BREAUX, Joanne Lewitt - November 22, 1917-December 19, 2005 A San Franciscan native, Joanne was the only child of Dr. Frederick and Shirley Lewitt. She attended Katherine Delmar Burke School and University of California at Berkeley where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She met and married Samuel Locke Breaux III. They moved to the Midwest where they raised their two children, Donna (Jerry) Prine and Richard (Kathryn) Breaux. Jo was a medical assistant by profession and a loyal member first of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in San Francisco and then Transfiguration Episcopal Church in San Mateo, She was active on the Altar Guild at both churches. Bridge, reading, and The Big Game were her passions. In addition to her two children, Joanne is survived by her grandchildren, Kristyn Breaux, Karyn (Dana) McLemore, and David Breaux. "G.G." will also be dearly missed by great-grandchildren, Mailey and Daylin McLemore. A Celebration of Life will take place on December 28 at 3:30pm at Transfiguration Episcopal Church, 3900 Alameda de las Pulgas, San Mateo, 94403. Cecilia - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Harris "Courie" Stewart Melancon, 71, who died Monday, December 19, 2005. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia. Mr. Melancon retired from the Lafayette Utility System in 1985. He also worked at Evangeline Downs for eight years as a security guard and at Diesi's Little Capital after retiring from LUS. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to go dancing and enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. He was married to his wife Dolores for 47 years. Survivors include his wife, Dolores Trahan Melancon of Arnaudville; four sons, Randy Melancon and his wife Roxanne, Travis Melancon and his wife, Susan, all of Lafayette, Willie Melancon and his companion Tracie, of Arnaudville and William "Yumpy" Melancon and his wife, Rhonda, of Sunset; one daughter, Merida Taylor and her husband, Jude, of Arnaudville; two brothers, Gussie Melancon and Alton "White" Melancon, both of Cecilia; one sister Murley Patin of Baton Rouge, eight grandchildren, Blake Melancon, Blaine Melancon, Bryce Melancon, Brandy Melancon, Chancie Gravouilla, Macy Melancon, Mason Taylor, and Landon Taylor; one great-grandchild, Zoey Melancon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert "Bay" and Linda Stewart Melancon, his brother, Dutile Melancon and his sister, Marie Latiolais. The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 Monday, December 26, 2005 and continue until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Monday Pallbearers will be Rives Verret (Bozo), Randy, Travis, Willie and Yumpy Melancon, Jude Taylor and Robert Hebert. Belinda Mercado Dion, 51, passed away on December 20, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Belinda was born in Ray, AZ and spent the last 24 years in Chandler, AZ. She is survived by daughters Kelly and Kristy, mother Antonia, sisters Martha and Eva, and brothers Leonard and Albert. She was a dedicated registered nurse at Chandler Regional Hospital for 24 years. During this period, Belinda's generosity and devotion touched and inspired many lives. Memorial services for Juanita Hainley, 84, of Beaumont will be held Tuesday, December 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the Christ Covenant Church with Dr. Winston Hancock and Reverend Jerry Fenter officiating. Mrs. Hainley was born May 7, 1921 in Lufkin, Texas to the late W.M. Newbern and Annie Dora Wimberly and passed away on December 19, 2005 at her residence in Beaumont. A member of Christ Covenant Church, she was a retired shoe buyer for various retail stores. Olga Mae Rodrigue Iles, beloved mother and grandmother, age 86, passed away on December 22, 2005, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, after a short illness. She was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur until 2000 when she moved to Beaumont. Olga Mae Rodrigue Iles was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Rodrigue Sr. in New Iberia, Louisiana, on June 22, 1919, the second of 4 children. She bore the distinguishing honor of being a direct descendant of the Revolutionary War Patriot Jean Baptiste Rodrigue, who served out of Louisiana under Galvez in 1776. At an early age her family moved to Port Arthur where she attended Franklin School. During her youth Olga Mae took piano lessons, was captain of the girls basketball team, and studied art, excelling in painting and sketching. After graduating high school in 1937 she worked for the telephone office. After Mass at St. Mary's Church one Sunday she met Howell Iles Sr. and they married shortly after in 1938. Olga Mae and Howell were married 