PLAYFAIR Allan Norman On Sunday, April 16, 2006 Mr. Allan Playfair of Calgary passed away. Born February 22, 1927 in Lacombe, Alberta to Gordon Playfair and Clara Morden. He left home at an early age to work in the lumber mill and seasonal farm work. He moved to Red Deer and worked for the Central Alberta Dairy Pool where he met Pearl Ellestad, and they married in 1950. He worked as a grain buyer until upgrading his education and became a power engineer. He then worked in Kitimat, British Columbia and then moved back to Calgary where he worked at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, and then worked as Chief Engineer for CP Resort Hotels. Pearl predeceased Allan in May of 1975. He met Geraldine Savard while working at the Banff Springs Hotel and they have been together for the past twenty-seven years. Allan is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine; his three children, Larry (Narda), Daryl (Linda) and Stacy (Ruscel); ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at PIERSON'S Forest Lawn Chapel, 4121 - 17 Avenue S.E., Calgary with Elder Larry Playfair officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made in Allan's memory to the Lung Association, PO Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, Alberta, T6E 9Z9. Dear sister of Rita Fitzgerald (late Ron) of Sudbury. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Jean-Marie Johnny, Aim (late Marguerite), Arthur, Marcel (late Thrse), Aurel (Reina of Chelmsford), Rosaline Frappier and Berthe Harrison (late Leo). BERES, David James - The family of David James Beres announces with sorrow his death peacefully at his home in Elliot Lake on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the age of 50. Dave was born in Sudbury and lived his life in Lively until he moved to Elliot Lake in 1976. He was a deckman for Rio Algom Ltd. until 1996. For the last 7.5 years he was driver for Union Taxi. He will be greatly missed by his wife Cathy (DuPont) of 29 years, his son Nick, both of Elliot Lake, his parents Louis and Irene, sister Linda (Bruce) Streitenberger, his brother Tim (Gail), all of Hanmer, and his sister Janet (Alan) Martin of Lively. Also by many neices and nephews. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date, at David's request there will not be a service. Arrangements by ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL SERVICES.

McCORMICK, William Bill - In loving memory of William Bill McCormick, 60 years, of Garson, who passed away Friday, April 14th, 2006 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Center. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Gilfillan) McCormick predeceased 1984. Special father to Kathaleen of Toronto and William Jr. of Garson. Dear son of William Sr. and Emily Lily predeceased. Dear brother of Emily Pooky Turner predeceased and Marlene Paige of Toronto. Bill was a life long resident of the Sudbury area. He was the manager of the Coniston Liquor Store retiring in 1996. Bill was also a former first vice president of the Ontario Liquor Control Board Employees Union and a former president of the Coniston Lions Club. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. LLOYD, Thomas George Bedford - At the North Bay General Hospital, on Sunday April 16th, 2006 at the age of 83 years. Thomas George Bedford Lloyd was the beloved husband of Helen Elizabeth Seebach, who predeceased him in 1997. Proud and loving father of Tim Lloyd (Helen Buckie), Tracy Christanson, (Brodie) and Vicki Campbell (Jim). Dear Grandpa to Michael, James, David, and Steven. Son of the late Nora and Charles Lloyd formerly of Toronto, Tom is survived by his brothers Clarke and Peter. A veteran of WW II Tom served in the Navy. His working life was spent with the Quaker Oats Company. A community minded man Tom was a former member of the Brampton town council. He was an active member of Powassan Lodge # 443, A.F. & A.M., the Rorab Shrine Club, the North Bay Heritage Railway and Community Waterfront Friends. He especially enjoyed his time as “Loco“, with the Shrine Clown Unit. He was honored several years ago by North Himsworth Township as their Senior Citizen of the year. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) this afternoon Tuesday April 18th from 2 - 4 pm and evening 7 - 9 pm. Masonic Service will be held in the funeral home this evening at 7:00 pm. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday April 19th at 1:30 pm. KLASSEN Henry 1937 - 2006 Henry Klassen of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the age of 68 years. Henry was born September 19, 1937 in Altona, MB. He is survived by three children, Jewelle, Wendy, and Trevor Klassen, and his granddaughter Alexandria, all of Calgary. JACKSON Sydney 1929 - 2006 Sydney passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the age of 76 years old at the Bethany Care Centre. Besides his loving wife Donna, Sydney will be mourned by their daughters, Theresa and Paul, Tracey, Lorraine and Brenda, all of Calgary, Wanda of Listowel, ON; sons, Tom of Didsbury, Michael and Nerrilee of Perth, AU and Grant and Holly of Richmond, BC.; fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will all miss him