BODSON, Léo Paul - The family announces with sorrow, his sudden death in Sudbury, Thursday, August 17th, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Son of the late Arthur and of the late Florida (née Lalonde) Bodson. Beloved husband of Lucienne Bodson (née Carrière) of Val Caron. Loving father of Lucien Bodson (late Émilie) of Hanmer, Denis Bodson (Barbara) of Sudbury, Paulette Lalonde (Marcel) and Gaetan Bodson (Valerie) all of Val Caron, Daniel Bodson (Marlene) and Lilliane Kilgamon (Yvon) all of Val Thérèse, and Nicole Landry (Bernard) of Timmins. Dear brother of Noëlla Carrière (Noël) and Rita Lafleur (late Émanuel) both of Hamilton. Predeceased by his sister Jeannette Savignac (late Roland). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his 16 grandchildren, his 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Bodson was retired from Inco Ltd. Léo Paul was deeply involved in his parish and in his community during his early years. He was a former member of the school board, a former municipal counsellor for 14 years and a long time member of Notre-Dame de l'Espérance Church now known as Ste-Marguerite D'Youville Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, council 9922, Notre-Dame du Rosaire, Blezard Valley. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and all who knew him. HELLBERG, Jaakko Edvin - In loving memory of Jaakko Hellberg, 78 years, who passed away Friday August 18th, 2006 at his home. Beloved husband of Marjatta (Makynen) Hellberg of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Jesse, Jenny, Devon, Danica, Raija, Jari and one on the way. Dear son of Tuomas and Vieno Hellberg both predeceased. Dear brother of Meeri (husband Jarmo Kalliomaki) of Finland, predeceased by Annikki and Liisa. Sadly missed by family in Canada and Finland. LEBEL, Jocelyne Marie Juliette - In Meaford on Thursday August 17, 2006, in the company of her family and after her battle with cancer, Jocelyne Lebel of Meaford was reunited with her husband Raymond Lebel who passed away on July 25, 1995. Beloved mother of Paul Lebel and his wife Jennifer of Meaford and sadly missed grandmother of Tyler, Jayson and Raya. Daughter of Gerard and the late Laurette (Roy) Vachon of Meaford. MATER, Basil Francis - Passed peacefully at the Haldimand Memorial Hospital on August 17, 2006 in his 94th year. Basil was born and raised in Wainfleet, a long time resident of Port Colborne and the past five years he spent living at Grandview Lodge, Dunnville. He enjoyed bowling and card playing. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary Rice Mater (1987), his second wife Pauline Winger (2002), and his daughter Elaine (2004). Dearly beloved father of Gloria Main (Paul) of Katrine and Sheila Mater of Port Colborne. Dearly missed by his grandchildren Lisa Hatton (Mark) of Dain City, Lana Climenhaga (Michael) of Huntsville and Trevor Main (Sherry) of Bogata, Colombia. He will be greatly missed by his great-grandchildren Luke, Elisha, Seth, Lydia, Gideon, Kyle and Christina. Sadly missed by his sister Eleanor Howell (Charles) of Cheektowaga, New York. BURKE, Elva (McNeill) Passed away peacefully on August 17, aged ninety-three after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Elva was predeceased by her husband John, son Kevin, and grand-son David Roy. Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Terry (Lynn), Bonnie (Pat Roy) and Beverly. She will also be deeply missed by grandchildren: Vicki, Carolyn and Neil Burke; Christa and Shauna Burke; Jennifer Roy, as well as nine great-grandchildren especially Angelica, whose care helped Elva through many difficult times. Elva is remembered for her love of life sense of humor and devotion to family. COUGHLIN, Francis John Leonard. