Raymond Sawyer 1949-2007 In Vancouver, BC, on Saturday February 17th, 2007 in his 57th year. Son of the late Bernard and Eloise (Leger) Sawyer. Father of Johnny, Emery, Lydia and Tracey. Grandfather of Shelby and Brandon. Brother of Ivan, Brenda, Anita, Bernice, Priscilla, Rose, Edna, Patsy, Camilla, Rose-Anne, Gerald, and Paul. There will be no funeral service. The family will assemble Friday at 2 p.m. to pay their final respects at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton. Relatives and friends are welcome. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.

Born in Kingsclear, NB, he was the son of the late Walter and Lillian (McGuire) Kitchen and the husband of Ruby (Hay) Kitchen. Survived by one son, Marvin Kitchen (Debby) of Lower St. Mary's; two daughters, Heather Flowers (Guy) of Ottawa and Catherine Flowers (Robert) of Fredericton; four grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene Lloyd and Arthur all of Kingsclear and six sisters, Grace Constance of London, ON, Velma Stafford of Fredericton, Jennie Cochrane of Prince William, Myrna Holland of Fredericton, Fay Stewart of Island View and Gloria MacKenzie of Hamilton, ON. Predeceased by his parents; one daughter, Beverley as well as one chosen son, Terry. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at the J. A. He was proud to be named a Lifetime Member at the Sudbury Curling Club. Ferdie enjoyed curling, golfing, fishing and especially spending time at his cottage, the “Mindemoya Hilton“, with his children and his grandchildren. Jeanne Forcier nee: Mathieu, of Hearst The funeral service for longtime Hearst area resident Jeanne (née Mathieu) Forcier, 94, is tentatively to be held March 31, 2007. She died Feb. 17 at the Foyer des pionniers Nursing Home, where she had resided the past nine years. Born March 31, 1912 in La Plaine, Québec, she came to Lac Thérèse in 1941 and Hearst in 1964. A member of the Club soleil des aîné-e-s seniors club, she was a sociable, jovial, ingenious, resourceful, well-organized "bonne vivante" who was renowned for her phenomenal memory. She enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening, bingo and crossword puzzles. Predeceased by her husband Clément Forcier in 1980, as well as five sisters and four brothers, she leaves her daughter Claire (Réal Plourde) Forcier and son Jean-Marc (Rita Raby) Forcier, all of Hearst, a granddaughter Tina, grandsons Pascal, Marc, Julien and Michel, and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Elianne (Gilles) Villeneuve and Yvette Mathieu Bouchard, all of Ste-Thérèse, Blainville, Qué., and Thérèse Mathieu Forget of Montréal. OBITUARY HARVEY E. BEARDMORE M.D., F.R.C.S., F.A.A.P., F.A.C.S. February 4, 1921 - February 10, 2007 It is with great sadness that the family announces Harvey Beardmore's death on February 10, 2007, at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Jerome, Quebec. Predeceased by his wife, Frances and his son Ian, he leaves behind his children Richard (Marianne Bergstrom), Anne (Jim Ransehousan), Patricia (the late Ed Muldoon), Carol (Garry Lamb), Diane (Derek Lobb) and ten grandchildren: Ben (Jessie Wellington), Sarah, Simon, Kate, John, Jennifer, Heather, Gordon, Colin, Rachel and a great-grandchild Jack. Born in Windsor, Ontario, he started medical studies at McGill University in 1942. His studies were interrupted by WWII during which he proudly served as a Lieutenant and Platoon Commander with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Europe from 1943-45. Returning to Montreal in 1945 he married Frances Barnes and completed his medical degree in 1948. After six more years of specialty training, he joined the staff at the Montreal Children's Hospital in Pediatric Surgery in 1953. Over the next forty-two years he practiced his profession in Montreal and was a pioneer in the establishment of pediatric surgery as a recognized medical specialty in North America and the world. He served in the leadership of every important Pediatric Surgical organization in North America. In 1967 he was a founding member of the Canadian Association of Pediatric Surgery and served as its first president. From 1969 to 1971 he served as Chairman of the Surgical Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 1974 he was elected President of the American Pediatric Surgery Association. He served on the Pediatric Surgery Advisory Council of the American College of Surgeons, eventually serving as Chairman of the Surgical Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics. During his career he traveled to many countries to provide medical training and advice to colleagues in his field. His reputation attracted many doctors to come to Montreal to train and do research under his direction. He taught and carried out research for many years at McGill's medical school. He received numerous awards for his pioneering efforts, including the Robert E. Gross Award (1982), the William E. Ladd Award (1986) and the Distinguished Service Award (2004), the