56 wonderful years and raised 6 children in the home they built in 1939. During retirement she loved to garden flowers while Howell grew the vegetables. Together they were blessed with traveling overseas many times as well as many gatherings at lakes and beaches enjoying the children and grandchildren. Her lifelong dedication was to God and her family. Known to her grandchildren as "Bam" she had a playful sense of humor and a tenacious spirit. After she was widowed in 1994, she continued as a homemaker, serving St. James Parish as a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was also an active member of a social club for retired widows and widowers. After a stroke in 2000 she put her all into rehab and therapy at Baylor Hospital in Dallas and achieved a level of ability that allowed her to live independently with assistance at Collier Park in Beaumont. She took short Texas trips, and then a wonderful trip with her children to Honolulu Hawaii in 2003. Never a complainer, our beloved, precious Mother lived her Golden Days with grace, dignity and above all love for her ever grateful family and friends. Olga Mae Rodrigue Iles is survived by her brother, Henry J. Rodrique, Jr. (wife Erbel), her children Kenneth Craig Iles of Heidelberg, Germany (wife Roseann), Howell "Buddy" Iles Jr. of Okinawa, Japan (wife Judy), Paula Restrepo (husband John) of Dallas, Robert Iles (wife Patti) of Austin, Anne Pampolina (husband Ricci) of Lumberton; 6 grandchildren: Stephen Iles of Boulder, Colorado, Natalie Pampolina of College Station, Christopher Pampolina of Lumberton, Lauren and Gregory Iles of Austin, and Victoria Restrepo of Dallas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Pauline Rodrigue in 1950, son Johnny Iles in 1948, sister Marjorie Verret Gentil in 1970, father Henry Rodrigue Sr. in 1979, grandson Eric Iles in 1994, and husband Howell Iles Sr. in 1994. Her children wish to thank the excellent and compassionate care she received from the doctors and staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, especially Dr. Aldrich and Chantel for their kindness to our family. A rosary and visitation will be on Monday December 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 39th Street, Groves, Texas, with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Mass of Celebration and Thanksgiving will be on Tuesday, December 27, at 10 a.m. at Kirwin Hall, St. James Catholic Church, Port Arthur, Texas. BEAULIEU, RITA D., 83, of Clearwater, died Thursday (Dec. 22, 2005) at home. She was born in Biddeford, Maine, and came here in 1972 from New Britain, Conn. She worked 16 years for the license tag office in Clearwater. She was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Clearwater. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Antonio "Tony;" four sons, Guy, Pinellas Park, Conrad and Paul, both of Clearwater, and Michael, Quincy, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Gravel, Camille Francis Funeral service for Camille Francis Gravel will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 626 Fourth St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Kenneth Roy officiating. The altar server will be his great-grandson, Ryan Gravel Antoon. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son, Alexandria. Camille Gravel, 90, of Alexandria, died on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, in Naomi Heights Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine David Gravel; three children, Eunice Gravel, Camille F. Gravel III and Richard Alvin Gravel; his parents, Camille and Aline Delvaille Gravel; and two sisters, Yvonne Wright and Marie Louise Ryder. Mr. Gravel was a native of Alexandria and was a graduate of Menard Memorial High School. He attended the University of Notre Dame and received his degree from the College of Arts and Letters. His legal education included the LSU Law School and Catholic University of America School of Law. He received a doctor of laws (Honoris Causa) conferred by Loyola University, New Orleans, in 1976. Mr. Gravel was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 1940. He was a member of the Alexandria Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Mr. Gravel served on numerous state advisory boards and commissions during his career which included the Board of Supervisors for LSU and Agricultural and Mechanical College. Mr. Gravel served on many national and state boards and commissions related to human and civil rights. Within the state of Louisiana, between 1967 and 1988, Mr. Gravel served as special legislative counsel to the governor, special assistant attorney general, and executive counsel to the governor. Camille Gravel is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gianfala