LAING, William Wallace (Bill) 1936-2007. Our braveheart left us peacefully on February 4, with his loving partner Beverly Maynard by his side. Our heartfelt thanks to Bev. who was with dad every day, and when we could not be. Predeceased by his first wife Harley F. Titus and his second wife Cherlyl MacDonald, will be sadly missed by his children Kellie (Normand), Mandy, William (Whip Jr.), Andrew, Amy (Serge), grandchildren Graeme, Daniel, Sam, Lilah, Jade and baby Brianna. RUFFO, Aurelia. Sadly, she died in St. Mary's Hospital, February 5 at the age of ninety-five. Predeceased by her husband Paolo, beloved mother of the late Angelo (Milda), late John (Margaret) and Robert (Ann), she also leaves to mourn her sister Pauline, her six grandchildren Monica, Robert, Andrea, Kenneth, Christina, Paul and nine great-grandchildren. She will be much missed by her dear friend Romano Cortopassi and many nieces and nephews. CARRUTHERS, Peter Ross 1932 - 2007 At Credit Valley Hospital on February 3, 2007 of cancer. Beloved husband of Jill Wallace for 48 years. Survived by his three sons, John, David and Stuart, one daughter, Anne, daughters-in-law Susan and Jacqueline, grandson William and granddaughters Martha, Caroline, and Sarah, sister Jane and brother-in-law Martin. Peter spent his career in Health Care Administration. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario School of Business in 1957. In 1959, he graduated from the University of Toronto in Hospital Administration. Following appointments in Winnipeg and Kingston, he served as the CEO of the Greater Niagara General Hospital from 1966 - 1978 and Ottawa Civic Hospital from 1978 - 1993. He later served as the CEO of St. Peter's Hospital in Hamilton. From 1993 to 2002, he was a health care consultant. In addition to his contributions to Canadian health care, he was also a consultant to the health ministries of Great Britain, Australia, and China. He was President of the Ontario Hospital Association from 1982 - 1984 and President of the Canadian Hospital Association from 1986 - 1988. The family wishes to thank Dr. R. Sauls and the the Palliative Care Nursing Team at Credit Valley Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation. No visitation. READ, Susan (Vodensky) Passed away peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre in Ottawa, after a long battle with cancer, on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, in her 80th year. Predeceased by her parents Martin Vodensky and Suzana Belan. Beloved wife of the late Douglas Singleton Read (1969). Cherished mother of Linda (Alan Zisman) of Vancouver, BC, Gordon (Faye) of Stittsville, and Kenneth (Sherry) of Smiths Falls. Grandma Sue to Kate, Joey, Samantha, Christopher, and Jennifer. She will be sadly missed by her sister Helen (Walter Brunelle) of Calgary, AB, brother-in-law George (June) of Port Perry, ON, and many nieces and nephews. Susan lived most of her life in Whitby, ON where she raised her family, worked for the Town of Whitby, and after retirement, volunteered for many years at the Senior Citizens Centre. She will be fondly remembered for her devotion and generosity towards her family and friends, for her love of travelling to many corners of the earth, and for her creative talents. Sincere thanks are extended to the staff of the Palliative Program at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre for their excellent care and support, and to the staff of Stonehaven Manor, Kanata. In accordance to Susan's wishes, there will be no visitation. She will be cremated and a private interment will take place at a later date. RUCH, John Edwin June 1, 1929 - February 4, 2007 John's unique journey through life came to a pain-free end at the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital where, for more than a year, he had received exceptional care from the staff in the ICU and on Ward 5NW. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sherry (nee Elizabeth Sheridan), his daughter Carol Fox, Kamloops, B.C., grandchildren Jessica and Nicholas of Vancouver, his sister Nola (Cameron) Wilson of Niagara Falls, Ontario, brother-in-law Wilson (Mary Lou) Sheridan of Richmond, Virginia as well as nieces and nephews as far away as Australia. John graduated from University of Toronto and obtained a Post Graduate diploma in Art History at the Courtauld Institute, London University, England. John played an active role in the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada where he was named Honorary Vice President. He was chairman of 2 Bicentennial Projects, one for the Montreal Branch and one for the Ottawa Branch. He was also active in the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada where he was Master of the Roll for many years, was an Honorary Fellow 1989 and Fellow 1998. He was Editor of Newsletters for the Ottawa Branches of these 2 organizations. He was recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, 2002. He contributed many scholarly researched articles to numerous international genealogical, heraldic and art historical journals. STONEHAM, Kathleen Mary (nee Westlake) Kathleen (Kate) passed away peacefully on February 6, 2007 at the Hospice at May Court, surrounded by her family. Born in Devon, England on September 3, 1914, she was the cherished war-bride of the late William George (Stonie) Stoneham. Arrived in Canada on the Queen Mary at Pier 21 on August 12, 1946 with two young children in tow to start a new life. Dear mother of Ron (Jo-Ann Girouard), Peter (Beverley Weatherdon) and Brenda (Carl Stewart). Predeceased by her siblings in England - Joan, Sally, Edith and Billy. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeff, Allison, Stephanie, Devon, Susannah and Ian, as well as her great-grandchildren Brandon, Alex, Braiden and Jaime. She will also be missed by her many friends at Rideau Gardens Retirement Home. Kate was a dedicated volunteer at the Royal Ottawa Hospital Auxiliary for 23 years. Heartfelt thanks to the marvelous staff and volunteers at the Hospice at May Court for filling her final weeks with compassion, dignity and love. BROWN, IVY CHRISTINA (CLARK) - Surrounded by her loving family, Ivy C. Brown, R.N. of Saint John, NB, wife of the late M. Francis Brown, passed away on February 5, 2007, two weeks before her 93rd birthday, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 19, 1914 in Tatamagouche, NS, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary A. (Cunningham) Clark. Ivy was a graduate of the Saint John General, Class of 1936 and worked as a nurse at the DVA Hospital and the Saint John General Hospital until her retirement. She enjoyed knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, bridge and her circle of friends and family. Survived by one son, Robert (Virginia) of Saint John; three daughters: Ruth Patterson (Terry Dwyer) of Saint John, Anne Bruce (Bill) of Whitehorse,YT and Nancy (Arthur) Logue of Saint John; four grandchildren: Christine von Richter, Joe McIntyre (Tracy), Laura Bruce and Oliver Logue; three great grand- daughters: Madelaine and Olivia McIntyre and Cheyanne Arseneau; several nieces and nephews. DALTON, LAWRENCE "LARRY" - Lawrence "Larry" Dalton passed away after a short illness in Saint John, February 5, 2007. He was born February 12, 1914 and was the son of the late Dr. James and Kathleen Dalton. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Nellie (nee Banks) of the Carleton Kirk Seniors' Complex; children James (Darlene) of Kanata, ON, Marilyn (Bob) Whittaker of Saint John and Heather (Wayne) Bauer of Tecumseh, ON; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special niece Laura Hamilton and several nieces and nephews. Larry was employed at CPR for 45 years, retiring in 1975 as a yardmaster / coordinator. After retirement, he studied a course at Modern Business College and worked for H & R Block for several years. JOHNSON, CARL KENNETH JOSEPH Carl Johnson of Geary, NB, age 76 passed away suddenly on February 5th, 2007. Born in Timmins, Ontario, he was the son of the late William and Pearl (Faughnan) Johnson. Carl served in the Canadian Armed Forces for almost 30 years. He served with the 48 Highlanders in Germany in 1951, the 1st Battalion Black Watch in Germany from 1959-1962, and Cyprus in 1967. Following his retirement in 1980 from the Royal Canadian Regiment as a Warrant Officer CD, he worked with the Corps of Commissionaires at CFB Gagetown for over 15 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93, and of the Black Watch Association. Carl loved hunting, fishing and spending time with grand and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Bertha (States), their children, son Micheal (Cheryl) Johnson of Geary, NB; daughter, Cathy (Gary) Nielsen of Brockville, Ont.; daughter, Sandy (Gilbert) Crouse of Geary, NB, and son Andy (Debbie) Johnson of Oromocto, NB, six grandchildren, Sean (Sandra), Ben, Kristina, Amanda (Mike), Colin (Shannon), and Kayla; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Emily and several nieces and nephews (Debbie Hall). There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will take place at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto, on Friday, February 9th, 2007 at 2:00 PM, including a Black Watch Tribute. McCLUSKEY - Kimberley Ann (Guimond) McCluskey passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2007, with her family close by. Kim was born in Saint John, on October, 30, 1965, a daughter of the late William Prosper Guimond and survived by her mother, Elizabeth Regina (Comeau) Guimond of Brown's Flat. Kimberly had a short life where everyone who got to know her soon felt and grew to love her outgoing spirit and the warmth of her love. Kim will be missed by her family and friends but will always be in their thoughts and hearts. Sister Nickie, Glena and the Staff at the Regional Hospital (4CN), because of her illness over the years became her extended family. She was predeceased by her brother, Boydie, and three of his children, Boydie Jr., Tommy, and Elizabeth. DENTON, DONALD EARLE - (89) of North Head Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital Tuesday, February 6th, 2007. Born in Grand Manan Island he was the son of the late Merrill and Lotti (Laffoley) Denton. Don served in the Merchant Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Later he returned to Grand Manan and worked as a carpenter and fisherman. He enjoyed working for 26 years as a lighthouse keeper for the Canadian Coast Guard on light stations on Gannet Rock and Machias Seal Island closing out his working career until his retirement. He is survived by his two daughters, Arlene Boroska of