MERRIAM, Dorothy (nee Blyth). Passed away, in Toronto, on Friday, December 29 at the age of eighty years. Wife of the late H. J. Pat Merriam. Formerly of Montreal, Dot will be sadly missed by her six children: John (Joan McGregor), Jim (Miranda Jones), Donald (Patricia Cooke), Beth (Irvin Epstein), Rick (Elaine Lowe) and Barbara (Brian MacFarlane), twelve grandchildren and great-grandson Logan. SIM,Barbara May (nee Bowler) Born March 10th, 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba; died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, December 30th, 2006. Barbara grew up in Ottawa and lived most of her life in Ottawa and North Gower, Ontario, working for many years on the staff of Ottawa's Interval House. She moved to Guelph with her late husband, Alex, in 1985, and soon became involved in a host of community and charitable activities, from the Guelph Spring Festival and the building of the River Run Centre to Food Share and the Ignatius Farm Community. Her strong sense of social responsibility was always combined with a love of beauty, and a gift for bringing it into being. Her practicality, enthusiasm and serenity touched many lives. She will be deeply missed by her sisters Patricia, Margaret, and Mary, brothers Arthur and David, her two sons Peter and Christopher, her step-children Heather, Robert, and David, grandchildren Virgil, Rachael, Booker, Winona, Eric, Eli, and John, daughters-in-law Margaret, Carol, Joanne, and Yoko, and by so many in the community who have experienced her warmth and generousity of spirit. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 4th, 2007 at Harcourt Memorial United Church, 87 Dean Ave., Guelph, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the R. AIKEN, DANIEL MACLEAN The death of Daniel Aiken of Oromocto, NB peacefully occurred on Sunday, December 31st, 2006 surrounded by his family. Born in Stanchel PEI on December 10, 1927, son of the late Alexander Aiken and Phoebe Todd. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Muriel (Peardon); children, Sharon (Tim) Grant of Edmonton, Cathy (Wendel) Covey of St. Stephen, NB, Alex (Maureen) Aiken of Oromocto and Debi (Eric) Maniloff of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren, James and Rebecca Grant, Ian and Alistair Covey, Jeremy and Nicholas Aiken and Juliet and Isaac Maniloff; sisters, Catherine Buell of Charlottetown, PEI and Ann Wilson of London, Ontario and several nieces and nephews and predeceased by sister, Violet Newell and brother, Robert Aiken. Daniel retired from the Canadian Military in 1978 he then became the Chief X-Ray Technician at the Oromocto Public Hospital and retired from there in 1993. ANDREWS, Dana Ron - In loving memory of Dana Ron Andrews, 30 years. It is with extreme sorrow we announce the passing of our precious son at his residence in Waterloo, December 25th, 2006. Dana grew up in Lively and he attended Lively District Secondary School. He went on to obtain his B.A. at Sir Wilfred Laurier University, Waterloo. He played hockey throughout his childhood as a goalie on various NOHA teams. Dana brought sunshine & love to all who knew him. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing but he was happiest when composing, and performing music with his singing and playing guitar. Dana was an adjudicator at the WSIB in Kitchener for the past several years. Beloved son of William “Bill“ and Donna (Sandberg) Andrews of Lively. Much loved brother to Bill (wife Brenda) of Edmonton, Albt. Cherished grandson of Minnie Andrews of Lively (husband Orest predeceased). Bill and Reta Sandberg predeceased. BELYEA, JOYCE ARDATH Passed away at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital on December 23, 2006. Born in Fredericton, November 2, 1926, she was the daughter of John Allen Belyea and Bessie Alberta Harrison. From 1945 to 1951 she worked as a secretary for the Highway Division of the New Brunswick Department of Public Works; then from 1951 to 1986 she was Secretary to the Comptroller at the University of New Brunswick. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Wees (Ian) of Ottawa; a nephew, Eric M. Wees (Yvonne), also of Ottawa; and many friends. Special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit of the DEC Hospital. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel. Rev. Paul Ross officiating. BURNETT, RONALD J. The passing of Ronald (Ron) James Burnett of Fredericton, beloved husband of Margaret (Camber) Burnett, occurred unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 31, 2006. He was 74. Born July 29, 1932 at Kingsclear, NB, he was the son of the late Ashley James Burnett and Helen Mildred (Dunphy) Burnett. Ron attended the Island View Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement, he was a School Bus Driver for 25 years. A hard working man all his life, Ron, at one time, was employed with Elmtree Concrete as a truck driver, a Custodian at Garden Creek School and for a number of years worked at the Fish Hatchery in Kingsclear. Ron raised Arabian horses, owning and operating Silverwood Arabians. Ron is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Margaret (Camber) Burnett; his cherished daughter, Kimberley (Kim) Taylor (Frank) of Fredericton and a very special and much loved granddaughter, Riley Taylor; a brother, Neill Burnett of Fredericton; a sister, Jean Wilson (Murray) of Mactaquac; a niece, Cathy Olive (Terry) of Hanwell; and nephews, Danny Burnett of Scotch Settlement and Chad and Drew Wilson both of Fort McMurray, Alberta; as well as a grandniece and three grandnephews also survive him. Predeceased by his parents and a dear sister-in-law, Olive Burnett. The family will receive friends at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. CALVIN, RALPH LEWIS - The death of Ralph Lewis Calvin, loving husband of Theresa Arthurs of Grand Bay-Westfield occurred on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1945 in Saint John he was the son of the late Asa Bruce and Mary Elizabeth Calvin. Ralph was a truck driver working all over Canada and the USA. Besides his loving wife Theresa he is survived by his daughter, Christine Calvin (Stephan) of Ontario; sons, Marc (Iris) and Darrell (Coreen) Iles both of