REID, Philip Lewis Suddenly at his home in Perth on Thursday, July 27th, 2006 Philip Reid (retired teacher, Laurentian High School, Ottawa) at the age of 84 years. Philip was predeceased by his wife Ruth M. (Speirs) Reid; he was the loved father of Michael of Perth and Patricia of Carleton Place, brother of Elizabeth Smith and Stephen (Alison) Reid. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends including his feline friends Emily and Ruthy. Services are private for the family. Il était l'époux bien-aimé de feu Emilienne Rainville, le fils de feu Frank Mineault et de feu Célima Charette. Il laisse dans la peine ses 3 enfants: Huguette (Raymond Cléroux), Stéphane et Johanne (Gaétan Sicard). Il fut prédécédé par 1 fils, Alexis (Josée Léonard) et par 1 fille, Linda. Il était le grand-père adoré de 4 petits-enfants: Stéphanie, Francis, Caroline et Sophie. Il laisse sa belle-mère Germaine Bélec (feu Albert Rainville). Il fut prédécédé également par 4 frères: Roger (Dorilda Mathé), Aimé (feu Laurette Nadon), Claude (feu Jacqueline Paiement) et Aldège (Edna Maisonneuve), ainsi que par 3 soeurs: Bernadette, Yvette (feu Maurice Gagnon) et Aurore (feu Albert Larabie). Il laisse également 6 beaux-frères: Philippe (Rollande), Gaston (Colette), Donald, Yvon, Raymond et Armel; 1 belle-soeur, Pauline (Benoit Lafond), plusieurs neveux, nièces et certains bons amis. Il a été employé de la CIP de Gatineau pendant plus de 30 ans. GRIFFIN, Rev. Lynn Maureen (nee Robinson) Died of complications from breast cancer on July 27, 2006, at her home in Renfrew, Ontario. She will be remembered with love and pride by her husband Peter Griffin; her brother Dick Robinson of Calgary; her sister Pat Duggleby of Regina; her nephews Jeremy Duggleby and Scott Robinson; her nieces Christine Nault (nee Robinson) and Kate Simard (nee Duggleby); grand-niece Alice Simard; and by hundreds of individuals in communities on two continents who grew up, worked, played, studied, worshipped and prayed alongside her. Lynn was born in Saskatoon October 26, 1947, second child and elder daughter of Bob and Betty Robinson, both now deceased. Her Life's journey was singular. She achieved academic distinction with five university degrees including a PhD in modern French poetry from l'Universite de Nice (1976), an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan (1981) and a bachelor of theology degree from St. Paul University in Ottawa (1995). Professionally she held diverse positions including those of Saskatchewan manager for the National Film Board of Canada (1977-81); assistant professor at the U of S College of Commerce (1981-83); executive assistant to the dean of the College of Arts and Science (U of S, 1983-87); assistant director of corporate program services at CBC head office in Ottawa (1987-92); and rector; first at St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Deep River, Ont. (8 years) and then St. Paul's in Renfrew, Ontario (4 months). Personally, Lynn's life was a restless quest for knowledge, enlightenment, and faith - a quest that came closest to fulfillment during 15 years of marriage to her beloved mate, Peter. Those who loved Lynn rejoice in her release from suffering, and draw comfort from the knowledge that when they too pass, they will find a friend waiting for them. A special thanks to Drs. Stan Gertler, Joanne Meng, Heather Bastionelli, Art Dick and the staff of the Renfrew Hospital and General Hospital. MOORE, Margaretta Sarah (nee Beaver). March 19, 1923 - July 24, 2006. Margaretta "Etta" passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Etta will be greatly missed by her beloved husband and soul-mate, Thomas Arthur, and five sons Leonard (Cathy), William (Carol), Donald (Jacqueline), Glenn (Suzanne), and Clayton (Linda), sister, Lillian, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces/nephews. While raising her boys, she found time to study nursing and successfully became a Practical Nurse. Flowers, plants and wild birds brought her much joy - and so she found much peace spending time with Tom in her 'Butchart'-like garden at home. She loved crafts, including doll making, ceramics, sewing and crocheting. A Memorial Service will be held at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, B.C. Saturday August 5, 2006 at 1 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Trillium Lodge for her excellent care. DUNPHY, BEATRICE ELIZABETH (BETTY) The death of Beatrice Elizabeth (Betty) Dunphy of Fredericton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on July 26th, 2006 at the age of 96. She was the daughter of the late William and Henrietta (MacPherson) Hanson of West Saint John. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 70 years, Harry Dunphy, sons Paul (Judy), Carl (Brenda), 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Betty was a founding member of Grace Memorial United Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of The Women's Missionary Society. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Mattatall, and brothers Earl and Carl. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to River Valley Funeral Services; 50 Avonlea Court, Fredericton (455-4267). At Betty's request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Grace Memorial United Baptist Church on Monday, July 31st, 2006 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Doug Hapeman officiating, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Born in Odell he was the son of the late Herman and Eliza Wright. George is survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, five brothers; Dan, Doug, Rob, Herman and Reid, two sisters; Vivian and Jane. Doo Chung Chan (John Lee) Doo Chung Chan (John Lee) 86, of Spencer Memorial Home, Moncton, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 28, 2006. Born in Tai Chuck, Kwong Tung Province, China, he was the son of the late Mon Nonh and Wong Moy Chan. Doo Chung was a former Chef at the Palace Grill Restaurant, Main St. and owner of the Rice Bowl, Mountain Road, Moncton. He enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Doo Chung is survived by his daughter, Har Gook Cai (Hong Kui Cai), Toronto, ON; Son, Kam (Tuoi), Moncton; Grandchildren, William, Douglas, Gordon, Steven; Several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Zah You Ma (1993); One sister and seven brothers. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Saturday and Sunday 2 to 4pm. Nelson Leverette McFee RED DEER, AB - Mr. Nelson Leverette McFee of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at the age of 81 years. Nelson was born on January 14, 1925 in Intervale, New Brunswick. He farmed for seven years, and then served 22 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Nelson resided for many years in Vancouver, B.C., before retiring to Red Deer. Nelson will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Dorothy; his sons, David (Mary) McFee of Rimbey and Wayne (Margo) McFee of Vancouver, B.C., as well as four grandchildren, Karen, Jonathan (Becky), Kevin (Amy), and Karson. Nelson was predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Mabel McFee and his brother, John. With respect for Nelson's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. Born in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, and later a resident of Halifax, N.S., Windsor, Ont., Toronto, Ont., and currently of Sudbury, Ont., he was the son of the late Frank A.W.K. and Ethel R. (Viner) Lewis. Frank graduated from Annapolis Royal Academy in 1952. He was retired from the Canada Employment and Insurance Commission after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Luke's Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, N.S. He is survived by sisters Lucie (Mrs. Spencer Oliver), Halifax; Alice (Mrs. Harris Sugimoto, Chilliwack, B.C.; brother James (Joan) Brothers, Halifax; nieces Celest, Janis and Laura; nephews Jeremy and Christopher; three great nieces; two great nephews; two great great nephews; many extended family members and fondly remembered by his former wife and friend, Milka Zorojevich Tweed; former co-workers and friends. OJA, Alfred “Volli“ - In loving memory of Alfred Voldemar Oja who passed away July 24th, 2006 at the age of 86 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Alfred was born in Estonia in 1920. He married the love of his life Vera on December 15, 1948 and together immigrated to Canada in 1951 and moved to Sudbury, and later to Val Caron where he worked for INCO for 33 years, retiring in 1984. Beloved husband of Vera and cherished father of Viido (Shirley) of Sudbury, Robert (Nonie) of Thunder Bay and Paul ( Eda) of Toronto. Grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 7. Brother of Edward (Eino) of Brampton and Hilda of Estonia. Alfred had a passion for the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his 3 boys. Dad was a jack of all trades and possessed a strong work ethic and love of life which he passed on to the next generation. Alfred was a member of The Estonian Community of Sudbury. PAUL, Arthur Ellis - In loving memory of Arthur Ellis Paul, 94 years of Sudbury, who passed away Monday, July 24th, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Cache Bay and married Evelyn (Cornthwaite) in Sudbury. Someone once said that strength resides not in wealth, or knowledge, or politics but in human character. Our Dad had great strength. If goodness is measured on the basis of pursuing virtues as a way of life (honesty, kindness, fairness and humility), our Dad was always a good man. If true success as a person is equated with how well one is liked and loved by others, Dad was indeed a very successful man. He came to Sudbury from Cache Bay at the age of 17 to work for his uncle, Dan Jessup, who owned a grocery store at the corner of Elm and Regent Streets. This was where he met his wife, Evelyn (predeceased 2002). He was later employed by Sudbury Steam Laundry, retiring at the age of 68 after 39 years service. Art was a member of St. Paul's United Church and was one of the many volunteers who constructed the church. Beloved husband of Evelyn “Ev“ (Cornthwaite) Paul predeceased 2002. Loving father of Ada (Fred Gundrum), Ken Paul (Henrietta) and Richard Paul (Barbara) all of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Allan Gundrum (Sue), Susan Langille (Steve), Kelly Mazerolle (Steve), Lori Martin (Dave), Tressa Paul, Samantha Tobin and Patrick Tobin; great grandchildren Kyle, David, Lauren, Benjamin, Christopher, Mackinlay, Loganne, Jayna and Rylin. Dear son of James and Mary Ann (Jessup) Paul predeceased. Dear brother of Jim (wife Ollie) both predeceased, Ken of Oshawa (wife Reggie predeceased), Bob (wife Perky) of Sudbury, Stan predeceased, Mary Mills (husband Wes) both predeceased. TOLTESI Maria Etelka 1919 - 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Toltesi on Friday, July 28, 2006 at the age of 87 years. Maria was predeceased by her husband John in 2001 and brother Balazs Szabo in the same year. She will be greatly missed by her son John and daughter-in-law Marta; grandchildren, Lisa and Steven and Christopher and Christa; and great-granddaughter Natalie Marie. Maria is also survived by her brothers, Istvan and Illes Szabo, both of Hungary. Maria was born in Csanadapaca, Hungary on March 22, 1919, the eldest and only daughter of four children born to Agnes and Balazs Szabo. She met her future husband, John, when she was sixteen years old and they were married on November 23, 1941. They immigrated to Canada with their eleven year old son, John in 1957. The welfare of her family was always her first priority and her greatest source of joy was her grandchildren and little great-granddaughter. She will be remembered for her strong, quiet faith, her gentleness, her ready smile and her unbounded generosity. Her legacy is a legacy of unselfish love that we will cherish and remember and strive to imitate.
