KIRBY, Mary Elisabeth Passed away in Ottawa, on Thursday, May 18, 2006 after a sudden and difficult struggle with cancer. Born in Montreal on August 25, 1940. Loving mother of son David McNab of Nanaimo, daughter Catherine McNab-Lewers (Baron) of Montreal, and loving grandmother of Daniel, Lesley Ann and Jah Ashley. Cherished by her brother Michael Kirby (Bobby Calder) of Ottawa and sister Monica Mason (Roy) of Goderich, and her dear friend and step-mother Mary Kirby of Halifax. Liz was predeceased by her parents, Rev John Charles Kirby and Monica Mary Kirby and by her granddaughter Natasha McNab. Her death will also be felt by many dear friends in Ottawa, Halifax, Montreal, Toronto and her newly rediscovered family in Newfoundland. Friends are invited to a Funeral Eucharist at St. John the Evangelist, at the corner of Elgin and Somerset Streets, in Ottawa, on Monday, May 22 at 11 a.m. No visitation and, at Liz's request, no flowers please. The burial of Cremated Remains will take place at a future date at St. Stephen's Parish cemetery, Lachine. MANDOLI, Alfred John Died suddenly at home on Tuesday, May 16 in his 68th year. He was cherished by his children Nicola (Robert Landry), Mark (Monique) and Michele, he is mourned by his loving wife Ruth Luettig, and he was a proud grandfather to Stephanie and Sofia. Fred's full career was spent in Canada's Armed Forces, culminating as a Chief Warrant Officer following postings in Canada, U.K and Germany over a span of 37 years. He was a long-time active volunteer and supporter of the Special Olympics. As he requested, he has been cremated, and his ashes will be scattered over the family's lakeside property. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-1900 Merivale Road, Ottawa ON K2G 4N4. BURTCH, George William - At West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby on Thursday, May 18, 2006 after a four year struggle with cancer. George Burtch of Beamsville in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Burton) for 56 years and dear father of Edward (Ted) and wife Lesley and the late Douglas (2004) and wife Sheri. Loving grandfather of Allison (Jason), Stephen, Jennifer, Michael and Shawn, and great grandfather of Emily. Also survived by sister Gertrude (Harry) Rittenhouse, sisters- in-law Joan Burtch and Alice Burtch and many nieces and nephews, and very good friends Patsy and Larry Bridgland and his new cat Mittens. Predeceased by siblings Howard, Gordon, Norman (Bill), Hazel, Dorothy and Ada. George was a member of Branch 612 RCL for over 50 years and of Trinity United Church. Mr. Burtch is at the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOME 4998 King St., Beamsville where the family will receive friends on Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Trinity United Church, William St., Beamsville on Saturday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. with interment in Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill. MITCHELL, Captain George Melville Mitchell at West Park Retirement Home, St. Catharines on Thursday May 18, 2006, Captain George Melville Mitchell in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Phylis for 44 years. Dear father of Bob Mitchell (Verna), Judy MacGregor (Bill), Sharon Carl (Sheldon), Laura Scott (Randy) and the late Sandy Mitchell (Nov. 2003). Also loved by his grandchildren Tammy, Melissa, Shelley, Madeleine and his great-grandaughter Paige. Dear brother of Irene, Elsie and Jim. Captain Mitchell sailed on the Great Lakes and was a Pilot for the St. Lawrence Seaway. He was a champion Fiddle Player and belonged to the Old Tyme Fiddle Club in St. Catharines. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. SHEWCHENKO, Cecilia (born August 7, 1926) - Died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 14th, 2006. Her final weeks were filled with flowers, photos, music and birds at the feeder. Her desire to die with dignity was supported with love by her family and many friends, as well as the compassionate care of the nursing and home care team. Cecilia is now dancing in the stars with her beloved husband Walter. Cecilia embraced life with vivacious joy, curiosity and boundless energy. She treated people with kindness, touching everyone by her generous heart, positive attitude and... her cooking! Food is love. She was also a very strong and determined woman. Shaped by her tomboy childhood in Dolina, Poland; tested by WWII and the responsibilities of starting a family and a new life in Canada. She lived life fully and with great humour - to the end. Oksana, Peter and Tony are very proud to be her children and will miss her very much. As will her grandchildren; Krystian, Andrew, Tammy, Tera and Max. Cremation has taken place. Cecilia's family will receive visitors at St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Rd., St. Catharines on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at 16 Dixie Rd., St. Catharines, Ontario. TODD, Timothy Michael - September 03, 1957 - May 12, 2006. After a lengthy and courageous battle, peacefully surrounded by family at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Tim was the beloved husband and best friend of Christine Elizabeth, cherished and loving father of Donovan William. Predeceased by his mother Dolores Patricia (Pat). Survived by his beloved father Tim Sr., brother Robert (Rosemarie), and sister Sandy Culp (Kevin) of Amherst, New York. Dear uncle to Alexander, Joshua, Zachary, Michael, and Matthew. Tim will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many family and friends. Tim worked at Stelco Inc. for twenty-nine years and was the founder of Golden Horseshoe Lawn Sprinklers. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place with no service or visitation. There will be an informal Celebration of Life on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Mick & Angelo's from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. Please bring your favourite story. Barbara Comeau (1939-2006) l'Acadie Nouvelle - 19 mai 2006 LAVILLETTE - À l’Hôpital régional de Miramichi, le jeudi 18 mai 2006, à l’âge de 66 ans, est décédée Barbara Comeau, ex-épouse d’Arcade Comeau, domiciliée à Lavillette. Née le 3 juin 1939, elle était fille de feu Jeffrey Leclair et de feu Odile Fournier. Elle laisse dans le deuil deux filles: Isabelle (Rénald) de Brantville et Murielle de Lavillette; deux fils: Gérald (Olive) avec qui elle demeurait et Antoine (Yvonne), tous deux de Lavillette; une soeur, Marie-Anne de Lavillette; sept frères: Sandy (Marie-Anne), Théodore (Florence) et Viateur, tous de Lavillette, Didier (Thérèse) de Brantville, Athanase (Adrienne) et Charlie (Rosaline), tous deux de Montréal et Archie de Toronto; six petits-enfants: Isaïe, Danick, Vanessa, Kellie, Emélie et Ricky; quatre filleuls: Claudia, Clément, Delphis et Léona, ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines. Un fils, Antoine en bas âge, ainsi qu’une soeur, Thérèse, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison Robichaud, 50, rue Otho à Néguac. