HARDACRE, Kathleen - In loving memory of Kathleen Hardacre, 89 years, who passed away Friday, December 29th 2006 at Laurentian Hospital after a brief illness. Kathleen immigrated with her family from England to Canada in 1951. She lived in Willisville and moved to Lively in 1955. Kathleen was from good Yorkshire stock. She was a kind and caring woman who gave herself to hearth and home. She was the baby sitter of choice for area families over many years. Kathleen was a thoughtful and sympathetic friend and neighbour. A devout Anglican, she was a hard and cheerful worker for the Quilters, Altar Guild, and ACW at Christ Church. She sang in the church choir for many years. Devoted wife of Jack for nearly 65 years. Loving mother of Derek (wife Marlene) and Winston (wife Yvonne) Cherished Grandma to Darrel, Tammy (husband Wesley Chapleau), Kelly (husband Jeremy Laliberté), Sarah (fiancé Matthew Mallory) and Heather (husband Bob Armstrong). Great Grandma to Reanne, Alyssa, Tristan and Tyler. Dear daughter of Reginald and Elizabeth Sharp, both predeceased. Dear sister of Muriel, predeceased and Alice. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, 231 - 6th Avenue, Lively on Saturday, January 6th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium. KIRK, WILLIAM G. "BILL"- The death of William George "Bill" Kirk of Martinon, Saint John, husband of Marion (Donald) Kirk, occurred peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on October 8, 1922 in Oak Point, NB, he was the son of the late W. Henry and Sadie (Akerley) Kirk. Mr. Kirk and his wife owned and operated the IGA Grocery Store in Martinon and Kirk's Sales and Service for many years before his retirement in 1980. He was an avid hockey player and speed skater his whole life and organized the Old Timer's Hockey League (50 plus years) where he continued to play until 2004. His passion was fiddle music and enjoyed playing with many groups in Saint John. Bill was a member of the Ties and Frills Square Dance Club for 26 years and was a member of the New Brunswick Old Time Fiddlers. Bill enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, wood working, carpentry, skiing and golf. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Donna Kirk of Grand Bay-Westfield, Faye Kirk-Thorne (Claude) of Havelock and Sherry Ogden (Bradley) of Public Landing; one sister, Helen Beckett of Oak Point; sister-in-law, Verna Kirk of Saint John; four grandchildren, Jennie Ogden, Michael Ogden, Christina Ogden and Alexander Kirk, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Ronald Kirk. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. McADAM, John Richard Guy (Ottawa, Ontario) In Vineland on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, age 78 years at the home of his daughter. Beloved husband of Pat deceased, Oct. 4, 2000. Loving father of Bill (Stephanie) Naperville, Illinois, USA; Kathy (George) Vineland, Ontario; Scott, deceased, Sept. 24, 2001 (Grace), Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, Paul, Indonesia; and Bob, Toronto. Dad always inspired his children to do their best. Loving Grandpa of Matthew and Garth McAdam, Jesse and Kate Thompson and Christina and Danielle McAdam. A chemical engineer by profession, John spent over 20 years with Cyanamid of Canada and the latter part of his career making a difference in the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce of the Federal Government in Ottawa. John was an avid duplicate bridge player and passionate advocate for the game. He will be sadly missed and remembered with inspiration and love by family and friends in Ottawa, Niagara, Florida and Maui and elsewhere for his determined spirit, optimism and desire to help others. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street in Ottawa on Friday, Jan. 5 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cremation has taken place. MITCHELL, Selina Doreen March 29, 1917 to December 29, 2006 Died peacefully at the Perth Hospital with family and friends by her side. Born and raised in Hamilton to Walter and Florence Barnes, she married a big band drummer, Earl Grant (Bus) Mitchell in Ottawa on January 1st, 1937. She travelled with him in their trailer, for over 10 years, and then, with him established and managed Holiday Haven, on the shores of Lake Chemong in Bridgenorth, outside of Peterborough. After closing Holiday Haven, she worked for 16 years in the Central Supply Department of the Peterborough Memorial Hospital, until her retirement. Moving to Perth in 1981, she often assisted her daughter, Wendy in the running of her business, Shadowfax, and also took great joy in her only grandson, Nigel Wallace. Her sense of humour and indomitable spirit will be fondly remembered by her daughter Wendy Laut and her spouse Don Hanam, her grandson Nigel, his father David, nephews, Ted and Davie Adlem, and their families, niece, and nephew Jim and Sharon Barnes, as well as the many good friends, young and old she made over the years, especially her dearest friend, Eileen Findlay from Peterborough. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bus, her sister Mabel, and her brother-in-law David Adlem, as well as her brother Doug. Many thanks to the doctors at the Perth Hospital, especially Dr. Paul Turner, her long time physician as well as the earth-bound angels, the nursing and support staff at the hospital who provided such compassionate and exemplary care. Brian Downey's Big Band will play a dance in her honour, 8:30 p.m. Friday January 5th at the Perth Legion. Donations to either the Perth site of the Perth & Smiths Falls and District Hospital, or Friends of Stewart Park Festival would be gratefully received in her memory. PURDY, JOHN WINSTON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John Winston Purdy. John died peacefully on Thursday, December 28th, 2006, at his daughter Anna's home in Calgary, surrounded by those who loved him dearly. He will be remembered with joy for his magnificent mind, his love of beauty and his passion for life. John, a West Side boy, was raised and completed high school in St. John N.B. He studied physics at the University of New Brunswick, where he received a