Bernard (Ben) Sawatzky Ben passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the age of 76 years. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Helen of 44 years and his six children, Larry (Deborah), Brian (Lynda), Darlene (Ian), Barry, Wayne and Sandra, as well as 14 grandchildren. He will be missed by his brothers John and Dave as well as his sisters Anne, Susan, Elma and in-laws. He was predeceased by his sister Dora. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Interment and reception to follow. MERSEREAU, MALCOM EDWARD The passing of Malcolm Edward Mersereau of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Alice (Hallett) Mersereau, occurred on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Davidson Lake. Born in Blissfield, NB, he was a son of the late Ernest and Stella (Bamford) Mersereau. Malcolm was an active member of the Nashwaaksis Baptist Church, member of the Nashwaaksis Y's Men Club and also the 25 Year Club with N.B Power. He worked as an engineer with N.B Power for 25 years. He loved the outdoors, enjoying skiing, hiking, hunting and especially spending time at his cottage at Davidson Lake. Malcolm is survived by one son, Laurie (Doris) Mersereau of Fredericton, NB; two grandchildren, Jill and Michelle; one brother, Lloyd Mersereau of Blissfield, NB and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Malcolm was predeceased by two brothers, Charlie and Murray and one sister, Zella Mersereau. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Nashwaaksis Baptist Church, Fredericton, on Friday, June,15, 2007 at 2 pm with Rev. Kevin Culberson officiating. JOYCE, RONALD HOLLAND The death of Ronald Holland Joyce of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, June 12, 2007. Born in Prince William, NB, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Janie (Scott) Joyce and the husband of Jacinthe (Durepos) Joyce. Ronald worked at the Department of Transportation for 35 years. He was Senior Technician advisor for Bridge Maintenance and highly regarded for his expertise and dedication. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers for 25 years and served as a Past Grand Counselor. He was also an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #27 for 33 years. He is survived by his wife, Jacinthe; daughter, Danielle Joyce of Fredericton, NB; sister, Mary Joyce of Halifax, NS; half brother, John (Lois) Coffey of Saint John, NB; great aunt, Dorothy (Chetwynd) Scott of Lockport, NS as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, June 15th, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. William P. Gulliver 1932 - 2007 MIRAMICHI, NB - William Percival Gulliver, husband of the late Juliette Gulliver, of the Bay du Vin River Road, Bay du Vin, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, June 12th, 2007, at the age of 74. Born in Bay du Vin, he was the son of the late John and Mabel (Williston) Gulliver. He was a fisherman and a retired employee of the Dept. of National Defense. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Bay du Vin. He is survived by four sons, Raymond Gulliver (Linda), of Bay du Vin, Ian Gulliver, of Lower Sackville, N.S., Edward Gulliver, of Fredericton, Darren Gulliver, of Bay du Vin; four grandchildren, Vicky, Kelly, Justin and Brandon; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Juliette McIntyre, in 2004. Visiting will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King Street, Miramichi, on Thursday, June 14th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. McCORMICK, BRIEN C. - With Great sadness, we announce the death of Brien Charles McCormick of Saint John, NB, which occurred on June 12, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. Born in Fairville, Saint John, he was the son of the late, Charles and Catherine (O'Brien) McCormick. Brien was employed with the Telegraph Courier during WW II and was a life long employee of the I.L.A. He played for the Saint John Beaver and the Saint John Pontiacs Hockey team in 1943, he was also a life time member of the Knights of Columbus. Brien loved spending his summers on Kennebecasis (McCormick's) Island. Survived by his wife, Gladys (Gauthier), his sons, Kevin, John (Tanya) and Paul McCormick and his grandson, Reilly O'Hearon, all of Saint John. CONNERS, William Earl (Bill) - In the early morning of June 13th, 2007, the world lost a wonderful man. Bill passed away after a brief illness at the age of 78. Dearly loved “Pal“ of Joyce, his wife of nearly 55 years. Bill leaves behind his daughter Laurie (Roy) Villers of McKinney, Texas and his son Bill Jr. (Barb) of St. Catharines, Ont. Two grandsons Ryan (Marlena) Villers of St. Catharines, Ont., and Kyle Villers and his fianceé Vanessa Liddiard of Toronto, Ont. He also leaves a great-grandson Nolan Joseph Villers and another great grandson expected in August, Carson William Roy Villers. He leaves behind two sisters Shirley (Greg) Sullivan of London, Ont. and Carol (Jack) Frankcom of Smith Falls, Ont and a brother; Jim (the late Bernice) also of London, Ont. Bill was predeceased by one sister; Joanne and her husband Bud Young of London, Ont. and by one brother Jay (Susan) of St. Catharines, Ont. Bill is also survived by a brother-in-law David (Gisella) Jones of St. Catharines, Ont. and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill played horseshoes and darts in the Port leagues many years and enjoyed many good times. Bill worked as a transport driver for Direct Winters and later as a driver and heavy machinery mover for Hendries & Co. retiring in 1993. