POST, Helen Chisholm (nee Stephen). (1920-2007) Passed away on Tuesday, August 21 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Post. Helen leaves behind a sister, Barbara Richardson and a brother Douglas Stephen (Alberta). She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Helen accomplished many things during her life including working for GMAC for 32 years, bicycling from Montreal to Toronto in the forties and taking the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary II in 2004. GUNTER, Nora Alexandra Nora Alexandra Gunter (nee Mitchell) was born in Medicine Hat June 30, 1914 and passed away peacefully on August 21, 2007. She will be greatly missed by all those how knew and loved her. Nora was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a descendant of two great pioneer ranching families, the Mitchells and the Hargraves and was predeceased by her parents, Helenora (Queenie) and James (Jimmy) Mitchell; as well as her sister, Helen; and brother, Hargrave Mitchell. Nora is survived by her loving husband of almost sixty-seven years, Allan Gunter; daughters, Alexandra (Tom) McMeekin, Elizabeth Gunter, Joan (Rod) McMillan; grandchildren, Hilary and Greg McMeekin, James (Melissa) McMillan, Alexandra (Kory Hill) McMillan; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Ashton, Hunter, and Hadyn; and a large extended family. The Graveside Service will be held in Hillside Cemetery, 10 Avenue and Gershaw Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, on Saturday, August 25, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Diane Beach officiating. Interment will follow in the Family Plot. A Celebration of Nora's life will follow at 12:00 noon at the Cypress Centre, Fireside Room, Medicine Hat. CRANZ, Dr. Harro August 9, 1920 August 16, 2007 With sadness, the family of Dr. Harro Cranz, announce his passing in Victoria, BC. He has gone to join the love of his life, his wife Dorothea. Predeceased by his eldest daughter Barbara, he leaves behind his remaining children, John, Christiane, Stephan, Andrea, Brenda, their spouses, 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, friends and relatives. Harro was born in Bern, Switzerland. As a young Doctor, he came to Canada in 1951 with his beloved wife Dorothea and their first two children. After completing his Canadian Medical Board Exams in Bathurst, New Brunswick and practicing medicine there for a few years, he moved his growing young family to Alberta to work as a GP and later as a Radiologist, until his retirement in Victoria, BC in 1984. His patients, family and friends loved him dearly despite his crusty bedside manner. He embraced yoga and vitamin therapy with fervor, long before these practices became popular. Throughout his life he was an avid skier and passed this tradition on to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to tropical locations with his wife and with her loving guidance, came to enjoy gardening and all that nature has to offer until the end. Above all else, was his love for his wife and children. His family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Beacon Hill Villa where he resided for the last 8 months. A very special thank you to all the staff of Douglas Care Home for their sensitivity, compassion and generousity during his last hours. Thank you to his caregiver Anabele and Dr. Mawdsley. A significant thanks to our sister Andrea for going above and beyond the call of duty in caring for our father, we are deeply indebted to you. CONN, Marjorie Marjorie Joan Elizabeth Conn passed away August 23, 2007 at the age of 83. Born in Tottenham, England on January 22, 1924 as Marjorie Chapman, she was the second of five children and moved to Calgary as an infant. Marge was a gentle caring soul who loved children. She could find pleasure in small things like a bird's song or the beauty of a flower. She sang for many years in church choirs. She was married to Wilfred "Bob" Conn in 1953 and was a loving homemaker until his death in 1999. She is survived by her son Bill, daughter-in-law Lorie and grandson Charles of Richardson, TX, as well as her brother, Stan, of Calgary. BIRD, Stuart Frederick "Fred" April 15, 1923 - August 6, 2007 S. Frederick Bird, (Fred) passed away on August 6, 2007 in Port Ludlow, Washington after suffering two strokes and an illness of two months. He was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the eldest son of Frederick G. Bird and Sara Maria (Mazie) Dagg. Fred is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Bobette Dott Bird; daughters, Deirdre Bird Kramer (Wes) of Stillwater, Minnesota and Marilyn Bird Johnson (Burt) of Eugene, Oregon; grandchildren, Marian Kramer (Eric), Charles Merrill, Ian Merrill, Paul Kramer; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Kramer (Jeff), Brianna Barbieri (Cory), Brett Johnson, and step-great- granddaughter, Maria Kramer Bryan. In addition, he is survived by his brother, C. Phillip W. Bird (Vera) of Montreal, Quebec, and his brother-in-law, Robert H. Dott, Jr. (Nancy) of Madison, Wisconsin. Fred is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ian Bird of Ontario, Canada. Fred's career in petroleum production and management started as a teenager working summers in the oil fields in Alberta, Canada. He spent his youth in Calgary, Alberta. His B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1944 led to an assignment by the government of Canada during World War II to Talara, Peru with International Petroleum Company, Ltd., a subsidiary of Exxon, as a trainee engineer. Bobette joined him