OBITUARY LEO ROBERT (Junior) 1932-2006. Passed away peacefully on June 2, 2006 surrounded by his family. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Opal, dear father of Donnie (Lucie), Pamela (Edward), Robin (Debby), Deborah (Andre), Glenn (Maria), Shelley (Robert) and Angela (Yves). Cherished Granpa / Papa to Kim (Peter), Amanda (Charles), Chris (Anne-Marie), Lee, JD, Jeffrey, Casey (Jenn), Ann Marie, Lucien, Jamie, Sheena, Jessie, Michelle, Jillian, Craig, Kylie, Carl, Stephanie, Dylan and Jonathan. Also Great-Grandfather to Colleen, Matthew and Victoria. Will be missed by his sister Theresa and his brothers Ronald (Aline) and Donald (Jeannot) and many other relatives and friends too numerous to name. He was inducted into the "Hall of Recognition" for his many years of coaching and volunteer work in Point St. Charles. RUTLEDGE, Betty. Edythe Betty Rutledge, age eighty-six, of Stratford and formerly of Montreal passed away at the Stratford General Hospital on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Born in Vancouver, B.C., she was the daughter of the late Anson Bliss Cole Rutledge and the former Edythe Elliot Hirsch. Betty moved to Stratford from Montreal in 1987 and operated Rutledge House Bed and Breakfast until 2003. Cherished mother of Jane Hergel and husband John of Stratford. Loving grandmother of Jason Hergel and Kate Hergel. Also surviving are a brother Don Rutledge and wife Marilyn of Sechelt, B.C., and three nephews Don, Mike and Ken Rutledge. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers Bob and Howard Rutledge. At Betty's request, there will be no funeral home visitation or service and her body has been bequeathed to the University of Western Ontario, London for medical education and research. ARCHIBALD, James Putnam (1912-2006). Justice J. P. Archibald passed away on May 28 in Daytona, Florida. Devoted father and father-in-law of Susan and Frederick Kluge of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and Jim and Rachel Archibald of Montreal, Justice Archibald was predeceased by his wife, Leta, and his two sisters, Mary Campbell and Ruth Archibald. In addition to his children, he is survived by his six grandsons, Jimmy Brown (Kim) of Cumberland, Maine, Marc Brown (Lisa) of Wake Front, North Carolina, Fredrick Brown (Amy) of Melrose, Massachusetts, Georges (Carmit) and Benjamin (Abigail) Archibald both of New York and Samuel Archibald of Montreal, one granddaughter, Leslie Jagoe (George) of Maputo, Mozambique, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Justice Archibald was a distinguished member of the Maine judiciary having served continuously as an active and active-retired member of both the Superior and Supreme Judicial Courts since his initial appointment in 1956. He leaves a legacy of legal decisions rooted in his profound respect for human dignity and the equality of all before the law. McKAY, Ruth Vivien (nee Johnston) - Peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital, Friday, June 2, 2006 at the age of 75. Ruth taught elementary school for 28 years. In her retirment, she dabbed in real estate. Out of her sense of community, Ruth was an active volunteer in many organizations. Having been diagnosed with cancer, she fought a brave and determined battle. Predeceased by her husband Irvine, son Vaughn, grandson Trevor, her parents, Maude McFarlane and Harry Johnston & her brother Robert Johnston. She will be sadly missed by her four daughters Valerie Lambrechts (Erwin), Joy Beaudin, Shelly DeVuono (Enzo), Tina Appleby (Brian), and her daughter-in-law Darlene McKay (Howard Steed). Grandma was loved and cherished by her 12 grandchildren, Scott McKay (Jamie), Curtis McKay (Kelly), Brent Lambrechts (Heidi), Melanie Sargison (Steve), Anthony, Adam and Nicholas DeVuono, Mathew and Sarah Beaudin, and Brianna and Kenny Appleby and seven great-grandchildren. SOMMERFELD Viktoria (geb. Ritter) Viktoria (geb. Ritter) Sommerfeld of Kelowna, BC passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the age of 91. She was born on June 7, 1914 in Tariverde, Romania, moved to Canada from Germany in 1956 and has lived in Kelowna since 1980. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. We will miss her humour, her charm, her amazing memory, her kindness, her love of her family and her beautiful smile. We knew her as Oma, Mutter, Viktoria and Mrs. Sommerfeld. Viktoria was predeceased by her husband Reinhold; grandson Robert Reitz; brother Theodor Ritter; and sister Maria Ritter. Viktoria is survived by her six children, son Viktor (Geraldine) of Kelowna; daughter Frieda Reitz (Walter) of Kelowna; daughter Irmgard Beierle (Theodor) of Kelowna; daughter Ingrid Gutsche of Edmonton; son Fritz (Bonnie) of Calgary; son Ted (Lorna) of Kelowna; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; brother Gottlieb Ritter of Calgary; and brother Karl Ritter (Johanna) of Edmonton. OBITUARY RONALD HERBERT PEROWNE 1918-2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad Ronald Herbert Perowne, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dad was born on Waverly Street to Anna Hooks and Herbert Perowne. A gifted athlete from a very early age, dad was a member of the McGill Redman Football and Hockey Championship Teams, honoured member of the