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family was his pride and joy and he enjoyed every single moment he spent with them. DAISLEY, Audrey Eileen (nee Scholfield) of Port Colborne passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the Port Colborne General Hospital on Wednesday June 13, 2007 at the age of 78 years. Beloved wife of the late Sylvester (Rocky) Daisley (1969), loving mother of David Daisley and his wife Sera of Port Colborne, devoted grandmother of Andrea and Adam Daisley both at home, sister of John Scholfield and his wife Pat of Port Colborne, aunt of Susan Scholfield of Niagara Falls and Jack Scholfield of Pennsylvania. COOK, George John of Port Colborne passed away at his residence on Wednesday June 13, 2007 at the age of 97 years. Mr. Cook was predeceased by his wife Meryl (nee Templain) Cook (2004) and his parents John and Annetta Cook. He is survived by his daughter Beverly Parsons and her husband Barry of St. Thomas, his grandchildren Bob Parsons of Oakville and Barb Granger and her husband Mike of St. Thomas, his great grandchildren Christian, Ella and Nathaniel Granger, his sister-in-law Alma Davison of Port Colborne, his niece Coleen Riegle and great niece Stephanie Ferland and her husband James. He was a self employed carpenter for many years. Mr. Cook was a member of the Port Colborne Lions Club for over 42 years, he served on the Board of Directors of the Port Colborne Public Library and was a Charter Member of the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Richard (Diane), Mario (Chantal), Yves et Georgette; deux petites-filles: Caroline (Carl Prévost) et Martine (Martin Ménard), ainsi que trois arrière-petits-enfants : Ariane, Dominick et Sarah. Elle laisse également dans la peine un frère et trois sœurs: Toussaint (Annette Prévost), Gabrielle (feu Albert Touchette), Cécile (feu Armand Roy) et Alice (Raymond Ivall); une tante, Jeanne Robitaille (feu Aurèle Laurin). Elle laisse aussi plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousin(e)s, beaux-frères, belles-sœurs et ami(e)s. Elle fut prédécédée par un fils, Jacques Bernier, par un frère, Roger Robitaille (Lise Labelle) ainsi que par un petit-fils, Jean-François Bernier. À sa demande , il n'y aura pas de visites au salon funéraire. Un service religieux en présence des cendres aura lieu le samedi 16 juin 2007 à 11h, en l'église St-Jean L'Évangéliste de Thurso, suivi de l'inhumation au cimetière de la paroisse de St-Sixte. La famille recevra les condoléances à l'église à compter de 10h30. SAVAGE, Donald “Don“ Leonard - In loving memory of Donald “Don“ Leonard Savage, 75 years, who passed away Tuesday, June 12th, 2007 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Centre. Don is survived by his wife Catherine of Sudbury, brother James (wife Patricia) of Lively, 3 daughters Lynda Cameron (Howard Riley) of Sarnia, Christine Cameron (Scott Cameron) of Sarnia, Lori McNamee (Peter McNamee) of Whitby, and predeceased by sons Ronnie and Gary. Survived by 5 grandchildren Ryan Brown and Cole Cameron of Toronto, Jay, Melissa, and Sarah Cameron of Sarnia; and 1 great grandson Cye Cameron-Nesbitt of Sarnia. Don was the beloved son of Ernest and Mae Savage, predeceased. Don was born in Sudbury November 4th, 1931 and was a great hockey player. In 1949 he played with Point Edward Juveniles who went to the Provincial finals; 1949-1950 Junior B Sarnia Sailors and voted Most Valuable Player; 1950-1951 Junior B Sarnia Sailors who won all Ontario Hockey Championship, won scoring league title; 1951-1952 played Junior A with Barrie Flyers; 1952-1954 played with Sarnia Sailors in Senior A League; 1954-1958 was with Sarnia Sailors when they played in Senior B League. He won scoring title one year and was voted to All Star Team 3 years; 1958-1960 played with Wallaceburg in Senior B League, voted all Star Team both years; 1960-1962 Senior A with Sarnia Rams, player and coach; 1963-1966 played in City League hockey; 1965-1966-1967 was Manager of Sarnia Legionnaires Junior B hockey team. They won all Ontario Championship in 1967; 1967-1968 coached Sarnia Legionnaires, Junior B; 1969-1974 coached Midget Hockey and won 4 City League Championships. He also had a tryout for the Boston Bruins but didn't pursue this. He was inducted into Sarnia Lambton Sports Hall of Fame 1992. Don lived in Timmins, Sarnia, French River and Sudbury, ON and was the purchasing agent for Chemical Valley Fabricating in Sarnia, co-owner of Progress Fab. Ltd., Sarnia and co-owner of Alloy Fab. He was born in Boxorina, Kozanis, Greece and immigrated to Canada, settling in Sudbury in 1968. He worked at Falconbridge Ltd for 31 years, retiring in 1998. He was known by his co-workers as “Dennis the Greek“. Proud of his Greek Heritage, Dennis was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. After retiring he developed a passion for playing and making musical instruments, in particular the mandolin and Bouzouki. Dennis was well liked and respected by his many friends. He will be remembered for