McALLISTER, Frances Eleanor (nee Border) - With great sadness we announce Fran's passing in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Friday, May 4th following a lengthy illness. Frances was born January 7, 1944 in Owen Sound to Al “Dude“ Border and Marion Border (nee Glenn) and always had a special place in her heart for her hometown. As a young woman, Fran was involved with Division Street United Church CGIT, competing in roller skating with the Bay City Roller Club, and attending St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. As an adult, she was a very active member and volunteer of the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada and Royal Canadian Legion and an avid competitor and organizer in darts, shuffleboard and ladies snooker leagues. Remaining to cherish Fran's memory are her husband of 42 years, Ian; daughters Louise (Andrew) and Laurie (Chris); grandchildren Preston, Kyle and Brittany Drinnan and Tyler and Nicholas Fletcher. In compliance with Fran's wishes, no formal service will be held. A private family service will be held in Owen Sound at a later date. 10661832

QUANN, Gail Frances - After a courageous and joyous life and a lengthy illness, Gail Frances Quann in her 46th year, passed away peacefully, on Monday, May 21st, 2007, surrounded by her loving family at the University Hospital, London. Gail was a cherished daughter, sister and aunt, a beloved friend and a dedicated teacher. Gail will be sadly missed by her parents, Michael and Mary Quann of Trenton, her brother Mark Quann and his wife Lee of Belleville, her sister Valerie Quann and her husband Jason Fisher of Toronto, her sister-in-law Carolyn Kay and her husband Tom Childs of Peterborough and the lights of her life, her nieces and nephews, Michael and Amanda Quann, Rayne and Ever Fisher-Quann and Sebastian Kay. She was predeceased by her brother, Shannon Quann. For 22 years, Gail was a dedicated kindergarten teacher with the York Catholic District School Board, whose members always treated her with care and compassion. She will be greatly missed by the many children, families and colleagues whose lives she touched. Gail was born on December 27th, 1961 in Gatineau, QC and was educated in Trenton at Breadner Public and Bayside Secondary Schools. She was a proud alumnus of King's College at the University of Western Ontario and earned her teaching degree at the University of Toronto. The family would like to extend deepest thanks and appreciation to the Health Care Practitioners at University Hospital, London, especially Dr. Wall, Dr. Ghent and all the nurses and staff on the Transplant Unit. BYARD, James - Mr. James Byard, born August 21st, 1918 in Truro, Nova Scotia passed away May 24th, 2007 at home in Sudbury, ON. Home at Last. Our father was born on August 21st, 1918 in Truro, Nova Scotia to Helen and Gordon Johnson. He was brother to Lloyd, William, Gordon and Stella, all predeceased. Surviving him are Curtis and Wayne. He married Harriett Colley on December 17th, 1946. He served in the Korean and Second World War and when we were very well behaved as children we were allowed to take turns holding his medals to our chest. Every day after returning home from his job at INCO, he would open his lunch box and pull out treats from his lunch that he'd saved for the younger ones. He made the best kites, taffee and wooden propeller airplanes. We marveled at how he could sharpen our pencils with his knife in two strokes. He had the largest hands we'd ever seen and he never once raised them against his children. He worked hard all his life, as did our mother to raise his twelve children Doris, Dolly, William, James, Glenda, Wayne, Theresa, Gordon, Dean, June, Joan and David. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He loved us all equally in his quiet way but the one he loved most of all was his “Mama“, his wife of 59 1/2 years. He said he wanted to be with Mama. “She's waiting for me“, he said for days, “I want to go home“. He passed away quietly in his sleep at home where he was constantly surrounded by his girls who doted on him. But we knew he missed Mama. He's now with his beloved. We hope they have the Blue Jay games in Heaven. The next time you hear thunder, it just may be Hattie and Jim, once again debating the merits of their favourite ball team. He's home at last, he's with Mama. Funeral Service in all Nation's Baptist Church, 885 Prete St., Sudbury Saturday May 26th, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Interment in the Civic Cemetery. M. Yvonne LeBlanc 58, of Dieppe with her loving family at her side passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Born in Bouctouche she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Bastarache) Cormier. Yvonne was a member of the Moncton Wesleyan Church. Sandy is survived by his loving wife Patricia; son, Travis of Memramcook; mother, Beatrice Frey of Calgary, AB; brother, Gordon (Niesje) Bates, Calgary AB; brother, Dave (Peggy) Bates, Barrhead, AB; sister, Joan Bates, Red Deer, AB; brother, Glenn (Judi) Bates, Wetaskiwin, AB; sister, Thelma (Leo) Gingras, Spruce Grove, AB; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins in Alberta and Ontario. Sandy will also be sadly missed by his many friends including Travis's Ma-mère Marie-Stella Landry, Ann Johnson Anderson and Paul Anderson, and Nicole and Ken Tower. Sandy was predeceased by his stepfather Clayton Frey in 2002. Sandy was born in Englehart ON, November 11, 1957 to Beatrice and George Bates, but moved to a farm in Thorhild Alberta when he was very young. Sandy worked in the oilfield as a swamper in Swan Hills after graduation and learned to drive truck. He made many friends in his travels and was predeceased by his fellow trucker and best friend Victor Dowhan. Sandy worked for a time hauling out of Smoky Lake Alberta and his passion at that time was his Little Red Express Dodge pickup. After moving to New Brunswick he drove for RST for 12 years pulling B-train oil tankers, until failing health forced him to an early retirement. Sandy loved to dabble in home renovations for himself and special friends. Sandy was a past Social Director of P.A.C.E. where he met his beloved Patti. He was an associate member of the Moncton Air Force Veteran's Club where he loved to play pool and where he and Pat were married in 2003. He was also a tenor in the Metrotones pop chorus. Special thanks from Sandy's family to all the staff at the Moncton Hospital. All who knew Sandy loved his wonderful sense of humor; always teasing and joking. His loving smile and warm hugs won over every heart. Sandy lived for his son Travis, and he raised him well, guiding him with respect, pride and a never-ending love. There will be a visitation Sunday evening at Fair Haven Funeral Home between 7 :00 and 9 :00 PM. The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 28th 2007 in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home. A reception for Sandy's friends and family will follow the service in the Garden View Room of the funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
