Marion Gertrude Clattenburg (née Knapman)- - August 04, 1914 - June 28, 2004 - 89 yrs, Halifax, passed away June 28, 2004, in Northwood Centre. Born in Halifax, she was the only child of the late William and Mariah (Waterfield) Knapman. Marion worked for Maritime Tel & Tel until her retirement and was an MTT Pioneer. She did volunteer work for The Red Cross and Northwood Manor. Marion was an animal lover and in her early years would seldom be seen without her constant companion, her dog, Noel. She will be missed by her longtime friends, Irene Johnston and family, Ron Burns and family; caregivers, Debbie and Bruce Fader. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Clattenburg. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, in St. John's Cemetery. Georges Duguay - on Sunday, June 27, 2004, with family by his side, George ended his courageous battle with cancer at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 67 years. Husband, father, “Papa” and brother, he is survived by his wife and best friend Dale, children Denise (Shaun Best), Richard (Erin), Michael, and their mother Betty Tomkins, his stepchildren Jeff (Michelle) Foreman and Kerri (Don) Kreitz, grandchildren Mason, Marcus, Matthew and Sydney, his brothers Sam (Inez), Ray (Jeannine), Gerry (Diane) and Leo (Charlette), his sister Huguette (Henri) Gauthier, in-laws Jan (Casey) Kehoe, Darlene (Ken) Friesen and his many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his father Aurele and his mother Marie Anne, brothers Martial, infant Hubert and mother-in-law Leona Foreman. Retired from a lifelong career in transportation, George is remembered for his story-telling, his sense of humor and his athletic ability, playing baseball until just a few years ago. George was an avid supporter of the University of Winnipeg basketball program, attended many Goldeyes games and mourned the loss of the Jets. George enjoyed woodworking in his spare time and into his retirement, spending hours working on projects such as crib boards and alphabet trains for his family and friends. George is also remembered for being a strong family man, looking forward to family and the yearly family golf tournament in Ottawa. His presence was always known and he will be dearly missed by everyone. But he was never happier than playing the role of “Papa” to his four precious grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Doctors Wollner, Vacjner, Krahn, Ahmed and Crow, Fathers Fred Olds and Roland Lanoie, RHC Chaplain Ina, Sam and Inez, Irene Lemoine and Irene Shapiro. Le 9 octobre 2004 à 4 h 45 Paul entrepris son long voyage, après une longue lutte contre le cancer. Arrangements sous la direction funéraire Cass. Ces frères et sœurs : Maurice (de feu Carmelle), Patricia, André (Francoise), Lise (Maurice), Rosaire, Lina (Henri), Jean (de feu Rose Hélène). Son beau frère : Larry (Donna), plus oncles et tantes, nièces, neveux et une montagne d’amis. Le 16 octobre 2004 à 14 h à l’église Notre Dame de la Merci, en présence des cendres, la famille sera présente une heure avant pour recevoir les condoléances suivi par l’inhumation au cimetière Crystal Lake. En guise de sympathie, une contribution volontaire à la Société Canadienne du Cancer serait apprécié. WILSON, Ruth Sylvia (nee Gehl) 1919 - 2004 "Into the Lord's comforting arms" It is with great sadness that the children of Ruth announce her sudden passing on October 12, 2004 at H.D. Grace Hospital at the age of 85. Ruth is reunited with her loving husband David (1991), her cherished sons David (1991), Douglas (2003) and first grandchild Randy Willoughby (2002). She will be sadly missed by her children, Sharon Gustafson, Brian, June and Paul Wilson. Dear grandmother of Jill, Jeff, Susan, Pam, Cheryl, Sandy, Lynn, Jody, Douglas and of 11 great grandchildren. McARTHUR, John Alistair Passed away peacefully on September 28, 2004, surrounded by his loving family, in his 91st year. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 62 years Keryma McArthur (nee Rojas). John was a proud 3T5 graduate from the University of Toronto ( Metallurgical Engineering) and worked for 30 years for the Anaconda Copper Company in Chuquicamata, Chile. ERNEST FREDERICK BUCHAN Ernest Frederick Buchan, 69, of 35 Hutchinson Court, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, passed away suddenly in Quebec on Oct. 13, 2004. Born Aug. 3, 1935 in Kapuskasing, Ont., Ernie was brought up in Guelph, Ont. He worked briefly for Leyland Electric before going to Hamilton Teachers’ College. He taught in one-room country schools at Puslinch No. 9 and Eramosa No. 6 while training. Graduating from Hamilton in 1960, he moved to Fort Frances, Ont. to teach at Robert Moore School. He gained his specialist certificate in Special Education in 1966 and his BA degree from Lakehead University in 1971. In January, 1964, he married the former Dilys Williams of Wales. During his teaching career, Ernie worked in several capacities, as a classroom teacher in Robert Moore and Sixth Street schools, as principal of Sixth Street, and vice-principal of Robert Moore, and as an audio-visual consultant throughout Rainy River District. Ernie had a life-long interest in all forms of communication. He was regional councillor for TVOntario for six years, served on the airport commission for many years, and was instrumental in setting up local television programming. In 1987, he fulfilled a lifetime ambition by earning his amateur radio operator’s licence (VE3XEM/VY2ERN). In 1997, he and his wife left Fort Frances after more than 30 years to enjoy retirement on Prince Edward Island. Ernie is survived by his wife, Dilys; and daughter, Joanne of Waterloo, Ont. Several cousins also survive in the Guelph and Parry Sound, Ont. areas; as well as a niece and two nephews. He was predeceased by his son, David in Thunder Bay (1997); brother, Don in British Columbia (1994); mother, Ada in Guelph (1979); and father, Kenneth in Guelph (1957). There will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place in Charlottetown, with Belvedere Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice.