in Peru in the spring of 1945 when they were married. Subsequently Fred's career took them to Tulsa, Oklahoma to work for Amarada Petroleum Corporation. He moved his family to Calgary, Alberta in 1954 when he joined Mobil Oil Corporation as a senior engineer. They moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, back to Calgary, to Victoria, Texas, Ankara, Turkey and in 1966 to Anaco, Venezuela where he was Eastern Manager for Mobil. In 1970 he was transferred to the New York City office, and he became Chairman of the Board of Colombia Petroleum Corporation, a joint Mobil/Texaco company operating in Bogota. In 1972 they moved to Tehran for two years, then Sumatra, Indonesia for three years and returned to the U.S. living in Denver and finally Dallas where he was Manager of Exploration Worldwide in new areas. He retired from Mobil in 1983 after thirty-eight years of exciting overseas service. Fred enjoyed twenty-four years of retirement between Palm Desert, California, Lake Oswego, Oregon, Port Ludlow, Washington, and Shuswap Lake, British Columbia, Canada. Fred is remembered for his anecdotal story telling. He entertained family and friends with animated, humorous relating of events which he had experienced through his life. He had a talent for creating great stories out of ordinary events, and captivating his audience in the telling. The foremost loves of his life were his family, hiking, and being in the outdoors, especially mountainous environments - Bragg Creek, Alberta, Canadian and Colorado Rockies, the Elborz Mountains in Iran, and Shuswap Lake, British Columbia. There will be a Celebration of Fred's Life on November 10 at Marrakesh Country Club, Palm Desert, California. His ashes will be buried at the family plot in Ottawa this fall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to support research on Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA) at Massachusetts General Hospital. CAA is the disease which ended Fred's life. HEENAN, MARGARET C. - The death of Margaret C. Heenan of Brentwood Crescent occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, August 24, 2007. Miss Heenan was born in Saint John, a daughter of the late William and Mary Josephine (McLaughlin) Heenan. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and the Chief Registered Medical Records Librarian at St. Joseph's for many years. She was a member of the Canadian Association of Health Records Librarians. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Heenan; and three sisters, Cecilia Heenan, Gertrude Heenan, and Constance Malo. She is survived by a sister, Audrey "Dot" Malo of Campbell River, B.C; her special friend, Jean Lafontaine; and several nieces and nephews, including David Malo of Mount Pisgah, N.B. ORR, David H. December 4, 1927 - August 20, 2007 At Vancouver, B.C. after a brief illness, it is with deepest sorrow that the family announces the loss of David H. Orr on August 20th, 2007 at the age of 79. Beloved husband to Connie (nee Wyman) for over 54 years and loving father to Kevin (Pierrette) of Ottawa, Tracey (John Dean) of Vancouver and Randy (Colleen) of Tsawwassen. He was an adoring grandfather to Joshua, Kaitlyn, Brooke, Paige, Kennedy and Parker. He also leaves his sister Theresa (Forest Peterson) of Richmond, VA and nieces and nephews. David was born and raised in St. Stephen, NB. He thrived in a career of broadcasting, public relations and telecommunications beginning in Saint John, NB where he met his wife. Together they moved many times across Canada to cities including Fredericton, Halifax, Ottawa, Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. An accomplished public relations practitioner, his career spanned Canadian Pacific Railways (CPR), Radio Press, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Bell Canada and Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE) where he was head of corporate communications from its formation in 1983 until 1991 when he retired to Vancouver. He was president of the Maritime Public Relations Society, the Ottawa Public Relations Society and the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS). He enjoyed travelling all over the globe for business and pleasure. Remembered as a great communicator, he could always come up with another question when you thought you had exhausted all your answers. A brilliant strategist, he had the uncanny ability to read a situation in advance and be prepared with the right response and a plan for action when called upon. Loving, kind and considerate with a quick, warm smile, he was always the beacon of honour, trust and respect. NICOUD, Marcelle Rose Marcelle Rose Nicoud, born on November 11, 1915 at Coronation, Alberta, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Cedars Villa Extended Care, Calgary, on August 23, 2007 at the age of 91 years. Marcelle was the second oldest of nine children born to the farming family of August and Louise Nicoud of French heritage. She was a long-time employee of Parisian Clothing Store in downtown Calgary. She was a warm, pleasant lady who never complained and treated everyone she knew with respect and kindness. Marcelle is survived and remembered fondly by her brother Fleury Nicoud of Coronation, and two sisters, Beatrice Galloway of Merrit, BC and Clarice Nicoud of Calgary. She will be missed by her many relatives, especially her numerous nieces and nephews. MURRAY, John Alexander (Jack) 1918 - 2007 Jack Murray passed away at the Bow View Manor on Thursday, August 23, 2007. He was predeceased by his wife Gwen in 1997 and sister Margaret