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Dominique-Savio de Lavillette, le samedi 20 mai, à 14h. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière de Lagacéville. NOVINGER Martha Anne May 25, 1922 - May 17, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce that our mother, Anne Novinger, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the Foothills Medical Centre. Anne was born in Montreal on May 25, 1922. She graduated with a degree in Library Sciences from McGill University before joining the WRENS in Halifax in 1943. Anne married the love of her life, Don, in 1948, and they shared fifty-five happy years of marriage. Anne and Don relocated to Calgary in 1965 with their family. Anne is survived by her five children, Mike (Fiona), Martha Faulkner (Bill), Barbara Cooper (Alan), Louise Novinger Grant (Bob Grant), Janet Lajeunesse (John); thirteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Anne is also survived by her brother, Brian How (Janet) of Ithaca, NY.; and predeceased by her brother, George How and her sister, Lorraine How. Anne was very involved with Christ Church Elbow Park, Calgary West Rotary Club, bridge, book club, golf, gardening, hiking and cross country skiing in the Kananaskis area. Anne loved spending time with her grandchildren and holiday celebrations with the entire Novinger family. Michael was a feisty, fun-loving soul who made an immediate and lasting impression on everyone he met. His sense of humour, quick wit and passion for life will be sorely missed. Elizabeth Noreen Vickers Mongovan STAMFORD, CT - Elizabeth Noreen Vickers Mongovan, of Stamford, CT passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 after a brief illness. Born on November 23, 1916 in Brownville Jct, Maine, she was the 2nd daughter and 9th child of Florance A. Vickers (dec) and Margaret E. (Bagot) Vickers (dec). She was educated in Brownville Jct schools and the Eastern Maine Medical Center School of Nursing. She was awarded a State of Maine gold medal in public speaking while at Brownville Jct High School. She began her career as a lab technican and chief nurse for her brother, Dr. Martyn A. Vickers Sr. of Bangor, Maine. In 1940 she married William D. Mongovan II (dec) of Bangor and had one son, William D. Mongovan III of Stamford, CT. With her love for children, she began teaching and started with the primary grades. Family moves took her to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and later Greenwich, CT. While in Greenwich she established the first preschool program at Greenwich Catholic Middle School after teaching second grade at St. Catherine's School in Riverside for many years. She also was a teacher of CCD for St. Agnes Parish in Greenwich, CT where she and her husband were founding members and St. Thomas More Parish in Darien, CT. She spent her summers in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada, the birth place of her father where she found her passion fishing the famous Miramichi River. In a small community named Howard, New Brunswick she taught religion classes and raised money for many community causes including establishing a scholarship fund to motivate and support children from the area to pursue a post secondary education. In later years she enjoyed sitting by the banks of the river sketching. She is survived by her son, William D. Mongovan III of Stamford and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins spread throughout Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New Brunswick, Canada The family will receive friends at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT on Sunday, May 21 from 4 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, May 22 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 247 Stanwich Road, Cos Cob, CT. BLACK Allan Rupert Nov. 26, 1924 May 17, 2006 Former Mayor of Shawville, P.Q. 1977-1987 Overnite Express Employee As the result of a prolonged health problem, due to injuries from a fall at the family cottage on September 13, 2002, Allan died at Pontiac Community Hospital. Born in Shawville, he was the youngest and last living member of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Joseph Black (Annie Louise Wilson). He was the beloved husband of Eleanor Sadie Pirie with whom he would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on Nov. 26, 2006. He will also be greatly missed by his son Gordon (Kathy Kelso) of Manotick. His elder son William (Bill) predeceased him suddenly in 1998. Surviving also are his daughter in law Irene Black and 3 grandsons, William Allan Black (Maria), of Marionville, Douglas Martin Black (Leslie Ann) and Robert Allan Black, both of Ottawa and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his only granddaughter Andrea Margaret Black in 1985. Also predeceased by his siblings Elizabeth (late John Black), Martin (late Gladys McKnight), Beatrice (late Robert Blackler) and Clifton (Muriel Jackson), and half-brother George (late Alice Smith) and half sister Osra (late Bert Evenden). Surviving also are many kind and loving nieces and nephews from Sudbury, Chatham, Brockville, Carleton Place, Renfrew, Charlottetown, Constance Bay, Pakenham, Orleans, Bristol, and Shawville. Also survived by brothers in law Clayton Pirie, George Pirie (Winnifred) and sister in law Joy Pirie (Dalton Hodgins). Predeceasing him were brother in law William (Bill) Pirie and his wife Anne Dagg. Allan had many community interests. He was a member of Shawville Council for 33 years. He was well known in the Pontiac as an Overnite Express driver, in which business he worked 46 years. He was a member of Pontiac Masonic Order for over 50 years, Past President of the original Shawville Chamber of Commerce, Charter member of Shawville Senior Citizens Apts. Inc., past member of Pontiac Reception Centre, Shawville volunteer fireman for 25 years (1952-1977) and a minor hockey coach for 12 years, as well as a member of Shawville United Church.