McGill Sports Hall of Fame, hockey player with the Senior Royals and recipient of the Montreal Sportsman's Trophy. In 1940, dad enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy where during WWII, he served as Lieutenant on the Corvette H.M.C.S. Woodstock. In 1945, he married the love of his life Eunice Hellyer McConnell, to whom he was married for 57 years, until Eunie succumbed to cancer in 2002. Dad joined Dominion Textile after the war in 1945, where he pursued a dynamic career spanning over 50 years, rising to the rank of President, CEO and Chairman of the Board. A great competitor, dad played golf, poker, bridge and hearts with passion, if not always with skill. An avid tennis player, even at 80 years of age, he was still giving all of us a run for our money on the tennis court at the family home on Lac Marois. Dad was extremely committed to family and friends and took great pride in his role as trustee of the Jean Beliveau Foundation, avid supporter of the Cedars Cancer Institute and as an active canvasser for the Mount Royal United church, as well as numerous charitable organizations. He was predeceased by his wife Eunice and his sister Margaret. He is survived by his children Jo Ann (Derek Guthrie), Cathy (Pat Patterson), Elaine (Austin Metze), Ron (Gail Murphy), and Ian (Debbie Howlett), his grandchildren Kelly, Christine, Holly, Ryan, Charlie, Fred, Lisa, Chris, Jim, Greg and Eric, as well as seven great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all of us. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4 p.m. at Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin-de-la-Foret, Outremont. CORBEIL, Gertrude LA FAMILLE CORBEIL a le regret de vous annoncer le décès de Mlle Gertrude Corbeil est décédée le mardi 30 mai 2006, à l'âge de 80 ans. Elle était la fille de feu Hormidas Corbeil et de feu Rose Alma Calvé. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Florence Campbell, ses frères: Maurice (Jacqueline), Bernard (Aurore) ainsi que plusieurs cousins, cousines, neveux et nièces. Elle fut prédécédée par sa soeur Gloria et par ses frères: Jean, Robert, Roland et André. Il n'y aura pas de visites au salon. SCHELL, Dorothy - of New Lowell, passed away peacefully at The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital on Thursday June 1, 2006 in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late William. Loving mother of Bill (Sandra) of Brentwood and Joan Derby (Don) of Barrie. Cherished grandmother of Kim, Lisa (John), Lori and the late Keith, Susan (Mark), Jessica, Maria (Paul), Tanya, Mark (Summer). Loved great-grandmother of eight great-grandchildren. Fr. Henry W. McGrath 1915-2006 MIRAMICHI, NB - Father Henry W. McGrath, 91, of Dawson Street, Miramichi, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 2, 2006 at the Miramichi Hospital. Born January 19, 1915 at Barnaby River, NB., son of the late William A. McGrath and Mary Bridget Sullivan. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by brothers and sisters: John (Frances Hackett), Rita (Ray Daley), Patrick (Anna Hackett) Gerald (Ruby Kelly, Kathleen Duthie) He graduated from St. Thomas College and Holy Heart Seminary, Halifax. He was ordained on June 11, 1944 by Bishop Camille-Andre LeBlanc. Father McGrath served briefly as Curate at St. Mary's Church, Newcastle and went on to teach at St. Thomas High School in September, 1944. After furthering his studies at Fordham, New York he taught chemistry at St. Thomas College. He served as Prefect of discipline and as Bursar of the Institution until the college was transferred to Fredericton in 1964. He served as Director of St. Thomas alumni and as Chaplain to St. Michael's alumnae. He was a member of the STU Board of Governors from 1960 to 1983. He was resident priest at St. Dunstan's, Fredericton; St Ann's, Kingsclear; St. Joachim's, Boiestown; St. Andrew's, Loggieville; and St. Mary's, Newcastle Other offices held by "Father Henry" included eight years on the Catholic Women's League, and the Chaplaincy of Branch no. 10, Newcastle, Royal Canadian Legion. Father McGrath distinguished himself as Chaplain of the 2nd Battalion, Royal NB Regiment, (North Shore), Militia, and he served as Officiating Clergyman at CFB Chatham. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Father McGrath was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree by St. Thomas University on October 19, 1985 for his many contributions to Education, to the Church, and to Society in general. His publication, "A Bit of Irish History on the Miramichi" is a compact history of his home parish in Barnaby River. Throughout his retirement years, Father McGrath remained active in Parish work; he loved gardening and the outdoors; fishing, snowshoeing, skiing, and feeding the basement wood stove in wintertime. Father McGrath is resting at Bells Funeral Home on Saturday, June 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm; and on Sunday from 2 to 4pm; following which remains will be transferred to Saint Mary's Church, where he will lay in state on Sunday evening, June 4, for visitation and Solemn singing of Vespers at 8:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 12:00pm. Interment in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery, Barnaby River, NB.
