STOCKER, RUPERT HAROLD On November 5, 2006 at Windsor Court after a short illness in his 96th year Rupert was born in England and educated at Harrow School and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1931 and served in Singapore and Hong Kong where he was ADC to the Commanding Officer. Decommissioned in 1937, he travelled to Japan and the United States before returning to England where he became the manager of a group of private hospitals. In 1939 he married Joyce (nee Heywood) and in 1940 he rejoined the British Army and served as an artillery training officer during the Second World War, retiring with the rank of Captain. In 1952 the family emigrated to Newfoundland where he was the administrator of the Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook, prior to moving to Fredericton in 1956. He was the last administrator of the Victoria Public Hospital. In 1976 he retired at the time the Chalmers Hospital opened. Rupert was active in establishing a number of organizations including the New Brunswick Hospital Association, Maritime Hospital Association, Fredericton Heritage Trust, Pine Grove Nursing Home and was a founding member of the Grove Foundation. He maintained ties with England as a life time member of the Merchant Taylors' Company and as a Freeman of the City of London. A long term member of the Fredericton Rotary Club, Rupert also served one term as City of Fredericton Councillor representing Garden Creek. He will be remembered fondly by CBC listeners for his comments on Information Morning. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce in 2000 and is survived by his son Martin (Jennifer Prest) of Calgary; daughters Jill (Karl Klarer) of Millbrook, Ontario and Dinah (Greg Legere) of Fredericton; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. JOSTROM, RUTH E. – At the SJRH on November 7th, 2006. Ruth E. Jostrom of Loch Lomond Villa, born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late John and Daisy (Penny) Jostrom. Ruth was a life long resident of Saint John and worked for M.R.E.C. and Barbours as well as the Baptist Book Store in her later years. She was an active member of the former Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and CGIT for many years and was a member of many groups at the church. Ruth always worked on crafts making gifts for others. She always made sure her nieces looked the best for Sunday school. She lived the better part of her life in the South end and had many friends. She will be sadly missed but always remembered and never forgotten. Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Predeceased by a brother, Rev. Chester Jostrom; and a sister, Angela Jones. Survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Resting at A. W. SCOTT, LENA, 1924 - 2006 - Lena Scott of Perth-Andover passed away peacefully at the Victoria Glen Manor on November 6, 2006. Born in Arthurette on May 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Soretta (Brown) Stevenson. She was the wife of the late Andrew Scott. Lena leaves behind her children, Barbara (George) Smarz of North Charleston, South Carolina, Donis (Renate) Scott of London, ON, Merle (Dianne) Scott of Canfield, ON; her sister, Ruth DeWitt of Perth-Andover; brothers, Ben (Wanda) Stevenson and Neil (Sally) Stevenson, both of Hamilton, ON; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. ELLINGWOOD, MARGARET ELIZABETH - At the Carleton Kirk Lodge, on November 6, 2006, Margaret Elizabeth Ellingwood, 92, after a lengthy illness. The widow of Ernest Merrill Ellingwood, she was born, raised, married, reared her family, worked and grew old in the North End she loved. She was employed for years as a sales clerk at F. W. Woolworth and then Reitmans in the Fairview Plaza and long after her retirement was a familiar fixture as a regular visitor to that mall. She took great pride in being a niece of Don Messer and liked nothing more than to listen to his music and to "shake a leg." Another source of great pleasure was the many summers she spent at her home away from home on her beloved Belleisle. The daughter of the late Fred and Janie (Messer) Clifford, she is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Davies, Golden Grove, and Catherine Roussell, Innisfil, Ont., one son, Ernest Merrill and his wife Catherine, Lorneville, another daughter-in-law, Loreen, Saint John, two sisters, Ruth Killam, and Vella Lee, both of Moncton, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Albert, a daughter, Barbara, two brothers, Millard and Willis, and a sister, Mildred Cole. Ross A. Bennett 1938 - 2006 LAKEVILLE, NB - Ross A. Bennett 68, of Lakeville, Westmorland County passed away on Monday November 6, 2006. Born in Advocate Harbour, NS he was the son of the late Russell and Violet (Morris) Bennett. Ross retired from the parts department at Taylor Ford & Lincoln Sales in 2003 with 37 years service. He attended Lakeville United Church and enjoyed gardening and working around his property. CANAPINI, Dina (nee Conti) - In loving memory of Dina (nee Conti) Canapini, 90 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Tuesday morning, November 7th, 2006 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Center. She was born in Fano, Italy and married Romolo Canapini in 1936 in Italy. Dina came to Canada in 1936. She was a longtime resident of Copper Cliff. She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Copper Cliff Italian Club. A devout Roman Catholic she had attended St. Stanislaus Church and she was a life member of the Parish CWL. She took pride in her home, always a welcoming and