his good sense of humour, his inspired work ethic and devotion to his loving family. Beloved husband for 40 years of Thomai (Tzimoulis) Kafetzis. Dedicated and cherished father of Theodore, James and Frank. Loving son of Fotios and Polixeni Kafetzis predeceased. Gordon August 12, 1947 - June 4, 2007 Corporate Relations Manager The Ottawa Food Bank Gordon passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 4th, 2007, in his 60th year, with the love and support of his family around him. Gordon was the cherished husband of Catherine Christin-Pearson and dearly loved father of Laura and Robert Pearson. He was the only child of the late Margaret Agnes Pearson (nee Pitt) and Douglas Victor Pearson of Toronto. Gordon is sadly missed by his family of brothers- and sisters-in-law: Chris & Diane, Margie & Derek, Ruby (the late Michael Boucher), Carol & Bill, and his nieces and nephews: James, Jennifer, Maddie, Rebecca, Meaghan, Heather, Cory, Charlie, Meghan and Mary. He will be dearly missed by his mother-in-law, Fay Christin, father-in-law, Harry, and Harry's wife, Nonie Christin, as well as his many Pitt family members throughout Ontario whose prayers, support and love have helped him through this past year. He will be especially missed by his oldest friends, John Eaton and Ted Hagen and their families, and his great circle of friends at the Ottawa Food Bank and the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa-Vanier. Born and educated in Toronto, Gordon's fundraising career began with the Toronto dance company Ballet Ys (Artistic Director Gloria Grant). He moved to Ottawa in 1980 as the General Manager of the newly-formed company, Theatre Ballet of Canada (TBC), (Artistic Director Laurence Gradus). He was a founding member of the Dance in Canada Festival, created here in Ottawa in 1982. In 1992, TBC became The Ottawa Ballet (Artistic Director Frank Augustyn). In 2000 Gordon found his 'home' with The Ottawa Food Bank as Corporate Relations Manager. As part of The Ottawa Food Bank family, Gordon left an indelible impression on everyone he met - friends, volunteers and supporters alike. His commitment was unwavering and anyone who crossed his path felt its impact. Gordon was a driving force behind many successful Food Bank initiatives, not the least of which was the Food Aid program for which he served as co-chair. His wit, enthusiasm and, above all, his friendship will stand as an example and will keep him in mind everyday. A member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa-Vanier since 2002, he was chair of the Fundraising Committee and made the Santa's Souper Singers a successful annual winter event that collected donations for The Ottawa Food Bank. He was involved in every aspect of Kiwanis life as a friend, colleague and mentor, and his positive energy will be greatly missed. His inimitable humour and ready smile will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our deep appreciation goes to Dr. Louise Coulombe, the At-Home Hospice team and members of CCAC for their professionalism and kind care. We are particularly grateful to Dr. John Seely, Cathie Boucher and Dr. Condon for caring for Gordon in hospital, and our thanks to Linda duRocher for ensuring Gordon's wish to come home was realized. WILLIAM (WASYL) HLADKY 1920 - 2007 Passed away suddenly on June 13, 2007, at the Royal Victoria Hospital at the age of eighty-seven. He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend. William Hladky is survived by his wife, Mary (Britton), his sons Nicholas and John and their spouses, Luba Dragan and Charlene Delcloo; and his grandchildren, Valerie and Mark. William dedicated much of his time to the Ukrainian Catholic Church and was president of the executive committee of the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary for over 30 years. He was also the founder and chairman of the Wilton-Panorama Group of companies, president of St. Joseph's Institute, served as chairman of the Desjardins Ukrainian Credit Union and was a member of the Father Jean Foundation. Visitation at on June 14 and 15 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. The panachydas will be held at 7:30 p.m. on both nights. JOHNSTON, George Nathan. Died on June 11, 2007 at the CHSLD Foyer Richmond, at the age of ninety-four. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Pike, his sons William and Melvin, and his daughter Pauline. He was predeceased by his daughter Margaret. George also leaves to mourn his grandchildren Marie (Dave), Brenda (Alain), Tanya, David and Andrea. Son of the late William Johnston and the late Violet McCaig. George is survived by his brothers Robert (the late Rheta) and Ivan (Fran, and the late Gwen), and was predeceased by his sisters Ruth (the late Gerald French) and Miriam (the late Elton Pike), and his brother Ernest (the late Irma). George also leaves to mourn, his sister-in-law Sylvia (late Ralph Pike) along with many nieces and nephews, and was pre-deceased by his sister-in-law Noreen (late Wilbur Wiggins), and brother-in-law Lorne Pike (late Patricia). Resting at the Cass Funeral Home, 295 Principale S., Richmond, (819) 826-2502 / www.casshomes.ca , where friends may visit on Thursday June 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday June 15 at 10 a.m. with the Rev.