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear beloved grandfather, father, and true love of Deede Coughlin (nee Barry). Frank and Deede met in Winnipeg and soon moved eastward. Dorval became their home where they raised their six children. Frank was always a perfect role model for his 6 children, Lennie (Dara), Larry (Donna), Barry (Terry), Maureen (Brock), Michael (Debbie), Ann (Michael) and 17 grandchildren who were amazed by his wit, knowledge and wisdom. Frank and Deede were truly the perfect couple, loving parents, and grandparents. They enjoyed almost sixty-one years of marriage together. We will greatly and forever miss Frank but we know that he will always be busy navigating among the stars. OBITUARY LYON KHANER Lyon was born in Montreal on August 16, 1914 to Sophie and Meyer Khaner and died peacefully on July 28, 2006 in Toronto. With Val Khaner he had four children: Tim (Lidia) of Edmonton, Julie of Toronto, Jeffrey (Daniele) of New York and Jamie (Heather) of Orlando, and four grandchildren, Tristan, Tory, Maria and Jacob. As a young man Lyon worked in the small family-run grocery store Marche Populaire alongside his siblings, John and Miriam (both deceased) and Zelda. He graduated in pharmacy in 1936 and opened the Montreal drugstore Kanes, with partner Isidore Kahn. After serving in the RCAF medical branch in World War II, he operated the Kanes chain of pharmacies and established the first big box drug store in Montreal knows as Kane's Super Drug Mart. At the time of his retirement he was an owner of the Apothecary Pharmacies on the West Island. He moved to Toronto in the mid-eighties, to be closer to his family. With his charismatic nature, perpetual smile and caring for all, Lyon embodied all of the best qualities of a trusted healthcare professional. He had the most loyal group of customers one could ever ask for. Lyon was elegant, intellectual, hard working and generous -- one of those people everyone liked and wanted to be around. He was much loved in his extended family, including by his in-laws, the late Sue Khaner (wife of John) , the late Albert Marcus (husband of Miriam) and the late Irving Myers (husband of Zelda). His nieces and nephews, Steven and Myra Khaner, Richard and Willa Marcus and John and Mia Myers, will all remember him as a favourite uncle. (Chemistry) from the University of Alberta in 1946 and a Ph.D. (Biochemistry) from the University of Wisconsin in 1949, where she met her husband Bob. As well as raising her six children, Pat taught high school chemistry in Montreal and later was a Research Associate in the Department of Microbiology, Macdonald College, McGill University. More recently, Pat was an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), Kanata Chapter. CHENOWETH, David 1949 - 2006 David passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2006, due to a sudden stroke. Born in Montreal, David attended McGill University and served as an editor of the McGill Daily. He then worked as an entertainment and financial editor with the Montreal Gazette for 15 years. After stints with the Ottawa Sun and the Toronto Star David became a public affairs and communications specialist with Shell Oil, Nortel, and finally with the Department of Finance in Ottawa where he worked for the past 17 years. Son of David Chenoweth Sr. (deceased) and Clare Chenoweth. Father to Joshua and Jordan and brother to Richard, Brian, Chris and John. BALCHIN, Michael (1938-2006) On August 15, 2006, at the age of 67, at the Ottawa General Hospital, Michael lost his battle to cancer after a courageous fight. His tireless voluntary work with the Canadian Alliance of British Pensioners helped bring the organization to the brink of achieving its goal of pension indexation for half-a-million 'frozen' UK pensioners around the world - a far-reaching legacy with infinite positive impact. HADDEN, Patrick O'Brien Patrick the brave passed away at Roger's House on Thursday, August 17, 2006, surrounded by the love of his family and friends after a lengthy battle with cancer. In his eight short years, Patrick touched many people with his good humour, unbelievable determination, mischievous grin and relentless courage. Patrick will be dearly missed by his parents, David Hadden and Janet Wilson and especially twin brother, Logan. He was the loving grandson of David and Eleanor Wilson, James and Jean Hadden and great-grandson to Eleanor O'Brien of Bangor, Northern Ireland. He was the much-loved nephew to Christine Paterson (and John), Susan and Mark Conrad, Jennifer and Kevin Raffler, George and Kelly Hadden (Kyle and Kody), Jane-Lynne and Larry (Brett and Scott), Don Paterson