gracious host. She was an avid gardener and excellent cook. Dina was devoted to her loving family, especially her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren in whom she took great pride and interest in their activities and accomplishments. Jean touched many lives in many special ways with her kind heart and giving nature. It's impossible to list everyone by name and she would hope that everyone would know how special they were to her. She will be sadly missed by her many wonderful nieces, nephews, in- laws, friends as well as the many children she met through her work at Westmount Public School. She taught many of us the importance of love through example and our family will be forever grateful. We have been bleesed by the many ways she touched our hearts. ANDREW, Edna Evangeline (nee Carson) Peacefully at the Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew, Sunday evening, November 5th, 2006. Edna Evangeline Andrew (nee Carson) in her 100th year. Born in Augusta Township, Ontario to Ethel (nee Robinson) and George Carson, Evangeline was a woman of many talents: a voracious and eclectic reader, a stimulating conversationalist, a keen intellect and avid traveller and above all a splendid teacher. After graduating in 1930 from Victoria College, 3TO, University of Toronto, Evangeline joined the teaching profession, first in Milton, Ontario and then London as a teacher of English. Encouraged by Olive Diefenbaker to enter the new field of Guidance, she was appointed Head of the Guidance Department at Westhill Collegiate in Scarborough. One of her traits was an ability to see potential in her students. This perhaps explains why so many of them kept in close touch with her over the years. She encouraged students further by being a generous benefactor to her alma mater Victoria College and also to Queen's University. On retirement, Evangeline moved with her husband Frederic to Pinegrove, a renovated schoolhouse near Milton and then to Kingston, Ontario where she was an active member of St. James Anglican Church and of the Canadian Federation of University Women. A light has gone out for her immediate and extended family of which she was proudly the matriarch. Predeceased by her husband Frederic Andrew, her brother Arnold Carson, sisters Arlene Bennham and Edith Hales and nephew Irwin Hales. Left with rich memories are step-son Fred (and his wife Doris), nieces Marian (nee Bennham) Hoffman (Hank), Frances Bennham and nephews Edward Carson (Sylvia), Brian Hales (Berna) and Wendy Hales. Doris and Fred's children and grandchildren will miss her. CAMERON, Craig Michael At the age of 18, unexpectedly in hospital on November 4, from the sudden and devastating effects of a brain tumour. Dear son of Doug Cameron and Marian MacKay. Fondly remembered by brother Jeffrey, sister Madison, stepdad Mike MacKay and much-loved girlfriend Emily Brown. Craig attended Castlefrank and Katimavik Public Schools and graduated from Bell High School in June of this year. Craig's last months were happily spent intensely involved with his music and his band, Eppiphane. A memorial service will be held at Kanata Baptist Church, 465 Hazeldean Road, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11. A reception will follow. The senior students at Bell High School have created a memorial scholarship. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Craig Cameron Memorial Scholarship, c/o Bell High School. Our thanks to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit and the Neural Observation and Assessment unit at the Civic Hospital, who showed such skill and sensitivity during this brief and difficult period. LUSIGNAN, Arthur Eugene November 19, 1922 - November 6, 2006 Veteran, World War II Peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital, on Monday, November 6th, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by his parents Louis Arthur Lusignan and Florence Ethyle (nee Mott) and by his brother Don. Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Vivian (nee LaPierre) and by his sons Dr. Geoffrey (Ottawa) and Gerry (Killaloe). He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his grandsons Joshua and Matthew (Ottawa). Gene was a veteran of World War II, serving in England with the 427 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force. For many years, he was the owner and proprietor of Gene's Paint, Glass and Wallpaper in Pembroke. He was a former president of the Pembroke Chamber of Commerce and a past-president of the Rotary Club of Pembroke with more than 35 years of perfect attendance. Gene was very proud to receive the Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International in recognition of his great dedication to the ideals of that organization. Marjorie Crossman Marjorie Crossman, 75, wife of Arthur Crossman of Moncton passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton. Born in Cap-Pelé, she was the daughter of the late Laudiane Landry and the late Dosithé Brun of Cap-Pelé. Marjorie was a graduate of l'Hôtel Dieu de l'Assomption R. N. program, class of 1955. She worked at the Shediac Hospital and at the Villa Providence of Shediac. Marjorie will be sadly missed by her loving family, husband Arthur, her daughter Vera-Anne Petley of Montréal, son Wayne Petley and his wife Anne of Murray River, P.E.I., her sister Claudette and brother-in-law Floyd Brine of Pictou, N. S., her brother Euclide Brun and sister-in-law Eva of Grand-Barachois. She had four grandchildren: Charlotte, Michelle, Simon and Stephane. She was predeceased by her son Kevin Petley and brother Aris Brun.
