OBITUARY LILIANNE BROOKS (Lely) (nee Laurin) Peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Montreal, on January 31, 2007, in her eighty-sixth year. She leaves to mourn her husband Hubert D. Brooks and her daughter Anne-Marie (Pamela McGillin), her siblings Magdeleine (Rene Jegou), Micheline and Yves, her nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives & friends. The family will receive condolences at Eglise de l'Annonciation, 181 rue des Anges, Oka on Monday, February 5 from 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Montreal General Hospital would be appreciated. BURCH, Ivan Daniel (Veteran of WWII The Canadian Scottish Regt.) Passed away at Charles Lemoyne Hospital on January 31. Born on June 26, 1924 in Victoria, BC, only child of Archibald and Mamie Burch. Loving husband of Michele (Lavergne) for 51 years. Ivan is greatly missed by her and their daughter Danielle (Spambanato), son Pierre, son-in-law Peter and grandson Derek. Ivan attended first year Victoria College before enrolling in the Canadian Army. He went overseas in Oct. 1944, was captured in mid-Feb. 1945 and remained a POW until liberation on April 16. Attended Khaki University of Canada in the UK, and completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of British Columbia in 1948. He rejoined the Regular Force as an officer in the RCOC and served 20 years before retiring in 1973 with the rank of Major. A memorial service will be held on Monday Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Pointe-Claire followed by internment of his ashes at the National Field of Honour. Beloved wife of the late George Driscoll and loving mother of Barbara (Harvey) Hunt. Lovingly remembered by her granddaughters Lynda Burns and Laurie (Tony) Desmarais and great-grandchildren, Sean, Colin, and Jocelyn Burns and Terry and Cody Hunt. Dearly missed by her step-daughter Gisele Theriault, grandchildren Richard (Monic), Diane (Fernand), Robert (Joseanne), and Marie-Claude (Erick), and great-grandchildren, Maxime, Michael, Marie-Pier, Mathieu, Yoan, Yannika, Jessica, Darrick, Charlie, and Maggie. OBITUARY GLENN ELLIS Glenn Ellis passed away on February 1, 2007 at the Montreal Chest Hospital, with family at his side, after a long battle with lung disease. Glenn was born April 15, 1919 in Welland, Ontario and spent his early years in Hamilton. During World War II, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as Flight Lieutenant in the Radar Section Ground stationed in Great Britain, Belgium and Germany. There he met Eleanor Jones who became his wife after they both returned from Europe, in 1946. In 1951, they moved to the Town of Mount Royal when Glenn joined the Advertising Department of the House of Seagram. In 1961, with his family, he moved to Glens Falls, New York, as Advertising Manager of the Glens Falls Insurance Company. They returned to Montreal in 1966. In 1968, Glenn established Sesame Industries Limited in St. Andre est, Quebec, a company which manufactured a unique heat sensitive tape for the packaging industry. Its success in Canada led to exporting its tapes overseas as well as opening a second manufacturing facility in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Glenn was President and CEO of Sesame Industries until the sale of the company to the H.B. Fuller Company in 1985. The business remained in St. Andre est under the name of Adilis until December 2003 when the factory was closed. Since 2004 Glenn had made his home at the Chateau Westmount where he found companionship and friends among the staff and residents. Here he returned to painting, a long-time interest, and held three vernissages of his pastel drawings and loved hosting many dear friends. He took up playing bridge Thursday afternoons and weekly art lessons. He taught us that you are never too old to try something new. During his long battle with COPD and emphysema, Glenn never lost his good humour, his optimism and positive attitude. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-eight years, Eleanor, who died in 2004. He is greatly missed by his daughters, Jacqueline of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Antoinette (Toni) of Elora, Ontario, his five grandchildren, Lynn, Brian, Amie Vaccaro, and Josh and Ben Taylor. was a loving brother to Madelyn Farrand (Ron) of Surrey, B.C., Wilma Beaton (Harry) of Calgary and Keith (Margery) of Grimsby, Ontario. While there were many people who helped Glenn later in life, his family owes a special thanks to his long-time assistant and friend Suzanne Karch, who provided devoted care and good cheer. Those who knew him bid him farewell and "HAPPY DAYS"... The world has lost a gentleman and scholar. HAMILTON, Frank Edward. Eighty-two years of Lingan Road, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in the veteran's wing of Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, he was the son of the late John and Viola (Johnson) Hamilton. Frank was a veteran of the Second World War and retired from Via Rail. Surviving are his daughters, Rosana Sayeg, Mississauga, Ont. and Barbara Duguid, Montreal; sons, Frank Hamilton and Robert Hamilton, Montreal; stepchildren, Ron Scantlebury, Sydney and Paulette Price, Memphis, Tenn.; sisters, Muriel Jennings, Montreal and Viola Petty, Detroit; brother, John Hamilton, Toronto; granddaughter, Wendy, Montreal; countless nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all of us. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Marie (Clark), sister, Elsie Hamilton and brother, Norman Hamilton. There will be no visitation. OBITUARY F/O WILLIAM ROSS BURTON WAY (August 25, 1921 - January 30, 2007) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ross on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at 7:15 p.m. He left us peacefully, after suffering from the mind-deteriorating disease known as Alzheimers, at the Residence Desjardins in St. Sauveur-des-Monts, at the age of eighty-five. VE2WY was an active amateur radio (Ham) hobbyist and he was placed at the top of the DX Honor Roll for most countries contacted by the DX Magazine using ham radio equipment. He was a good, loving Father and will be sadly missed by his cousin John Kendall, Sharon, MA., sister Gloria McKay of Yulee, FLA., brother-in-law Earle McKay of Yulee, FLA, son William Bruce Way of Morin Heights, QC., son John Robert Way of Warwick, RI., and granddaughter Amanda Sarah Way of Cranston, RI. Ross retired from Spar Aerospace Technologies after 35 years of service as a Contract Administrator. F/O Ross Way also served his country during WW II, enlisting voluntarily in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. He achieved the rank of Flight Officer and was stationed at Croft in Northern Darlington, England with th 431 Iroquois Bomber Squadron. He received recommendations and honours during battle and completed a tour of duty flying 33 bombing missions over Germany. The viewing of Ross will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex (1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont (514-279-6540). OBITUARY ORVILLE EDGAR WHITE Born September 10, 1916 Passed away on February 1, 2007 at the grand age of ninety years old. Beloved husband of Norma, to whom he has been married for the past 67 years; loving father to Boyd and Rick and father-in-law to Marilyn and Sandy; fondly remembered grandfather to Erika, Vanessa, Kimberly and David; and cherished great-grandfather to Connor, Darcy and Thatcher. Orville was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Dick just this past December. Orville pioneered industrial arts education in secondary schools in Montreal, Quebec, finishing his career as Principal of Richelieu Valley Collegiate High School in Quebec. Orville was also renowned as a master craftsman and the fine furniture he made throughout his life is an enduring legacy to his talent in this area. Retiring in 1973, he spent 34 wonderful years with Norma in Victoria, where he pursued his passion of sailing around the Cadboro and Oak Bay area. HODGINS, Cheslyn March 19, 1949 - February 1, 2007 Cheslyn passed away on February 1, 2007 at the Maison Mathieu-Froment-Savoie (MMFS) in Aylmer with her family at her side. Chechie, after a wonderful life of giving everything she had for her family, joined her father Garnet Hodgins, her mother Ruby Hodgins (nee Richardson) and her sister Bernice Hodgins. She leaves behind her cherished and devoted sister Carol Ann (Marcel Routhier) who tirelessly and bravely supported her throughout her illness and the final stages of her life. Her wisdom, wit and moral certitude helped to shape the lives of her nieces and nephews whom she cared for as her own; Barrie Hobbs (Beatrice Teske), Carla Hobbs (Vijay Mehta), Mike and Roxanne Mainville. She will also be greatly missed by her two great-nieces; Leah and Amy Mehta, and her great-nephew Sam Hobbs. MacDONALD, Lynn In hospital, on Thursday February 1, 2007, after a 2 year battle with cancer. Loving wife of Tom Savell. Loving sister of Norma and Andrew. O'CONNOR, Mary Peacefully in hospital after a courageous battle with Vascular Disease on Friday February 2nd 2007, Mary O'Connor, age 84. Beloved wife of Allen for 63 years. Cherished mother of Patrick (Sheila), Barbara Purrott (Keith), Jim, Cathy, Debbie and the late Peggy, Linda Bienia and Baby John. Grandma of Kelly, Jennifer, Vanessa, Jeff, Kris, Peggy and Roberto. Dear sister of Ann, Betty, Joy and the late Eddie and John. Fondly remembered by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Special thanks to all of the wonderful staff of the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus, especially from the B5 Unit who were of great comfort during her final weeks. PARENT, Albert Peacefully at home with his wife Annmarie at his side on January 28, 2007, at age 74. He leaves behind stepchildren Kim, Jamie and Bill Foster. Survived by siblings Helen, Jeanette, Irene, Gerry and Patsy, Linda, Richard, Guy and Susie, and predeceased by Amanda, Valentine and Jeffrey.
