PERKINS, Egerton Charles (Ed) 1914 - 2006 Egerton Charles (Ed) Perkins, our beloved Dad, Grandpapa and Great-Grandpa passed away on Friday, December 8, 2006 after a brief illness at the age of 92 years. Ed was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK and moved to Winnipeg, MB with his bride Lisle in 1938. He worked for MacDonald Aircraft in Winnipeg, MB, the Federal Government in Ottawa, ON under PM Louis St. Laurent, for Fleet Industries in Fort Erie, ON, York Gears and Litton Systems in Toronto, ON, CAE Aircraft and Manitoba Development Corp in Winnipeg, MB. His love of aviation led to his membership in the Western Canada Aviation Museum and The Canadian Aviation Council. Ed was active in the community and was Past-President of the St. James - Assiniboia Lions Club. Left to mourn his passing are his daughters, Judith (Dennis) Urbanski, Linda Massie and Kathryn Perkins (Mike Nasr); grandchildren, Terri, Greg, Doug, Chris (Megan) and Kate (Jay); and his great-grandchildren, Matthew, Stuart, Fiona, Jack and Evan. He is also survived by his brothers, Jack (Jacqui) and Ray (Fran); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ed has now joined his wife and sweetheart Lisle, who predeceased him in June of 2005, he was also predeceased by his son-in-law George Massie in 1988. RODRIGUEZ, Severina "Nanay" Severina Nanay Rodriguez passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on December 8, 2006 at the age of 90 years. OBITUARY HELEN RIDOUT NEILSON M.B.E (Military), Emeritus Professor of Food Science, McGill University, B. H. Sc., M. Sc., Dt.P. Passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2006. Helen was predeceased by her sister Nora Ellwood and brother Dr. Walter Neilson. Helen was the dearly loved aunt of Neil Ellwood, Anne Palfreyman, John Neilson, Patrick Neilson, William Neilson, Janet Neilson and great aunt to Kim and Hew Ellwood, Kate and Beth Ellwood, Faye, Lesley and Claire Palfreyman, David, Maggie, and Laura Neilson, Anna and Ivan Neilson, Liza, Devon, and Mary Howard. Born in Quebec City in 1914 to H.I. Neilson R. C.A. and Matilda Anne Greene, Helen received her undergraduate degree from McGill University and completed a dietetic internship at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. She served from 1942-1946 in the Royal Canadian Air Force where she was a squadron leader in charge of food services in the Eastern Air Command and she was made Member of the British Empire (military). After the war, she returned to McGill and completed a M.Sc. in Nutrition (Animal Science). In 1948-49, she was Research Assistant to Dr. F. Tisdall in the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Department of National Defence. In 1949, she was appointed Associate Professor and Director of the School of Household Science, later the School of Food Science, at McGill University. She was promoted to full Professor in 1954 and continued as Director until 1975. During that time, she served for one year (1956-57) in the Technical Assistance Program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand. In 1977, she accepted an appointment as Principal Lecturer and Chair, Life Management Department, School of Applied Science, Riverina College of Advanced Education, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia. She returned to Canada in 1978. Helen was a member of the McGill University Senate during the turbulent years from 1967 to 1970. In 1977, she received The Queen Elizabeth 25th Anniversary Jubilee Medal. In 1980, Helen was appointed Emeritus Professor of Food Science at McGill. A past President of The Canadian Dietetic Association (1961-62) and Chair of numerous committees, Helen received the Stuart Award in 1976 and in 1989 became the first Member Emeritus. In 1985, she received the Mastery for Service Award from Macdonald College, and in 1994, Helen received Le Prix Ross, le prix d'excellence pour la carriere. In retirement, Helen wrote the histories of Macdonald College and the Anglican Parish of Vaudreuil. A summer resident of Tadoussac and a member of The Alpine Club of Canada, Helen loved hiking, skiing and fishing. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at St George's Church, St Anne de Bellevue, Quebec at 11:00 a.m. Because Helen supported so many charitable organizations, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Evelyn M. Caissie Evelyn M. Caissie 66, of Moncton with her family at her side, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday, December 7, 2006. Born in St. Wilfred, she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Emillen (Desroches) Robichaud. Evelyn was a former caretaker and homemaker, she attended Holy Family Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the church choir. Evelyn enjoyed knitting, however, first and foremost was her love for her immediate family and her special grandchildren. Evelyn will be sadly missed by her husband of 45 years, Paul Caissie; her children, Jean Bourgeois (Greg), Moncton, Janice Caissie, Moncton, John Caissie (Donna), Irishtown, Eddie Caissie (Eileen), Lutes Mountain, Lynda Taylor (Paul), Notre Dame, Maurice Caissie (Nancy), Riverview, Robert Caissie (grandson); 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Frances Robichaud, Dieppe; brothers, Cyril Robichaud (Shirley), Lakeville, Thomas Robichaud, Moncton; several nieces and nephews. ROTH, Clara - It is with deep sorrow and a great sense of loss that we announce the passing of Clara, our mother and friend in Milton, Ontario on Thursday, December 7th 2006. She was born and raised Mennonite in Crosshill, Ontario. After three daughters were born, she moved to Toronto with her husband, Milton, to help with Mennonite mission work in the Jeeko area of Toronto. She worked alongside her husband at their corner grocery store and meat market in Scarborough and raised her family of four daughters helping each one to develop their skills and talents. Every Sunday, she invited guests for dinner and many times a handicapped young man and his elderly mother joined her family for dinner. She believed that Sunday School was important in the lives of young children and she especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School with her dearest friend, June Nelson. She has supported 3 World Vision children for many years. When her husband, Milton, retired, they lead bus tours for seniors. She loved to play hymns and fun songs for the seniors on her harmonica. She was predeceased by her parents and youngest brother, Daniel, who died in a tragic train crash. She is survived by her husband Milton, and her daughters, Diane (John) Macintyre (Tammie, Fiona, Connie and Glen) of Milton, Donna (Tony) Klassen, (Clarise, Nathan, Nevin, Juanita, Nadine and Vernon) of Gretna, Manitoba, Sharon (Allan) Gilbert (Colin, Wesley, Stuart) of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Sandy (Bob) Schaaf (Candice, Hayley) of Barrie, Ontario and by 13 great grandchildren. Clara's Christian faith and her absolute trust in the Lord helped her through her final years. Her husband, her daughter Diana, and her granddaughters, Tammie and Fiona, and the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead assisted at home. The compassionate nurses in the Complex Care Unit of Milton District Hospital guided her family through the final stage of her life. We would like to thank the members of Graceway Baptist Church and Dr. Kamouna of Milton for their ongoing support. BRUCE, LESLIE ELIZABETH - The family of Leslie Elizabeth Bruce is saddened by her accidental death in Fredericton on Thursday, December 7, 2006. Leslie was born on December 26, 1979 in Saint John, graduating from St. Malachy's High School (1997) with high honors and receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Allison University in 2001, with a major in Biology and a minor in Women's Studies. Leslie also received the "Flying M" award from Mount Allison, which represents leadership in both the Community and the University. Leslie was currently attending the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton) and was to graduate this spring with her Bachelor of Education degree, specializing in elementary studies. Leslie was a leader in so many of her endeavours whether it was student councils, Camp Glenburn as "Fee", or pursuing her passion for the care of the environment. Working at Lake O'Hara, British Columbia held a special place in her heart where she hiked many mountain trails. Leslie loved the outdoors and, in particular, her travels across Canada by bicycle with the Climate Change Caravan which she was instrumental in organizing. Her travels also took her to Australia, China, Britain, the Carribean, and