LOOSMORE, Robert John Died on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. Survived by his wife Doreen and sister-in-law Alix Cowie, and in England by sister-in-law Anne-Marie Loosmore, nephew Guy, four grand nephews and several cousins. Born in Spalding, Lincolnshire, England on August 7, 1919 and grew up in Manchester. During WWII, served with the Royal Artillery in England, Nigeria and India. Graduated from Manchester University. Immigrated to Canada in 1949, spent many years in Ottawa as an economist with the Public Service of Canada and retired to Victoria. FIELL, Elizabeth (Betty) (nee Schnell) February 17, 1938 - July 26, 2007 With great sorrow, the family announces the passing of Betty Fiell on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at the age of 69 years. After a long battle with cancer which was fought with unsurpassed courage and grace, Betty passed away in peace, with calm acceptance, and with the dignity that marked her entire life. Betty was born in rural Saskatchewan and although she left for urban life at the age of nineteen, she carried and treasured the beauty of the family farm and the Saskatchewan prairie within her soul for her entire life. She came to Calgary and met and married the love of her life at the age of twenty-one. While raising children and maintaining a warm and perfect home, Betty also succeeded in the work world. She had a long and successful career at Gulf Oil and also applied her considerable business acumen and talent to the family shoe business. A highly skilled cook and gifted gardener, Mom bought many, many hours of joy and happiness to her family and friends. She had an innate understanding of the true meaning of hospitality and more than this, was a talented and supremely wise wife, mother, friend, and mentor who always provided exactly what was needed. Her death is an immeasurable loss, and we will need every example of her courage to help us live without her. Mom will be remembered with profound gratitude for her gentle and kind love, her graciousness, her compassion for others, and for her ability to bear her burdens without a single complaint. She lived her life by the example she set. Her quiet but formidable courage, strength, and kindness will never be forgotten and will remain forever locked in the hearts of her family. Betty is survived by Andrew Fiell, her loving husband of forty-eight years; her cherished daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Calvin; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lisa Fiell; and her much loved and adored grandchildren, Spencer Calvin and Lindsay and Sean Fiell. Betty also leaves her mother Amelia Schnell and her brothers and sister and all of their families. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law and their families. Betty is predeceased by her father Frank Schnell and her infant brother Richard Schnell. CROSS, Desta (nee Froom) Passed away peacefully, on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the age of 88. Loving wife of the late G. Dickson Cross. Devoted mother of Elizabeth MacDonald (John Burgman). Cherished grandmother of Rachel and Caroline. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Joyce Froom and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cross was predeceased by her sister Clara (late Dean Hunter) and brothers Walter, Arnold (late Pauline) and Bernie (late Grace). Mrs. Cross began her teaching career in 1937 at a one-room school south of Ottawa. She retired from the North York Board of Education in 1982. Mrs. Cross resided in Fonthill, Ontario after her retirement and moved to Union Villa, Unionville, Ontario in 1998. Guy Cadieux, of Smooth Rock Falls, died at Smooth Rock Falls Hospital on July 29, 2007. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Marcelle; children: Diane (Alain) Cousineau of Oshawa, Denis (Michelle) of Smooth Rock Falls and Louise (Daniel) Giroux of River Valley; siblings: Alice (Lorne), Gabrielle (Ron), Lise (Émile) and Gerry (Thérèse) all from Port Alberni, British Columbia and grandchildren: Steven, Alain, Michael and Jorden. Mr. Cadieux was predeceased by his parents Lionel and Aurore. Father Léo Papineau officiated at the funeral service Aug. 2, 2007 at Ste. Gertrude Church, SRF. DRAPER, Olive Clarice (nee Buchanan) November 7, 1918 - July 27, 2007 Olive Draper, of Calgary, passed away July 27, 2007 at the Beverly Centre at the age of 88 years. She will be dearly missed by her four children Ken Draper (Belinda) of Australia, Janet Comb (David), Marjorie Kerrison (Ted) and Neil Draper (Glenda) all of Calgary; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; a sister Joy Leckie of Calgary; a brother John Buchanan (Sandy) of Vancouver Island; and many other relatives and friends. Olive was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters. Olive