Ontario; brother, Gary Calvin of Grand Bay-Westfield; sister, Linda Thomas of Ontario; two grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother, Carl, Paul and Gerald and sister Dora. By the family's request there will be no visitations. CRAWFORD, EVELYN "EVIE" Crawford, Evelyn "Evie" - Oromocto, NB passed away peacefully on December 31, 2006 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. She was born in Bear Island, NB and moved to Oromocto in 1958. She is the daughter of the late Tom & Laura Hanson. Evie was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a long-time member of the Conservative Party, President of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion and had a successful career with Canada Life Insurance Co., Area Manager for Avon and retired from the NB Liquor Corporation. She loved music and in her youth played the guitar, piano and sang with her country band. Evie was a caring mother to her sons, Monty (Myrna) Kelly, Garth Crawford of Fredericton and Robert (Carolyn) Thompson of Melville; daughters, Myrna Thompson of Toronto, Sandra Crawford of Dartmouth and grand and great grand children as well as several nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Queenie Ellegood, Myrtle Stilwell, Cecile Hanson and daughter, Gloria Evelyn Thompson. HOYT, SCOVIL S. The passing of Scovil S. Hoyt of Hoyt, NB, occurred Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was 80. Born April 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Bayard and Jennie Hoyt. Scovil was predeceased by his beloved wife, Donna on September 12, 2001. Scovil is survived by his three sons; Donald (wife Bonnie, children, Mark (Halifax), Jodi and Erin of Kanata, ON), Vern (children, Tyler, Adam and Amanda of Regina, SK and Tracey of Nova Scotia) and Brent (wife Betty) of Saint John NB, and his brother Jim (Joan) Hoyt and sister Genia (John) Boudreau of Hoyt, NB and predeceased by his brother, Elliot Hoyt in 2005. Scovil worked in several fields including as a provincial health inspector and county treasurer, and spent the last 26 years of his career in Municipal and Provincial elections and retired as the Chief Electoral Officer for New Brunswick in 1991. Scovil was invited by the United Nations as a Canadian representative for the first democratic elections in both Namibia and Cambodia. Scovil served on several boards including the White Rapids Manor, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and the Queens Sunbury West Ambulance Board. LINKERT, Richard - In loving memory of Richard Linkert, 84 years of Sudbury who passed away Sunday December 31st, 2006 at Laurentian was born in Germany and married Ruth (Henschel) in 1959 in Germany. Richard came to Sudbury in 1951 from Germany, He had been a miner at Creighton Mine having 32 years at INCO retiring in 1984. He enjoyed attending the monthly meetings of German Sr. Citizen Group at St. Peter's Church. He had a great affinity for animals and wildlife. He generously fed the birds and spent many happy hours in his backyard Gazebo feeding the chipmunks. Richard will be remembered as a devoted and loving father. Beloved husband of Ruth (Henschel) Linkert predeceased 1995. Loving father of Adrienne Lafantaisie (husband Steven) of Sudbury and the late Ricky predeceased. Born in Marion Bridge, NS, he was the son of the late Donald and Jessie (MacPherson) MacLeod. Allister was a retired labour representative, with the Canadian Labour Congress (Regional Director 1970-1987). He was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Riverview, member of the C.B.R.T and G.W. Local 230 (1948-1970) in Sydney, NS and Life Member of Queen Lodge #52 IOOF, Sydney, NS. Following his retirement, Allister spent his spare time enjoying woodworking, story telling and spending quality time with his friends and especially his family. Allister will be sadly missed by his wife of 43 years, Rose (Poirier) MacLeod; daughter, Allison MacLeod McArthur (Ross), Riverview; sons, Wally (Bev), Orangeville, ON, Albert (Nippen) (Robin), Riverview; grandchildren, Albert, Carol, Charlene; great grandchildren, Carol Anne, Shamus, Patrick; special nephews, Donald Allister MacLeod (Linda), Jimmy MacLeod (April); several other nieces and nephews. Carmeline Robichaud 1943 - 2007 Carmeline Robichaud passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Monday January 1, 2007. Born in Baie Ste Anne on December 7, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Maxime and Elise Martin. She is survived by her husband, Aldege and three daughters; Gail Doucette (Eugere), Mona Gray (Neri) and Sylvie Mazerolle (Pascal) all from Pointe-Sapin; five sisters, Della Robichaud (Maurice), Pointe-Sapin, Henriette Robichaud (Jacques) and Geraldine Robichaud (Leonard) both of St. Wilfred, Marie Therese Martin, Cecilia Martin (Yvon) both of Baie Ste. Anne, one half sister, Marceline Stevenson from Toronto; seven brothers, Ade Martin (Aline), Neguac, Yvon Martin, Moise Martin (Veronique), Luc Martin (Gratanne), Gilles Martin (Roseline) all of Baie Ste. Anne, Michel Martin (Eva) Miramichi, Willy Martin (Alice) of Baie Ste Anne; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter, Rosaline; one half sister, Ida; two sisters, Jeanne and Rita; and two brothers, Victor and Maxime. Although we are saddened by the death of our mother and will miss her dearly, we are grateful for her release from the escalating pain and disease that had come to dominate her daily life. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest until illness came on her. Carm was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and she will be truly missed by her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and you could always count on her for anything. She was always willing to lend a hand even in her last days at the hospital. She had an extraordinary sense of humor, she would still make us laugh. Mom has and will continue to be an inspiration to all of us. Many of us remain behind and will need to be strong to carry on her memory as we live our lives without her. She always said live life to the fullest and always be positive, take it one day at a time. That gave her 12 extra years of life from the day she as diagnosed to the end of her illness.