most recently, Boston and Florida. While at Mount Allison University, Leslie was Chairperson of the Blue Green Society, a member of the press for a group of World Trade Organization protesters in Seattle, Washington, and a participant in an exchange program in Britain, learning to build straw bale homes. In addition to pursuing her scholastic endeavours, Leslie was often busy sailing, canoeing and camping along the Saint John River, predominantly at her family cottage in Glenwood. She loved Birkenstocks, music, dancing and playing the guitar. Everyone who knew Leslie admired her compassionate and adventurous spirit. Always a true friend, Leslie made a special impact on all those she knew. Devoted to her family and friends, Leslie will be deeply missed by her mother, Marilyn (Marr) Bruce; father, Michael Bruce and Anne Musgrave; brother, Andrew Bruce; maternal grandmother, Constance (Mooney) Marr; aunt, Ann Devereaux (Andy); uncle, Dr. David Marr (Judy); cousins: Alex and Martinique Devereaux and Colin, Sara, Jeffrey and Brian Marr; several great aunts, cousins and extended family. Leslie was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Ralph B. Marr and her paternal grandparents, Andrew E and Jean (Thompson) Bruce. SPARKS, JOHN (JACK) SEALY - The death of John (Jack) Sealy Sparks of East Saint John occurred on Thursday December 7th 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1919 in Saint John he was the son of the late William John and Margaret (Norman) Sparks. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Joan (Fennell) Sparks in June 2006; brothers Norman, Howie and Neil and sister Lillian. He is survived by his loving children Louis (Linda) of Halifax, Linda Garnhum (Lloyd) of Saint John, Gary (Patricia) of Clifton Royal and Karen Anne Alchorn (David) of Saint John; grandchildren Jesse Sparks, Kyle Sparks, Jacqueline Nase (Philip), Jennifer White (Fred), Heather Garnhum, Jeremy Sparks, Stephen Sparks, Justin Alchorn and Colin Alchorn; great grandchildren Emma and Brandon; sister Ruby Barry (Aubrey) of Beaver Harbour; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Jack was a Veteran of WWII serving as a Private with the Canadian Army. After returning from the war he worked for National Meat Packers where he met his wife Joan Fennell and were happily married for 57 years. He later worked as Meat Manager for Sobeys for many years, retiring in 1986. He will be missed for his funny little jokes and little songs. He will always be loved and remembered. OBITUARY JOSEPH ERNEST BOUCHARD Peacefully, after a courageous and brief battle with cancer, in his eighty-third year on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Friendship Village, in Pittsburgh, PA. Dearly beloved husband of Ruth (Miller) Bouchard, and the late Loretta (Ponzer) Bouchard, loving and devoted father of James (Diana), Gerald (Lucille), Ray (Elizabeth) and the late John Paul. Devoted step-father to Linda (Robert) Weity, Marianne (Donald) McCormick, Gary (Marianne) Peterson, and Barbara (Travis) Panthar. Caring brother of Robert (Helen) Bouchard, Rochester, NY and the late Paul Bouchard, Huntingdon, QC. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Laura, Steven, Brian, Sean, Kathryn, Daniel and Mary. Cherished and devoted step-grandfather to Heather and Nicholas. A veteran of World War II, serving with the Cannon Company 289th Infantry Regiment, 75th Infantry Division and was part of the Ardennes Campaign, known as "The Battle of the Bulge" and The Battle of the Ruhr. Upon graduation from McGill University, he worked for US Steel in Duluth, Mn. and spent his entire working career with them, moving to Montreal and then to Port Cartier, QC, where he was Treasurer of Quebec Cartier Mining Company, then on to Westfield, NJ, and finally Pittsburgh, PA, where he retired. He loved his family, skiing, golf and the outdoors, and passed this love onto his children and grandchildren. Joe was always involved in church activities especially as a Eucharistic minister and in many other ways. He was a compassionate caregiver for both Loretta and Ruth when they needed help and a good example for all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Rd., Mt. Lebanon, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Anne Church, Castle Shannon Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
