke in 2004, they moved to Lynn Valley Care Centre. He retained an impeccable memory of events, songs and hymns he sang in English, Welsh or French. He and his "Adorable One" celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary with family November 15, 2005. Many thanks to Lynn Valley Care Centre staff, especially favourite nurse, Elizabeth, caregiver Sheila and Dr. Leon Bard. A memorial service will be held October 1, 2007. SMART, Thomas - Passed away at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of the late Irene Smart (1989). He will be sadly missed by his son Wayne (Brenda) of Peterborough. Loving grandfather of Kevin (Jodi) of San Diego, CA and Keltie Ellwood (Mark) of Toronto. Dear brother-in-law of Gerald Cuff of Peterborough. Sadly missed by nephew Paul Kidd (Kim). Tom served overseas in Canadian Air Force during WWII with Royal Air Force Squadron 158 as a Flight Lieutenant. He retired from the Royal Bank in 1976 after 42 years of service. Thank you to the Royal Gardens' family where Tom spent his last 4 years, enjoying the fellowship of staff and residents.