Bachelor of Science with honours. He went on to the University of Toronto, where he obtained both a Masters degree and a PhD in geophysics. It was in Toronto that he met his great love, Carolyn. Together they embarked on a life of adventure. John and Carolyn began their life together in Berne, Switzerland where they had their two daughters, Sarah and Anna. They moved on to England where John was a professor of geophysics at the University of Liverpool. John found his true calling upon returning to Canada to study medicine at Dalhousie University. Known as "the refugee" from the geriatrics ward, he was greatly admired and respected by all of his colleagues. He had a thriving family practice in Fredericton, N.B. He subsequently specialized in ophthalmology in Fredericton for 20 years, developing a practice of devoted patients for whom he cared greatly. His patients were grateful for his competent gentle manner. John served his community as a member of the York-Sunbury-Queens Medical Society, the New Brunswick Medical Association, and numerous government committees. John had many passions through his life. He used his beautiful, inquisitive mind to explore the mysteries of nature, the joy of music, and the wonders of science. John was predeceased by his parents, George and Ethel Purdy; his brother, Judson Purdy; and his daughter ,Sarah. He leaves his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Anna; son-in- law, Peter; grandchildren, John Winston and Keziah; and nephew, Sean. They will always miss him, love him and honour his memory as a man who loved deeply, selflessly and wholly. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5th, 2007 at Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton, at 2:00 pm with The Very Rev. Keith Joyce officiating. KELLY, James Judson (Jamie) Suddenly, as a result of a car accident, December 27, 2006 in Avola, British Columbia. He was 37 years old. Jamie is survived by his wife and best friend, Stephanie Chow, parents Floyd and Patricia Kelly of Nine Mile Creek, Prince Edward Island and siblings Laura Lee (Brian Mandziak) of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Kris (Dayna) of Ottawa, Ontario and Colleen (Chris Cullum) of Bedford, Nova Scotia. He will be fondly remembered as "favourite uncle" to his Godson Shane, Patrick and Aidan Kelly; Maggie Mandziak; Jessie and Grace Cullum. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Jamie is predeceased by his grandparents Judson and Miriam Kelly of Alma, New Brunswick and James and Mary Dowling of Cumberland, Prince Edward Island. Jamie was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on March 20, 1969. He moved with his family to Ottawa, Ontario in 1977 where he graduated from Commerce High School in 1987. He studied animation at Sheraton College in Toronto and Algonquin College in Ottawa. Jamie met Stephanie in Ottawa in 1998 and they married in 2000. Jamie was employed at the Sheraton Wall Center in Vancouver. Athletic and a free-spirit, Jamie was a disc sports enthusiast whose fire and passion for life touched communities in Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary. He wore #42 proudly representing Canada at the World Ultimate Championships in Finland in 2004. Bright and hard working, Jamie did everything with a creative flair and big grin on his face. He had a knack for making people feel comfortable and he had found a role coaching Ultimate and mentoring at work. He was known for his razor-sharp wit, practical joking and goofy sense of humour and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. NEVES, NORMA M.- The death of Norma M. (Bosco) Neves of Clifton Royal, Kings Co., NB, wife of the late George Neves, occurred on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at her residence. Born in Saint John on June 29, 1943, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Cook) Bosco. Norma enjoyed playing cards, crib and yahtzee. She is survived by three brothers; Roy Bosco (Margaret) of Titusville, James Bosco (Jackie) of Saint John and Raymond Bosco (June) of Calgary, AB; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary, Lois, Evelyn and Patsy. By request there will be no visiting. Memorial service will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 1:00 PM. DEVEAU, WILLIAM (BILL) EDWARD - Unexpectedly at Utopia, NB on December 29, 2006, Mr. William (Bill) Edward Deveau formerly of Pennfield, NB. Born in Blacks Harbour, NB on July 6th, 1967, he was the son of Norman and Marie (MacVicar) Deveau of Blacks Harbour. Bill was a proud father of daughters; Jessica Deveau of Blacks Harbour, Katlyn Deveau; and son, Jeremy Deveau of Beaver Harbour, NB. Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Denise Boyle (Larry Johnston) of St. Andrews, NB and Norma (Richard) Stieh of Beaver Harbour; maternal grandmother, Dean Girard of Pennfield; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Bill loved carpentry work, and was a good friend to many and will be missed but forever remembered for his helpful hand, and his contagious smile and laugh. Family will receive friends at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage St., St. George, NB on Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. A service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm from the Calvary Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating. FANJOY, CONNIE CHARLENE 1970 - 2006 - Connie C. Fanjoy, of Moncton, NB and formerly of Sussex, NB passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Monday December 31, 2006 at the age of 37 years. Born in Saint John, NB on September 12, 1970 she was the daughter of Raymond and Nina (Dalling) Fanjoy of Chamber Settlement, NB. Besides her parents she was survived by her common-law husband, John Clark with whom she resided. Maternal grandmother, Genevieve Dalling of Sussex; brother, Chris and his wife Loralie of Sussex; sister, Michelle Fanjoy-Schritter of Hanna, AB; two nieces, Hailey and Paige; also by several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Norman and Florence Fanjoy; and her maternal grandfather, Harry Dalling. There will be no viewing, visitation or funeral service at this time.