and Michele Potts, Patricia Henshaw and Don Versage, Tim Henshaw and Michele DuMaresq, Steve and Vanessa Henshaw and Michael and Cori Deh. He was the beloved cousin of Hannah, Ben and Emerson; Griffen; Brittany and Bradley; Jessica and Harley; and special friend Colin Knox. He will be missed by his special uncles Garey Ris, Steve McConville and Ian Macmillan and special aunty Dorothy. Patrick is in the hearts of his extended family in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. I leave to join my beloved husband Nelson and our cherished son Douglas, my dearest parents John and Eveline MacLean and sister Doris Dehne. I regretfully leave my beloved children Karl (Tamworth, On), and daughter and best friend, Nancy (Russell, On), and my 2 wonderful grandsons, Scott Schroeter (Lucy) (Toronto, On), and Adam Lenning (Russell, On), and adieu to my sisters-in-law dear Shirley Schroeter (late Reg), Hilda Schroeter (late Harry), and Nora Schroeter (late Len), and all my nieces and nephews. A special farewell to my dear friend Joan Fawcett, who was always there for me - I love you! Thank you to Sheila Howe for all your assistance and friendship, and to my many friends who gathered over coffee, I enjoyed our special times together. TALLER, Pearl (nee Cohen) Has been raised peacefully into the arms of G-d with her loving family right by her side on Thursday, August 17th, 2006. Wife and best friend of the late Jack Taller for 46 years. Loving daughter of the late Bessie and Jacob Cohen. Adoring mother of her four children, David (Suzanne), Martin (Gloria), Valerie (Fred) and Lorri. Sweet Bubby of Joshua (Angelina), Jacqueline, Andrea, Shanna and Serenna, all of whom she was so proud of and loved so dearly. Dear sister of Max Cohen (Rena), the late Ann Sabran (late Izzie) and the late Sarah Cantor (late Benes). She will be remembered for her beautiful combination of wisdom, intelligence, strength, pride, love and sweetness to everyone whose lives she touched; an outstanding role model for all of us. DIXON-PARNELL (Briggs), Norma Lorraine - November 27, 1917 - August 18, 2006 - Lorraine lived with grace, and passed with dignity in her 89th year at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site, on Friday August 18th, 2006. Lorraine was a strong woman with deep religious convictions and a passion for music and horticulture. She survived the Great Fire of 1922 in Cobalt; raised her family in Timmins; and eventually traveled the world. During her years in Timmins, she was an active volunteer for her church and community. Lorraine is now reunited with many beloved family members who have passed on before her, including her parents Wilmot and Norma Briggs; brothers Stanley, Robert, Earl and Harold; her first husband Stanley Parnell; and her second husband Clifford Dixon. Lorraine outlived all of her children, which broke her heart, including Jack Parnell, Graham Parnell, Bob Parnell and infant daughter Norma-Elizabeth Parnell. Lorraine is survived by her sister Marilyn Holmes, cousin Russell Briggs, daughters-in-law Colleen Parnell and Marjorie Parnell; and lifelong friend Eileen Campbell. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom she was very close. A Memorial Service will be held for Lorraine at Trinity United Church in North Bay on Sunday August 20th at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow with a graveside service on Monday August 21st in Timmins. EVANS, Howard William - Peacefully at North Bay General Hospital on August 18th 2006 in his 63rd year. Born in New Liskeard, he is survived by his mother Kay Evans. Also surviving are his wife Sharon (Menzie), three daughters, Cindy (Juergen Marquardt), Pamela (Jean Ouellette) and Elizabeth (Mike Giesler), two sisters Elaine Evans of North Bay and Donna (Don Sauve) of Haileybury, as well as six grandchildren. Howard was an active member of the North Bay Legion (Branch 23) and was awarded a life membership for his services. He was also a willing volunteer with the Big Brothers, enjoyed raising Himalayan kittens and was an avid coin collector. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd. on Tuesday August 22nd at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