in 2005. Jack is survived by one sister Helen (Ron) Hamilton of Vancouver, BC, sister-in-law Lois Anderson of Calgary, stepdaughter Beth (Charles) Fish of Salmon Arm, BC and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Calgary, he farmed in the Simon's Valley district and later semi-retired to the Cochrane area where he worked on local movie sets. Jack was an ardent horseman, who drove heavy horses in the Stampede Parade and thoroughly enjoyed providing hay rides at Stampede breakfasts. WILLIAMS, GEORGE May 23, 1955 to August 21, 2007 We are profoundly saddened to report that George Williams passed away at the age of 52 after an eight month battle with cancer. George will be forever missed by his loving wife of 27 years, Maureen (Moe) Williams (married May 12, 1979) and his devoted sons, Derek and Ian, all of Medicine Hat, Alberta. George was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Ann Williams in 1969 and survived by his sister, Dale Williams Long and her family, by his father, George and by his aunts, Josephine Williams and Joan Hamilton and many other friends and family from New Brunswick. George passionately loved his family and was totally dedicated to Moe, Derek and Ian. If you were lucky enough to be his friend, he was a friend for life. George was a hard worker but enjoyed fishing, fine wines, parties, shopping for Moe, billiards, sports games and any activity involving his family and friends. George was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and graduated from the Saint John Vocational High School later moving to Alberta in 1977. An occupation as a millwright evolved into a new career in the oil patch as a gas plant operator for D.M. Wolcott and Associates and later Atco Midstream. In 2006, George started a company called Enviro Earthworks Ltd., an environmental reclamation company. The funeral service will be held at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, Medicine Hat, Alberta, on Friday, August 24th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alphonse Narisetty officiating. A celebration of George's life will be held at the Medicine Hat Lodge located on the TransCanada Highway at Dunmore Road following the funeral service. A Memorial Service will be held in Saint John, New Brunswick at a later date. RUSHTON - Lola May Rushton was called home on August 22, 2007. She was the wife of the late Arthur Rushton, Sr., of McAdam, NB. Survived by one son, Arthur Frederick Rushton, Jr., Fredericton, NB, one granddaughter, Angela Short (Brian), and three great grandchildren, Shelby, Shawna and Christopher and several nieces and nephews. MACKIE, ALICE R. - The death of Alice Ramona Mackie of Sussex Drive, Saint John, wife of the late Donald Mackie, occurred peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in Chatham, New Brunswick on July 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lauretta (Travis) Green. Mrs. Mackie was employed for several years at MRA's and Pascal-Emerson's. She was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #53 and volunteered much of her time to various causes in the Saint John area. She was an avid bingo player, loved animals and traveling, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed. Alice is survived by her daughter, Heather L. Stordy and her husband Brian of Moncton, three grandchildren, Lucas D. Guimond, Samantha M. Stordy and Alicia L. Stordy, cousin, Pam Dalton (Ron) of Miramichi and many friends. HALL, RANDY EARL - The death of Randy Earl Hall of Penobsquis occurred by accident on August 22, 2007 at the age of 31. Randy is survived by his wife, Darlene (Rosevear) Hall; his parents, Percy and Betty Ann Hall of Mount Middleton; maternal grandmother, Edris Anderson; sister, Samantha Hall; and brothers, Mark (Lori Brown) of Knightville, Troy of Knightville, Jeffery (Danielle) of Red Deer, Nicholas (Nicole Foran) of Edmonton and Benjamin of Mount Middleton; stepdaughter, Shannon Davis (Dustin Cunningham) of Penobsquis; and stepson, Mike Davis (Amanda Dennison) of Picadilly; three step grandchildren; two nieces; and three nephews; several aunts and uncles. GOLDING, ESTELLA MAUDE (TED) - The death of Estella Maude (Ted) Golding, wife of the late Douglas W. Golding, occurred on August 21, 2006 at the Church Home of St. John & St. Stephen. Born in 1910 in Flower's Cove on Grand Lake, Queens County to Benjamin and Maude (MacMann) Flower. Ted spent her early years in Newcastle Creek, Minto and Saint John where she graduated from Saint John High School. In 1928 she graduated from Mount Allison Ladies College in stenography. Before her marriage she worked for K. C. Irving as his secretary. In later years she was secretary to the medical director of the Saint John General Hospital, secretary to the director of the United Way Saint John, and secretary of the Learning Disabilities Centre in Fredericton. Above all she was a wonderful homemaker, cook and crafts woman. She was generous to all with her knitting. She will be deeply missed by her son, James, Fredericton; and daughters, Janet (Christopher) Hawkins, Halifax and Mary Jane (Gary) Case, Grand Bay-Westfield; and by her three cherished granddaughters, Andrea and Meghan Case, Saint John and Catherine Hawkins, Canmore, AB. She is also survived by nephew, Peter (Wendy) Kent and grand nephew, Darryl (Joe Ann) Kent, all of Fredericton. Ted was predeceased by her husband Douglas W., 1975 and sister Lois M. Kent in 1979. Following cremation at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am from Brenans Chapel. Interment at Fernhill Cemetery.