latter in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the care of infants and children. He was the only Canadian to receive these awards at the time. In 1975, the World Federation of Associations of Pediatric Surgeons was founded and Harvey was elected as its first President. Although Harvey enjoyed traveling to foreign countries, the farm in Mille Isles, Quebec was a source of great pleasure for him and his family. Upon his retirement in 1995, he continued to live there until his death. Harvey will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, his skill in the kitchen, and for being the life of a party. He was a great raconteur and shared many good times at various fishing and hunting lodges across North America. His favourites included his association with The Famous Grouse, Turtle Lake, Algonquin Park and Green Lake. He was never happier than when he was home in the Laurentian Mountains. We will all miss him. Our heartfelt thanks to Nicolem, Kevin and Linda for their special care to the end. A private family cremation was held on February 12, 2007. A celebration of his life, memorial service and burial in Mille Isles will follow. LOUGHERY, MARY AILEEN WARNEFORD - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Loughery who was called to Heaven on Thursday, February 15th, 2007, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Mary was born February 5th, 1920 in Hampton, NB. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Warneford) Fairweather of Hampton, NB. Mary is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 52 years, Ralph Loughery and her loving and only son, Hal, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by sisters, Edith (Fairweather) Ibbotson, Saint John and Kathryn (Fairweather) Harriott, Rothesay; as well as, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia (Fairweather) Myers. Mary was a graduate of The New Brunswick Teachers College in Fredericton and taught in Saint John and New Denmark. She also operated her own kindergarten. She touched the lives of many children, all of whom loved her dearly. She was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Rothesay, the ACW at St. Paul's Anglican Church and was a life long member of the Fairvale Outing Association. Mary was a talented artist capturing the beauty of nature on her canvas. She took pride in sewing beautiful quilts, often from her own designs, for family, The Canadian Red Cross and other charities. Mary was an avid gardener and held an annual flower and plant sale, donating the proceeds to charity. Mary was blessed with a special gift to touch everyone that she met with her kindness, whether it was a family member, friend, stranger in need or an animal that needed a home or nursing back to health. She loved to spend time at her summer camp, walking in the woods, admiring the wild flowers and listening to the songs of the birds. Mary had a special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her. BINDER-BASSETT, DR. DOROTHY Dr. Dorothy Binder-Bassett passed away suddenly at her residence in Waterford with her husband at her side on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the age of 54. Cherished and always loved wife of Greg Bassett. A loving and supportive mother to Barbara. Deeply loved daughter of Erika and the late Josef Binder. Close sister and friend of Susi (Edward) Derrah. Much loved aunt of Mark and Dana. Loved sister-in-law of Mark (Marty) Bassett, and their children Kevin, Keith and Ken. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by many family, friends, patients and her respected associates for over 17 years at Dr. Janushewski Dental Practice in Simcoe. Dorothy was a graduate of McGill University Dental School in 1978 and was the first dentist in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. ZIGANTE, ZORKO(1936 - 2007) - Mr. Zorko Zigante of South Esk., passed away on Tuesday February 13, 2007 at the Miramichi Hospital at the age of 71. Born in Italy, he was the son of the late Victore and Antoinia (Cerneka) Zigante. He was a millwright and attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Miramichi. He is survived by two daughters Nina Zigante (Greg Stewart) of South Esk., and Denise Michelle (Claude Connors) of Waasis N.B.; one brother Sylvanio (Anita) of Italy; two grandchildren Alexandra and Francesca and several nieces and nephews. Zorko was predeceased by two brothers Ivan and Bruno. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday February 17, 2007 at 11 am at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank with Father Dan Melanson officiating. YOUNG, JAMES R. - The death of James R. Young of Raspberry Lane, Big Cove, Queens Co. occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 15, 2007. Jim was born in Saint John, a son of the late John and Shawn (Martin) Young, and had been employed in the woodroom at Irving Paper until his retirement. He is survived by two daughters, Kellie Bent (Fred) of Calgary, and Pam Hogan (Jonathan) of Tignish, P.E.I.; one brother, Douglas J. Young (Dian-Leigh) of Rothesay; two sisters, Joan Haggerty (Joe) of Saint John, and Nancy Burke (Garnett) of Ottawa; six grand- children; and several nieces and nephews. HENRY, THELMA ELIZABETH - Thelma E. Henry of Magaguadavic, wife of the late George F. Henry, passed away February 15, 2007 at the Harvey Community Hospital. Thelma was born at Harvey Station in 1920, a daughter of the late Robert and Isabel (Rutherford) Coburn. She was a member of the Anglican Church Women, All Saints Anglican Church, Magaguadavic and served as church organist for several years. Thelma is survived by a daughter Irene McAllister (Reg), Tracy; two sons, Duane Henry (Betty), Rothesay and Philip Henry (Annette), Magaguadavic; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Gordon Coburn (Carolyn), Fredericton; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Henry and Della Coburn, both of Harvey Station; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Cecil and Milford Coburn. BEDDOW, JOSEPH 1937-2007-The death of Joseph Beddow, husband of the late Ruth (Smith) Beddow of Stevenson Tower, occurred on Wednesday, February 14th, 2007. Born in Sydney Mines, NS on October 19th, 1937 a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Doris (Snow) Beddow. He worked at various jobs including Coca-Cola Ltd. Operated Beddow's Country Store, Public Landing, and operated a janitorial service. Joseph is survived by one son, Rickey; brothers, Harry, Liam, Jack and Adrain; sister, Marilyn; stepchildren, Ken, Vance and Francis, Glenna and Carol; special nephew, Jackie; caregiver, Darenda; grandchildren; great grandchildren; cousins; nieces and nephews. ATKINS, R. JACK - After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Jack Atkins of Saint John and formerly of Morna, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Born April 7, 1916, on Chesley St., he was the son of the late Harry and Viola (Kierstead) Atkins. Jack lived his entire life in the Saint John area. He was well loved and respected by all who knew him. Jack was the past president of Jack Atkins Ltd. General Contractor. He was a master carpenter and enjoyed woodworking, reading, current events, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Osborne)(Hunter) Atkins; son, William (Bonnie) Atkins of Welsford; daughter, Sandra (Michael) Clark of Morna; grandsons, Robert (Lisa) Clark of Ottawa and Brian (Monique) Atkins of Grand Bay-Westfield; granddaughters, Catherine (Grant) Fawcett of Grand Bay-Westfield and Hayley Atkins of Oromocto; great grandsons, Jack and Ethan Fawcett and great granddaughter, Sarah Atkins. Jack is also survived by his sister, Beatrice (William) Maxwell of Morna; special niece, Anne (Neil) Lutes; special friend, Marianne (Robert) Davidson; step-daughters, Dawn (Gordon) Baxter and Barbara Hunter; step-son, Robert (Gen) Hunter; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Fred Melanson AMHERST, NS - Fred Melanson, age 89, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the All Saints Hospital in Springhill. Born in River Hebert he was a son of the late William and Jane (Brine) Melanson. Fred was an accomplished gardener, well known for his beautiful property, and enjoyed inventing practical solutions to everyday challenges. He contributed greatly to the restoration of the St. Dennis Church, Minudie. He will be sadly missed by three sons, Warren (Anne Matheson), Halifax, Arnold (Eleanor), Truro, and Gerald (Patricia Robertson), Halifax; four grandchildren, Andrea, Nadine, Sarah and Joseph; one great grandson, Nicholas; sisters, Mary, Anne, and Stella; Brothers, Leon and Allen. He was predeceased by his wife Irene Melanson less than three months ago, great granddaughter Jenica Saulnier, and brothers Ralph and Bob. Yvon J. Richard 1926 - 2007 RICHIBUCTO, NB - Yvon J. Richard, 81, husband of Alice (Mundle) Richard, of Richibucto, passed away at the Stella Maris Hospital, Ste. Anne de Kent, on Wednesday, February 14th, 2007. Born in East Galloway NB, he was the son of the late Isidore Richard and the late Catherine (Richard) Richard. Yvon was a member of the Richibucto Lion's Club and he was the last Active Charter Member of the Club. Yvon was a trucker, mechanic, service station operator and owner of Richard's Sales and Service, Richibucto. He sold his business and retired in 1990. He was an enthusiastic hunter, fisherman and card player. Salmon River, lakes north of Miramichi and card playing at the Lion's Den were favorite haunts. He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Sharon Skinner (Brad) of Amherst, NS; son, Jim of Moncton; grandsons, Corey, Tyler and Andrew Skinner of Amherst, NS; sisters, Roselyn Weagle, Rita Arsenault, Jeanne Pitre of Waltham, Mass, and May Melanson of Lowell, Mass; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Yvon was predeceased by one sister, Lucy Dupuis; and two brothers, Edgar and José. Farewell to a husband of 54 years, father, loving grandfather and friend.
