FRANKLIN, MITCHELL, O.C., LL.D., D.LITT., F.R.S.A. - In his 93rd year, after a period of failing health, died peacefully on November 23rd 2006 at his home in Bains Corner, New Brunswick. Born in Montreal, he was the only son of Joseph and Frances (Herschorn) Franklin. Educated in Halifax and Ottawa, he later served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Survived by his loving wife, Janice (Benson), and his children, Beverley and Neil, four grandchildren, Allyson, Jennifer, Daniel and Kathryn and a nephew, Franklin Babb. He was predeceased by a son, Roger, a sister, Lillian, and his former wife, "Pat" Franklin. Mr. Franklin was a man of enormous presence and influence. His humanitarian and philanthropic endeavours embraced a wide spectrum of social concerns. One of his greatest satisfactions was the establishment of the Franklin Cultural Centre on his Estate at Bains Corner. He generously provided care and comfort to thousands of people - young and old alike - at his beloved Franklin Farms. Mr. Franklin was instrumental in the establishment of the Fundy Trail which will forever remain a testament to his extraordinary strength of will, vision and selflessness. He died full of honours bestowed on him in recognition of his endless generosity, his tireless energy and his dedicated and effective service to humanity. Loving mother of Michael Dermody (Faye) of Palmerston, Patricia Dermody (Guy), Paul Dermody (Brenda), Susan Mills (Brian) and Wanda Dermody all of Sudbury and Darlene Brownlee (Ron) of Collingwood. Dear sister of Billie Gormley, Henry Gormley (Cathy), Marguerite Bernatchez (Claude), Linda Furlong (Lee). Predeceased by her brothers John, Louis and by her sister Evelyn Holstead. OBITUARY ARTHUR JAMES BUCKMASTER At the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Thursday, November 23, 2006, Art Buckmaster of Morrisburg, formerly of Ingleside and Montreal, age ninety-two. Art was born on February 24, 1914 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. In 1942 he married Lennie Freeman in Caledonia, Nova Scotia. A graduate of Lunenburg Academy and Acadia University he enjoyed canoe tripping, hiking, skiing, teaching, church, and family. He was honoured by the Chemistry Institute of Canada for his contribution to his field. Most of his working career was as a teacher at Westmount High in the Montreal area. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Lennie, his children Joanne Buckmaster, Lynn (Rick) Sala, Jim (Jan) Buckmaster, his grandchildren Reid, Heather, Dell (Mackenzie), Tait (Karen), Jay (Gigi), Nick (Vicki), and his great- granddaughter Caroline. A Memorial service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, Morrisburg, on Monday, November 27th at 11 a.m. The family will be receiving friends at the Church following the service. CUSANO, Michele (Mike) 1921 - 2006 Michele Cusano of Calgary, beloved husband of Concetta, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the age of 85 years. Michele was born on January 15, 1921, and he married Concetta Cusanelli on the 27th of September, 1956. Together they came to Canada with their daughter Maria, on July 9, 1959. Michele was youthful and active, a man of few words, but a man of action. He was an avid gardener and wine maker, taking great pride in both. As a devoted and loving father and husband, Michele took great joy in his family, and was the pillar and foundation. On September 27, 2006, Michele and Concetta joyfully celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Besides his loving wife, Concetta, Michele is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Rocco Raimondi, and Cristina and Dean Marcil; four grandchildren, Concetta and her husband Guido De Ciancio, Francesco and his wife Angelina Raimondi, and Lorenzo and Gabriella Marcil; and one great-grandchild, Alessandra De Ciancio. He is also survived by two brothers, Nicola and Luigi of Hartford, CT, and his sister Angela-Maria of Buenos Aires, Argentina. DOLAN, Lucille (nee Bedard) Peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the age of 67. Dear daughter of the late Edmond Bedard and the late Jeanne Courcelles. Loving wife of Michael Dolan. She will be sadly missed by her sons Michael, Robert and Kevin (Nathalie Perron); her grandchildren Jakob Spence and Momma to Kayla and Brandon Dolan. She will also be missed by her mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her sisters Claire (Ray Carroll) and Lise. SIMONSON, NELSON F. - The death of Nelson F. Simonson of East Saint John occurred on November 3rd 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Saint John and spent his life in the Greater Saint John area working for various companies over the years. He is survived by his companion Theresa Murphy, son Michael Simonson and his wife Heather, daughter Lisa Maynard-Reed and her husband Scott, all of Saint John, and his three grandchildren. The funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424). The Reverend Canon Alvin Westgate officiated a family graveside service on November 7th 2006 at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. WATMORE, CLARA - Peacefully, at the University Hospital on November 22nd 2006, with her family by her side. Devoted wife of George for over 62 years. Beloved mother of Janice (Rick) Aubrey, Lynne (Jon) MacCurdy, George (Jeannine), Tom (Brenda), Bill (Christine), Maureen (Tony) Lanigan, Richard (Carrie), Robert (Cathy). Sadly missed by her 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, the youngest Aurora, born the day the Clara passed, and by her nieces and nephews. Survived by her brother-in-law Alan Watmore and sister-in-law Rosalee Anderson. Predeceased by her brothers William Anderson and George Burke. Clara will be remembered for her dedication to Scouting and her career as a nurse at the Villa in New Brunswick for a number of years. A service of remembrance will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel, London, Ontario on Saturday, November 25th 2006 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. STILES, VESTA. M. (WIGGINS) - formerly of St. Stephen, died in St. Albert, AB on Nov. 16th following a brief period of failing health. She was born on Dec. 9th, 1911 in Waterborough, Queen's County, NB. She graduated from the Saint John School of Nursing in 1935. While in training she met Dr. Esmond Stiles and they married shortly after she graduated. He practised for two years in Alma before going overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. The family moved to St. Stephen after his return from the war. Vesta was very active in Girl Guides for many years, and served as Provincial Commissioner from 1966-1972. She moved to St. Albert in 1997 to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and three granddaughters. She was predeceased by her husband in 1970. She is survived by one son, Dr. Gerald (Judi) Stiles of Saint John, and one daughter, Judy (Ron) Hierlihy of St. Albert; three granddaughters, Kim (Brad) Cunningham, Cristin (Cory) De La Mare, and Jillian (John) Baldassarre, all of St. Albert, as well as five great-grandchildren Emma, Noah, Sydney, Ellie and Kate. STARKEY - Mrs. Bertha A. Starkey of Youngs Cove, passed away on Thursday, November 23rd, 2006 at the age of 81. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Ethel Haldane and the beloved wife of the late Archie Starkey who passed away in August of this year. Bertha is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Starkey (Robin Harper) of Kingston Peninsula, Jennie DeLong (Neil) of Woodstock, Noelle Drost (Randy) of Coles Island; two sons, Paul and Cathy Morgan of Dartmouth, NS, Tom and Susan Eades of Grand Bay; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas, Ryan, Crystal Goddard (David), Tina Rayner (Jason), Tammy, Rhonda (Phil) and Brooke; 11 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her four brothers, one sister. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). Visitation will be held at Wallace Funeral Home on Monday, November 27th, 2006 from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Coles Island Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 at 2:00pm. The interment will take place at Coles Island Cemetery. BÉLANGER, Jean-Claude 1937-2006 Subitement, de Richelieu, le 17 novembre 2006, à l'âge de 68 ans, est décédé M. Jean-Claude Bélanger, conjoint de Gisèle Lareau. M.