greatly and always remember him with much love and affection. Sydney was predeceased by his daughter Trudeen in August, 2005. HUME Ronald Arthur 1945 - 2006 Ron Hume, born May 25, 1945 in Banff, Alberta, away suddenly at home on April 14, 2006 with his wife Val by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his soulmate of thirty-eight years; daughters, Shari (Peter), Nicole (Todd) and Jodi (Trevor); son Brad (Allison); grandson Jordan; and step-grandchildren, Jordan and Alex. He was predeceased by his parents, Eileen and Neddy Hume and he will be sadly missed by numerous friends and family. Ron was with the Calgary Police Service for twenty-five years and retired in 1990, then went to work at the Alberta Human Rights Commission, retiring in January after fifteen years. Ron has several years of volunteering under his belt with the Stampede Caravan Committee, Stampede Parade Committee and Minor Hockey (AMHL, NEAA and PSA). PHILLIPS, Patrick Hugh. (Age fifty-two). Died peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2006 at the M.G.H. surrounded by people who love him. Pat's dignified journey with cancer, and indefatigable spirit was an inspiration to all whose life he touched. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Sandy (Pennell) and his cherished sons, Bradley and Andrew. BULNES, May (nee Smalridge). After a courageous battle with cancer, May Bulnes died in her eighty-second year on April 16, 2006. THOMAS, Margaret Anne Peacefully with her family close by her side at the St. Joseph's Site of the Sudbury Regional Hospitals on Sunday, April 16, 2006 at the age of 54. Predeceased by her parents, Rexford and Mae Alexander and her baby brother, Rex. Marg was an amazing wife for 33 years to Rick, loving mother of Jake, and will never be forgotten. She will be sadly missed by brothers, Robert Alexander (Roberta) and Richard Alexander (Marilyn) and sisters, Jacqueline Townsend (Grant) of Goderich, Ontario and JoAnn Cain (Brian). The thoughts of many cousins, nieces and nephews are with her. HART, Kenneth Howell Ken was a caring and thoughtful man, alwa0,,,,,,,,,,,,ys concerned about the well being of his many friends and family. He was a scientist by profession and took a keen interest in the how and why of everything. He was an accomplished amateur naturalist, and was particularly interested in bird watching and gardening. Ken was an avid curler and golfer, enjoying both sports until his last. He always had some advice to offer, and loved to fix things. Ken died peacefully on the morning of his 82nd birthday, April 5th 2006 in Chilliwack General Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Born April 5th 1924 in Edmonton, Alberta he was the son of the late Herbert J. D. Hart and Hannah (Langford) Hart. He attended the University of Alberta where he received an Msc. in Physics in 1948. He married his first wife Lorna (Boon) Hart in 1948. He taught at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, and then completed his PhD in Physics at the University of Toronto in 1953. Ken began his career at the National Research Council in Ottawa as a scientist in the Applied Physics Department. Shortly thereafter, Ken and Lorna moved to Cumberland Ontario where they raised their four children. During 1968, he worked for a year as an exchange scientist in Australia before returning to live in Ottawa. He married Ceile (MacEachern) Hart in 1974. He was an enthusiastic and competitive curler; the highlight of his career was when his Ottawa Curling Club rink won the Ontario Masters Curling Championship in 1990. He retired from the National Research Council in 1989 after 35 years of service. Ken and Ceile moved to Chilliwack BC in 1993; where he continued to enjoy golf, curling, and many friendships. Ken is survived by one daughter, Leslie (Johnny) Buckland-Nicks; three sons, Howard, (Darlene), Bruce (Jennie), Trevor; three step-daughters Sandra (Dave) Archibald, Judy (Marc) Tessier, Karen Edwards; one step-son Barry (Denise) Edwards; 11 grandchildren and his pet budgie Petie. He is pre-deceased by his second wife Ceile Hart; step-son Brian Edwards, and three brothers Hubert, Edward (Ted) and Laurence. A celebration of Ken's life will be held at his last home, the Lynnwood at 9168 Corbould Street, Chilliwack B.C. on Friday April 28th between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. CLOHESSY, Kim Raymond Passed away at 52 years of age, after a short battle with melanoma, on 14 April 2006 in Perth, Australia. Beloved husband of Alison (Yost) and loving father of Jonathon and James. Son of Raymond and Joan Clohessy of Perth. Kim was a founding Vice-President of DY4 Systems in Ottawa. He later moved to Scottsdale, Arizona working with Object Technology International and IBM as Vice-President (Imbedded Systems). He transferred to Perth in 2000, and recently resigned from IBM to form a new company. Kim was an avid sailor and diver who greatly enjoyed sailing and racing on the Swan River or the Indian Ocean. He will be sadly missed by his large extended family in Australia, by his in-laws, Brigadier General and Mrs. Bill Yost of Ottawa, and by his many friends in high tech circles around the world.
