Edward Hughes of Petawawa, beloved husband of the late Lois Hughes (nee LeCompte). Dear father of Joan Boucher (husband Eli), Ottawa. Predeceased by son Edward L. Hughes. Grandfather to Eli, Colin, Shane, John, Elizabeth, and Kendall. Also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. Son of the late Joseph and Rose Hughes. Predeceased by sister Emily McCaffrey. Nelda L. Broussard, 77, of Beaumont died October 12, 2005 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital. A native of Port Arthur, former longtime resident of Dallas and a resident of the Beaumont area since 2003, she worked for Sun Oil Company as an office administrator. Nelda is survived by her son, Randy Broussard of Dallas; daughter, Tanya Broussard Lowe of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; grandchildren, April Lowe, Allison Lowe, Adam Lowe, Alexander Jordan Thomas Lowe, Clint Broussard; great granddaughter, Olivia Kate Washburn. Marie Brule' Garibaldi, a devoted mother of nine children and active volunteer in civic and Catholic organizations in New Orleans, LA, for many years, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2005 at 9:40 p.m. at Woodbury Senior Living Center, after being relocated to Minnesota due to Hurricane Katrina. She was 90. Mrs. Garibaldi graduated from Corpus Christi Grammar School and McDonogh 35 High School in New Orleans. Mrs. Garibaldi was the first African-American recipient of the Archdiocese of New Orleans' Regina Matrum (""Mother of the Year'') Award in 1969, an honor presented to a Catholic mother for the exemplary living of her faith through her dedication to her family, her Church, and her community. She was a very active member of St. Joan of Arc Church in New Orleans, where she was the Grand Lady of the Knights of St. Peter Claver at St. Joan of Arc Church in New Orleans, as well as a member of the Sodality and Altar Society. She was also president of St. Joan of Arc School's Parent Teachers Association and was chair of the Church's Bazaar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustin Garibaldi, a son, Augustin B. Garibaldi, and two of her daughters, Alfreda Garibaldi Leonetti and Agnes C. Garibaldi, both of whom taught in the St. Paul (MN) Public Schools since 1966 and 1969, respectively. Survivors include her daughter, Debra G. Shropshire of New Orleans, five sons: Arnold, Amadee and Alvin of New Orleans; Antoine of Erie, PA; and Christopher Garibaldi of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers, Manuel and Steven Brule'; a sister, Theresa Porter Burrell of Los Angeles, CA; daughters-in-law, Donna, Lynne, Betty, Carol, Leslie and Debra; sons-in-law, Alphonse Shropshire and Robert Leonetti, sisters-in-law Mary, Lena and Lillian Brule', 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives. A lifelong resident of the city, she was born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Harmais and Eva (Brodeur) Galipeau.Prior to retiring in 1976 she had been employed as a seamstress for the Louis Mfg. Co., formerly of Pawtucket for 22 years. Felicia E. LaDuke, the daughter of Donna (Adamski) and Steve LaDuke was born on August 27, 1983 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She and her dad moved to Warroad, MN when she was three years old. She attended the Warroad grade school and High School, graduating in 2002. At 19 years old, Felicia joined the United Stated Army and completed her basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She graduated from basic training in December and on January 6 she was stationed at the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii where she resided for the past three years. She served a seven month tour over seas to Iraq in 2004. She disliked Iraq very much and was very happy to return to Hawaii where her son Elijah was awaiting her. Felicia was caring, loving, and a very kind person. She enjoyed her family, friends, and the community she lived in. One of her commanders stated that Felicia gave her time and money to every organization she could afford to give to, and sometimes more than she could afford. She was extremely generous. Felicia was a lifetime member of the WMSTR (Western MN Steam Threshers Reunion) at Rollog, MN, and she enjoyed their annual reunion very much. Felicia will be deeply missed by her family and friends. SPENCER— Rita M. (Vandale) Lennon, 87, formerly of 31 Church St., died Friday, Oct. 14 at Christopher House in Worcester. She was the wife of James F. Lennon, Sr., who died in 1998. She leaves two sons James F. Lennon, Jr. and his wife Madeline E. of Millbury and Robert T. Lennon of Auburn, two granddaughters Lenore and her husband Joseph White of Spencer and Gillian Lennon of Auburn, three great grandchildren Ashley, Chelsea and Logan White and two step grandsons Jonathan and Matthew Hart. Mrs. Lennon was a cafeteria worker at Maple Street School and St. Mary's School in Spencer where she worked for 23 years, before retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and its St. Anne's Sodality, the Spencer Golden Age Club and A.A.R.P. She graduated from David Prouty High School in 1936. Born in Spencer, she was the daughter of Frank and Clara (Blanchett) Vandale. The funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 17 from the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 60 Maple St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery. CHARLENE M. (BESSETTE) MATTHEWS ESSEX — Charlene Mary (Bessette) Matthews, age 59, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, Oct. 15, 2005, in Fletcher Allen Health Care. She was born in St. Albans, July 28, 1946, the daughter of the late Francis and Reba (Ellsworth) Bessette. She graduated from BFA Fairfax, Class of 1964, and was a graduate of Champlain College class of 1966. She married Earle A. Matthews in St. Luke's Church Fairfax, Nov. 28, 1970. Charlene was an affectionate and proud stay at home mother. She