Gravel of Alexandria; three sons, Grady David Gravel of Pineville, Mark Alan Gravel and his wife, Kate, and Charles Gregory Gravel and his wife, Elycia, all of Alexandria; five daughters, Ann G. Vanderslice and her husband, Stephen J. Vanderslice, of Alexandria, Eileen G. Cappel and her husband, Richard B. Cappel, of Lake Charles, Martha G. Antoon and her husband, Thomas A. Antoon, of Alexandria, Virginia G. Carbo and Margaret Lynn Gravel, both of Alexandria; 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. ROMEO A. BEGNOCHE BURLINGTON — Romeo A. Begnoche, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at his home with his loving family by his side, following a courageous battle with colon cancer. Romeo was born in Burlington on Jan. 14, 1929, the son of the late Treffle and Cologne (Daignault) Begnoche. Romeo was married in Burlington on June 3, 1950, to Marie Theresa Plankey. Romeo was a member of the New England Teamsters and Trucking Union whose career in the trucking industry spanned over 30 years starting with Marcel Motors, which was later bought by Quinn Freightlines, and ultimately Maislin Transportaion of Delaware. He ended his career at Norton Brothers Trucking Company retiring in 1992. After retirement, Romeo continued to drive part-time for Priority Express. Romeo was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge 916. Romeo is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Marie Bagnoche; four daughters and one son, Linda Dusablon and her husband, Leo, of Colchester, Janice Palmer and her husband, Craig, of Charlotte, Nancy Pratt and her husband, Thomas of Colchester, Agnes Schumacher of Huntington, and David Begnoche and his wife, Stephanie of Essex Junction; 13 very special grandchildren with whom he enjoyed many hours during is retirement golfing, playing cards, and sharing his electrical and plumbing skills, as well as sharing stories of his youth growing up on the family farm in Swanton. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Alan Laroche of Gloucester, Mass., Jason Laroche and his wife, Kimberly, of Essex Junction, Luke Laroche of Colchester, Chad Palmer of Charlotte, Jodi Palmer of Shelburne, Travis Pratt and his fiancee, Lindsay Toumbleston, of Jacksonville, Fla., Ty Pratt of Colchester, Eric Beane of Essex Junction, Ashley Schumacher of Huntington, Samantha, Jacob, Jeremy and Jared Begnoche all of Essex Junction, and one great-grandchild, Kobe Pratt of Jacksonville, Fla. Romeo is also survived by four sisters and three brothers, Yvette Ouimette of Swanton, Leo and his wife, Elaine, of St. Albans, Juliet Ouimette and her husband, Guy, of Feeding Hills, Mass., Rolande Therrien and her husband, Clayton, of Feeding Hills, Loraine Mulheron and her husband, Zing, of Swanton and Deland, Fla., Real and his wife, Solange of Burlington, Bernard and his wife, Pat, of Swanton and Orange City, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Peck of Williston, Agnes Ross and her husband, Carl, of Hudson Falls, N.Y., and Judy White and her husband, Joe of Essex Junction, and several nieces and nephews. Romeo was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Ronald Begnoche. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. in St. Mark Catholic Church on North Avenue. Interment will follow in Resurrection Park, South Burlington. WEST SPRINGFIELD - Mr. Frederick J. Bergeron II, 87, of West Springfield, formerly of Holyoke, died Thursday December 22, 2005. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Frederick and Ann (Murray) Bergeron and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Fred was a longtime general foreman at American Bosch Company, retiring several years ago. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, a former member of the Holyoke Elks and the Bosch Management Club. His wife Sophie E. (Mazurowski) Bergeron died in 2001. He is survived by a daughter Beth E. Lang and her husband Stephen of West Springfield; five grandchildren: Andrew Patrick Bergeron, Kevin Frederick Bergeron, Frederick Bergeron IV, Kenneth Bergeron, and Marie Bergeron; a sister Mary Mazurowski and her husband Chester of Chicopee; a daughter-in-law Sally Bergeron of Monson, and several nieces & nephews. Fred was predeceased by his son Frederick J. Bergeron III in 2003. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 from the Barry J. Glynn Joseph Fournier, 88, a native of Raceland and resident of Mary Esther, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005.A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church, 246 Corporate Drive in Houma.He is survived by his wife, Mary Dawson Fournier; one son, Ray Fournier and wife, Rebecca; one daughter, Diana F. Joellen "Jo" Johns POITRAS Joellen died unexpectedly on Dec. 18th after a brief illness. She was born on 6-8-60 in Seattle, grew up there attending local schools. After high school, she married Mark Poitras, her husband of 27 years. They lived in Seattle a number of years before relocating to Granite Falls, WA. She is survived by her husband Mark, son Corey, daughter Andrea, mother Roberta Johns, brother Michael Johns, sisters Mary Johns Ottesen, Jenna Johns, Jaime Johns, father Robert D. SOUTH PORTLAND -- Robert Lalumiere, 84, of D Street, South Portland passed away on Dec. 21, 2005 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Mr. Lalumiere was born in Falmouth in 1921, son of Joseph and Eva Chalifoux Lalumiere. He was educated in Falmouth schools and was a graduate of Falmouth High School, the Boston Conservatory of Music and the Longee School of Music in Boston. After serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II, he returned to the family business, Elm Ice & OIl Company prior to beginning his musical training. Though classically trained, Mr. Lalumiere performed professionally as a pianist in various nightclubs and jazz venues in the Boston and Portland areas under the name of Bobby Laine. A sensitive interpreter of the Great American Songbook, he was also a talented songwriter of many songs of this genre. His 50-year career continued up to his recent illness two months ago. Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Margaret Cerino Lalumiere of South Portland; a son, Robert G. Lalumiere of Portland; two daughters, Suzanne E. Lalumiere of Woburn, Mass., and Margaret A. Lalumiere of Portland; two sisters, Jeannette Brown of Washington and Annette Howard of New Mexico; two grandchildren, Madison Lyn and Devinn James. CATHERINE (CATHY) E. MALLETTE died suddenly Thursday, December 22, 2005 at a local hospital in Houston, Texas at the age of 56. Cathy was born in Baytown, Texas on November 8, 1949 to Phillip and Margaret McIlwain. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert J. McIlwain, nephew Kenneth R. Mott and brother-in-law Gordon W. Davis. She is survived by her son David Mallette & wife Haley, granddaughter, Kyle Mallette, brother, Phillip McIlwain, sister, Margaret Davis, niece, Loretta McIlwain, niece, Phyllis McIlwain and her best friend of 30 years Patty Brinker. Cathy was employed at Jerry Kachel Builders for 6 years. Her granddaughter and son were her greatest joy. Cathy was a very spiritual person and her YaYa friends called her their "little minister." She had a creative mind and her hobby was designing one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. Her second love was her beloved dogs, Pede and Zoe. She was loved by many who, along with her family, will miss her deeply. Marten, Nadine Normandin -- Born February 19, 1917 in Long Beach, CA. Died peacefully at her home on December 16, 2005. Nadine attended UCLA and was prominent in the fashion industry as a buyer for the Broadway Dept. Stores later as Vice President of Advertising - Publicity- Promotion for Catalina Swimwear and Sportswear. After her retirement she devoted her time to charitable activities, serving as President of The Muses and on the national board of ARCS, reflecting her keen interest in furthering the scientific education of children. She is survived by her beloved husband John "Jack" Marten, Jr.; her daughter Wendy Riley; step-son John Marten III, his wife Dawn; granddaughters Cindy Conant, Amber Riley; grandson Dugan Riley; great-grandchildren Cynthia and Mellissa Conant, Ciera Trujillo, Krista and Kevin Riley; step-grandchildren Katie Marten, John Marten IV and Evan Marten. YOULE-WHITE, Laura A Vancouver, BC resident of 8 years, died peacefully on November 25, 2005. She was 80. Laura, born in Trieste, Italy, December 6, 1924, was predeceased in death by Michael John, and her oldest daughter Tamara. She is survived by children, Sylve and Julian Roger. Laura immigrated to Canada shortly after WWII, having survived the Nazi occupation. Her family's hotel business was commandeered and subsequent destroyed by the allied advance. Laura's father was executed by the Gestapo in the closing months of the war. Laura was a crusader against injustice and an activist of human rights, especially women's rights. She was an artist with a lifelong love affair of textiles and dress designing, and for a few years ran a successful dress designing business in Beverly Hills, California. Returning to Ottawa, Canada, when in 1997 she moved to Vancouver to be closer to her daughter Sylve and family after the death of Michael. Mrs. Servant graduated from the former Mary E. Wells High School class of 1942 and retired from the American Optical Company where she worked as a clerk in the accounting dept.