James Craig - passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the age of 72 years. Jimmy is predeceased by his infant son and the love of his life, his wife of 37 years Marie; his parents James and Mary; sister Pearl Zazelenchuk; brothers Morris and Garry. Left to cherish his memory and courage are his two daughters Linda (Gil) Freund and Cindy Craig; six grandchildren; Nicky (Glen), Nancy (Chad), Juliana, Staci (Lukas), Matthew, Karissa; one great-grandson Noah; brother and sisters, Allan (Colleen), Liz (Jim) McFerran, and Eileen Konecsni; and sister-in-law, Jean. Gordon "Al" O.E. Fulford - April 01, 1925 - June 11, 2004 - Al passed away peacefully at home, after a wonderful day with family and friends. A loving husband, father, son and brother, he will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Madolyn, his five children; Jan, Barry (Elzunia), Sherry (Merv), Wendy, Wayne (Wendy), eleven grandchildren: Michael, Chris, Cheryl, Julia, Jacqui, Nikki, Kristi, Karli, Keith, Nathan and Kaitlyn, two great grandchildren: Dylan and Amber, sister Lorna (Les), extended family and many friends. Al joined the Air Cadets at a very young age and joined the army during WWII, where he met the love of his life, Madolyn. He moved on to the RCAF where he served for 25 years, working his way through the ranks to retire as a Captain. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and Rotary Club. After retirement, he continued to participate actively and donated his time generously. Al believed in giving back to his community. Al had a great sense of humour and will be remembered by those who knew him for his practical jokes and fun-loving outlook. Above all else he loved his family and large family gatherings. Al enjoyed building model airplanes, playing cards, bowling, curling and horseshoes. He was an avid fisherman throughout his life. In later years, he enjoyed several fantastic trips with his sons and friends. He has touched the hearts of many. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness and support. Mrs. Betty Robertson Donohue (née Aiken) - April 05, 1920 - June 12, 2004 - passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital on June 3, 2004 after a short illness. Predeceased by her husband, Larry, in 1987 she leaves to cherish her memory: son, Alan (Linda); daughter, Sheila (Don); grandchildren; Christina (Ian), Ken (Carrie), Mike, Laurie (Brian), and great-grandson Jeremy. Born April 5, 1920 in Ottawa, Betty has spent most of her life in the Cowichan Valley. She was one of the early members of the Cowichan Writers Group and enjoyed 48 years with them. Betty also enjoyed gardening and above all her family. She attended St. John’s Anglican Church and volunteered with the Cowichan Senior’s Advisory Society. Service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, 486 Jubilee St. on Friday, June 11 at 1:00 pm. Tea to follow at the Church Hall. Flowers gratefully declined. Mrs. Catherine A. Fillmore (née MacLean) - age 96 of Amherst passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Centennial Villa, Amherst. Born in Dayton, North Dakota, she was a daughter of the late George William and Annabelle (Smart) MacLean, who resided in Durham, Pictou County, N.S., She was a graduate nurse from Providence, Rhoda Island. Catherine was a very charming lady. She was a member of Trinity St. Stephen's Church and a life Membership of the Amherst Chapter of the I.O.D.E. Chatherin is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by one daugther Cairine (Arthur) White of Amherst; one son William of Amherst; five grandchildren William (Fiona) of Oakville, Ont., Joan of Oshawa, Ont., Alicia Mary of Japan and Sarah of Halifax, N.S.; three great grandchildren Ashley, Nathan and Oscar; sister-in-law Marion Maclean of St. Stephens N.B., and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William; brother James; sister Helen (Proudfoot) and niece Annabelle. Her remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visiting on Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Diedrich "Dick" Driedger - May 11, 1933 - June 03, 2004 - born at Reinland, Saskatchewan, on May 11, 1933, passed away in Victoria on June 3, 2004. He is predeceased by his father and mother; sisters, Tena, Elma and brother Neil. Survived by the mother of his children Dorothy; and their children, Deborah (Domenick), Daniel (Rose), Dorothy (Duncan), Donald (Sandra), Donna Marie (Darren); grandchildren, Sloane, Morgan, Mattie, Erika, Diedrich, Josiah, Clara and great grandchild, Shane; brothers and sisters, Peter, Mary, Helen, Annie, Carl, Eva, Frieda, Johnny, Edna. Dick grew up in Saskatoon and started his working career early as an electrician and went on to achieve his Maters Certificate from Camosun College, and helped many area electricians with his company Camosun Electric. He enjoyed many boat rides and the occasional catch in Victoria, Cowichan and Barkley Sound. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Victoria General Hospital fourth floor and Dr. Neil Boyle for such kind and loving support and a bouquet to Uncle Johnny for all his support through the past year. Percy Henry Conway - August 26, 1920 - June 06, 2004 - 83 yrs, Mount Uniacke, passed away June 6, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Percy and Ellen Maude (Pettipas) Conway. Percy enjoyed playing cards, listening to old-time music, driving and dancing the two step, but above all else he loved to spend time with his family and many, many friends. He loved to talk about the old days to us all. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Marion Margaret Conway (Murphy); son, Eddy Allen; daughter, Marion Carol Eisenor; grandson, Matthew Orman; brothers, Fred, Mickey; sisters, Ester Onyette, Nell Flemming, Marie Walsh. He will be lovingly missed by sons, Gerald (Kathy), Raymond (Tris); daughters, Madeline "Sissy" (Bill) Joyce, Laraine (Ed) Robichaud, Christina "Tina" (Ron) Lynch, Donna Conway (Danny Murphy), Darlene Conway, Michelle (Steve) Gilbert; 29 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; many nieces and nephews. Percy joined the Royal Canadian Artillery in January 1942, then transferred to the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was honorably discharged in September 1945. Percy was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bedford Branch. He drove a trolley coach in 1953-54. He found his home in the DND Base Transport Section for 41 years at Willow Park, where he retired at age 75. Mary-Ellen Finch (née Graham) - After a short battle with cancer, Mary-Ellen Finch, age 91, passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital at 8:45 p.m., on Saturday, June 19, 2004. She was predeceased by her parents Ada and Richard Graham and her brothers, Walter, James and Les. Mary-Ellen is survived by her loving husband Jack, of 52 years; her son John; grandson Wayne, granddaughter Alicia; great-grandson Shay; nieces, Joyce, Trish and Nancy; nephew Alan and great-nieces and nephews. Mary-Ellen worked in the secretarial pool at Great-West Life up until her marriage to Jack in 1952. Greta V. Edgett (née Elliott) - July 18, 1932 - June 22, 2004 - 71 yrs, wife of Francis of Chandler Crescent, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 22, 2004. Born in Shubenacadie, NS, on July 18th 1932, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Georgie (Phillips) Elliott. Greta retired from the CNR offices Moncton, following many years of service. She was active in the Elliott Clan Society, a member of St. John’s United Church and enjoyed many winters in Dunedin, Fla. Greta is survived by her husband of 52 years Francis, daughters; Debbie Boudreau (Greg) of Bathurst, Kathy Foster, (John) of Moncton, sisters Rena Bleakney (Carl) of Riverside-Albert, Myrna Stewart (Ian) of Riverside-Albert, grandchildren; Mathieu & Jaclyn Boudreau, Sarah & Adam Foster, as well as several nieces and nephews. Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday, June 24th from 7-9 PM and from 1:00 PM Friday until the time of the funeral service at 2 PM in the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home. JOHNSTON, JOHN HAMILTON (JACK), BFor, DFC Died on October 13, 2004 at Veteran's Facility, in Fredericton, NB, at the age of 80. Much loved husband of Ann and "Dad" to Sandra Pond (Mel), Keith (Leanne) and Blair (Kim). "Papa" to granddaughters Melissa, Melanie Pond, Nancy, Erin, Meg, and Rachel Johnston and grandson, John Andrew Johnston. Survived by sisters, Pauline (Mountain), Marjorie (Carroll), and Judy (Bird), and brother, Dow. Predeceased by parents Lloyd and Helen, and sisters Lois (Stevens) and Evelyn (Jansevskis). Jack was born and raised in Nashwaaksis and worked in the family's general store. In World War II, he joined the RCAF, becoming a Flight Lieutenant with 619 Squadron, Bomber Command. He was one of the few to complete 30 successful missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, Fredericton. Jack met Ann in Scotland during the war and persuaded her to return to Fredericton with him. They married in 1947. Following graduation from UNB Forestry Engineering in 1948, they moved to Bridgewater, NS, where their children were born. Jack worked for Hollingsworth and Whitney (later Scott Paper), until 1965, when he joined the Canadian Forestry Service and the family moved to Fredericton. He retired in 1987. Jack was an avid curler and skipped the team that went on to the Dominion Legion Championship in Trail, BC, in 1961. He loved being outdoors, whether fishing with his sons or tramping through the snow on snowshoes or skis. He loved nothing better though than an early tee time at Mactaquac on a summer morning with his friends or sons after a leisurely drive up the north side of the river. He was deeply loved by his family and especially so by Ann. She devoted herself to his care when Alzheimer's disease forced his move to the Veteran's Facility in 2001. There will be no visitation by request of the family. Memorial Service will take place at Gibson Memorial United Church on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 at 2 pm with Rev. Boyd Vincent officiating and Rev. Gil MacKenzie assisting. Immediately following the memorial service there will be a Legion Tribute Service, Branch # 4, Fredericton. A private family interment will be held at the Field of Honor, Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Veteran's Facility, "Wheels for Vets" through the Chalmers Hospital Foundation.