will be remembered for her many years of work as a Unit Manager at the Calgary General Hospital. She treasured her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and felt honoured to serve as a missionary in Las Vegas, Nevada, as a Relief Society President and in many other callings in the sixth ward which was her home for many years. Olive loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and cross country skiing. She was hard working, was always positive in living an exemplary life of faith. Above all, she will be remembered as a wonderful mother. EDDY, Roy Roy Eddy, 55, died tragically in a motor vehicle accident on July 22, 2007. He was born May 9, 1952 in Spokane, Washington. He lived in Calgary, Alberta where he was married to Barb Eddy for thirty-six years. Roy is survived by his mother and father, Pearl and Robert and his mother-in-law Anne, his loving wife Barb and his children Tasha, John and Samantha. DUBENOFSKY, Norma (nee Fraser) RN, MPA - On July 25th in her 73rd year, moved into an even fuller life. Dear mother of Gary and Steve; loving grandmother of Lauren and Rachel; and sister of Jean Beale and Lois McCullough. Norma was an affectionate friend of Lois and Sam Davis (deceased) as well as being a respected colleague in academic affairs and a warm and comforting companion. Norma had extensive nursing experience in the Emergency and Out-Patient Departments at Hotel Dieu Hospital and also served at Iqalvit, NWT. She has a very wide range of friends and acquaintances in many circles in Kingston and was well respected. In retirement she had a wealth of interests including gardening, cooking, reading and particularly painting. DUFOE, Lyle E. - In loving memory of Lyle E. Dufoe, 25 years, tragically on Monday, July 23rd, 2007 at Kidd Creek Mine, Timmins. Lyle was born in Smiths Falls. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. During his youth he played various sports being a member of a champion soccer team and later he helped coach high school football teams. He also had been with the stage crew for the Evolutionary Rock Band. He had been a qualified signal maintainer with the CPR for 5 1/2 years, last year he became a miner with Xstrata at the Kidd Creek Mine. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, mechanical work, and socializing with friends. A tradition of Lyle's was to burn snowmen at New Year's. Lyle will be remembered as a loyal, intelligent and hardworking person who detested bullies and always stood up for the little guy. Lyle's family will cherish his light of love that will comfort them in the dark days of this tragedy. Beloved son of Ephraim and Cheryl (Libbey) Dufoe of Wahnapitae. Loving brother of Matthew (friend Stephanie) and Jonathan. Cecile Bergeron On July 19, 2007, Englehart resident Cecile Bergeron died at the Northview Nursing Home in Englehart. She was born in Montreal on June 1, 1916, to Rodrigue Lauzon and Alberta Neveu. She was educated in Sainte-Anne-Des-Plaines, Quebec, where she also married her husband Emilien Bergeron on May 3, 1947. They moved here that same year, from Sainte-Anne-Des-Plaines, where she was a housewife and worked on the farm. She was a member of the Catholic Woman’s League at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Englehart. She is survived by her children, Lucie Bergeron and Albert Bergeron (wife Claudette); grandchildren Michelle, Valerie and David; great grandchild, Kiana; siblings, Madeleine Bourdua (husband Victor), Pauline and Noel. She was predeceased by her husband, Emilien and a daughter who died at two months of age; parents, Rodrigue and Alberta; brothers, Bruno, Joseph-Albert, Roger and Aime. VON SCHEUNEMANN, Hildegarde (Bentrup) (nee Bachmann) - In loving memory of Hildegarde (Bentrup) von Scheunemann (nee Bachmann), 76 years, who passed away Monday, July 23rd, 2007 at the SRH - Laurentian Site. Born in Berlin, Germany, Hildegarde grew up participating in the family radio station. She was strongly influenced and empowered by her father as a youth. She had been an accountant at Townsend Stefura and Balshta Architects, and then worked at the Taxation Data Center. An active person, Hilda had many interests which included dancing, badminton, travelling, wine making, and participating in the local German Club. She will be remembered as a hardworking and intelligent person who enjoyed socializing with friends, spending quality time with her loving family and enjoying her canine companions Tusso, Tuffy, Blondie and Ducky all predeceased. Beloved wife of Harold Bentrup (1995) and Karl von Scheunemann (2007) both predeceased. Loving mother of Bernice Anthony (husband James predeceased) (friend Tom Clarke) of Cobourg and Claudette Anthony (husband Michael) of Lake Wahnapitae. Cherished Omi of Christopher (Melissa), Shaun, Michael, and Amanda. Dear daughter of Bernahardt and Elisabeth Bachmann predeceased. Dear sister of Willy predeceased. Memorial Service in the R.J. CAMPBELL, Lloyd A. - The family announces with sorrow the passing of beloved husband of Adelaide (Pilon) on July 24th, 2007 at the age of 90 years. Loving father of Gale (husband Oscar Clouthier) of Sudbury, Bryan Campbell (wife Jo-Anne) of Florida and Wade Campbell of Toronto. Cherished grandfather of 5 grandchildren, Bryan Clouthier (wife Jayna), Amber Hawkes (husband Bill), Jason Lunin (wife Mary), Laurin and Christopher. He had 5 great grandchildren, Jade, Regan, Kurtis, Sarah and Olivia. Brother-in-law Joe Pilon (wife Lucy) of Sudbury. Born in Nipissing on March 2nd, 1917 he moved to Sudbury in 1939 where he met and married Adelaide in 1940. He worked for INCO for 39 years. He came from a family of 11 children; parents Albert and Ruby Campbell (both predeceased), brother Clinton (predeceased), sister Evelyn (predeceased), brother Dinty (predeceased), sister Joan (predeceased), sister Elsie (predeceased), sister June (predeceased), sister Blanche of Oakville, sister Dorothy of Toronto, sister Jean of Puslinch and brother Jimmy of North Bay. BLENDER, Bertha May passed away in Regina on July 25, 2007 at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Beatrice Young; twin sister Irene; brother John and loving husband Alexander in 2000. Bertha is survived by a niece Vivian (John) Hutchison; sisters-in-law Lee Young and Diane (Roland) Hout and their family; cousins in England and Australia; and special friend Gertrude Hubelit and family. Bertha was born in England, coming to Canada at the age of five. She arrived in eastern Canada and finally settled in Saskatchewan, where she grew up and met her husband of 52 years. Bertha will be missed by her coffee friends at Northgate. KOVACS, Gabor September 12, 1928 - July 24, 2007 Gabor Kovacs passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the age of 78 years. He was born in the small town of Mad, Hungary where he then immigrated to Canada in 1957. He proudly lived his life and built his family's home in Chestermere, outside of Calgary, AB. He was a passionately devoted Hungarian freedom fighter dedicating over fifty-five years of his love and time. The past eight years were filled with peace and joy spending time faithfully and lovingly with his little Princess and his Best Friend. He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Agnes and her husband Michael Ominger of Calgary, Kristy, husband Michael Cloutier, and his grandchildren Madison, Colton, Michelle and Ashlee of Calgary. He is also survived by his brother Steve Kovacs of Calgary, his daughter, granddaughter, and nephew of Hungary. MAHONY, John "Jack" August 4, 1955 - July 26, 2007 After a brave battle with cancer, John Mahony Jr. passed away in Calgary on Thursday, July 26 at the age of 51, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his parents, John and Margaret Mahony; five siblings, Mary (Jeff), Mike (Lorna), Jim, Maureen (Trent) and Dennis (Zoe); nephews, Alexander, Andrew, Liam, Conrad and John; nieces, Kenna, Kianna, Michaela, Shannon and Lauren; aunts Maureen (Montgomery) and Eileen (Christopherson); and uncle Les (Spalding). Jack had a life-long fascination with all things mechanical, and a gift for fixing them. He earned his certificate as an Appliance Technician at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, ran his own appliance service business and in recent years, worked with the Home Depot. He also served his community through volunteer work and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. We are profoundly saddened at Jack's passing but comforted that he is at last enjoying his eternal reward. The family extends a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Unit 47, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Palliative Home Care and the Rosedale Hospice, whose professionalism, sensitivity and compassion was inspiring, and who provided a loving environment for Jack in his last weeks. Prayers were held at St. Luke's Catholic Church (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive N.W.) Monday, July 30, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke's today, July 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. WILSON, Mary Alberta (nee White) December 28, 1914 - July 22, 2007 Mary Wilson passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2007 in Cremona, Alberta. Mary was born on the family homestead west of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan. She married Norman Wilson of Weyburn in 1938. Mary was predeceased by Norman in January, 1990. Mary is survived by her son Wayne (Elaine), grandson Doug as well as two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