Flemington, New Jersey, USA, Patricia Hatt (MacKenzie) of North Head, NB; one sister, Jeanette Lewell (Gordon) of Hampton, NB; three brothers, Merrill of NS; Gerald of ON; and Gordon of Mexico; his grandchildren, Jay, Lori, Kathy, Vickie; and seven great grandchildren, Chelsey, Regan, Logan, Maranda, Ryan, Chelsea, and Katlyn. He was predeceased by his wife, Isabel in 2003; one granddaughter, Penny; and three brothers, Robert, Burnett, and Herman. HENDERSON, GARY WALLACE It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden, unexpected passing of Gary W. Henderson, on Tuesday, February 6th, at his home in New Maryland. Born on June 3rd, 1956, in Cambellton, NB, he was the son of Marjorie Trites and the late Wallace Henderson. He was a graduate of the Saint John Community College, and was employed as an engineering technician with the University of New Brunswick upon moving to Fredericton in 1978. For the last ten years he had been working as a laboratory technologist with the Climate Change research group at Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service. Gary was a beloved husband of 27 years to Cindy (nee Gaudett, formerly of Black's Harbour) and beloved father to Ian. He was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman with a close - knit group of friends who shared his passion for the outdoors. He was also an enthusiastic card player, and spent many enjoyable evenings at East Long Lake and French Lake with his regular cards partners. Gary also had a passion for travel, and he and his family enjoyed many trips to theme parks, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Mexico. We thank God for the many memories we have of these happy times. Gary was always there to help a friend or neighbour in need, and will be sadly missed by his community and co-workers. He was also a member of the United Church in New Maryland. He is survived by wife, Cindy and son, Ian at home, mother, Marjorie Trites and brother, Ron Henderson of Campbellton, brother, John Henderson of Miramichi, and brother, David Henderson (Lori) of Dalhousie, JCT, and niece, Hanna Grace; several aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Wallace; sister, Ann, and infant sister, Janet. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8th, 2007 from 7-9 pm and Friday, February 9th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Robert Brewster 1935-2007 SACKVILLE, NB - Robert Brewster, 72, of the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, N.B., passed away peacefully on February 6, 2007 at the nursing home of which he has resided for the past 12 years. The staff took such great care of him and he so appreciated those who looked after him so graciously. Robert was born in Harvey, Albert County, N.B. on January 2, 1935, the son of the late John Brewster and Helen (Himmelman). He worked as a casual labourer, working in saw mills in and around the Albert County area. He attended the Harvey Baptist Church in his younger years and enjoyed singing in the church choir as a young adult. He was a special man. He is survived by his half-brother-in-law, Douglas Himmelman of Lunenburg, N.S; and by his one niece Jan Himmelman; and two nephews Tom Himmelman and Hans Himmelman. Edith Elizabeth Cameron SACKVILLE, NB - Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Cameron, widow of George Cameron of Drew Nursing Home, Sacville, formerly of Radio Street,Miramichi, passed away Monday morning February 5, 2007, at her late residence, at the age of 90. Born in Tabusintac, NB, she was the daughter of the late John and Anne (Vanadestine) Davidson. She was a sales lady for Tower's Jewelers in Bathurst and Anderson's Jewelers in Newcastle for many years. She was a member of St James and St John United Church and was very active in church affairs. She is survived by two sons, John (Sherrill) Cameron of Ottawa, Reuben (Carolyn) Cameron of Moncton; three sisters, Elspeth Smith of Bathurst, Katherine Jacobson of Bathurst, Ola Chamberlain (Fred) of Truro, NS; one brother, Borden (Ella) Davidson of Miramichi; four grandchildren, Michael, George, James of Ottawa and Christopher of Moncton. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Elspeth; two sisters, Ella and Margaret; two brothers, Harris and Lawrence. Eleanor Blanche Tweedie 1912-2007 KOUCHIBOUGUAC, N.B. - Eleanor Blanche Tweedie, a resident of the Rexton Lions Nursing Home, and formerly of Kouchibouguac, passed away at the Stella Maris Hospital, in St. Anne de Kent, on Monday, February 5, 2007, at the age of 94. Born in Kouchibouguac, on September 27, 1912, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Helen B. (Potter) Tweedie. She was an active and valuable member of St. James United Church, Kouchibouguac and member of the former St. Andrew Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Inez Jenkins, of Napan; one brother, Wallace Tweedie, of Villa Maris Nursing Home, St. Louis de Kent; one sister-in-law, Ethel Tweedie, of Rexton Lions Nursing Home; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six sisters, Lillian Sands, Josa Tighe, Christina Callander, Hazel Tweedie, Neta Tweedie and Louise Kay; one brother, John Tweedie. Roland Bolduc, époux de dame Georgette Laberge, demeurant rue Notre-Dame, Jonquière. Il était le fils de feu M. Toussaint Bolduc et de feu dame Armande Bouchard.