took the extra effort as a loving homemaker to give special attention to each one of her children. She loved to knit afghans and was sure to have completed a special afghan for all of her appreciative family members. She was an excellent cook in the kitchen and creative baker known for such goodies as her delicious rolls and cream cheese brownies. She always looked forward to the quiet times tending to her vegetable gardens and times spent during each spring sugaring season. But most of all she was a dedicated and loving wife and mother always unconditionally available for her family whenever needed. She will be tremendously missed by her family and many friends that had the true pleasure to know and love her. She is survived by her husband Earle Matthews of Essex; her six children, Nathan of Essex, Alan and friend Darcie of Essex, Jasan and Kristie of Burlington, Sara of Essex, Jonathan and Aimee of Essex, Melissa of Essex; four brothers, Edward and wife Carol of Fairfax, William and wife Mary of Sheldon, Frederick and wife Judi of Wisconsin, Thomas and wife Roberta of Massachusetts; two sisters, Brenda Thibault and husband Sylva of Fairfax, Lisa Minor and husband Marvin of Fairfax; many nieces, nephews, cousins; two aunts, Beatrice and Rita and one uncle Ralph. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the A.W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel. Jean Edna Barr (née Carmichael) October 31, 1925 - October 13, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully on October 13, 2005 at the Concordia Hospital Jean Edna Barr passed away at the age of 79. Jean was born to Alexander and Violet Carmichael on the family farm on October 31, 1925. Jean spent her early years in the Riding Mountain and Neepawa areas. Jean married Ernie Barr on March 1, 1947 and they celebrated their 50th wedding with family and friends in 1997. Jean & Ernie enjoyed their many travels to Austrailia, England, France, Spain & Portugal. Jean enjoyed a family reunion in the summer of 2004 at Little Red Rock Lake, Ontario. As a young woman Jean served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps in Winnipeg and Montreal. Mom was dedicated to her family. Despite her failing health she was always warm, caring, cheerful and shared her positive attitude with friends and family. Jean was predeceased by her husband Ernie, sister Marion, brothers Clifford and Lorne. Jean is survived by her sister Margaret Slaney; her daughter Cathy (Kerry) of Winnipeg; and her three sons Larry of Winnipeg, Brian of Toronto, Don (Debbie) of Regina; and six grandchildren Jared, Matthew, Kelly, Tabitha, Jennifer and Sara. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews. In addition to family Jean will be missed by many friends and neighbours at the Riverside Plaza. RACINE - Lawrence A. Prudhom, 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at his residence in Twin Lakes. He was born in Racine August 6, 1939, son of Albert and Ann (nee: DeFatte) Prudhom. Lawrence attended St. Catherine's High School. He was employed at J.I. Case Company for 22 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the J.I. Case 20-Year Club. His sense of humor and love of music will be missed by his family and friends. Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Ann Kramer; his mother, Ann; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Frederick (Odeen) Prudhom, Eugene (Marianne) Prudhom, Raymond (Sharon) Prudhom; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. MOREAU, LEONARD J., 84, of Hanover Avenue, died Friday, October 14, 2005, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was the husband of Catherine (O'Donnell) Moreau. Mr. & Mrs. Moreau were happily married for 56 years. Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Georgiana (Malliette) Moreau. Mr. Moreau served in the U.S. Army during WW II where he attained the rank of sergeant. He graduated from St. Raphael Academy, Pawtucket, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island and a Masters Degree in speech pathology from Boston University. He was a speech pathologist employed by the Pawtucket School Department for 36 years before retiring in 1984. Mr. Moreau also served as a part time speech pathologist for the North Smithfield School Department and was an agent for Shove Realty of Pawtucket, as well as the Nationwide Insurance Company. He was a member of the Pawtucket Teachers Alliance and a board member of the Alliance Credit Union. Following a distinguished career as a high school and collegiate athlete, Mr. Moreau coached various basketball and baseball teams in the community. He was a communicant of St. Leo The Great Church where he served as President of the Parish Council, Chairmen of the Catholic Charities Fund Appeal, and member of the Holy Name Society. Along with his wife he was a member of the parish's Christian Family Movement.Besides his wife, he is survived by, seven children, Ann Rankowitz, of Pawtucket, Jim Moreau, of East Providence, Len Moreau, of Tustin, California, Cathy Moreau, of Pawtucket, Mary Moreau, of Pawtucket, Beth Huber, of Warren, and Tom Moreau, of Newton, MA; a sister, Gertrude Trudel, of Pawtucket; and he was the proud and active grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was the brother of the late Raymond, Oscar, William, Edward and Henry Moreau.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Leo The Great Church, 697 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Margaret E. (Tegan) LeBrun -- Of Middleton. Oct. 13, age 72, formerly of Danvers. Wife of Eugene E. LeBrun, died Thursday at her home in Middleton following a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Mary E. (Flynn) Tegan. She was raised in Quincy and received her education in the Quincy and Weymouth school systems. A resident of the town of Middleton for the past four years, prior to that she had resided in Danvers for many years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she will be sorely missed by her devoted dog, Maggie. Mrs. LeBrun was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Middleton. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, embroidery, shopping with her friend Jan every Thursday and tea with her friend Peggy. She was an inspiration to all in her determination to live her life to the fullest in spite of her illness. In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived by two daughters, Maribeth and her husband, Robert Ouellette of Danvers and Susan Keeler of Stoneham, one son, Daniel and his wife, Dorinda Keeler of Littleton, NH, eight grandchildren, Katie O'Donnell, Danny, Nick, Travis and Abbie Keeler, Lauren, Robbie and Danny "Wally" Ouellette, four sisters, Claire Cipullo of Bonita Springs, FL, Anne Marilyn & her husband Robert Heron of Plymouth, Cathy and her husband Paul Fleming of Sharon and Jini and her husband Ernie Thibault of Merrimac, NH, two brothers, Henry and his wife Mary Tegan of Whitman and Bill and his wife Gerri Tegan of Surprise, AZ, her step-mother Lillian (Croft) Tegan of Nashua, NH, a step-daughter, Gail and her husband Danny Fifield of Poland, ME, a step-son, Robert and his wife Ann LeBrun of Beverly, several nieces and nephews. JOHNSON, Mary Evelyn (nee Sarazin) Evelyn passed away peacefully at the Hospice at May Court on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the age of 86. Predeceased by her husband Gray and her sister Margaret. BRUNELLE, DR. WILLIAM LOUIS, 83, passed away September 30, 2005, in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where he had traveled to from Homestead one week earlier. He was born on July 3, 1922, in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts and in 1942, during World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Chief Pharmacists Mate. During the war he was assigned to a Navy Landing Ship Tank (LST #294) and participated in the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded several medals including a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1945. In 1947 he again enlisted and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1955. After the war Dr. Brunelle attended Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri, where he met and married fellow student Genevieve Haller. After he graduated college in 1949 he opened his first Chiropractic Office in Coral Gables and was later invited to do a television show on Chiropractic each week on the only television station in Miami at the time, Channel 4, WTVJ. The show, called Health is Wealth, ran for over a year and was one of the first of its kind in the U.S. devoted entirely to the subject of Chiropractic. It aired live just before the local news at 5:55 pm, and as Dr. Brunelle would say years later, There was only one station then, so the people had to listen! During this time he formed an association with six other Chiropractors throughout South Florida known as the Brunelle Associate Chiropractic Offices. In 1953, he turned his practice over to a colleague and spent a year traveling the U.S. organizing seminars for Dr. James Parker who taught new professional techniques to the then expanding alternative health field of Chiropractic. Dr Brunelle also served as an Examiner for the Florida Board of Chiropractic Examiners and was on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Logan College of Chiropractic. He traveled extensively and lectured to other doctors on a multitude of Chiropractic topics. As his practice grew, he moved to larger offices on Flagler Street and later relocated to the southwest area of Miami. In 1993 Dr. Brunelle began his semi-retirement but stayed very active in community service such as recording literature for the blind and volunteering his time distributing equipment for the hearing-impaired. He was a member of the American, Florida, and Dade County Chiropractic Associations. Dr. Brunelle is survived by his former wife, Dr. Genevieve M. Haller of Virginia Beach, VA; sisters, V. Jeannette Supczak of South Hadley, MA, Yvonne Barsalou of Springfield, MA, Laurette Rollins of Westfield, MA; and eight nieces and nephews and their children. Ms Marie-Ange Claire Jalbert December 24, 1907 - October 13, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Desjardins Funeral Chapel On October 13, 2005, Marie-Ange Jalbert, aged 97, passed peacefully into the arms of the angels at the Tache Centre. Daughter of the late Octave Jalbert and Amanda DeChamplain, Marie-Ange was born on December 24, 1907 in Fort Frances, ON the eighth in a family of 11. Her early education was in Fort Frances, followed by high school in St. Boniface, graduating from l'Academie St. Joseph in 1928. She spent a year in a Carmelite community. Marie-Ange was the caregiver of her aging parents for many years. After the death of her father, she and her sister Therese left for Ottawa, to be employed in clerical work. The majority of her working years were then devoted to assisting her brother priests in their Oblate parishes, retiring to St. Boniface in 1979. Marie-Ange was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, Louise (Mere Marie-Octavienne, a Franciscan Sister), Adelaide (Sr. Louise a Sister of Our Lady of the Missions), Fr Leon OMI, Leona Poirier, Fr Marcel, Therese, Wilfred and George. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Fr Julien Jalbert, OMI of Winnipeg; her sister Anita Roy of Thunder Bay, ON; her niece and goddaughter Denise Terpstra (John Cope) of Winnipeg; nieces Lucille Roy (Joe Hewitson) of Montreal, and Louise Plante (Raymond) of Bobcaygeon, ON. Viewing will take place on Tuesday, October 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Boniface Cathedral, 190 avenue de la Cathedrale, followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., with Fr Bonin presiding, joined by priests of the Oblate community.
